  1. My old friend's DJ group is playing Lolla this year, very cool that someone I know gets to play such a big show. If anyone goes, make sure to check out Orchard Lounge.
  2. Really enjoyed that Francoeur story, thanks for the link!
  3. I am most pleasantly surprised by his speed. Hope he continues as he has been, I would say he has exceeded my expectations at this point. I thought his bat would play, just thought it would take him longer to adjust.
  4. If they had video of a crackhead peeing into Braun's cup, he would still be labeled a juicer. It's like being accused of rape, you may be found absolutely not guilty, but you are forever linked to rape. I don't want Braun to talk further. I don't need to know the details. I don't give a damn if he's exonerated by the media. He is playing every day, and fairly well. That is all that matters to me. He beat the system, to do this, he had to take a PR hit. This was calculated. At some point his lawyers looked at him and said, we can win this, but you're not going to look good doing it. The quickest way for this to go away is for it to be ignored. It's the first week of the season, so it's a story. It will fade as soon as a better story comes along. Given the state of the game, it shouldn't take too long. He's a player from Milwaukee, even when ESPN bad mouths him, they are only allotted 30 seconds
  5. Route 66 runs through my town too. If you happen to be going through Granite City, IL (just east of St Louis) in the morning, stop at the itty bitty restaurant...pretty tasty food.
  6. I'm hoping the Blues continue their regular season dominance of the Sharks in the playoffs. They owned them this year. Didn't like the slide at the end of the season, but they have everyone healthy now, and I'm not sure Hitch knows who to play. Hoping D'Agostini is relegated to the bench, if the Blues make it through the first round, they are going to be dangerous.
  7. I would like to predict that next years' version of the swine flu will have it's origins traced back to the Golden Corral Chocolate Fountain. The ultimate cesspool of snotty hands and the unwashed masses. Eating out of that thing is like drinking the bathwater of strangers.
  8. I see Sullinger as Traylor part deux. I like the Zeller brothers, I think Tyler will actually put up numbers comparable to Hansbrough. Probably never an All-Star, but a valuable rotation member. Not sure what to think about Perry Jones, I'm leary of physical talent guys who just can't figure it out. I'd love to steal Kendall Marshall, I think he develops into a great pass first PG. When Aaron Craft comes out (not sure when that is), the Bucks would be smart to snatch him, assuming they are sticking with Skiles. He was born to run a Scott Skiles team.
  9. I think he's somewhat unappreciated, but not a HOFer. He's kind of Texas' version of Geoff Jenkins. He was their anchor for a long time. Obviously, he has better stats than GJ, but that's who I lump him in with in my mind.
  10. Brown is a decent role player, he just never lived up to the #1 billing. Udoh can rival Sanders for role of most offensively inept defensive specialist. Hollinger made a good point about Skiles having success running a fast tempo game with Ben Gordon. Not sure if he can repeat that success with Ellis.
  11. While the power conferences are down, there aren't exactly dominant mid-majors either. Creighton is pretty inconsistent. I don't think Syracuse loses too early, as they are incredibly tough with Fab Melo playing. I put little to no stock in conference tourneys. Most teams just don't care about them if they are already locked up. My early upsets are Belmont, South Dakota St, and Long Beach St. I'm not much of an expert, but I'll be in Vegas all weekend. Hope I at least know enough to make some money (or break even). My Final Four is Kentucky, MSU, OSU, and Kansas. Kentucky beating Kansas for the title. The team that scares me is Duke. It seems every year I don't think they have a chance, they blow through the tourney. They aren't very strong, but if they get hot, they could win it all.
  12. Wasn't trying to be argumentative, just getting my thoughts out. Sorry if it seemed that way!
  13. I think it could be absolutely as simple as that. While the collector didn't do anything "wrong" necessarily, the guidelines put out by MLB were not followed exactly. That should void the deal. At that point the process began losing it's credibility. You no longer need facts or proof, you can now begin to speculate about all the things that could have happened to the sample. It shouldn't have been in that guy's possession that long, period. It's safer at a FEDEX facility, even if it sits. There it is nothing but an anonymous box. At the collector's house it is still Ryan Braun's sample. From a legal perspective (I'm very much not a lawyer), that would seem to be enough to me. They've probably handled hundreds of samples the same way, but no one thought to challenge that flaw. I forget exactly what they're called, but I think it's along the lines of a zero-day attack in coding. You can only exploit it once, so when you do, make sure it counts, as you'll never be able to do it again.
  14. It needs to be over. There is no vindication in this. I wholeheartedly don't care if the fans don't find out every initmate detail, because quite frankly, it's none of our business. The longer this drags, the greater the effect it can have on Braun and his season. People, as a whole, have the attention span and memory of gnats. He's not even being talked about anymore. That's the way it should be. He's going to get booed everywhere, so be it. He's one of the best players in baseball, he's most likely going to be booed anyways. Braun persuing further action would be stupid, in my opinion. Unless he's got third party video of this guy pouring a bottle clearly labeled testosterone into a bottle, and forging his signature; very little good can come from it. Braun won this, it may not have been a flawless victory, and his reputation may take a hit, but that's the nature of the beast in the twitter era. Nothing needs to be confirmed as fact, and people believe what they want. He's a juicer in the eyes of the masses, nothing will change this. It's like being accused of rape. Even if you are found inncocent, you're still the rapist.
  15. I don't think physical's are necessary. Raef La Frentz seemed to be traded about 6 times without ever playing a game. As far as Drummond, ready Defense with no Offense often = Thabeet. He is raw, logic says stay in school and learn to play the game without the pressure. Reality says he takes the payout, and hopes to learn to play over the course of his rookie contract. It's a sheer a sheep/kill a sheep thing for me.
  16. I'm not really sure why that would be shocking. To the public's knowledge, no one has ever overturned a positive test. To my knowledge, everyone trying to win their case tried to clear their name by arguing that they must have taken a "tainted supplement", etc. Braun would seem to be the first to attack, for lack of a better word, a "loophole" in the system. This was his only chance of winning the case. MLB holds the player responsible for everything that goes into their body, either intentional or unintentional. The only way to "beat" the system is to go after it, rather than it's result. It was the smart way to do it. He's going to lose a lot of fans due to this, and his reputation takes a permanent hit either way. If the collector came out and admitted he tainted the sample, there would still be a large segment of the population that would believe Braun bribed him, or some such nonsense. I don't care if Braun took steroids. It would seem to be pretty obvious that he is not "juicing" in the traditional sense. If he did, I would wager it was to heal from his lingering injuries at the end of the season. If that's the case, so be it, I can live with that. Ultimately, what's important to me is that Braun is on the field for the season.
  17. I plan on wearing my Brewers gear in STL this year. I'm not worried about it in the slightest. I've been going to Busch for games every year since '02, and have never had a problem. If they comment on steroids, make sure to compliment them on the Mark McGwire Expressway (Highway?, I never pay attention to the sign) you came in on. They may hate the Brewers, but I wouldn't worry about a confrontation.
  18. I agree with Yoshii, Davis is the front runner for 1. I think Drummond slips to 3-4. Would love to see Davis in Milwaukee, if Skiles is still here, he would seem to be his dream player.
  19. I think this should be a call for MLB to change its process. With the billions that the sport generates, they can't put a little office/lab in the clubhouses of the teams? Keep a rotating medical staff? Little cost for peace of mind. I've worked for the DOD for 14 years now, and the drug testing here is pretty much fail proof. I hate to say it, but if the government can figure out how to do something right, anyone can.
  20. I don't even believe it's technically about "integrity". People want a story NOW. Not when facts are hashed out, not when everything can be ultimately verified. These guys are for the most part bloggers. They aren't reporters anymore. They are paid for their immediate opinions and reactions. Someone will eventually write a detailed story about what happened, but that will take too long. This will have passed in interest. He is a baseball player from Milwaukee, ESPN will forget he exists as soon as Lin has another big game.
  21. He's really not a bad guy. I've lived in STL since his debut, and while he is annoyingly talented, and prone to watching home runs...I don't have much else bad to say about him. Low profile, charitable, and from all accounts a genuinely nice person.
  22. Sounds like you have some fantastic travel plans! I will also recommend a trip to Door County, it is probably the most beautiful area of Wisconsin. Where else are you visiting within the US?
  23. I think #2 on pebadgers list is pretty much where I'm sitting. Regardless of the outcome of the decision, there is going to be intense blowback. Saying wait 30 more days for the "why" is probably not beneficial to either party. I'm not concerned about the time that it is taking, their obligation isn't to set anyone at ease. Their obligation is to come to a reasoned conclusion.
  24. Golden State is and always has been a quagmire. As far as him getting cut from Houston, they had Lowry and Dragic already. He didn't have much of a chance there. As has been said, Lin is a big story because he is helping the Knicks. No one would care if he was turning around the Bobcats or Bucks. He's a good kid, I hope he holds on and establishes himself longterm.
  25. I miss Rocky's pizza so much. That heart shaped pizza just about made me cry! We are working the concession stand for the high school bball game tonight. We have to earn 2 "concession points", so the kiddo can go on the band trip in April. This was the only day left when we dragged our feet in signing up. Romance in the air, selling candy and popcorn to the 7 people that will show up to watch tonight.
