It wasn't just last year, he has not been a good LBer in the NFL. They're in a really good place when it comes to the Cap. Love is going to get probably 5/250 added on. Hopefully, they can keep that at ~110 in GTD money...though I doubt it. I think...maybe Tom after that? What's the expression? Keep paying the Zach Tom types, letting the JRJ's walk(17GTD and 3/30 for him?) and the Packers will be in good shape. Still another ~50M in dead cap this year, ~25 next year and...that's the end of the "cap hell," they were in. They don't need to keep drafting like they have the last two years...but it'd sure help!
-
Yes. We have more than enough to sign if there was someone the Packers wanted. They're ~35M after you account for Campbell being cut. They have plenty of money if there was someone they wanted. I also really doubt they frontload Love's extension. There's really no reason to other than to limit what they can do.
-
No, he's talking about the population growth related to job growth. He broke down the growth of immigrants vs new births citing those just born won't be entering the job market. He says right in there, almost all those who immigrated are of working age.
-
That's probably right. He did seem to return the ball when it was kicked deep a lot less. He could have been pressing with the offense playing poorly and him in another FA year and then settled in. The Packers STs penalties didn't help either as he could take it out 5 deep, get it to the 23...not a big deal, but then there was a block in the back that put us at the 13 and that seemed to happen regularly early in the season. I hate gimmicky stuff and maybe that's what the new proposed KO rules are, but they seem really interesting. What is the proposal? The KO team starts at the 40, the return team starts at the 30, there is a ref who raises his hand and the KO team can't go until the ball is touched and the kicker has to get the ball in between the 20 and the endzone. Is that right? I saw it on a short McAfee clip. Didn't make total sense as he was talking about how just a regular kickback would come out to the 35. It also kinda punishes a kicker who can give you a lot of hangtime, but it doesn't sound like it's completely fleshed out yet.

You put almost any Center alone with Kenny Clark, he's gonna have a bad day. And I think you're...overstating the weakness of the OL and ignoring how big of an impact a veteran QB who gets the ball out on time+ play calling factor in. They were elite when Cousins was playing. When you put in bad QBs, they hold the ball and suddenly the OL ranking drops. I've said this with Billy Turner, Rasheed Walker, guys who benefited from Rodgers getting the ball out quickly and then the improvement in the OL play had as much to do with improvement in scheme and Love...IMO.
-
That is surprising, but I don't think it can be attributed to Nixon too much. He took the ball out from 5 yards deep and failed to get back to the 25 a lot. They're average field position after Kick Returns was 23rd. I think him being able to return kicks is more of a bonus than the reason they're paying him OR they think the new rule will go through and then Kick Returns are going to play a MUCH bigger role again. (Just a source for average starting position after KRs as I NEVER remember where I find/see these).

This feels like the opposite of objective concerning Jones. 1-Saying he might as well not have been there in the games he didn't get 10 carries is ignoring quite a bit(though you mention the 86 yards receiving vs. Chicago, including the game-breaking 52-yard TD reception, you still count that as a game that he "might as well not have been there." 2-I was talking about the contract and hard feelings on Jones side being offered...a slightly insulting pay cut and going to the Vikings. After all 3-His Cap hit of 17M is almost irrelevant. ~1/3rd of that is from restructures, voids, and SB. He wasn't being paid 17M next year. The only thing relevant here is money saved vs dead money. Asking him to go from 11M to 4M and why Jones would have turned that down given ALL he did for the Packers. 4-If you're going to go after his season and performance, or perceived lack thereof last year, then...being objective would be doing the same with Jacobs. You said 11 of 17 games early on. It's not. It's 11 of 19 games(and I reject the idea he might as well not have been there for the other 5). BUT, just going on his 2023 performance. He was 8th in expected yards per carry added among all NFL backs. Jacobs was near the bottom(6th worst). That accounts for a poor passing game, OL, etc...and that's per Next Gen stats. Then there are the intangibles. Jones loyalty to the Packers. What did Jordan Love say the key to beating the Cowboys was? Aaron Jones going off-script, helping chip on Parsons to give Love time to throw. Jayden Reed talking about how the receivers block harder for #33. Also, in this down year for Jones where he may as well have not been there 11 of the 17(but really 19) games, he still out-paced Jacobs in yards and he averaged 4.9 YPC. That's what Jacobs averaged in his HUGE breakout season in 2022. Finally, Jones is 7th all-time in yards per carry at just over 5 yards per carry....that's in the HISTORY of the NFL. I like Josh Jacobs...and the fact that they can go year to year with Jacobs, but the way you're downplaying Aaron Jones career in Green Bay? It's a bit insulting. His lack of back-to-back 100-yard games? How many times have we complained the Jones running well and not getting the ball? Also...Jacobs has done it 3 times for a total of 8 games. Jones did it 6 straight last year, including two of the best defenses in the league in the playoffs in what SHOULD have been at least an NFCCG run. As for him not having a 100-yard game in the playoffs. 99 as you said, 170 yards vs the 49ers when they lost 13-10. In total, in 5 of the last 6 playoff games, he's had 100 yards from scrimmage. That's pretty productive. This is what Jacobs did last year. So objectively they are giving up more money for a worse back for the 2024 season. When you factor in age, it's probably a risk worth taking, but if I'm Aaron Jones, I've done more than enough to be expected to get my Base cut by nearly 66%. I trust the Packers...but while you talk about Jones worst year of his career, this was Jacobs last year. Worse than Jones in every regard. So objectively speaking...it's pretty easy to see things from Jones perspective and why he felt like he was worth yet another pay cut. Jones also had a success rate on 62% of his carries despite what was a VERY poor OL early on. Jacobs 57.4...in his best year, just under 46% last year. I

Brewers Still In the Market For Rotation Depth?

Fine...then let's just stop bringing up the one case and we can move on. And I agree...Bauer's not without blame. -
If I'm Jones...I'm pretty pissed to be honest. We should try and look at this subjectively. 1-Jones takes less from Packers to stay here. 2-The Packers, in a year they're up against the cap and rebuilding, he takes a significant pay cut. 3-Following a 6 game stretch that had them arguably the hottest team in the NFL...led in large part by his play and coming into an off-season in which the Packers DO have cap space, they ask him to take another 6M pay cut? And then they sign a player who didn't perform as well as he did last year? None of this is to suggest that the Packers didn't make the right decision...that they shouldn't have signed Jacobs and moved on from Jones(I'm a little torn). Just that it's not hard to see Jones side of it. If I'm there when he comes back to have his # honored, I'll be there cheering. This doesn't diminish what he did(not the case for all those who donned the Vikings Purple).

To be honest, I don't really like Bauer myself. I hate groupthink and false accusations...even against people I dislike much more though. And righteous indignation that goes with it. -

LOL...sure. You just totally undermine sexual assault by dismissing the Police investigation, the DA's decision to not pursue it. the, her own overt plan to extort him going into it(and then doing EXACTLY what she said), and then digging in and refusing to change your opinions irrespective of the facts. That you are so convinced I'm a Bauer "fanboi," is telling. The FACTS all came out. All you're doing is undermining actual rape victims by refusing to look at new information and change your opinions. Her little giggling video the morning after the encounter? "Next victim, star pitcher LA Dodgers." How you gonna secure that bag? Well...she got the 300K for it. Not the bag she wanted...but more than she deserved. Imagine talking with numerous people about how you were going to "steal" someone's money, doing that very thing...and you apparently don't care? Just wanna pretend that part didn't happen? Stay blissfully ignorant because Bauer's not a likable person? I can't IMAGINE what you'd say about Brian Banks, Cephus for the Central Park 5(are they still guilty to you as well..). -
Not at all. Especially given Jacobs deal. I wouldn't be surprised if they use a 2nd on Brooks from Texas. They can move on from Jacobs pretty easily(assuming it is true all he was GTD was 12.5). Brooks gets to heal, get some snaps this year and then he looks like he could be a #1 back. I wonder if the Packers would have offered Jones 6M and 2M in incentives if he would have come back? OR...maybe Jones felt like he was owed my by the Packers. He turned down a bigger deal from Miami to stay in GB, he took a pay cut last year due to their cap situation. Maybe he just felt like he'd sacrificed enough, the window to make money as a RB in short and he wasn't going to take another pay cut? I'd understand that side of it. I'll also be curious to see if the Packers even considered bringing Bakh back with a massive restructure and most of the base pushed to incentives.
-
I'd hope so...I wonder if they'd pay him 3./18 to play a new position(well see what the GTD money is). He's just really limited playing the slot. He's a really good athlete, just tight. Doesn't have the fluidity to cover smaller quicker WRs. He does have the ball-tracking skills and I believe the tackling skills to play safety...and the Packers need both depth there, and they also need their safeties to be able to play both in the box, the slot and CF. Nixon could do that. Still hoping for one more FA signing. Fuller, Whitehead...whoever...
-
That OL is...pretty solid. RT they're about the same as the Packers(though I think Tom is still ascending). LT they're much better. They've got one of the best young LTs in the game. Bradburry is a solid Center. Not that I think it matters or makes the Vikings any type of threat... I'm actually curious what they could get for Jefferson. I think it'd be 2 1sts. Probably better if they sign him for a record setting contract instead.

Brewers Still In the Market For Rotation Depth?
BrewerFan replied to wiguy94's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
@wiguy94You care to share what FACTS you disagree with? Are you saying Bauer DID pay her? He did settle? That he ran to pay her? Or is this more a "Bauer=bad don't like," and kinda ignoring the facts? After the discovery process of the civil case(ie, when her text messages and the video of her giggling while laying next to him after the event) were shared, HER team approached Bauer's about a settlement wherein no money changed hands(contrary to the previous posts)? Any of this factually incorrect? -

To be clear, you're NOT talking about this particular case, right? The Lindsey Hill case? You'd again just be wrong. Her side wanted to settle once they had to turn over the metadata from the phone and there was a lengthy record of her literally planning this out(and it went nearly according to plan). She came to HIM to settle, he didn't pay her a dime(you've gotten this one wrong a couple times). And she was investigated by the Police for filing false charges...charges they ultimately didn't pursue. But man, please tell me how I need to read the details of "the case" more. -
Brewers Still In the Market For Rotation Depth?
BrewerFan replied to wiguy94's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
LOL...no, not true. He did not settle a thing. He actually countersued. Once her records became available, then SHE settled. Wrong. The Pasadena Police investigated Trevor Bauer and clear Trevor Bauer of all wrong doing. Pretty important distinction. Yeah...it's pretty disgusting. She also VERY clearly asks him to do so. They both seem a little off, but I'm not judging rough sex. The issue HERE is more than she explicitly targeted him and stated HOW she was going to get his money. I get you probably saw this when it came out and then assumed Bauer was guilty...that's fine. I made the same assumption. The problem is the preponderance of available evidence now and you're STILL doubling down on this being a sexual assault. Yes. Very clearly. You can read HER words. "Next victim, start pitcher of the LA Dodgers. Net worth 51M." "How you gonna secure that bag?" "By having Daddy choke me out." So if you're so disgusted that he's into rough sex...seems odd you wouldn't find this...a little distasteful. A tad bit hypocritical, no? This is truly ironic; You claimed she got paid from Bauer. Objectively false. You claim BAUER was the one who exonerated himself. Not true. That was the legal system. Not a Bauer fan boy as I'm not even in favor of signing the guy...more a fan of just admitting when I'm wrong...and I was wrong in this case. And based on how much you got wrong here, you CLEARLY have not read the actual details of this case. -
Jones and Jacobs would have been...nearly ideal. Wilson as the #3 and then you don't need to do anything in the draft, but you can. As it stands, I like Wilson, I know the Packers do as well, but I'd be surprised if they're confident with those two and a late rd pick. I still like Antonio Gibson. He got 3/11.5. That's an exceptional deal for a very good 3rd back. Perhaps there is still a scenario in which Jones tests the open market and the Packers bring him back. Jacobs the primary ball carrier, Jones stays fresh, Wilson fills in and plays STs. (I know it's highly unlikely, but...if ever there was a potential for a reconciliation, it'd be Jones and the Packers).

Bauer was never arrested. He was the victim of a con artist. As for other Women... feels like you could say that about any player. There are two issues. 1-Bauer was always...kinda obnoxious and disliked by teammates. 2-The initial accusation is still much more well-known than the "exoneration," or whatever you'd like to call it. I also don't think Bauer will ever be on his best behavior. My opinion on clubhouse...chemistry in Baseball has changed a lot in the past decade. I remember Bonds and Kent winning despite openly hating each other. It's an individual sport really. And yet, the team seems to play MUCH better when they have a Willy Adames or Aguilar-type personality in the clubhouse as opposed to a Bauer-type. -

Bauers was far more...public. I'm amazed that the texts from his accuser where she explicitly lays out HOW she targeted him, how she was going to do it, asked by her sponsor in advance if she ever feels guilty...that this didn't produce a bigger response is sad. Ok...so what is she? And that's NOT his "entire defense." "Net worth, 51M." "How are you gonna secure that bag" "Get Daddy to choke me out." Now, I don't know about the other accusations or if they have merit, but in THIS case, she was not a victim...she was a grifter who should have been prosecuted. -
I just saw what he got. 12.5 GTD? That's an awesome deal and...keeps him motivated. This was...an ideal day. You now made Safety and RB positions you can fill in the top 100 IF there is a guy available who jumps off the board, a Brooks, or...whoever. The balance between now and the future is one that Gutey is walking very well. Still think a Jordan Whitehead signing would be the icing on the cake.
-
Ok...well, that make sense. I hope they do go after a smaller, quicker back rather than a Braelon Allen type. It's just not a great fit in our offense. Those types of backs need time to get going and when your scheme is all about running to an area and then trying to find a hole, it's not a great fit with bigger power backs usually. Jacobs is a nice mix of both. Big and physical...and also an exceptional receiver who has good feet.
-
Arch Manning? They are in the WORST position you can be in...IMO. They're nowhere near contenders. They could possibly cobble a team together and hope to eek into the playoffs. It'd probably fail, but they could try. OR they could trade Jefferson for multiple 1sts, O'Neil would likely get them a late 1st from a team like SF, let the likes of Hunter walk, trade/cut Harrison Smith. I'd probably sign Darrisaw. Use this draft to draft more OL/DL...and they should probably trade back. Clean the cap up so that in 2-3 years they can be where the Bears are now. Not exactly an enviable position, but the Bears have a ton of cap space, they have 2 top 10 picks in a draft that has 6-7 truly elite prospects(and they can probably get on at 9 as QBs will be over-drafted). They won't though. They'll go and spend their FA money, they won't try and accumulate picks. They certainly won't care about supplemental picks. And next year they'll be picking ~8th-15th. Just like the Falcons have for years. That's fine though. I don't mind watching the Vikings enter a state of total irrelevance. Especially while Detroit is good and Chicago has the assets to be in a couple years.
