  1. Hairston needs to be at the top of the Brewers' list of non-marquee players this offseason. Dude has been exactly what the Brewers needed: reasonably-priced, solid glove, versatile, and has given me serious cause for a man crush during the postseason.
  2. Looking for cars on Craigslist is like looking for anything else on Craigslist. There will be scammers, complete weirdos, and driving 30 minutes to find a piece of junk that's nothing like they described or showed in the photos. We drove an hour to look at an Altima based on exterior pictures and they said the car was in good shape - too bad they didn't mention that the interior was absolutely trashed. Then, once in a while, you find a tremendous deal from an honest person, but you have to be very patient. The last 2 cars we bought for my wife were found through Autotrader: one from a private party and the last one from a dealer.
  3. Wow, yeah, Kotsay in CF. I like to think I'm more patient with managers than most, but this is just stupid. Even if he does well tonight, it's still dumb to roll a die rigged against you when you have two normal ones.
  4. Adam Wainwright would've given them an extra 20 wins? That makes them 110-52. If you replaced Westbrook with a good season from Wainwright you get something more like 94-68. Idiot. Also, Budweiser is the worst of the major breweries, and I have agreement from pretty much everyone I know who was born and raised in a "neutral site".
  5. I hate how blown up it is that LaRussa is some expert in "mind games". Everything out of that guy's mouth is the simple-minded blabbering people hate empty suit politicians for.
  6. Brewers in 6. Sweep at home and go 1-2 at St. Louis. I've got a tingly feeling that Marcum comes back strong and makes the difference.
  7. I bet there will be plenty of Brewers fans booing Prince if he signs with the Cubs I would. I don't care if the Cubs or Cardinals offer triple what the Brewers do, I'll still dislike him passionately. He has every right to do what's best for him, but that doesn't mean I'll like him. If he goes to any other team, I will cheer for him just like I did for every other former Brewer.
  8. While I've always been annoyed by the Apple cult, I respected the heck out of Jobs. He pushed the other companies to make products like Apple's, just without requiring iTunes and being overpriced.
  9. Don't feel alone Tristar, she annoys bejeezes out of my wife as well. "Why does that lady move her hair out of the way of her boobs every 10 seconds?".
  10. and play great D and some people wouldn't change their opinion on here because UZR says he doesn't have good range. Even my wife asks me "why's that guy so slow, does he have bad knees or something?" when Yuni just stands there because a ball's hit 5 feet from him. Betancourt basically did his job this series: he didn't really do anything praiseworthy, nor did he completely suck. I don't think anyone who dislikes him being the starting SS has ever indicated that he couldn't be acceptable for 5 games.
  11. While I'll be more upset if we lose to the Cards than if it were the Phillies, that's mostly a result of how I view those two teams. The Phillies are a team I'd expect to beat us in a 7 game series, while I'd expect the Brewers to beat the Cardinals.
  12. I derived a good bit of satisfaction from them beating a ginormous payroll team.
  13. Nothing to Envy - ordinary lives in North Korea Very good book. I'd give a higher recommendation to "Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader". It's super long, but very in-depth and interesting. I'm about to finish "The Idiot" after having finally gotten around to reading "Crime and Punishment" all the way through. When I get back around to North Korea reading, I have "The Cleanest Race" and "The Aquariums of Pyongyang" downloaded and ready to roll.
  14. For me, it's pretty much what others have stated. Yount is THE Brewer to me because of the length of his tenure with just our team - spanning from before my birth to my early teens. He never became anyone we rooted against for any reason. It doesn't matter to me why Molitor left, just that he left and was no longer "our guy" for a decent portion of his career. Hypothetically, imagine that Favre never even mentioned retirement and was just unceremoniously pushed out by Ted Thompson who wanted to go with a younger guy. Even then, if Rodgers goes on to retire a Packer, I'd still end up liking Rodgers more simply because he's our guy and only our guy. I'd like Favre a lot more than I do under the real-world conditions, but the scales would still be tipped toward the guy I never had to cheer against.
  15. If this were the cussing thread at the other board, I would tell you what I really think about 8:37 start times. Really, what percentage of fans will watch all 4 games, necessitating spacing the times out like this? I know that when the Brewers aren't in the playoffs, I pick only one game that I'll watch each day, and I care about baseball more than 90% of the population.
  16. Or had a sense of cultural awareness. That's exactly what makes me wonder if Guillen is really such a coup for Miami. Is a Venezuelan really going to make the Cuban fans fall in love with the team? Cubans in America seem to like other Cubans, but aren't very fond of leftists (which is why they fled Cuba). Guillen is from a country that's currently pretty leftist and friendly with the Castro clan.
  17. I also hate the "well, this is what got us here, so we won't tamper with it" logic. If Bolt qualifies for the Olympics with an ingrown toe nail, it does not mean he shouldn't have a doctor treat it before the event. I've been a big McGehee defender until about the All-Star break of this season, but he's simply been too terrible to justify playing time.
  18. If Betancourt carried the team and we win it all, I'll swallow the pill when they pick up his option and name him starter for next year. What I'd worry about is that he sucks like normal, then has some super-clutch 2 run single that makes sentimental feelings get in the way of a season's worth of data.
  19. Maybe it's like Angels in the Outfield, and sometimes angels come down to earth to make a guy play out of his mind so that a father and son can become closer.

  21. Briggs just toppled the biggest, baddest strawman of them all: the fundamentalist stat cult member who never played baseball, doesn't watch games, and makes definitive statements that no legit SABR expert would ever agree with.

  23. After watching him a couple of times, I'm just glad he was traded to a team I don't hate, or there could've been major salt in a wound in the future. The Jays, OTOH, I feel bad for and actually want to see them do well.
  24. "Cuz she was blinded by the light Wrapped up like a douche in the aroma of the night".
  25. I have this irrational hatred of Bluetooth earpieces and the nimrods who wear them. It's like they are saying "I'm just SO important that I have to be contactable at all times, instantly". And judging by the sweat pants and stained T-shirt, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "errr, no, really you aren't that important". I assure you that your hatred is completely rational.
