  1. I saw someone else talk about this. Maybe Andy Herman. He discussed trade up/trade down potentials. Basically trading up for Alt(I think that was his hypothetical) would require a #25 and a 2025 1st. He did say he didn't think Gute would do that either way unless Gute loved a player as he's been aggressive, but he's never been THAT aggressive. The other possibility was trading down from 25 and he threw out the idea that you could add a 1st from a team like Denver, IF one of the QBs is still on the board at 25 and they want to get him in the 1st to get that 5th-year option SO, hypothetically, Denver wants Penix or Nix, they offer #76, #121, and 2025 1st. If THAT trade is offered, Gute's voice shoots up about 10 octaves, his hamstring rips from the bone as he runs to send that trade in! And then he probably starts to look to move up from pick #41 and move back up into the end of the 1st rd. But a 1st rd pick from a team like Denver could have an enormous franchise-altering impact. That team is such a mess, that could be a top 5 pick if not a Bears-type situation with the Panthers this past year. I'd be more skeptical that Payton would do this...if he hadn't done it in the past. I do not believe that they'll make a concerted effort to add picks for next years draft. I think they approach this draft trying to just have the best draft possible and if they add a future pick, that'd be an ancillary benefit, not the driving motivation. Better to celebrate the 32nd pick when hosting the NFL draft than anything else!
  2. Totally agree with almost all of this post... That's why this is a great year to have those extra picks. Allows you to move up or down a bit. All obvious needs. I think we could get by with a day 3 LB. I don't think it'd be ideal. CB is up in the air with Stokes...who had a great rookie season in press man for rookie standards, but then struggled badly, got injured and that injured lingered so long... It's Jaire(injured), Valentine who I like, but he was about an average starter last year(PFF has him graded worse, I don't agree entirely, but solid either way). Nixon is not an ideal slot. So ideally, you find someone to play the slot and then a boundary CB you can develop and who can hopefully come in at some point this year and contribute...assuming it's not Mitchell or someone who looks ready to play right now. I also agree...I'd argue DeJean is worth taking there as he's more likely a Safety. If you have him listed as a CB, that makes more sense, but again, that fallback position is so valuable. Gives you such a high floor(though not a premium position). Watching how Free Agency played out, I have to believe the Packers sign Kamren Curl if they know he's getting just ~9 over 2 years. That was the steal of Free Agency. He's exceptional in coverage, vs the run. He's not a big play guy, but he is very much like an Amos guy and he can play both CF, but better in the box. --Totally agree with LT as the target in Rd1. I'd just push back and say that I think you can take a RT. Tyler Guyton for example. I would have no problem drafting him, starting him at OG(his knee bend is great)...or letting him take snaps all over. He moves so well, I think his issue is more the time spent at DT and just being raw. I don't see any part of his game that doesn't translate to LT. Zach Tom can play either OT also. So if you did take Fuaga(likely gone) you could let him compete at OG with Rhyan and whoever else you drafted and you could always kick Tom over to LT. I've heard people say that the Scouts and Front offices aren't as high on Fautanu, JPJ and Fashanu as the media big boards are. Fashanu is a blue blood. It's just a matter of cleaning up the inconsistencies. He was the "way too early" top 5 pick. Now I've seen him down to 15-18. Fautanu-He fits the Packers recent draft criteria nearly perfectly. You slide him in at RG this year...just to get the best 5 out there, he's an NFL OT, but to ease him in and I think he's your 3rd best OL right away. I think the Packers are going to be moving up and down the board though. Fautanu or Fashanu falls to 20, I think they'd be very eager to go up and get him. I really can't stand the gatekeepers who say "he's not on the Packers board," and offer these absolutes when the Packers have broken with several thresholds, BUT...you think Nubin would be a guy the Packers would go after? Nubin and his 2.91 RAS score, I'd guess that took him off the Packers board. His agility testing was awful, that's the testing the Packers seem to rely on the most. That would probably be the worst athlete the Packers have taken in the draft under Gute...even including late rd picks. It's possible the knee injury was the cause, but I think that's a hard sell for a safety to do what Hafley wants his safeties to do. And while you have McKinney, you really want those guys to be able to rotate and be somewhat interchangeable. I think we get more of a box safety, but I think someone like Bishop fits that profile better. Are you playing Quay as the Mike and Trotter as the Will here? I like Trotter, the lineage, FB IQ, it all fits, but for rd2, again, the Packers would really be going outside their "thresholds." These are obviously not absolute thresholds again, but I think Wilson, Cooper(who may be gone) or Colson later on are all better fits. I also like Ford as a MLB...problem is I don't think he's your #2 nickel LB. I think there are going to be a lot of lean, press type CBs available in this area. OL, Blake Fisher, I like him a lot. Alt overshadows him. An OG like McCormick or Zinter if he falls due to the leg injury. Jordan McGee from Temple could be a gem in the later rds. Joe MIlton would be a great pick in my opinion. Jaheim Bell could be a revelatin after Degura. He's an imperfect player, but he's such a dynamic play maker, I think he would be the guy they hoped they were getting in Degura. Sinnott is a guy who they could go after in Rd4. That's been a priority before. CB/S, Watts from Texas is a guy I've been high on. He's a converted CB, he's 6'3 205, 9.5 RAS IIRC. He'd be an outstanding coverage safety, but there are questions about his ability to play the run obviously. I really don't have any idea if they're willing to trade up in the draft, but if they do, I think they'll make it up by trading down a couple times to add picks in the 5th-6th rd just to take a couple more shots. This was a fluke-ish Mock and they're totally meaningless, but as I've said, I think OL is so important, I'd be fine doubling up on it early. (I took Karty on accident, so I threw a 4th at them just to make the mock work). I'd like to see 3-4 OL 2-3 DBs(I want to see Ford back, he was much better in coverage last year than I think he gets credit for and AJJ was a guy who was mocked as a 3-4th rd pick...I don't think it's wild that he's the other starter at safety, but you still need young players there, either to help this year or to develop). LB-I have Cooper/Wilson as my two favorites. I think Cooper has been unfairly labeled a Will and I don't see why. Ford is a thumber, he's not a nickel LB. I don't think you take him there if you do get a guy like Cooper, but...you could. Fautanu and Morgan can both play LT/OG. Zinter could play OT apparently...he's got the length and the feet(I don't really see it, he looks more like a mauler and OG only, but I've seen some argue he has a little positional versatility). Bullard-To be honest, I don't really know much about him. He reminds me a bit of Haha, but people are higher on him, so I thought he was a good fit.
  3. I saw he was up to 97-98 in short stints...and they're hoping he can carry that over into longer outings. Even at 93-96, more the Freddy range, he could be REALLY effective depth with the potential to come in and give you some quality starts. 5 pitches(4 more usable pitches). The Packers just KEEP finding these guys. Can't wait for Woessner who I'm excited about and I can wait for Mis to just...settle in, relax and stop getting people screaming for his callup. Kids already ahead of schedule, let him develop and work on his stuff, not just doing the stuff that can get MiLB Hitters out.
  4. Also...I thought the lawsuit was from December of this past year. There was an injunction limiting the # of transfers(unless you were a Grad student or your coach left). Have they lost more than that with regard to transfer rules?
  5. Well...again, it's Wrestling, but what they've done is put provisions in there wherein they'll pay for tuition(as part of the deal) and then if that athlete leaves, they're responsible for repaying that money. It's a different sport from the RTCs where athletes train for World and Olympic-level Wrestling, but they're more like contracts. Some of them are contingent. A truck(80-100K) and they lease it with the guarantee they'll own it outright. The difference is, you're talking about 200-400K in NIL+ the RTC money. If it were on another level like Storr, he could leave and get enough more that it likely wouldn't be prohibitive. It's a starting point and the only direct knowledge I have of any NIL deals, so it could be viewed as a starting point....I really don't know. It wouldn't stop an Arch Manning, but it'd likely stop a guy like Chuckie.
  6. I know they do this in some sports...maybe they don't believe they can do this with higher profile CBB/CFB players. The NCAA also allowed just one transfer as an undergrad, then you could transfer as a graduate student. But now with AJ Storr looking at 3 schools in 3 years, a step up each time, I'd hope the NCAA would fight it a bit harder. Not sure what the update on that was, but it's awful for the game.
  7. Agree with most of the rest...though I'd have both Wilson despite his age and Cooper still as good picks at #41. Wiggins is a helluva Cover Corner, but he's just so bad vs the run...you'd really have to try and pack some weight on him. I think it's something you could deal with if you upgrade the MLB and get another safety who's good vs the run like Hicks or Bishop, but it'd be a weakness. I think some of the "threshold," discussions get a little too stringent, but he'd be quite a bit lighter than they ever go at CB. Fautanu or Mitchell seems like the most likely trade-up options(~18 for Fautanu and probably up to ~14 or so for Mitchell...which would be costly).
  8. I recall. He was taking just really defensive swings and it was pretty clear he needed a reset, but I still had hopes he'd become a #2 type hitter. An imperfect comp to Trea Turner with less power and...less upside, but that type of defensive versatility and really good OB skills.
  9. Is he getting overlooked a little bit? To step right into full-season ball a year out of HS and be dominant? And from a guy who's from a cold-weather state? Has pitching become if not the strength of this system, at least on equal footing with the position prospects(I'm not including anyone on the MLB roster).
  10. Agreed. If we played a gap scheme, he'd probably be fine but he doesn't move well enough in space. I think they ran more gap than ZB at the end of last year and in the playoffs when they were rotating Rhyan in...but I don't know that to be true. It may just have stood out more because those two are so much better with that type of run blocking than they are in the ZBS. I do think Myers is athletic enough to play OG in this offense though. And when he latches on, he moves people. Barton could be a really interesting player. I'm not sure the Packers take a guy who's most likely just an IOL in Rd1 and he'd probably be gone before #41. If the reports that executives aren't as high on JPJ as the analysts who make the big boards, he could be an answer. It'll be interesting to see what they do, but the Packers have to get their OL settled. Love's getting probably at least 5/250. The salary cap looks good now, but the way to keep it in good shape it obviously not overpaying mediocre players. JRJ got 3/30. I would think Myers could get something close to that on the open market. That's a lot to pay. On top of that, IMO, the best way to evaluate need is to make a list of the top ~5-8 players who would hurt the Packers the most if they went down due to injury. The QB is always on that list. At the moment, I'd have Jenkins and Tom in that top 6-8 and probably even Walker(and I'm not a particular fan, though I think he's solid enough). They have nothing at RG right now. Sean Rhyan has shown little to suggest he can be a starter there. He rotated with JRJ who was banged up last year and his backup at the moment is...Royce Newman? I don't know if they go OL Rd1 of Rd2, but I would expect them to come out of this draft with 3-4 OL drafted and ideally, a couple between Day1 and Day2. #41 COULD be the ideal place to take an OL. Someone like Guyton, Morgan, Suamatia, Barton, if they slide past SF/Baltimore, they'd all be great fits and I think all of them have positional versatility. You'd draft Guyton to hopefully make him a future OT, but he bends well enough to play Guard. It's a good time to be a Packers fan. 5 picks in the top ~90 with the young talent we have? Halfway into this year, we were wondering if the Packers had the right QB in place or if they'd need to give up a ton of draft capital to get one.
  11. It's a big step up from the Ivy, there's no question there. I don't think Suamatia would have to kick inside, but I think he could and I think he'd be an immediate upgrade. Morgan can play OT and OG. Rosengarten, Coleman, Fisher, Puni, McCormick, I think all fit the athletic thresholds and could easily go in the top 3 rds. Zinter I believe would have been a 2nd rd pick without the injury. This OL class is deeper than it has been in years. Even guys like Beebe are good enough that being just limited to OG, I think they're worth a 2nd rd pick. He's a plug-and-play guy who immediately upgrades the OL. He's square and limited to OG only, but if the guy can play there for 10 years, I don't think that's a big deal. On the other end, someone like Guyton is tall, but he bends so well, that I don't think he'd have much problem playing OG...or OT.
  12. I'm not really looking at stats(I couldn't tell you what either rushed for without looking). I'm looking at how he reads blocks and sets his blocks up. Aaron Jones played at UTEP. This is a play I don't think Wright can make. Wright is more likely to take the ball 90 yards...I don't think he's more likely to keep churning out positive plays. As for the age, I'm generally looking at a back for one contract. So if Davis is 28 of 26 at the end of his deal...it's not that big of a deal for a guy who'll probably be there in Rd5. At #41, I'm looking for a premium position.
  13. I'd be happy with any of the guys in the first 3 rounds...but I would be VERY surprised if they use pick #41 on Jaylen Wright. I like him...I'm not sure he's the type of back the Packers would pick, but I'd love to see the Packers draft him...just not at 41. I feel like we have positions that are just clear-cut needs at IOL, LB...I'd assume DB unless they think much more of AJJ and have more belief in Stokes/Nixon and even Valentine who played well in my opinion, but didn't grade well. But taking Wright at #41 just seems like a high price to pay and Davis from Kentucky would likely be around a couple rounds later. I wish they'd focus more on that change of pace back who can be a HR hitter. Among the guys you left out, Beebe is a guy I think could easily go from #58 to #91, but not sure he's the type of player the Packers take, so not sure you'll regret leaving him out. I'd be a fan. Amegadjie in that same range. He is a really interesting prospect and the Safety from TCU, Perry looks like a guy who could be a STs demon and also has that ability to be a box safety while also playing CF. Same with Hamilton or Watts for that matter. I also wonder what they think of DeJean. Without him doing the agility testing, I doubt they can feel comfortable with him as a CB...but they also don't need to. At worst he has the physical tools to be a safety who, again, is a great compliment to McKinney. I'm not even sure if he's "better" near the LOS or in coverage. You could do so much with both of them on the field at safety. Both can play the slot, the run, cover the middle, and play in space. Anything else would be nitpicking...like Milton of Rattler. Not a fan of the latter and I think character issues would turn the Packers off, but it feels like your point here is more of a talented QB they could take to get back to trying to develop good backup QBs rather than Rattler in particular. This seems as good as any roundup. There are...what, 3 near guarantees with the Packers in the early rds. 1-High RAS score/22 or younger 2-Big time school/competition 3-Premium position So everyone pretty well fits that, especially early save for the LBers and an OT from Yale or Bishop...though does LB/S become a premium position when they're fundamental to the defensive change you've made? Or maybe they're just exceptions as Quay, Savage and then the older Wyatt were.
  14. There's a lot of very interesting players among those who are visiting, but one who I think could be a massive steal is Joe Milton. If he's there in Rd5, I'd be very happy to see the Packers take him. 6'5, built like a TE with elite speed, and just a cannon for an arm. It's worth taking a flier on him and seeing if Tom Clement can do something with him. I also love seeing Zach Zinter in there. I think he'd be the top IOL in this draft, or at least the top OG if not for the injury. Pretty substantial injury, but he's supposed to be ready to go for camp. He also has a little positional versatility.
  15. I agree, it'd be tough to move him. I don't think it'd be even a discussion until Myers was gone and he was signed to an extension.
  16. Ok...and is anyone acting like we're just happy to be here as the 3 seed and that a 1st round loss would be anything less than an unmitigated disaster? I don't see anyone re-writing history. I'm not quite as despondent as some are, but...I have yet to see one person call or refer to this season thus far as any type of success.
  17. I agree. Of all the moves they made...in hindsight, getting 3 1sts and this absurd haul for Rodgers is the most appealing, but it just wasn't feasible at the time. Back to Back MVPs and it appeared like Love made a big jump between '22 and '23 and even then, he was pretty bad the first half of the season. As for leverage, maybe they had it, maybe they didn't. I don't think Murphy coming out and talking about how much they'd hoped to trade Rodgers helped. It's a moot point now though. Just a passing comment on how it'd be nice to have the 10th pick.
  18. He was rotating back and forth with the 1st team in camp. Gutekunst said when he was drafted, he thought his best position was Center. It's certainly not a guarantee that they'll be able to get the OT they want or draft one in Rd1, but the question was about the Packers long-term Center.
  19. They were also expecting Bakh back...and if you'll recall, he was getting snaps at both Center and RT. It does add up. They want the best 5 players out there. Myers happened to be one of the best 5. He's a pending FA. I'm also trying to figure out where on Earth I said "because they brought someone in means they're going to draft them?" Did I miss that? I've actually said the opposite, the Packers tend to not draft the players they bring in for the top 30 picks. How did this become about pre-draft visits at all?
  20. I don't see really any upside to bringing Kemp in.
  21. Gutey answered that pretty clearly. They didn't have an OT with a rd 1 grade on them after Wright was gone. Last year was a particularly weak OT class. THIS year is a particularly deep OT class.
  22. It's been pretty well known that Tom's best position is Center since he came out. And the timing of the statement is just when Rob decided to share it...assuming it's true. I don't think the Packers are real big on smokescreens. They were conntected with Love, Watson, Wyatt, Jaire, Jackson all before the draft. I don't recall any disinformation from them.
  23. It actually looked to me like he did make that play...and with a little better footwork at 1B by Martinez there and his stretch is up the line a bit more, he gets to it. In any event, outstanding play and showed a bigger arm than advertised, but couldn't quite convert.
  24. Letson is probably the most exciting of the night for me. He or Knoth, but as a 11th(?) rd pick out of a cold weather state and limited exposure, to be pitching at low A already and show the type of stuff he did and the different pitches, that's incredibly impressive. Knoth is great as well, but you more expect it. As for Pratt...he's just one of those kids that looks like they've got the irrational confidence that they believe they belong from the jump...and I love it. You have to have some of that to thrive at such a young age, but he just seems like a kid who lives and breathes the game and loves playing and grinding. When you combine that with that frame, bat speed, his hands, that's a helluva package.
  25. So...3 drafts. And they traded up several times before that. He gave up multiple 2nds to trade up for Watson. In two of those 3 years he didn't trade up, he did acquire higher first rd picks via trade. He's openly said he's open to trading up or using picks to acquire veterans this year given his draft capital. I don't think it's so outrageous that to suggest would have to be sarcastic. Obviously, he was tongue-in-cheek about the fan reaction, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see the Packers move up 6-8 spots in this draft. Particularly given the recent comments about Tom as a center.
