  1. That park is freakin' awesome. Probably my favorite stadium ever. I liked sitting down the 3rd baseline so I had the ocean in my view. Yep, Fisherman's Wharf sucks. I don't see what the tourist draw is, as that was boring and stupid. Chinatown was much more entertaining and Gobias is right about Muir.
  2. Dunno... the Grease soundtrack might be worse. Might be? abercrombie girls by EFO Ugg, EFO was one of the worst things that ever happened. I don't see the allure of girls kissing each other that makes dudes freak out. It means one of two things: A) she's a lesbian and not interested in me, or B) she's attention-starved and likes to create a scene so I'm not interested in her.
  3. While I almost universally cheer for the American in international competition, Kobayashi is awesome and I consider him the Tiger Woods of professional eating, as he brought a ton of attention to it and dominated. I was definitely pulling for him to reclaim the throne yesterday.
  4. All he really needed to do was bring some ribs with him. Who's gonna call the cops on you after you give them free ribs? I know I wouldn't. If a dude broke into my house and had some ribs, I'd just be like "dude thanks for the ribs man, you seem like a solid dude".
  5. There's no way a guy like that goes for Madonna. She's a crazy old hag who was never that hot to begin with. A-Rod gets to choose from the Type A free agent list, it'd be foolish for him to sign a reclamation project.

  7. The get like $5m in salary relief plus $1-2m in draft bonues they don't have to pay. $6-7m isn't chump change. That's always important and seemingly overlooked. If you get a top prospect who'd cost $3MM as a signing bonus, you didn't just get the player, you also saved that $3MM. That's also a cost a team has to factor in when trading prospects. Not only is this a good young player who will be cheap for his first 6 years, but you also have the cost of a mansion invested in him.
  8. Managers are hard to evaluate. Obviously, W/L doesn't tell the whole story, as I could have led the best teams in history to a playoff berth while a legendary manager could not have gotten the 02 Brewers above .500. Looking at aggregate production above and beyond PECOTA or other such projections may be a decent place to start, but it all takes in past performance under (typically) the same manager. It's easier to judge at the beginning of a manager's tenure when the team is stable from before the change, but it's hard to say what effect he's having in the middle of an unbroken data path. It all comes down, IMO, to a series of decisions and matchups. Did he start the wrong platoon member often? Did he trot a guy out for the 7th who's proven many times to flop after 6th even though he has a good bullpen? Did he ride out a crappy regular when a (AAA) proven young player rotted on the bench? Did he bunt or call for shifts that the data show to be counterproductive?
  9. Or the club team at Marquette or Madison or Eau Claire. (anybody know anything about club teams) Eau Claire has the Cavaliers and the Express. Not sure about club teams, though.
  10. The local radio guys are all about seeing Padilla shipped out. He's a mediocre pitcher set to make a bit of cash next year.
  11. Lou Palsmo - a great all around catcher with speed this guy is a gonna be the future hopefullly. or Keith Ginter
  12. Coors has other brands, too. Blue Moon on tap would be nice. Yeah, Blue Moon is surprisingly good coming from that company. Maybe they should just sell Keystone and rid MP of bitter beer face.
  13. Once removed, it has to be removed permanently. DO NOT give in to a tantrum because you had a rough day or there's another reason you don't want to deal with the fit. If a child gets a highly-desired item once every 10 times (on average) he tantrums, it becomes like a slot machine, where any fit could produced his beloved Nuk, and he'll tantrum constantly. Tantrums and other problem behavior will quickly extinguish when they don't produce the Nuk. Similarly, don't attend to the tantrum or console the child when he's throwing a fit - he'll learn to put on an act when he wants attention. You absolutely need to provide other preferred items (juice, tickling, playing, praise, praise, praise) initially when the child is being good and not demanding the Nuk at times he'd usually get it, and then gradually fade out the rewards for going Nuk-less. When telling the child he can't have the Nuk, be very matter of fact, don't bargain with him, and don't give in to yelling. Simply state something about how he can't have the Nuk anymore and provide a reason he'll relate to ("big boys don't need those" or something to that effect usually works).
  14. I went from the worst job in the world 2 weeks ago to an incredible one last week. It's been a great 9 days.
  15. 6 White Castles, sack of fries, large Vault. Grilled hot dogs and Fresca
  16. In general, it can be a difficult issue to make objective rules for, as you could say a poster shouldn't post more than twice in a row, but what if a day went by and they're now updating? Sometimes even posting twice in a row is annoying clutter if neither post is of real substance or should clearly have been a single post. A rule would have to be a series of conditional statements, which makes it hard. The best approach for now, until a sound rule can be formulated, is to ask "does this add anything beyond my previous post and is it a new idea which couldn't be fluidly added via edit to the previous post?"
  17. Say a leadoff type guy has a .400-ish OBP, with a .400 slugging %, and his teammate's a cleanup hitter has a .300-ish OBP with a .500 SLG %. I'd take the first player every time all else (defense, baserunning, etc) being equal. Slugging is great, but you don't accomplish anything as a team unless you get on base (other than a few solo homers). Stat heads will tell you every point of OBP is worth far more than a point of SLG.
  18. I like the idea of a 3rd league. The league could start with around 10 team, all of which would have the same status as MLB teams. The only time that MLB teams would play the Asian teams would be during interleague play. This would allow for exposure but not constant travel to Asia the entire year. The NL and AL could take turns going over to play or something like that. Build a stadium in Hawaii and have em meet in between. I do like the idea of adding an additional affiliated league, but it may make the season drag on too long or create longer gaps between games. We are talking about a 14 hour time difference here, and that's a pretty big thing. I'd like the idea of a minor league in Asia. You'd need to go to an underdeveloped league (not Japan) and set up 30 minor league teams, each of which are controlled by a major league team. This would provide a pretty good base for scouting operations in Asia as well.
  19. What about trading Fielder for CC? I know it very well might be a stretch and to be honest I'm not 100% sold on it, but it would clearly open up positions for Gamel and LaPorta next year if Fielder is gone and they'll be cheaper options. Just a thought... Unless he signs an extension, that wouldn't work well for us. We'd be giving up a huge part of our offense for a good pitcher, but would the gain from CC offset the loss from Prince? If not, you're trading away several years of production in order to not even get better this year. Paying a big price to get CC for 2 months means you'd better win in those 2 months, which becomes much harder without Prince. Sure Laporta or Gamel could play well, but they aren't advanced enough yet to assure me they wouldn't be a huge step down from Prince.
  20. I am going to pretend Jullian Tavarez never pitched for the Brewers. Me too. I've always hated the guy, and was thus pretty ticked when we signed him. I'd take a guy who I hate but has talent, but Tavarez...
  21. Branyan needs to make the all-star team so we can see him participate in just ONE HR derby.... He'd probably set the record for pitches taken and whiffs as well. It's easy to say that in hindsight. I mean you look at his career numbers and they don't exactly scream 'savior'. But his muscles do. If I ever have grandchildren, I will flat-out fabricate Branyan stories, like the time he played first and third base at the same time in a game where he hit 6 grand slams - each of which broke the seat it hit. I will then hold up a jagged piece of broken plastic and tell the kids I was at the game and that splinter of the seat flew off and stabbed me in the neck, though I couldn't leave and stayed to watch the rest of the game.
  22. Do you know of any restaraunts that are romantic/laid back type places that aren't super expensive? While not romantic (but fairly nice), I really like Ichiban Steakhouse at the end of Nicollet Mall. They have teppanyaki, but it's not good - get the sushi bar. You sit in front of a moat at the bar and the sushi chef sends out sushi which you just grab off boats as they float by. It's all you can eat sushi for $25-30 depending on the time you go, and the sushi is quite good for somewhere not near an ocean.
  23. Are you trying to tell me that it is not hot? Ouch. Makes it seem downright chilly here (though we have hit 100 twice this week and the following temps will be on mostly rainy days). Now 83 Thu 91° Fri 89° Sat 90° Sun 92° Mon 93°
  24. and it immediately cools in his icewater veins. Or the cooling source could be Counsell's icewater veins ultimate grit battle clutch homer last night.
  25. Kaz Matsui ahead of Uggla? Calos Lee 5th amongst OF's? Hunter Pence? Kendall ahead of Martin? Theriot in front of the reigning MVP?
