  1. Can't help but think of "the Barry Gibb Talk Show" whenever "Lights on Broadway" comes on the radio. Favorite might be one with Joe Montana where he says everything he's thinking, with the punch line being "I'll just be upstairs masturbating." Montana's deadpan delivery just slays me.
  2. Kilawat in the Milwaukee Center is nice as well. You can park in that building (there is an garage under the Intercontinental Hotel). Easily walkable to the Riverside.
  3. I still think the Byzantines will be the favorite in 1013. That is sig worthy. It took over 15 years, but I finally have an answer to "why would you want a history minor?" - to insprire message board signatures.
  4. I have no idea how this translates to any chance of Grieinke coming back, but I think his Social Anxiety Disorder is a big deal. Last year, he and his wife rented a house directly behind mine. We shared an alley and all of the mailboxes for our complex were in one place. I ran into Zack once or twice all summer. Saw his wife a few more times. While I know most professional athlets keep to themselves, we've had others in our area that were much more visible. One of our other neighbors always greets new people when they move in. She went to the Greinke's house (not knowing who had moved in) and told them about an upcoming neighborhood event. His wife very poiltely said that her husband doesn't do things like that. Someone else knocked on their door soon after they moved in, again, just to welcome them (and again not knowing who it was). No answer, as Mrs. Greinke wasn't home. Shortly there after, the windows were covered with aluminum foil. That was when we learned who our new neighbor was. Again, I don't know what all this means for where Greinke will sign. But I do know that the Social Anxiety Disorder part of the puzzle is significant. I can see why he might be a beach person, and as others have mentioned, Anaheim isn't LA. My bet would be on him staying there. But if anyone would eschew conventional wisdom to stay somewhere where he was comfortable, it would be Greinke.

  6. It doesn't fit with your passive-aggressiveness, but you should do that with any quote, regardless of what you anticipate the reaction to be.
  7. Deciding on whether to block a specific poster's posts. If I do it, I save myself the annoyance or reading nonsense, however I'd also miss the ridiculousness that is contained within those posts.
  8. I doubt that's true. It's been true in the past. I've dug up the quote and story from when ARod signed in Texas. He specifically said he preferred Atlanta, but was strongly encouraged to take the Texas offer. There was a very good article about this, the union feels that "a rising tide lifts all boats." Not saying it couldn't happen, but when was the last time a player took a home-town discount? Everyone made a big deal about Cliff Lee turning down the Yankees, but once the details of the contract came out, it was determined that Philly's offer was higher anyway.
  9. It's not like anyone declared it "a lock." I agree it's a long shot, even if Greinke wanted to come back, the players' union strongly discourages players from signing anywhere but the highest offer, which I'm sure the Brewers wouldn't have.
  10. Absolutely! There will be a ton of kids/people who will rip this open and commence to painting, totally screwing it up for future collectors... Oh my god! The collectors! You know who this doesn't screw it up for? The kids.
  11. This is no laughing matter, but I'll admit my first thought was Cousin Eddie in Christmas Vacation. "The man was, was wearing a blue leisure suit, he was a huge, beastly, bulging man..."
  12. Lemme guess, this is a "lock."
  13. Easy there partner. Now the Rangers beat writer is tweeting that Texas hasn't yet agreed to deal Olt for Johnson. All of this stuff is fluid this week. Nothing is a "lock" until the press conference.
  14. I've read about the White Sox trying trade Floyd to get pieces to acquire Greinke. The part that scares me is that they have a good bullpen and somehow we're going to take their 7th inning guy as a big piece of this trade. I'll be severely disappointed if the word "bullpen" is used in conjunction with anyone we get in a Greinke trade.
  15. MLBTR now reporting the Rangers are willing to trade Olt for Josh Johnson, since Johnson is signed for 2013.
  16. I've always held out hope for Parra, but if there's a chance to trade him, now is the time. Otherwise you go into the offseason with him (I believe) arb-eligible and out of options. Come next spring, paying for Manny's potential gets costly. He's actually pitching fairly well recently - only one hit over his last 8 appearances.
  17. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that GAME05 is moving into a yurt. As far as I know, he's the only one of us that has hiked the Appalachian Trail.
  18. I feel like this kind of describes our owner as well (who is from LA), especially when it came to the Ramirez signing. "We lost Prince, we'll just go sign another slugger." This is part of the reason I don't think they'll trade him - he was their "big acquisition."
  19. For me it comes down to this: If the quality of players the Brewers receive in a trade for Greinke is only slightly better than the picks, I'd rather just enjoy watching Greinke pitch the year out. Unfortunately, that's a low standard under the new CBA. The Brewers would only get one supplemental pick, which is why I'm not too excited about the return in a potential trade (especially since whomever trades for Greinke will get no picks). Hopefully DM can convince multiple teams that Greinke sitting out he most important games is not a big deal, that he's also not hurt, and then get those teams bidding against each other. Oof. That sounds like a tall order.
  20. I went last year with my 2 & 4 year olds. Brought lunch, spent $20 on tickets and they rode for hours. There is also a giant playground in the park, on which we spent a good deal of time. Everyone had a blast, we'll be back later this summer.
  21. The Royals just signed Jason Kendall. Note: This is not from a "Tweets from 1999" feed. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/royals-sign-jason-kendall.html
  22. I loved that music at the time too, and as a 13-year old there was a lot of scenery at that show. Lots of young women with big hair and a, shall we say, zest for living.
  23. Selfishly, I like the new design, as I live downtown and work on the west side. In the AM, I get on at McKinley and feed onto 94West. With the new setup, I don't have to merge twice before 25th St.
  24. Embarrassing: 1st show I can remember (with Parents in roughly 1981) - Kenny Rodgers at the Greensboro Coliseum 1st show with friends (roughly 1989) - Warrant & Poison at MECCA
