  1. I have one about 4 blocks away and probably haven't been there in 3 years. The food is really greasy, though the Chili Frito Pie is good. My girlfriend is a big fan of Cherry Limeade at happy hour. I'm assuming they'll have a dining room like a few down here have, as WI winters are not real conducive to drive-in joints.
  2. Great low-risk/high reward acquisition for NY. In a platoon and bench bat role, he could be a heckuva bargain at pro-rated league minimum. If Prince had injury issues I'd have been pumped if we landed him.
  3. Graeme Llloyd and Geoff Kellogg. Booyah.
  4. Suddenly, everyone in Chicago "always liked Miller lite and never said it's for redneck slobs. No, I did, shut yer fricken face Bruno! I'm gonna come over there and beat ya like a sissy!"
  5. I'd be holding out for an announcement on the scoreboard that shows my picture with the caption "Handsome B. Wonderful". If it's a big time homer, I'd hold out for lunch with Uecker.
  6. Sergeant O'Leary is walkin' the beat At night he becomes a bartender He works at Mister Cacciatore's down On Sullivan Street Across from the medical center Yeah and he's tradin' in his Chevy for a Cadillacacacacacacacac You oughta know by now And if he can't drive With a broken back At least he can polish the fenders And It seems such a waste of time If that's what it's all about Mama, If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out. Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm
  7. Do you think he's a better hitter than Brooks Kieschnick? That's a blasphemous question. But seriously, Kiesch had a career .759 OPS, which isn't good for an OF, but over a hundred points higher than Mike Hampton and above Dontrelle Willis, Zambrano, Bob Gibson and Warren Spahn. It'd put him at #4 in SI's best hitting pitchers of all time. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/05/29/torre.hittingpitchers/index.html
  8. Lots of things go unnoticed if you're getting 6.8 runs a game like Parra is. His ERA isn't that much lower than McClung's, and yet Manny is mentioned right along with Sheets and CC by many. Seth would have 10 wins if they score 7 runs a game for him too. After a shaky start, Manny's had a really good stretch, as he had a 2.59 ERA in June and is at 2.70 in July. Over the same span, McClung is 3.68 and 3.86. I just wish Manny could go 6+ with some predictability.
  9. I doubt he's ever used except in an extra-innings game where we've simply burned through the whole bench. CC is way too valuable to the team to have them take any extra risks with him.
  10. Sure, a streak of bad luck could end against the Brewers. What I'm asking is whether a pitcher with a high ERA over the course of a whole season or career actually allows fewer runs versus the Brewers, as that's the perception (e.g. a guy like Glendon Rusch, who always sucks, will do better against the Brewers).
  11. What is overlooked is that Hall can hit righthanders as well as lefthanders with power, run the basepaths well, and field the position well. Branyan is a bench player who can spot start at third. It pains me to see him start regularly. It will cost us games. Branyan holds a career .078 edge in OPS against RHP. That's not a tiny difference. This year especially, Hall has been killed by RHP's to the tune of a .535 OPS in 190 PA while Branyan has killed righties. I am not arguing numbers, I am arguing what I see when I watch the games. Those numbers actually come from real games, not Narnia.
  12. My prediction is that if Bonds comes back this year it will be a result of Texas trading Bradley for prospects and then signing him for a cheap deal. I think the ideal team for him is a team in need of a DH with a very shaky chance of making the playoffs that will make them less averse to rolling the dice.
  13. but I'd be surprised if he has more than 162 games at third. 156, second in games played to SS. He never played 3B in the minors. And Mr. Thecrew07, it ain't flawed logic. IF, you were doing what he said Taking one AB from a game from a player on a hot streak (aided greatly by facing many LHP in the last 10 days) and claiming it to definitive proof of as why any player is better than another is flawed logic at best. then it is. 1 AB is always meaningless, no matter how great or awful, as even Randy Johnson has produced an amazing AB in the last 36 hours. If people seem to have a short fuse in these discussions, a historical perspective will explain it. Branyan debates tend to turn into painful lobbing of anecdotal evidence, small samples, and appeals to intangibles and front office decisions. I struggle with the concept of "complete hitter" as it seems to be used as a magic label by people who promulgate the superiority of one player over another when there's an absence of real proof. It's like saying a guy's grit and hustle make him better than the numbers suggest. These data (stats) come from actual in-game performances, so it's hard to say the intangibles make a difference in areas that can be quantified and display contrary data. Studies have been done with look at the relative run production of different AB outcomes, but still it will be argued that this is hooey.
  14. If this has been looked at before, I apologize for wasting time. It often seems to be completely accepted as fact that recent Brewers teams have been killed by awful pitchers. I personally don't have the know-how or premium site membership to assess the validity of this notion, but I figure someone's gotta. So here's the challenge to the statheads: give us a breakdown of how the Brewers have fared over the last X years vs. SP's (or pitchers in general) with ERA's within certain ranges. Do we really score less than the opposing pitcher's ERA when it's 5+ and above ERA when it's 3 or less?
  15. If you think they're gonna be really ticked if you don't, then you should ask. If you have a good relationship with them now, there's no reason to screw it up by not engaging in a mildly-aggravating and annoying obsolete custom. When I was married for the first time, I asked her dad because we got along really well and I just had the feeling he'd be grumpy if we didn't have that talk. I'll get out of it if I marry the current ladyfriend since her parents speak no English.
  16. I hope Ned's looking up splits and situational stats during the game with that baby.
  17. Under across the board, which makes me really depressed, as I've been about as excited as anyone about the guy since the day we drafted him.
  18. Any time a player is happy at all about a trade, he'll talk about how great the new team and city are. It's posturing and salesmanship. "See, potential buyers, I'm a happy affable guy who rolls with the punches and isn't afraid to go to a new place. I'm a great guy, and a great pitcher, so I think your piles of cash would look great in my bank account".
  19. Great news, but not for this season (I hope). The fact that he's potentially going to be able to pitch by the end of the season will hopefully mean he can resume regular offseason workouts and come in throwing smoke when pitchers and catchers report. I'm OK with trading the future in Laporta+ for Sabathia, but I'd like to not see a potential ace starter ruined to potentially increase our chances by half a percent. Unless the team doctors say he's totally ready to go, which is unlikely, I think it's best we resign ourselves to wait a while and resume marveling in his glory for the next five years.
  20. Their launch boxes sucked because they wanted to beat Sony to market and get in before the first holiday season. The new ones are much more reliable but no piece of electronic hardware is going to have a 0% failure rate. Sure, 0% is impossible, but we're looking at 7 busted machines in this thread. How many 360 owners/regular posters do we have here? A very liberal estimate may be what, 350? So if every one of those members with a busted system has already chimed in, that'd mean that at least 1 in 50 (2%) have busted. I know several people who are on their 3rd machine, which should be an extreme rarity. From Wikipedia, so you know it's legit in February 2008 an examination of 1040 Xbox 360s by SquareTrade found a 16.4% failure rate; 171 were returned under warranty as "disabled", 60% of which with general hardware failure, with other sites even claiming 30% failure rates, and 10% on even the more recent models.
  21. It still blows my mind that a company with the resources of Microsoft, in a very competitive market (unlike windows and office) just CANNOT get it right. Seriously, they're several years into this thing and still have units that die on the first day? That's just pathetic. Yugo had a better record than that.
  22. I use a Dentek mouthguard for grinding while I sleep. I got it at Target for like $18.
  23. Since Mota has 5+ years in the league, he can just refuse assignment, be released, and get paid to sit home if nobody claims or trades for him.
  24. Mota tips almost every pitch. I've been noticing this pattern all season, the problem is that he's going into the windup and throwing the ball. Based on history, advanced scouting, and video analysis, hitters have learned that this movement clearly indicates "this pitch is gonna suck".
  25. The big thing is the long term value of the team. If you have a winner with a packed stadium, your team is worth a heck of a lot more than a crap team you could buy from a used car salesman that had a nice stadium and good farm system as its only redeeming qualities.
