  1. Is it time to get the Zach Brown band back together? Seems like he's stringing together some pretty dominants outings, one after another. I remember in...what, 2018-2019, it appeared like he may be the next to follow Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta to the big leagues(not that anyone confused their stuff with his). Then a disastrous 2019, a 2020 lost to Covid, an uneven 2021...and now 2022 and it looks like he's looking pretty good. I also came across this little scouting report with regard to Harris. I wonder if HE may find his way to Milwaukee? It was from a Jays site last year, but 1.96 ERA. The 5.66 BB/9 is...well, not good, but he doesn't give up many hits. Maybe middle reliever, multi-inning type guy?
  2. I don't think you're overly optimistic on the prospects...other than Warren. I just think he'll take at least another year, but the bigger issue, I just don't think you'll see Mitchell/Weimer on the bench. Leave them in the minors in Rondon and Contreras...that's pretty bold! I've seen Contreras wants 5/100...and that'd be a pretty reasonable contract to be honest. Problem is, you look at the best teams and so many of them need catching help BADLY. But I'd be all for that. I suspect Contreras will end up getting closer to 25M a year, so 5/125 Rondon, eh...it's bold! I'll give ya that. I think, baring a late season shoulder fatigue, he's on pace for a maybe 5/140 type deal. I'd really rather just give that to Woodruff(or Burnes, but I don't think he takes that). Rodon is absolutely filthy...and I like how his fastball velo actually ticks UP during the games. It'd be interesting. The problem I have is you're taking Lauer out of that rotation...and Houser. And those are pretty good pitchers. My FA predictions are nothing special. I just said in another thread, maybe a Wily Peralta reunion now that he's seemed to figure it out a bit. A "big" signing would be a Jose Abreu. The CHW have Andrew Vaughn in house as a replacement, Jimenez is not a very good OFer, so you could just simply move Vaughn to 1st, Elroy to DH and move on. Meanwhile, we tried to sign Abreu when he came to the States. Josh Bell I think will get a 4/65 type deal, maybe 5/90. Somewhere in that range. Abreu on the other hand is 36 and maybe 2/30 gets it done? If he wants to stay close to Chicago, it'd make sense. That's about as wild as I'd go in free agency though. I think Abreu still has a couple productive years left. We'll likely let Wong leave, Cain's off the books, as is McCutchen, but that'll mostly go to arbitration raises. I can see the payroll getting pushed as high as 150...maybe. But not on long term deals. Rowdy/Abreu/Hiura handling 1B/DH most days, Turang at 2B, Frelick in CF and then Yelich/Renfroe in the corner OF spots with Taylor as the 4th OFer and Mitchell/Weimere/Ruiz waiting to prove themselves would be a nice upgrade. Jurickson Profar, Mitch Haniger, Drury, these are the types of guys I could also see them targeting, but on short deals. And outside of Haniger, I suspect the other two will price themselves out of Milwaukee. I think the most likely scenario would see the Brewers take a package of Ruiz/Small+ for a younger impact player. A corner IFer(3B preferably) or just a good bat. I'm more curious to see if David Stearns is the POBO after this season. How I'd LOVE to see a press release that says the Brewers have signed DS to an extension through 2026! I'm still pretty confident in what Matt Arnold provides as he'd almost certainly be elevated to that role, but I don't love the idea of the people Stearns would take with him. There'd be a significant brain drain and THAT is troubling. But again, the infrastructure he's left in place will make me appreciate of his time in Milwaukee in either event.
  3. I love the whole post, all the information I can get on them. Unless or until they reach Appleton and I can drive up and catch some games, I am relying on stats and sporadic scouting reports. BUT, as it pertains to Wily Peralta, that's a guy that I've wondered...what the hell would he have turned into if he'd have gone through the "pitching school" we currently have? A guy who could run it up there in the upper 90s with movement, a sinker that racked up the GBs and a nice slider? Seems like the type of guy the current regime is turning into a quality big league pitcher(in fact, I'd be more than happy to bring him back in free agency next year. I think he could be an ideal multi-inning reliever. That's neither here nor there though. If they can harness Uribe's arm...well, I'll be impressed. A guy like Henderson can get you out. A guy like Uribe can helps win you playoff series. Power arms and just dominating hitters, that's so important in Oct/November.
  4. I could rationalize the whole deadline if Lamet isn't DFA'd after giving up Peters for Rosenthal. Maybe not agree with everything...but I could understand all the moves. That one...seems like you just gave up on a pitcher who could have been a huge contributor instead of Jake McGee or Suter or whoever.
  5. Mostly agree with how the lineup is going to look like. I think we're going to see another player added via trade/free agency(maybe someone like Mitch Haniger for a year at ~8-10M coming off an injury plagued season)...but I do think you're jumping the gun in a few places here with regard to prospects. 1B-I don't think Warren is really all that close. He's been hitting the ball well recently, but he's in HiA and slashing .222/.299/.384 Really like the upside, but I don't see him in the plans for 2023. 2B I could see Hiura getting more time there than this year and Wong's option declined. Jace maybe starting the season there(or at 3rd with Urias at 2nd) and then a couple months in Turang taking over. C-I don't know if Omar comes back. Maybe if he's back cheap, but catching is in pretty high demand right now. I think we're going to go with Caratini and Severino as their catchers next year. Good defense, a switch hitter and a lefty, both cheap and cost controlled. But hey, maybe we do get Omar back for a year at 5M. We could jump at that. OF-I think Frelick's the CFer as soon as he's called up and Taylor moves over to LF. And beyond that I think Mitchell and Weimer will be in AAA next year until they force the issue or we have injuries. They need and....will likely get 25 PAs a week. Same with Ruiz. And in that scenario you'd imagine Weimer would be RF, Mitchell and Ruiz rotating between CF(maybe Ruiz plays some 2nd). The one NEAR certainty I can predict...Brewers fans will be mad when we don't sign Trea Turner or Aaron Judge. They MAY be understanding when we pass on giving deGrom a 4/160M dollar deal, but that's 50/50.
  6. Urible may slide in there anywhere? 103 and a potential plus slider COULD=Closer. I know he walks more than the Proclaimers, but...seems like the type of guy who could move pretty quick once he gets back IF he can get the walks down to just terrible instead ridiculously terrible. I also wish I could get what type of velo each guy has. It's hard to find with a lot of these guys or get an idea what their upside looks like. BUT this looks like a really good list and I'm particularly excited about the top 2.
  7. Me. I care what his BA is or I wouldn't have mentioned it. For all this, "it doesn't matter HOW you make an out," kinda does. I'll take the .300/.400 hitter over the .200/.400 hitter every day. I don't rank hitters by BA. I don't think it's the most important stat. But pretty hard to find a good hitter who is hitting .159(At the time of the trade). Gallo's also NOT a CFer. He's played like 6 innings in CF the last 3 years...while the Yanks were throwing Aaron Judge out there in CF. So it's not like they had Willie Mays patrolling the OF and just moved him over. He's played ~50 game out there for his career. I wasn't a huge fan of the deadline, but wow...if we'd have traded Tyler Black for Joey Gallo to come in and play CF....then I may be buying into the theory that Stearns is 'James Hardening' his way out of Milwaukee. Maybe if the Yanks just wanted to kinda give him away, fine. But they didn't. They got back a really good prospect in return.
  8. They're literally both 50's. That's the same level. Turang and Black. And he's not athletic enough to stick in the OF? How? Based on what? He MAY not be able to play 3rd base because of a shoulder injury, but he's plenty athletic enough to stick at 2nd. Again, this is the Gallo from the Yankees, right? Previously the Rangers? The guy hitting .187? I'll argue for Hiura to get at bats now because he's on our team, came up in our system and it costs us nothing to do so, but I'm not seeking out guys hitting ~.180 and trading away one of the the best pure hitters we've had in the system in the past couple years for a few months of him.
  9. How many times does he have to change scenery? He's hit under 200 the last 3 years and he changed scenery's right in the middle of that. I really would have thought after the last couple years, the last thing people would have wanted would be a .187 OFer. I feel pretty confident in saying we could get something close to that from Joey Weimer right now.
  10. Well...the Brewers announcers have been talking about it for some time. I'm guessing it's been communicated to him.
  11. I went into this deadline hoping to turn a couple of decent prospects into Bell or maybe Bentidendi...and maybe a reliever. Maybe even a Small or Valerio for the right stick(definitely NOT a rental). I anticipated it being someone we hadn't even considered(like Adames). I came out confused how it worked out and just really annoyed that we let a potential high leverage dominant arm like Lamet go with nothing. The bad, aforementioned Lamet and trading Antoine Kelly. I just didn't like it. The good, 3 relievers who can and have closed who can get outs in October(and hopefully November when you need power arms) and what would appear to be a VERY good left handed pitcher in Gasser. The Great, Brice Turang, Sal Frelick, Joey Weimer, and obviously Chourio are all still part of the system...we look like we may be deeper in the pen(though not as dominant) and I think we actually improved our chances to win in the future without having much of a negative impact on the immediate future. Give me Rosenthal coming in throwing 100MPH, Lamet as a long man and then Bush and Rogers matching up and this deadline would be a very solid B+ to me. That said, it seemed disjointed and either not well planned out or they weren't able to complete some of the trades they had worked out that, as Attanasio said, "fell through." One last point, for those who are claiming Stearns has a foot out the door, is there any better reason for him to empty out 4 of our top prospects to acquire a difference making bat if that's the case? If he's in such a hurry to partner with Cohen, winning the NL is the best way to make that happen Based on what seemed to be available, I'm definitely happy the Brewers didn't overpay for a bat. I think at some point that may be a good idea, but teams also have to make that bat available via trade.
  12. Any updates on Ecerg's stuff? I know he's throwing in the upper 90s with the fastball and...the box score looked clean. How's the slider coming along(I thought it was a slider, not a curve...the breaking ball in any event)?
  13. C'mon...obviously he didn't mean Gasser, Turang, Mitchell AND Black to rent Joey Gallo for a few months. Still, Dodgers gave up a pitcher with...at least two plus pitches, including a upper 90s FB with movement and a very long injury history. For a guy hitting .160/.280. That right there makes me skeptical of Beeter. The Dodgers have some inherent advantages when it comes to building their farm system. Easier to sign high profile international FAs for example(same as the Yanks)...but they ALSO do a helluva job deciding which of those highly touted prospects to trade, which to keep. They managed to keep Cartaya and trade Ruiz. They seem to generally keep the right guys in these trades. If the Rays had a limitless budget. Which I guess makes sense with Friedman. I suppose we'll be saying something similar in 4-5 years with Stearns and the Mets.
  14. Should be interesting to see how the season plays out with all the potential BP arms we've got. Does Topa/Cousins come back and provide anything, how's Bush pitch, Devin Williams(with his FB velo dropping, I get more and more concerned hitters are just gonna sit on that fastball and ignore the change). And then there's Rosenthal. 15 innings from him, maybe they bring him back as well. We should have a deep pen next year and Hader spoiled us, but we've also got this Lamet kid, I hear he's got an even better slider!
  15. Is it just me, or does this system seem antithetical to the Brewers system in the days of Mark Rogers, Zach Braddock, Kentrail Davis, Logan Schaffer, etc...the days when we had either guys with flashy tools and were pinning far too much hope on those guys hitting(Corey Ray) or somehow harnessing their talent? Certainly there's always going to be an aspect of that(Joey Weimer is an example...HUGE tools...though he's also been pretty productive as well). Zach Vennaro is another guy who comes to mind, but it seems like we've had an outstanding year where our top prospects, our lower ranked prospects, "non-prospects," it seems like we're getting a lot of guys matching tools with production. Or am I mis-remembering and is there a little recency bias going on here?
  16. THIS has been abundantly obvious since day 1. I made a comment about him letting it rip and firing it in there...which of course someone came back with comments about how it takes more to be an NFL QB. And yes, obviously. But these are all small changes that are encouraging. He was trying to use too much finesse last year instead of just using his arm talent. But the biggest change has been the way he carries himself. And again, I'll go back to that throw to Danny Davis. We saw that EXACT same play so many times vs SF. Cover 0, CBs just trying to stay with the CBs until that pass rush gets home. And you knew immediately he was going to Davis(who I thought was Toure at the start of the play). He even looked him off, then came back. Throw SHOULD have been more to the outside, but your WRer has such a huge advantage there. He's looking back, the CB can't. That play right there was the biggest sign of growth I've seen. I'd also just add...the 49ers played guys like Javon Kinlaw quite a bit. They've got a nice D, but they were playing some starters. I think I have an idea what his potential is. How close to that he lands is what is still just TOTALLY up in the air. Probably the single most shocking part of this camp was that Aaron Rodgers wanted Tom Clements back to help Jordan Love. I had an friend who follows throw that out there and I kinda scoffed. No chance. Rodgers ego? I can't see it. Turns out...it was true. As for Rodgers scouting report- Lacks the arm strength to make all the throws(no, seriously, this is what scouts said), poor mechanics, locks in on one WRer, doesn't go through his progressions. If 1st read is not there, will start to scramble. System QB. Tedford guy. Injury concerns. Not athletic enough. I've combined them for the sake of time and I'll not be going back and finding all the scouting reports, but I did this about 2 months ago on another Packers forum when Love was getting crushed and the claim was made the Packers fans were screaming for *RODGERS to take over after year 2 and they want Love cut after year 2.
  17. I'm sorry...and based on THAT is what you're forming your opinion of what Love's trade value is(We already know it's more than 4th or 5th) and his potential? From highlights? That's really not much different than looking at box scores to scout a baseball player.
  18. Oh, as for the actual play...I don't know what route could have been run wrong, but I'm fairly certain it was run poorly. Is that a dig? There's almost no cut on the play, so it looks more like a skinny post, but then he flattens out. I guess an option route makes sense here, but THIS was a terrible throw from Love. This is one of the throws and then the one into Winfree. Those are the two turnover worthy plays.
  19. Oof...you can say that again. "With all due respect, I study this stuff for a living. We are not the same." That was in response to him just on a rant about not signing Adams and trading him away and ALL he'd do is complain about it. It was actually funny, but someone basically said, 'Peter, you're just a guy with a podcast, if you knew as much as you claimed, you'd be working in a front office.' That one got him! And then the "we're not the same" started coming. Anyway, Andy Herman. That guy really is just a guy with a podcast, he doesn't pretend he's got all the answers, but he's got more of them than anyone else I've seen and other than pro-Packers bias, I don't see him picking favorites and just blindly riding with them. He's the guy I want to hear about from a practice.
  20. I just want to be clear, I KNOW how bad so many people in this Country have it...we're not..."victims," and things are being resolved. There are people...who I saw first hand couldn't pay rent and who were desperate and they were good people.
  21. That was me and I was simply repeating a point another scout had made. But I do not believe they count bunting among exit velocities for. I've seen when they've adjusted FOR bunts and they put all bunts down at 40MPH. That said, he only had one bunt, AND he only had 2 "hard hit" balls, and his hardest was 100.6 MPH. So lets say, for the sake of argument, 1 bunt=40MPH, 2 Hard hit balls. Using his hardest hit ball at 100.6 and then the bare minimum for the other, 95 MPH, that's an average exit velocity of 78.3. So for the other 19 batted balls...well, either way, he wasn't hitting the ball hard on average. These come with all the disclaimers, 22 batted balls, first trip up, all that. -This is when I swerved more than a LITTLE off-topic into blind speculation; This is why I believe he's the most likely to be flipped this off-season for a larger upgrade. I think Tampa Bay could be a good fit for the Brewers. They seem to lack CF prospects, but they've got 2 guys in AAA who have 65 hit tools, one with 70 speed(though just 20 power). They have Yandy Diaz. I could see Ruiz for Diaz or maybe Mitchell+Ruiz for Curtis Mead or Xavier Edwards+Colby White or Nick Bitsko. The later is a high upside pitcher with a shoulder injury, the prior is a reliever who will very likely be a big league closer sooner than later but will miss all of '23 tue to TJ. Of course Stearns/Arnold/Flanagan, maybe they all really just love Ruiz that much. still, I see 4 guys in the OF in AAA and Yelich engrained in one spot and they're unlikely to take a talented athlete with a good glove and stick him at DH. What's more, I don't wanna jump the gun here and I sincerely doubt he'd factor into these decisions, but Jackson Chourio doesn't seem like he's going to be a typical prospect who spends half a year at each level. He COULD start in AA and then be ready, legitimately ready by '23/'24. I know, that's getting WAAAY ahead of ourselves(though in looking at prospects who've debuted before the age of 20, it's a lot longer list than I'd anticipated...which got me even MORE off-topic and had me wondering if the Brewers may do a Wander Franco like deal with Jackson Chourio, a 18 year old who's currently struggling...in so much as he struggles, at HiA ball...so yeah, WAY off topic). But we've got OFers. We need impact corner IFers. We don't have any. Black is the only prospect other than Turang on the way unless you count Brown(and since I'm already handing out a 200M extension to Chourio, we may as well).
  22. The one to Danny Davis? The 49ers were playing cover zero. He looked to the left, came back to Davis and made a NEAR perfect throw. Maybe a bit more toward the sideline there, but David was even with the CB. That's almost exactly how you want to throw that ball. Let the CB over run it and give your WRer a chance to make a play. There is absolutely no reason to throw that ball high. I just disagree with you on this. I presume you're talking about the one he had to come up, fair catch and go to his knees for? He caught the ball cleanly. I think you're still impacted by last year. I don't recall any issues with him tonight(though I'm still holding my breath when he fields a punt, I'm not sure it was actually warranted tonight). Though he DID look night and day different physically. Actually had some explosion to him, some burst...as shown on the KR or the TD. I don't know what that means for him in the bigger picture, but it gives me some hope at least.
  23. There were a couple big mistakes and if he were our starting QB this year, I'd be very concerned. I'm grading him A-Against himself from last year and B-as a 23 year old QB with obvious physical talent. I'm not hanging all the other crap on him that's got nothing to do with him. It's the pre-season, so I don't care about the state line all that much. I care that he looks like he's growing...and I think he is. I don't know what he is yet...but I also know those saying he sucks or he's a bust...they don't know either. I thought he made some really-really nice plays and then two really poor ones and basically...he's getting better. The guy didn't have a pre-season as a rookie, had one game last year effectively. And then a regular season game in which the OL was absolutely terrible. If he becomes a very good starting QB, I won't be surprised. If he becomes a backup, I won't be surprised. If he becomes an MVP caliber QB, that'll surprise me, but that will surprise me with any young QB. Maybe it would have been better if he only played the one series and was done after the TD throw to Doubs? Then people would be happier, they'd have a prettier stat line. He wouldn't have gotten as much work, it wouldn't have helped him as much, but there'd be less people ripping the guy. I saw a ton of really great things to take from this game. The DL moved the LOS, even our 6th and 7th DL played well, our 4th and 5th CBs played well. I wasn't impressed with our OL, but they were solid. Some like Hanson were much better than I'd seen before. Tom looked like a very mobile pass blocker, but wasn't finishing his blocks. Couldn't really see much of Rhyan. One guy that stood out a bit deeper in the game was Tariq Carpenter. He looks fluid and he plays fast. Goodson needs to run with his pads lower, Baylor needs to read the blocks better(great catch and throw on the wheel route though). One more quick one among a whole lot, Caleb Jones looks like more than an oddity out there. He looks VERY intriguing. And Caleb Jones looks like he can set the edge and get after the QB. I think our edges played pretty well, but he stood out a bit more than anyone else(and Enagbare was a guy I really liked). But above all else, the Packers have a LOT of talent on the DL, they're physical, reset the LOS and it's also REALLY tough to fairly evaluate anyone in the pre-season when you're playing with such uneven talent.
