  1. Sony announced earlier this summer (E3?) that this September-ish they would be releasing an 80gig unit for $399 which would basically be identical to the current 40gb unit except storage capacity would be doubled to 80gb. However, I can't find anything specific on the date, though I didn't look too hard. No shipping should never be refunded if that is what you are asking. I was talking about getting a refund for the purchase vs. an exchange. I'm hoping they'll take care of shipping for an exchange since they sent me a bricked console, as the "contract" we have is that I pay $27 for them to ship the functioning PS3 described in the auction - that's not what they shipped. Their return policy only states that shipping will not be refunded if the return is not authorized (you didn't submit the return form within 7 days) or on an "as advertised item", so I think I'll get it back.
  2. Resurrecting an ancient thread. I just bought a PS3 on Ebay and guess what? Yup, broken: DOA - the Blu-Ray drive to be exact. So I'm returning it, and the company may give me an exchange or may just refund my money, which could suck big-time as I'm sure I'll then be out like $50 combined in shipping costs. This rambling leads me to a question for our game nerds. Should the money be refunded, I may wait for the new cheaper 80gb unit. I gather this will happen in September, but does anyone know an exact date or if September of this year is at least set in stone for the $399 80gb console?
  3. My bathroom, about 20 minutes ago. I have no idea what I did/ate to deserve that. Second is my work uniform from Fazoli's. The combination of alfredo and tomato sauce topped off with a ton of garlic butter is a smell one will never be able to erase from their memory. Some 11 years later I remember the stench vividly, as well as the attempts I made to remove the odor from the TWO work shirts I was given (only got new ones every 6 months or so).
  4. I think the main goal is to create a visual reminder that there's a discussion at a related site, so don't start a thread here. Our newer members, or those who aren't here much, may not know that football talk is restricted to that forum.
  5. Ned's gritty. He doesn't shoot deer, he steals second on them and shows them that he has more dirt on his uni than they do on their hide. They die in shame.
  6. Brooke Hogan The real reason a man would want to marry her is so he can convince her to yell everything at him, finish all sentences with "brother" and threaten to beat him before bed unless he says his prayers and takes his vitamins. That, and the tender act of seduction that comes with someone literally ripping their shirt off, throwing it to the ground, and placing a cupped hand to their ear to listen to the applause. Life would be hilarious.
  7. If we could find someone desperate enough for a SS to give up a quality starter for JJ, I'll gladly take chances with Escobar. Our offense will still be pretty decent with the core we have now, but getting another front of the rotation starter keeps us in better position to make the playoffs, IMO.
  8. The Micelli quandary is actually pretty simple. In the plot, Micelli was a former up-and-coming second baseman who spent a little time in the bigs before being forced to retire because of an injury. That would lead us to conclude he never made it past his first three years, and was thus paid the league minimum. As the show started in 1984, he obviously played in the late-70's or early-80's. In 1975, the league minimum in MLB was $16,000, and it only rose to $30,000 by 1980. If Tony played a half season in 1980, he made $15,000. Thus, he was nowhere near too well-off to become a housekeeper. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/charts/salary/major_league_salaries.shtml
  9. Braun doesn't look anywhere close to a GG contender, but he also looks nothing like a hack. I'll gladly take that and send it back in time to ease my fears last winter.
  10. You have more time to do sit-ups and pick out new Oakleys, so that when you do score a babe, it's gonna be a smokin' hot one.
  11. Washburn, if he carries all of his salary, is worth a Crudale, that's about it. I can't see anyone foolish enough to give up more when you could give up talent and get a similar pitcher for several million less.
  12. Tell them there's a gravel pit full of Old Style on the corner of town.
  13. So does that mean Gamel and Escobar have no value, because they haven't been traded yet? You'd have to concede there that Gwynn will be 26 in a few months and is putting up a sub-.700 OPS in the minors. There's a difference between guys you know a team wants to hold onto for the future and a guy that makes you wonder who the heck would give up anything worthwhile for him. Melvin and co can't honestly be looking at his performance and thinking this is a guy with more than an outside shot of contributing in the bigs. But yes, the Brewers seem to greatly overvalue Gwynn.
  14. Mention sit-ups and you might as well wear Zubaz to the date. What's your point?
  15. This is professional sports, do what you can within the rules to win. I've never had any disdain for "running up the score" and such, because the other team is being paid millions of dollars to compete at the highest level. If they can't hang, boo-hoo. Now, in the amateur ranks, it's a little different as you don't want to go out of your way to embarrass a bunch of kids, but go right ahead and embarrass a guy like Jeff Suppan, as he's allegedly a major league pitcher.
  16. DEFINITELY lie about the number of sit-ups you can do. Babes may like good hygiene, but they love sit-ups.
  17. TX is a mess and never seems to have a coherent game plan and accurate assessment of where they stand. "We're rebuil----wait we're gonna try to contend, nope we're actually building for the future, but maybe we'll take a shot". D/FW fans and media are darn fickle, and it seems the team cares too much about this and doesn't do what's in their best long-term interest.
  18. With Gagne's struggle this season and injury history, the only way I see him turning down arby for more elsewhere is if he literally reverts to top form and doesn't allow a run for the rest of the year. His current path suggests a one year reclamation deal worth less than 3 million. No way he turns down $8M for that, the dude is washed up, but man how sweet would it be if he weren't and ended up a type A? 6 comp picks off type A's would be a tremendous boost to the farm system.
  19. And I am REALLY hoping the Yankees don't make the playoffs, so I won't have to hear about "one more game at Yankee Stadium" or how "this might be the last game at Yankee Stadium" for half the fricking series. No crap, that would be really annoying. I'm already sick of hearing about that romanticized junk heap this season. There's a reason they're replacing it. I can relate to fans of a team being torn on the construction of a new stadium, but acting like the building itself somehow has magical powers and perseverating on that notion gets old.
  20. I just don't get this mentality. I know these guys have advanced to a level where they have proven themselves to some extent, but we will be receiving two HIGH draft picks when CC leaves in FA next year I guess I'm very much the one in the hand is worth two in the bush type. There's a very real chance both of the players drafted are big flops or just marginal players.
  21. People who pronounce Italian "eye-talian" When I worked at Papa John's we had tons of old people ordering thin crust eye-talian sausage pizzas. It irked me. What's the opposite of endorphins? GABA's a good one. Ikea is what's bugging me right now. I spent a good part of the day there today, and it'll be the last time. Being herded like livestock through a place that doesn't have nearly enough staff and sells cheap junk that barely fits together is not worth the money you save by going there over Rooms To Go or a similar furniture place. I'm done with you, Ikea, and your cafeteria meatballs too.
  22. I'd really like to see the top players on those lists make some outlandish statements about having their hearts set on "finding themselves" during a 3-year hike in Tibet or wanting to retire from baseball to work on a bison ranch. They need to scare Cleveland off. I'll be able to live with giving up one future star for a half season of CC, but if it turns out that we gave up more than one good MLB career going to Cleveland I'll be really peeved unless we win the world series this year.
  23. One thing to remember is that with Yo coming back, we may have a rotation next year that's only a little worse than before the CC trade (Yo may only be a small step down from Sheets), and that's still solid. One trade for even a middle of the rotation guy could still keep us firmly in the division race next year.
