Brutal. Di Turi chases a neck high FB for strike 3. Had chased 3 pitches in a row on full counts and leaked over home plate and gets interference called against him which means Braylon Payne who successfully stole 2B was ruled out. The moment has looked way too big for the Mudcats at many times tonight. Relievers unable to throw strikes. A bunch of errors. Bad throwing decisions. Bad baserunning. It's looking like this might be another year with a 1st round playoff exit for the Mudcats.
-
Braylon Payne draws a leadoff walk in the 8th. Time to get those wheels going.
-
And the leadoff walk comes back to bite Broca. It's 7-6 Nats after a SB and 2 flyouts.
-
Jesus Broca is also struggling to throw strikes. Feels like the Mudcats bullpen is going to cost them the game today.
-
TAYDEN HALL! He crashes in on the sac bunt attempt and makes a sliding catch then spins around while on the ground and throws out the runner at 1B for a double play!
-
Juan Baez was just HBP in the head. He's down face first on the ground.
-
Don't think it can be emphasized enough how important winning this game is for the Mudcats. Going into Thursday down 1-0 facing Sykora is a recipe for disaster.
-
Broca keeps the game tied. We head to the 7th and it's officially a bullpen game!
-
And Austin blows the Mudcats 6-3 lead. Defense didn’t help him much but you just have to throw strikes.
-
Morris Austin really struggling to throw strikes.
-
106 EV!!
-
JADHER AREINAMO BOMB!
-
I very much appreciate the Nats leaving Clemmey in that long!
-
Carolina might have something cooking here in the 4th. Clemmey’s command is starting to fade.
-
Nats just totally in control here. Dictating everything about this game. Mudcats look like a shell shocked young team.
-
I feel like I'm watching Brewers playoff baseball right now. Just absolutely nothing from the bats here early in either game.
-
Horrible. Ump needs to get his eyes checked.
-
Yhoswar was blatantly safe and was called out at 1B. Brutal umping that the Mudcats can't afford.
-
It does suck having to face Clemmey and Sykora who are probably 2 of the 5 best pitchers still in the Carolina league. From a stuff perspective they might be 1-2.
-
Carolina is the youngest team in the Carolina League and they played like it in the 1st inning. Yophery with bad baserunning turning a leadoff double into an out. Corniel/Bitonti miscommunication on a pickoff. Yophery overthrowing the cutoff. Corniel trying to make a circus play instead of letting his defense behind him do their job. Spotting Clemmey an early 2-0 lead is not ideal especially with Sykora waiting on Thursday.
-
Corniel tries to make a jumping grab and deflects the ball over the infield. 2-0 Nats. Brutal start.
-
Another roped single to CF. This could get ugly here in this inning.
-
Corniel is getting rocked here early. 108, 103, 108 EV off the bat for the Nats. Yophery with a poor choice to overthrow the cutoff allowing the runner to reach 2B. It's 1-0 Nats and likely headed for more.
-
Hopefully Clemmey burns out early. He's very clearly throwing harder than normal reaching back to 96-97 multiple times in the inning.
-
I thought he was clearly out. Still shocked there was even remotely a play there. That should have been a relatively routine double.
