  1. Baseball America has Mitchell with 80 grade speed. Mitchell is 6th in baseball with a sprint speed of 30.2 feet/second. Mitchell is first in baseball from HP to 1B at 4.01 seconds. Those are the facts. I’m now moving on.
  2. Agree. Just a special team chemistry-wise. Pitching, defense, stealing bases, moving runners, clutch hitting, just ran out of games. Last home game of the season they gave away a Yount memorabilia book and had to delay the game because of traffic jams around county stadium, people couldn’t get in to the stadium. Reminded me of the home series vs the Rangers in ‘87 during Easter weekend when Selig had them delay the games for nearly an hour because of record same day ticket purchases. Just under 56,000 super enthusiastic fans willing the team to a Sunday sweep of the A’s. Magical years at county stadium in ‘92 & ‘87.
  3. Asinine is quite the strong word. I’d probably just call it a mistake to trade Mitchell this offseason for anybody let alone a 2 years controlled C. Big difference between 80 grade speed (Mitchell & Carroll) and 70 grade-speed (Chourio & Ruiz) and most of the others you mentioned. I don’t care that he doesn’t elevate right now, I’d prefer he hits line drives and use his speed to run around the bases. The power will come eventually like it does from many good hitters with strength. I just don’t understand how any Brewers fan can watch Mitchell play baseball and think it a good idea to include him in any trade, let alone for a C with only 2 years of control. You have your opinion, I have mine. Time to move on.
  4. Carroll is the only one of the players you mentioned that approaches Mitchell’s speed, and while I love both Chourio & Wiemer’s tools, neither have Mitchell’s game-changing speed. And Mitchell was a top 100 prospect that fell-out due mostly to not being able to stay on the field. But now after the season he had should be back in the top 100 again. But you go ahead and trade Mitchell and CRod for 2 years of Jansen, while I keep them in this organization, and figure out a different trade package or sign a Vasquez until Quero is ready.
  5. Blacks knocking the rust off his bat, Uribe’s command improvement, and Warren’s offensive resurgence the second-half of the minors season, and now in the AFL, has put a cherry on top of this teams 2022 farm system development. Outside of injury (Zamora & Rodriguez) the only disappointments development-wise out of our top 20 or so prospects that come to my mind are Small, R. Smith, and Valerio. In my opinion, this teams farm system is now as deep as I’ve ever seen it. Not just stacked with talented positional prospects, which it has to rival any teams positional prospects, but also now, thanks to the last draft-class and development by a handful of 19-21 year old arms, getting deeper with arms as well, even if most are at the lower levels. I’m expecting this farm to get safely inside the top 10 from most sites, and that’s before the possible Burnes trade.
  6. I stand corrected. Doesn’t change my opinion of the Orioles being a team without a burning desire to trade for Burnes. Rodriguez is as close to a likely frontline SP prospect as there has been in the minors in quite some time, imo, and he’s probably pitching in the big-leagues by July of ‘23, if not sooner.
  7. Nice job, lots of good ideas. Like the bullpen moves. Like the Woodruff extension. Like the Idea of trading Burnes, just don’t think Baltimore is the most realistic trade-partner for Burnes, and for the reason wiguy already stated. I suppose if Baltimore thought they could extend him, ok, but that seems too risky. Would absolutely love the return, which is likely also the problem from Baltimore’s point of view. They are short of quality IF prospects and losing Westburg and the best pitching prospect in baseball might be too much for them to bear. Trading Mitchell is a no no for me, but including CRod would be unbearable, so no. Instead, I trade or non-tender Renfroe and use the $11M saved to sign Christian Vasquez for 2/3 years at $17-$24M. That way I can play Mitchell in RF until Wiemer takes over so then I have the fastest, best defensive OF in baseball most of the year, with Yelich at DH where he belongs. Which also means a trade of Tellez should happen.
  8. Excellent post. I would only add Stearns having also worked for Cleveland’s FO as well, Shapiro, Antonetti, Falvey, etc. That’s an awful lot of small-market brainpower to have learned from between the two of them.
  9. Ok, if you can’t get past me using the word potential superstar, then my mistake for using that description in the first place. He doesn’t need to reach that status to be untradable at this point in his career. Mitchell is one of the fastest players in baseball. Has a near cannon for an arm. Is gifted defensively. Has big-time raw power. A fast bat. A good batting eye. And good plate discipline. There are not 100-150 players like him. Pure tools & talent, he’s as close to a unicorn as a prospect can get imo. And since he’s talented enough to have reached the big-leagues, and had some success, after only playing in 120 minor league games, I’m not trading that potential off, not yet, not until I see what he can do with more big-league development.
  10. I’m not saying a superstar is on the way. Only that I’m not trading a talent like him until I see what he can do.
  11. “Potential” — future superstar.
  12. Put it this way, I’m not trading him this offseason. He gets a full season from me first.
  13. He’s hasn’t even played a full season of minors games yet. He’s an incredible talent. I want to see him play baseball before I trade him.
  14. Mitchell’s potential is off the charts. That doesn’t get traded. That gets kept. That’s my opinion, but I’m not trading what could eventually become a superstar player. Nope.
  15. No, you don’t trade a Mitchell unless you’re fairly certain he’s not going to reach his ceiling.
  16. Unless the Brewers think otherwise, trading a potential superstar talent like Mitchell should not happen. Ruiz, yes, Mitchell, Wiemer, Frelick, no. Go the FA route in acquiring a C, if a deal can’t be worked-out that doesn’t require the 3 aforementioned OF’s.
  17. We are in a good place, especially with regards to the amateur draft. Back to back to back supreme classes that have transformed the teams farm. Mitchell & Wiemer from the ‘20 class, Frelick, Black, Rodriguez & Avina in ‘21, and maybe their best class last year with Brown, Moore, Misiorowski, Wagoner, Woessner, Adames, Wood & Hall. Johnson & co after a slow start, ‘17 &’19 drafts left a lot to be desired, now look like a well oiled machine. Losing Groopman to the Bosox hurt, but Matt Klentack, imo, was a good hire by the FO to help keep the international department strong, which it absolutely has been since Arnold & Groopman helped turn things around, especially with regards to scouting Venezuela. If they can keep this pipeline going, when they trade-off Burnes, Woodruff and Adames if they can’t extend, this organization’s young talent will be extraordinary.
  18. And was the man Stearns picked to help him rebuild the Brewers organization. First hires mean a lot. I know he was instrumental in building-up their IFA department, scouting the likes of Garcia, Hedbert & Quero back when he was assistant GM. Looking forward to his continuing to strengthen the organization as a whole, which without question, Stearns has masterfully accomplished over the last 7 years.
  19. They have 4 rookie OF’s plus Taylor to fill CF & RF. Not unreasonable to think they can get the production they need from the aforementioned to not need Renfroe and his $11M salary. Chaffin & Hand are a couple of LH HL bullpen arms that this team could possibly sign in the $5-$8M range. There are others. IMO, they need 4 at the backend they can count on to hold, and right now they only have 2. Vasquez is a pretty big upgrade offensively over what we got from Narvaez last year. I’ll take an IF with Peterson at 3B, Adames at SS, Turang at 2B and if he can’t hit then Urias can play 2B. That’s enough protection for me. Im not trading Burnes, Woodruff and Adames in the same offseason if possible, especially Burnes and Woodruff. Trading one hurts the return on the other.
  20. Hardly. The industry knows what a brilliant baseball ops leader Stearns is, even if some fans don’t
  21. I’ll take Vasquez at $8M/year for 3 years, and pass at anything more than that.
  22. An outfield of Frelick, Mitchell, Wiemer, L to R would rival Arizona’s for speed and defense. I like Drury, but Peterson will also work at third. I like Quintana, but a Cueto would work as well. Point is — an innings-eating veteran starter to replace most of Burnes’s innings so the team can trade him and get a return that sets the team up for years of success. Vazquez is a big upgrade at C over what we’ve had recently and would probably take a 2/3 year contract to land. If a catcher is a part of the Burnes return then fine, but I wouldn’t demand a Moreno or a Cartaya, and would rather get better and or more pitching returned, but I’m a huge Quero fan. Agree Uribe will be post S2.
  23. Trading Renfroe & Burnes and letting Wong go saves $31M that can be used to bring Peterson back to play 3B or sign Drury for third. Vazquez, Quintana and a HL bullpen arm or 2. I feel pretty good with Mitchell, Wiemer or Taylor replacing most if not all of Renfroe’s 2.5 WAR, and Urias/Turang replacing Wong’s 3 WAR. I’ll take 3 GG caliber OF’s, Drury/Peterson at 3B, Adames, Urias/Turang, Tellez, Vazquez with Yelich at DH. Woodruff, Peralta, Lauer, Ashby, Quintana, Houser with a post S2 bullpen having Gasser and Miller/Tiedmann impacting, along with a HL arm joining Williams, Bush, and Uribe.
  24. Sign a FA C to pair with Caratini. Keep all the prospects so Renfroe can be traded and Wong let go, freeing up $19M that can be used to acquire Christian Vasquez & Jose Quintana. Then trade Burnes saving another $12M that can be used to bring-in a stud bullpen arm or 2. Too much upside to trade our best prospects, especially after the improvements made by all the second-half of the minors season.
  25. Your opinion, mine differs. Miller pitched better at AAA to end his season, including a 15 K game. Miller throws harder and holds his velo longer than Tiedemann. All things being equal, I’ll take the prospects closer to BLR — less risk. The development arc is a bonus.
