  1. I'm gonna guess snake oil. Now, it's quite possible that someone who has experienced these things essentially re-creates them covertly and the partial stimulation elicits something similar to the original response. Think of the greatest experience in your life and the partial stimulation may evoke the by-product we'd call happiness. Our understanding of the brain is just nowhere near close to being able to so easily manipulate complex sensations, let alone those of very specific drugs. I mean, we can't even create the brown noise, and the bowels are much simpler than the brain while pooping is much simpler than the complex neural activity involved in the reaction to peyote.
  2. No word yet on backwards compatability (although I wouldn't expect any, to be completely honest). I'm pretty sure they slyly implied that here: The 160GB PS3 has all of the same functionality as the new 80GB PS3 that's popping up on retailer shelves now, but obviously has twice the HDD space,
  3. I've been stuck watching more of the olympics than I had planned because the girlfriend loves it. I've actually found myself enjoying some of it. Watching Phelps of Bolt just smoke the field and think "that guy's #2 in the world and got dominated" is pretty crazy. It's like Tyson in his prime - an individual competitor who makes the rest of the world's best look like hacks.
  4. This is why contenders trade for the Ray Durhams of the world. If this costs him considerable time, we don't suffer much in the standings and still have a 3B/SS backup in Counsell if disaster strikes.
  5. Count me as one who wants MORE sponsorships, and not because the team gets more revenue. Rather, it sucks when a team has like 3 sponsors because EVERY commercial opportunity will be a broken record. If they have 20 sponsors each has less of an opportunity to make you sick and angry.
  6. Bumping to add a sweet deal and answer my own question. You can pre-order the new 80gb version of the PS3 core system for $399 at Sony Style. It says it'll be there around Sept 1. The cool part is that you can add the PS3 to checkout and they'll give you the option to apply for their credit card with instant approval. You can then use the card to buy the PS3 and they'll give you a $150 credit - so the system, is $249. LINK
  7. As a 6-year veteran of the delivery industry from high school through finishing my bachelor's, I always use a base tip of $3 and go up according to A) how far away am I? B) is the weather bad? and C) how demanding was I (specific time, call ahead so I can meet you at the door, etc). I've always wondered, with all of our information on your restaurant computer, do you have a little comments section like the doctors did for Elaine on Seinfeld? Drivers come back and enter a note, "poor tip again" or am I just crazy? I entered stuff like that all the time. "Tips huge, give him a deal", "guaranteed stiff", etc. People who've been there a while remember every customer who orders regularly, and WILL prioritize orders and service according to how well you tip. I had a guy who gave at least $5 every time. When his order went out with 2 others, guess which was my first stop?
  8. The Chinese age scandal seems really weird to me. I mean, how often in sports do you see complaints that it's unfair that the other team gained an edge by cheating to use children on their team?
  9. I guess if they had their hearts set on not offering arbitration, and they HAD to trade him to AZ because that's who claimed him, this isn't awful as they got "something" in return on a player they'd lose following a dead-end season. Still, why not trade him 2 weeks ago for better players?
  10. Eau Claire Regis Ramblers. Class of 1999. http://www.case.k12.wi.us/ramblerfootball/images/ECR.JPG
  11. 1. Yes, but it ties in to #2 - you can only pay up to the slot value of your upcoming draft picks, and you forfeit the corresponding pick. 2. Love it. Having suffered through Selig-Bando nonsense, I want crappy teams to get better. 3. Yeah,, realign, and then spread interleague evenly throughout the year instead of making an event of it - it's not special anymore. 4. I like the current system. 5. Dump the DH. I've never been a fan of having an extra player who can't manage to play defense. That, and it allows wealthy teams to horde an extra 1B they otherwise wouldn't have roster space for.
  12. Nueske's landjaeger is the greatest.
  13. The nation of Japan actually owes us Darvish as reparations for Takahito Nomura.
  14. I've never understood waiver-wire deals like this... can anyone explain it to me? (and you may have to talk like you are talking to a 6 year old... cause I'm not that smart) ... how does this deal get done after the trade deadline? And what is the trade deadline for then? How it works is that after July 31st, trades are restricted to players who are put on waivers. Before that, you can trade anyone except guys with no-trade rights in their contract or enough service time under league rules to block a trade. Once the deadline passes on July 31st, you can trade a player to anyone if he is placed on waivers and nobody claims him. If a team does claim him, you either must A) revoke the waiver (you keep the player), B) let that team have him for free, or C) trade him to THAT team.
  15. I cant help but think he is black listed. Functionally, yeah he's blacklisted, but I don't think it was a collaborative or calculated method. Rather, a bunch of individual teams all deciding they wouldn't touch the guy. He's just not worth it anymore unless you're starving for a DH.
  16. The Ham Fighters already have 4 foreign players, and would have to get rid of both foreign position players and one pitcher to be able to add three new foreigners.
  17. I've looked a lot into this, and as far as I can tell, September callups absolutely start accruing MLB service days. I think you're right on this. I guess I've heard enough times that "it doesn't matter and won't make a difference" that I thought the time didn't apply at all. If a player were called up in all three option years, he'd have 3 months of service time that may begin to make a difference (i.e. super two). Still, you have to be in the top 17% of players with 2>3 years to be super two. I'd guess that all of the Summer callups would beat out everyone called up in September a couple times.
  18. Dumb question here, but if we call up Escobar or Gamel does that start their arby clock faster? I know in the past Weeks was called up in September, but I thought that was because he already had a 'major league' contract. Sorry to take the thread off-topic, but I'm curious as to how this works. Arbitration clocks don't start but you have to A) have added them to the 40-man roster b) paid them major league minimum while they're here. In Weeks' case, he was brought up because that major league contract meant he already had to be added to the 40-man and begun using options.
  19. Dude, that was freakin awesome! I can't believe how many Jager bombs we just did man. I'm all like (insert sound of revving engine), and I told you that chick wanted you!
  20. The pneumonia may have been complicated by his other lung problems, though his publicist says they're unrelated. From Yahoo Mac suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease
  21. I watch the opening ceremonies and will stop flipping if Boxing, baseball, or basketball are on. Other than that, I'd rather rent a movie.
  22. I saw online that the arcade version of the 360 will drop to $199.99. An employee of a retail store looked into their computer and took a picture of the future price and posted the pic online.
  23. Spread Eagle I remember seeing that town on a state map when I was like 13 and acting exactly how you'd expect a 13 year-old to react.
  24. "Jangle Leg, Jangle Leg"
  25. Tijuana, and no, that's not supposed to be in blue.
