  1. A 2-2 night on Tuesday won't change these standings all that much - the Crew representing here very well. Organizational Overall Minor League Records through Sunday May 1st
  2. The affiliates win three of five on Saturday and move to a cumulative 50-33 after one month of action. Combine that with the big-league Brewers tied for best in the National League with a 15-7 mark, and the organization is 65-40. Seems that "develop a winning culture" is a real thing, no affiliate under .500 as of this morning. Kudos to all! Transactions: From our Minor League Forum season-long transaction thread - LHP Arman Sabouri (Tommy John surgery, September 2021) and OF Je'Von Ward were both placed on the Wisconsin 60-day IL on April 8th, though the transactions just posted online. I don't believe we ever saw a definitive report on the nature of Ward's injury, so we won't speculate, but he won't be back until mid-June at the earliest. RHP Juan Geraldo (Mudcats 2021) was placed on the Carolina 60-day, also as of this year's Opening Day, April 8th. He too underwent Tommy John surgery last fall. While technically not a transaction, for those of you who have been missing Biloxi's prized prospect Felix Valerio - MiLB.TV archive of Wed. 4/27 game (for subscribers) Go to the 3 hour, 3 minute mark. Valerio lines a double down the right-field line, beautiful (as always) piece of hitting for Felix. As the throw comes in to 2nd Valerio does an awkward stutter-step / half-slide as if he was indecisive about how he wished to approach the bag. Having been thrown out (insult to injury), Valerio sits by the bag grabbing the back of his left leg with his left hand just above the knee. A few seconds later, Valerio makes his way to a standing position on his own, but still with a bit of a cringe and effort. The telecast goes to a replay and Valerio is not on the field after that, having fairly quickly made his way to the dugout. Voice of the Shuckers Garrett Greene noted that Cam Devanney came in to replace Valerio (who was starting in left field for this game - Valerio has eight starts at second base, one at third base, and five in LF). No mention of Valerio's status was made at that immediate moment, understandably. Not being able to listen to every sound bite from every game, it's possible that Valerio's injury status has been discussed on air (in fact very likely considering Valerio's prospect pedigree and that he's now missed three games, but nothing has been in printed/online form). FYI - I did then listen to both the Wednesday postgame and the Thursday pre-game and first inning, but no specific Valerio mention. After all the angst, just watch, Felix will be in Tuesday's lineup (hopefully), as they will take advantage of Monday's day off, so don't expect him on Sunday. *** Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final, Completion of Friday's Suspended Game: Nashville 7, St. Paul (Twins) 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Since the Sounds posted a combined report Saturday, this was the summary we linked to yesterday - Sounds, Saints Suspended After Six Innings - Turang and Singleton each homer in second straight game Final, Regularly Scheduled Game: Nashville 12, St. Paul 3, five innings, rain Box Score / Game Log Sounds Rout Saints in Rain-Shortened Win - Nashville Wins Third Straight in St. Paul The Sounds squeeze ten hits and seven walks into just five innings. Every batter reached, and seven of them reached more than once! That is crazy impressive, just five innings! And Weston Wilson would have reached twice if he hadn't been robbed here - Mark Mathias worked really hard for his grand slam, and here's why. Normally the "Mic'd Up" player-with-teammates is not a worthwhile effort, but Mathias was actually very entertaining here! He indicated he needed his long ball. This squad is just so strong in all aspects of this sport. Keep it up, Nashville, you've been a joy thus far. *** Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes via the Shuckers' Virtual Press Box Final: Biloxi 9, Pensacola (Marlins) 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please review: Six-Run Inning Helps Shuckers Separate In 9-1 Win Over Wahoos - Cam Devanney Goes 3-for-3 With 3 RBI Luis Urias 1-for-5, saw action at both SS and 3B. Sure, Joey Wiemer was being his usual awesome self, on base three times and driving in two, but let's hear it for Cam Devanney. The versatile Devanney reached four times including - Devanney's 2021 in Biloxi was, as they say, the opposite of good. We will note that he was skipped two levels coming off the lost 2020 Covid season. So last summer in AA was the 2019 15th rounder's first taste of full-season ball. Devanney just posted a .746 OPS in April, It wasn't much of a big league cup of coffee in 2006, but did anyone think Chris Barnwell was on a big-league trajectory? That's why you keep the jersey on, men. Keep rockin' Cam. Lest we forget the afore-mentioned Mr. Joey - *** Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes via their all-encompassing Virtual Press Box Final: Peoria (Cardinals) 12, Wisconsin 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please review: Chiefs Slug Rattlers 12-2 - Wisconsin falls behind early You'll notice when a game is pretty ugly (blowout loss, four errors, two balks), Chris' headlines are appreciably shorter. 22-year-old RHP Justin Jarvis' 2022 WHIP of 1.60 nearly matches last summer's 2021 unappealing 1.55 figure. Time is still on the side of the 2018 5th round pick out of a North Carolina high school, and the Brewers have been adamant in keeping Jarvis in a starting role. Might he find better success in shorter stints? If nothing else, the experienced infield duo of Yeison Coca and Antonio Pinero should be giving the T-Rats supreme defense up the middle as we await Tyler Black's return from the violent first base collision from earlier this week. But in this clumsy contest, even Coca committed a throwing error. A bit of a pattern developing within this box score - batters who have been warm-to-hot remain as such even in a lopsided defeat, and batters who have been hotsy-notsy continue to struggle. These fine athletes must really dislike the small-sample notes on the negative side. It's one reason we strive to highlight the positive, I'd say 95% of the time within these reports, over the years. *** Final: Down East (Rangers) 2, Carolina 0 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please review: Mudcats Blanked Again, 2-0 in Kinston - The Carolina offense was held to just two hits in Saturday’s shutout loss to the Wood Ducks 20-year-old Dominican native RHP Alexander Cornielle (80 grade name) is sporting a shiny 1.56 ERA through four starts, but a deeper look shows that he has allowed 11 runs in 17.1 innings, but eight of those runs are unearned, and his WHIP sits at 1.85 with a base on ball per inning. So work to do. Sometimes you have to pick up your teammates in the field. In a repeated comment theme from yesterday's report, the nuances of a low-A box score in comparison with a AAA or AA box are glaring. You can just see the inexperience dripping off your screen as you review the Carolina boxes, and that's to be expected. Mudcats third baseman Alberis Ferrer was ejected after grounding out, and in my mind, an image of a frustrated helmet throwdown took place, whether that occurred or not. A commitment to bullpen work is really agreeing with 21-year-old Michele Vassalotti, a 13-to-1 K-to-BB ratio in 11 IP over seven appearances. 4. Good morning to all - we'll be visiting a suspended game for the Sounds, an unsuspended game for the Mudcats, a shutout reversal for the Shuckers, and a wild one for the Timber Rattlers and their play-by-play stalwart Chris Mehring. Do check out the noteworthy Twitter thread. Now while it seems like Chris has been with the Link Report (born in 2001) since the beginning, remember that the Timber Rattlers were a Mariners affiliate through 2008. But we gladly accept Chris as "an original" with us, and to say he's been anything less than a Friend of Brewerfan through the years would be an understatement. Congrats Chris, Here's to the next 20 years with several championship seasons mixed in, both on the big league and prospect stage! Transactions: Outfield shuffling in Nashville, as per the Sounds Media Notes - Abraham Almonte and Garrett Whitley were each placed on the 7-day injured list, both retroactive to 4/25. Just in time to help patrol the grass, Jonathan Davis played in his first game since 4/9. We are not aware of the status/reason behind the placements. OF Tristen Lutz has been activated from the 7-day IL at Biloxi. In his latest minor league notes extravaganza, Will Sammon of The Athletic indicates that Lutz has been out since fouling a ball off his cheekbone during a batting practice session in the cage. Sammon's full piece is here, and while I won't pretend that subscription fees (even discounted) are everyone's cup of tea, rest assured that if you do invest, you won't be disappointed in Will's Brewers organizational coverage top to bottom. Fireballing RHP Abner Uribe (season-ending knee surgery) was formally placed on the Shuckers' 60-day IL. 19-year-old catcher Jesus Garcia hopped on a plane from Maryvale to join the AAA Sounds. Garcia, with all of 44 pro at-bats under his belt from 2021, is clearly a temporary visitor. What this tells us is that Mario Feliciano is currently unavailable, as Nashville's other catcher, Brian Navarreto, started on Friday. Normally if there is going to be a brief need, the organization prefers not to mess with existing tandem catching situations in the other full-season locales. So, we've seen similar placements in past years, good for Jesus, though. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Suspended after six innings: Nashville 3, St. Paul (Twins) 3 Gameday Thus Far Via the Sounds' site, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds, Saints Suspended After Six Innings - Turang and Singleton each homer in second straight game Despite the relatively short night, several worthwhile nuggets in that just-linked report. In miserable conditions, the shot shown here was a serious poke. We are watching some wonderful Brice Turang evolution taking place, folks. Tickle Brewers brass pink for sure. If I'm not mistaken, if Luke Barker had held a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the 6th, the game would have been called and not suspended, with the Sounds victorious. But it was an uncharacteristic sequence for Barker, and neither the Saints' announcer nor I am sure where this Jonathan Davis throw was headed on the game-tying knock. *** Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes via the Shuckers' Virtual Press Box Final: Pensacola (Marlins) 4, Biloxi 0 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please review: Wahoos Flip Script, Blank Shuckers 4-0 - Nick Bennett Turns In Quality Outing For Biloxi We had spotlighted then-still-18-year-old Miami RHP phenom Eury Perez when Biloxi opened the season on the road. But Biloxi got to Perez as he tired on that first night, and the young man's subsequent two starts left him with an ERA of 7.50 entering play Friday night. But five innings of one-hit ball with 12 K's (no walks, two HBP's) reminds us all that the Marlins' pitching development success is set to continue. Via the Biloxi broadcast booth, Garrett and Thomas got to practice their "swing and a miss" calls here -- Let's wrap up with this web gem via Freddy Zamora's first-ever professional game at second base - Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes via their all-encompassing Virtual Press Box Final: Peoria (Cardinals) 13, Wisconsin 10 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please review: Chiefs Outrun Rattlers for Comeback Win - Wisconsin led 9-5 with two outs in bottom of the seventh, but drops 13-10 decision at Peoria Whew, there was a lot to digest there, but Chris Mehring didn't let 42 combined baserunners (and their ten stolen bases) interfere with getting his work in for us on his noted Cal Ripken-esque night of duties. Nineteen games into the T-Rats season, and three players - Ethan Murray, Tristan Peters, and Carlos Rodriguez - each with their first big fly of the season, so that was uniquely fun. How often will there be two players on the losing side of the ledger reach base all five times up? Catcher Darrien Miller and Rodriguez with the perfect evenings at the plate. Miller is such an impressive offensive presence, and just turned 21 last month. But especially with the new baserunning enhancement measures at MiLB's lower levels, Miller has posted ugly caught stealing defensive numbers and I'll be honest, it's hard unless we're watching night in and night out just what to make of it all. But on the surface, having 167 stolen bases against (vs. 30 thrown out) in 77 games is not ideal. By the way, catchers should never be charged with two stolen bases allowed when a double steal takes place. Joe Gray Jr. was 1-for-5 with a double. Doubles are good, but Gray K'd in his four other at-bats as the designated hitter. He's working on things, as he sent this our way pre-game: Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final, Completion of Thursday's Suspended Game: Carolina 6, Down East (Rangers) 5 Box Score / Game Log Final, Regularly Scheduled Game: Carolina 6, Down East 5, seven innings as scheduled Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please review: Mudcats Sweep Doubleheader in Kinston - Carolina came back from a late deficit in game 1 and an early hole in game 2 while sweeping the twin-bill Wow, mark that as the rare 6-5 double play on your virtual scorecard! Bonus points for the use of "de facto" in the summary. Yeah, the Muddies were gifted Game One, but they (and we) will take it. And to immediately make a point in Game Two, how many 6-5 games ever were recorded where each team scored all their runs in a single frame? This one was bottom of the 1st deficit, top of the 2nd comeback. Can't really tell from the game log what prompted Hitting Coach Ken Joyce's ejection in the nightcap. A sweep despite K'ing a combined 21 times and drawing only three walks (Carolina batters were plunked four times in the twinbill). Love digging into Low-A box scores - just wait until the complex leagues begin! Nice Game Two outcome when one considers Hendry Mendez, Hedbert Perez and Jeferson Quero all on the bench. Just a reminder that every day we kick off a preview and live commentary thread on our Minor League Forum. Here was Friday's, and my fellow Link Reporter damuelle was particularly active with tidbits and updates on this date. The volume there will vary day-to-day, but it's a way to check in prior to the formal Link Report posting, which we continue to strive for in the "by 7:00 AM Central" ballpark. 6. Transactions: None *** Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 9, Charlotte (White Sox) 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Clinch Series Win Over Charlotte in Front of Sellout Crowd - Pair of Homers, Pablo Reyes Web Gems Highlight Nashville’s 9-1 Win There were 17 Nashville baserunners with Abraham Almonte, Tyler White, and Alex Jackson each reaching three times. Three others (Brice Turang, Mark Mathias, and Andruw Monasterio) reached twice. The depth on this club is apparent -- David Dahl, Weston Wilson, Jon Singleton and Corey Ray were on the bench here. Speaking of depth, the big league Brewers are likely in trouble if Pablo Reyes sees regular time in left field, but Pablo's a fun player capable of this -- Whether by design or not, like the fact that Nashville relievers are regularly coming in mid-inning, whether men are on base or not, even in blowout wins. Nice touch if planned, preparedness for future big spots. Glorious ballpark, wonderful fanbase (another sellout), fantastic city. The UW-Lacrosse product was tabbed in the 33rd round by San Diego in 2017. Side note - the Brewers lost catcher Kekai Rios to the Dodgers in that Rule 5 phase, he's stationed with High-A Great Lakes in the Midwest League. Insightful tweet from the Voice of the Sounds - As effective and impressive as the 8-4 Sounds have been, the sheer number of bodies both on the mound and in the field is a bit annoying from a fan perspective, actually. Guys shuffle in and out of the bullpen and the lineup as they have to get their work in, we try to figure out who is where in terms of availability, and it's likely frustrating in the clubhouse as well. Winning helps, it would seem, but for how long? We are going to be reading a lot about the topic below in the coming weeks from all outposts in minor league baseball: Worth your time today: *** Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes via the Shuckers' Virtual Press Box Final: Biloxi 5, Mississippi (Braves) 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please review: Reetz' Multi-Homer Game Secures Sunday Victory - Shuckers Tie Best Start in Franchise History Drafted in the 3rd round out of a Nebraska high school in 2014 (wonder if Brewers radio broadcaster Lane Grindle ever crossed paths with the then-youngster), the uniquely-named Jakson Reetz had spent the entirety of his pro career in the Nationals' system prior to his minor league free agent signing with the Crew last fall. Reetz does have one big league knock on his resume. As for Reetz' Sunday, I will wager we won't see a Brewers minor leaguer be responsible for all of his team's RBI with a higher number than Reetz' five this season. Talk about limiting the damage, starting LHP Nick Bennett allowed two hits, walked four batters, and plunked two others, all in three innings. Net result - one run allowed. Can't expect to dance that dance very often. Kudos to RHP's Nash Walters (two perfect frames) and Zach Vennaro (stranded two inherited in the 8th, then closed out the game). *** Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes via their all-encompassing Virtual Press Box Final: Beloit (Marlins) 3, Wisconsin 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please review: Wisconsin Falls 3-2 in Series Finale at Beloit - Rattlers strand nine in close loss to Sky Carp LHP Antoine Kelly pitched scoreless ball until this RBI triple in the 5th, which was followed by a sacrifice fly. From the Chris Mehring recap you just read: Wisconsin hitters went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded nine runners on Sunday afternoon. Both of Wisconsin’s runs were unearned. That is some rip-your-hair-out-at-the-roots attempts at offense there. Here's hoping the bats (and temperatures) warm up back in Grand Chute on Tuesday. He hadn't even turned 17 years old yet, and had posted a .919 OPS in his first ten professional games. Then came the lost 2020 campaign, followed by an .824 OPS in the Maryvale heat in his 2021 summer of shaking off that rust. The young man is likely an inch taller now than his listed 6'2" and well, excuse me while I grab extra napkins to control the salivating. With due respect to Brice Turang and Freddy Zamora, Garcia is the shortstop who will eventually plant himself in Milwaukee for the 8-10 year run. RF Hendry Mendez (I believe I saw he's the youngest player in the Carolina League at this time) reached base thrice. According to the game log, although it appears he ended the 5th inning on the field, third baseman Alberis Ferrer would not return to the field in the 6th. Upon pulling up the MiLB.TV video, Ferrer dove and knocked down a hard ground ball that would go for an infield hit. he would be hunched over after getting to his feet and was tended to by the training staff. Looked like he was trying to flex his right leg. Subscribers can go to the 02:23:30 hour/minute mark if curious. Announcers were very complimentary of Ferrer's athleticism while noting his early-season throwing troubles. Similarly, I failed to point out in the report for Saturday's games that stud prospect catcher Jeferson Quero left the game at an odd juncture, early in the bottom of the Fredericksburg 8th. So it was another venture to the MiLB.TV archive - 02:58:35 hour/minute mark, and oh my, Quero took a wicked foul-tip off the mask that jarred his hockey-style helmet completely, never left his feet, but was guided off the field. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 3, Gwinnett (Braves) 0 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Win Series with Second Straight Shutout - Caleb Boushley Fires Five Scoreless Innings to Earn First Win The major league phase of the Rule 5 draft didn't take place last December, but the minor league phase did, and that is how Milwaukee grabbed Hortonville, Wisconsin native Caleb Boushley from a five-year run in the Padres' system. T-Rats had ten men reach base via HBP or walk. They also K'd 15 times. Well, the forecast says wait until Thursday for any semblance of warmth. *** Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 4, Fredericksburg (Nationals) 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please review: Garcia Totals Four Hits & Perez Homers in Finale Victory - The Mudcats took Sunday’s series finale 4-2 in Fredericksburg and finished at 2-4 in the series Let's not forget that just a couple of weeks into his 2019 Dominican Summer League debut season, SS Eduardo Garcia fractured his right fibula and lost the rest of that year. That was nasty, best wishes to Jeferson, we may see some precautionary concussion protocol for him this week. *** Enjoy your Minor League Monday off! 13. We're going to return to including some additional links at the tail end of each day's report. It'll look like this (the first link has been in place for the 2022 season and will continue): Organizational Scoreboard including starting pitcher info, game times, MiLB TV links, and box scores Links for affiliate audio Standings and sortable stat pages That's a convenient link to tune in to the fine play-by-play work we are treated to at all four locales. The final link includes both the individual player stats as well as the league stats so you can tell how each affiliate compares to their league peers via the sortable columns. Of course, the numbers will mean more in that regard as we get deeper into the season, but we already know -- Nashville is tied for 17th in the 20-team International League with just seven HR's through 11 games. On the flip side, the Sounds pace the league in ERA at 3.15. Through eight games, Biloxi also is the ERA leader in the eight-team Southern League at 2.94. The Shuckers despite the glamorous 7-1 start are middle-of-the-pack in most offensive categories. Despite having the 3rd lowest batting average in the 12-team Midwest League at .173 through eight games, Wisconsin batters have fanned the fewest times at 65. And oh yes, your Milwaukee Brewers have three affiliates leading their league in ERA (T-Rats at 2.52). A recent rough patch has the Carolina team ERA at 6.19, 11th in the 12-team Carolina League. Batting .258, Carolina batters are 2nd in the league with that mark. We hope the convenience of having these links readily available to you each day adds to the overall value the Link Report provides. Now on to the Saturday game action, which was rather non-descript save for the men sitting highest in the organizational food chain. No transactions on Saturday. *** Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 10, Gwinnett (Braves) 0 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Small, Sounds Cruise Past Gwinnett - Nashville Dominates Stripers to Take Command of Series It's becoming pretty clear that the Brewers did just fine for themselves with the 28th overall pick of the 2019 draft. Because of his injury-impacted extended Mississippi State career, Ethan Small is already 25 and will be in his prime years with the Crew before any thoughts of free agency arrives. Isn't it awkward small-market fans need to consider such things? But we do, and yes, we're getting ahead of ourselves, but it sure appears that Small is lining himself up for a fantastic big league run. It is hard for long-time fans of this organization to wrap our collective heads around the pitching development machine we are following these days. So this is what it felt like to be a Braves or Dodgers fan the past few decades. Burnes - Woodruff - Peralta - Houser- Lauer all under Milwaukee team control through 2024. Aaron Ashby on hand, My goodness, how fascinating is it going to be to see what position player gold David Stearns and Matt Arnold will be able to net by spinning off the overflow of pitching riches. Why do I see things like Luke Barker coming for in Luis Perdomo with one out in the 9th after Perdomo had retired the last only batters he faced, and think something is up? Did Barker need the work, as he had Thursday and Friday off. It was a ten-run lead after all. Why not have Barker start the 9th? This is how my mind works, and I am not the better for it! Every batter but Corey Ray (0-for-5) contributed. Unfortunately when you are the only player not to have a night, you may get that sort of mention. This is Ray's last option year, does anyone see him sticking in Milwaukee to stay as of next April? Man, that first round of the 2016 MLB draft is going to go down in history as pretty much a mess league-wide with its lack of anything approaching superstar talent. That doesn't make Ray's career path any less disappointing. Weston Wilson's box score line sure is pretty. Wilson finally earns minor league free agency after this season if he is not added to the 40-man roster sometime in 2022. Wilson matches up nearly exactly with the responsibilities and talents of the Crew's Mike Brosseau, and hopefully he gets his chance in that role at the MLB level by next spring if not sooner. Yay for David Dahl heating up. As for a "missing" player like Sounds OF Jonathan Davis, who played a prominent role to begin the season but last saw action on Saturday the 9th - by no means am I saying this is what it is, but it would be surprising if we were notified every time a minor leaguer was impacted by Covid protocol, and I don't believe I've read anywhere how the MiLB testing precautions now compare to MLB's. Just keep that in mind but don't make formal assumptions. *** Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Mississippi (Braves) 4, Biloxi 0, game called with one out in the top of the 6th in this home game Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please review: M-Braves Hand Shuckers First Loss Of Season In Rain-Shortened Game - Biloxi’s Perfect Start To Year Ends In Five-Inning Contest Crappy way to have the undefeated streak end, but the Shuckers were not doing anything against Stripers' LHP Jared Shuster - this will be one of the more dominant opposition pitching lines we se all season: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 12 K, just 80 pitches. Shuster is a Wake Forest product, but in my world, is better known for being out of New Bedford, MA, the former whaling capital of the world and my hometown. Shuster was taken by Atlanta five picks after Milwaukee drafted OF Garrett Mitchell in the first round of the 2020 draft. Let's see how that all works out when comparing the two careers down the road. For those who are aware of my Brewefan efforts from the start, I apologize for my fandom obsession with 2000-2001 big league Brewers RHP Allen Levrault who was from a neighboring town. If Shuster had been drafted by the Brewers, my fanboy nature on our forums would have to be corralled for sure. RHP Victor Castaneda was solid in his own effort and was still on the mound into the 6th. *** Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes via their all-encompassing Virtual Press Box Final: Beloit (Marlins) 4, Wisconsin 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please review: Sky Carp Rally Late to Beat Wisconsin - Beloit celebrates first win of season with 4-3, walkoff win over Rattlers Years of experience yes, but the venerable Chris Mehring sure is a master of detailing a game's events and timeline. 5 - 2 - 4 - 10 - 4 - 9 - 3 - 2 That's the number of hits the Timber Rattlers have had in their eight games thus far. 14. Nashville saved the organization from a Saturday wipeout, and did so in style. The Shuckers were not singing in the rain as their season-long undefeated streak finally came to an end. 15. Subscribers can go the 01:11:15 hour/minute mark from Sunday evening's Biloxi/Pensacola match up and you'll catch a brief and scary glimpse of that pinky as Noah Campbell beat out an infield single but dove into first base when doing so. Our forum poster ARobsBrewCrew with the injury update - Noah Campbell suffered a compound fracture of his pinky finger (glove hand). Will miss some time but shouldn’t be an extended absence. Campbell was brought up to provide corner infield depth because there's been no word on the status of Ashton McGee's injury upon his awkward dive into home plate on Friday night, video of which was provided in that night's report. Thomas Dillard entered the game Sunday to replace Campbell at first base while Cam Devanney was the starting third baseman in the contest. Now let's "dive" into Sunday's game action - be safe, guys. Transactions: None for Sunday as we await any moves regarding McGee/Campbell. Subscribers to The Athletic will see that Brewers beat writer Will Sammon did follow-up on my ask for an Alec Bettinger update. First of all, please find a way to take advantage of the many subscription offers The Athletic provides, if nothing else, for Will's tremendous work. We won't post Will's full paragraph on the situation, but hopefully we can at least refer to this brief note - "the expectation is (Bettinger) will join the (Nashville) rotation by the end of the month. He’s healthy." *** Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 4, Durham (Rays) 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, please review: Seventh Inning Rally Pushes Sounds Past Durham - Turang Hits Go-Ahead Double in Nashville’s 4-3 Series Finale Win We wouldn't worry about a three-inning, 65-pitch outing for LHP Ethan Small, there are lots of pitchers on this staff who need work - 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K. Small's not always going to be pitch-efficient. RHP Luke Barker to the rescue again, stranding LHP Angel Perdomo's three walks. Heck, in a combined 1.2 IP within the 4th and 5th frames, RHP J.C. Mejia and Perdomo walked six and thanks to Barker, only one run scored. Speaking of Perdomo's. RHP Luis Perdomo struck out the side in order to end things. We swear that the out-of-left-field big league acquisition of RHP Jose Urena while leaving Luis Perdomo in AAA will be having us all question our "In Stearns We Trust" mantras soon. OF Garrett Whitley, DH'ing here, was on base three times, and had one of the three Sounds stolen bases (no caught stealing). Here's Adam McCalvy with brief notes on Brice Turang's CF debut. Quick hits: Is MLB still going with a small Covid taxi squad for road games? Otherwise, whither Pablo Reyes? So where will the Brewers' AAA club be a few years from now? Here's ESPN's Buster Olney: So I own the family farm or part of the family farm that I grew up on. I would bet the family farm that within 10 years you will have Major League Baseball being played in Nashville. It’s the site that everybody talks about I think more than others that are going to be considered, whether it’s Portland or whether it’s Charlotte. The fact that the Titans have had so much success, the Predators have had so much success that when people talk about atmosphere in an arena, they always refer to the Predators. I know Major League Baseball officials who’ve gone to Nashville to go watch those games because of what they hear. Major League Baseball has two franchises that are very troubled with their ballpark situations the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics. Now that this next labor deal has been signed, their ballpark situations are next on the docket. Once baseball gets that resolved, I have no doubt that the owners will say, OK, we’re going to be ready for two expansion teams. And I would bet the family farm that the Nashville will get one of those two teams. *** Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 3, Pensacola (Marlins) 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please review: Shuckers' Pitching Fuels Opening Weekend Series - RHP Tyler Herb Stars in Bullpen Appearance On an otherwise drab day at the plate for the boys (0-for-5, 4 K's for Garrett Mitchell), CF Joey Wiemer - yes, it's CF day here at the Report - was 3-for-3 with a walk and is well on his way to being a national treasure.
