  1. Not sure where this idea that Collins was bad in the 2nd half other than... sporadic playing time in Sept. 1st Half- .259/.363/.389 .751 OPS in 228 PAs 29/59 BB/K and a .333 BABIP 2nd Half- .268/.373/.436 and an .808 OPS in 213 PAs and a 28/39 BB/K and a .319 BABIP I don't really think we have to worry about 2nd half Collins. What would constitute deep then? Chourio also hasn't even started to hit his prime years and elite defense. We had one of the better OF groups offensively and defensively this year and... Mitchell could possibly add to that.
  2. Durang has 3 years left and has been worth... 13.4 Bref WAR the last 2 years. I don't see them trading him for Peralta. I also... really can't see the D-backs trading one of the best 2B(if not the best) for Ashby... who has great stuff, but is a reliever at this point, Megill who has 2 years of team control and Collins who... was a 28 year old rookie. I think you're looking more like a Pena+Henderson+Letson type deal for Marte... And Williams likely gets ~3/45 in FA. His underlying metrics were still elite this year. I also don't think that's good for anyone's blood pressure here in Milwaukee.
  3. I don't know... he hit some pretty suspicious home runs... He likely had access to his account with his knowledge and consent. I'd doubt it was to place bets, or that Ohtani realized the breadth of it, but a professional athlete who has someone he's given access to his finances and people have taken advantage of him. Pretty old story. He's also making 100M a year outside of Baseball. That's likely ramped up with the Dodgers, so say it was 50M before that. Not hard to lose track of a few Million a year.
  4. I don't believe Ohtani was gambling. The guy was making so much money, I just... really believe the story. Maybe I'm naive. As for the gambling part, it's a disaster. I am a "gambling doomer." I have no doubt there'll be lawsuits and in 15 years we'll see documentaries about people who ruined their lives over this. Students who took out student loans so they could gamble and inevitably lost it. Every sport is promoting it, every TV show. I turned on ESPN the other day and "Mad Dog," is just SCREAMING at the TV... I guess it's a segment where he rants about something, but it was all about how he lost his bet on an O/U on an NBA game and showing the last 90 seconds and the missed FTs. Like... really? It's not even a gambling session and this dude is acting like a clown. I get it's a bit of an act, but still. We need to teach people financial literacy and we're doing the EXACT opposite. Most people SHOULD retire millionaires. It takes surprisingly little, just starting at a young age and instead, that's going to fanduel or whatever.
  5. I mean... you could literally sign Kyle Tucker... and have money left over. That's with Woodruff. I'm sure that's not the most exciting signing given his recent year, but he fits the Brewers style of play really well. You could also sign Bichette, stay well under the average and play him at 2B and get another big bat in your lineup. Fun to think about. A true 5-tool player with a smooth swing who was banged up much of last year, but a .280./.365./.515/.880 type hitter since 2021, a 5 WAR player, 27 HRs, 21 SBs, really good defense, speed. Turang(2B)/Chourio(CF)/Tucker(RF)/Contreras(C)/Yelich(DH)/Vaughn(1B)/Frelick(LF)/Durbin(3B)/Ortiz(SS) And you could still sign a guy like Ryan Helsley... who I don't think anyone agrees with me on because they're not playing this hypothetical, but I think with his stuff and our pitching development, we could get more out of him and now you make Mears one run down the ladder while you provide protection for Megill in case the elbow wasn't 100% and he took one for the team by throwing in the playoffs. This is all pointless and firmly off-topic, but imagine being the Dodgers? 'Yeah, we've got Ohtani, Betts, Freeman, Muncy, 4 aces and maybe the most talented young stable of arms and a deep farm system, but... we just need one more 400M contract to put us over the top. Oh, and probably going to go sign an elite closer... but it'll be a quiet off-season for us!
  6. I... actually might. When you consider(assuming the numbers are accurate) the Dodgers finish their season or fiscal year with 25M in Net Revenue and the Brewers with 21(at least for 2024)... and what he's done in bringing in elite people to run the team, taken a step back and resisted meddling(Jeff Suppan, Kyle Lohse) and just given Stearns and Arnold what they need... yeah, I might. Imagine how that idea would go over on Twitter where there are people who genuinely want us to sign a Tucker or "for once be in on a guy like Soto." That' a comment I read last year... all while calling Attanasio cheap! But the DR academy we invested in, the AZ and the pitching lab? It's pretty amazing. Now... if he REALLY wants to win it, he could pony up about 800M and sign Kyle Tucker, make a blockbuster trade and acquire Tarik Skubal who he then extends at 10/400(both get 400M)... I'll definitely hand him the award! I may have to go and commission the plaque and...ya know, create the award, but yes, he'd get it!
  7. Great front office. A great boss delegates. It seems like Montgomery and... well, so many people have a lot of responsibility. How many executives of the year is this under Attanasio BTW? It's at least 4. Arnold 2X, Melvin won it in 2011 and then the only non-GM(at the time) Jack Z won it in... '07 or '08. Don't think Stearns won it, though... probably should have.
  8. I'm not saying it's coming or it's not coming, just that the MLBPA has proposed it. I'm not really sure why they'd be invested in it, but they've brought it up and the Commissioner has talked about it. The Angels... definitely would have blown up their future draft picks...so would the White Sox and Rockies I'm guessing, but... they blow it either way. Prime Mike Trout and Ohtani... and you get 1 playoff appearance with one of them. I doubt it's going to be a focal point of the next CBA given what's expected. It just seems a bit odd. The only league the protects teams from their own stupidity. I know some Dallas fans that wish other leagues that protected franchises from their own stupidity. Nico Harrison may still have a job.
  9. He was a rookie(though an old rookie), he had a great June, July, August. He starts getting sporadic playing time and he had a poor Sept with a .664 OPS(on a .219 BABIP) in less than 60 PAs. I think calling that "tanking" is... pretty harsh. .919 OPS- June .848 OPS- July .847 -August Those are also the three months he got the most PAs. That's... a real quick leash. Even during what you're calling a monumental tank, he still had a .345 OBP and put the ball in play(10BB/11Ks).
  10. I guess that... shouldn't have been so much a question as a statement. The MLBPA proposed allowing draft picks to be traded in the past and they've tabled it. Manfred doesn't seem to be opposed to it. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/07/which-other-draft-picks-are-eligible-to-be-traded-before-sunday.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/manfred-mlb-open-to-discussing-draft-pick-trading-in-the-future/
  11. Yes. I absolutely do criticize it's authenticity. And I don't know what the hell the first sentence means. "If I post the link, you don't bother to read it claiming you remember it and it didn't say what I said it did(Contreras extension talk). Yeah, you didn't post think link THEN either, you just posted two sentences of a VERY long article. I ACTUALLY posted links from before AND after when he said he was open to an extension. LOL... and I'm trolling?
  12. I don't think we spend ~15-20M on a pitcher unless it's Woodruff. So I'm going to keep guessing Jordan Montgomery. 1/6 is one projected contract I've seen him get(though they always seem low). He seems like a Brewers type signing and we just got a head start on it with the Shelby Miller trade. I like Kyle Finnegan as a reliever. I'd still be a bit concerned about Megill's elbow. He came back early from a strain. I don't like it so much at 10M a year. Ryan Helsley, same thing, love the idea of bringing him in... not for 12M AAV. Give the Brewers Montgomery and Helsley and I'd feel confident we'd have depth in our rotation and a dominant BP(and I know he wasn't great last year... neither was Dylan Cease and I'd gladly take him... if he were a realistic option).
  13. There have been discussions about allowing teams to trade their picks, right? I'm pretty indifferent... but on occasion, it'd be pretty interesting. When... Paul Skenes is coming out, or Harper, Strasburg. Guys who are viewed as clear-clear cut #1 picks or even in a 2010 like class with Harper, Tallion and Machado, 3 guys who were 1-1 picks in MOST classes.
  14. We're cutting and pasting now rather than showing links? It's funny, I put that in a ChatGTP search and it shows an article from the Brewers potentially signing him to a Minor League deal before 2023. So... kinda pointless, but maybe someone wrote the exact same thing about him recently and they're all wrong. 93.2 to touching 98 in 180 IP as a starter when I'm suggesting bringing him over as a long man IF Woodruff declines is "basically the same." Agree or don't... just don't pretend he's "basically the same" in terms of stuff as he was when we drafted him. And I think you know that or you'd have posted a link... since pretty much EVERY single link talks about how his stuff got much better this past year.
  15. I know, that's why I said IF that were to happen, he'd have made a pretty big mistake(IMO). I would think his agent would have some feel for what he could get, but... maybe not. Certainly not always the case. And I know the pay structure was... loose. I'd guess it'd be an opt out but he'd get 8M in that 2nd year for opting out. That way, if he's good enough, he pays off for both sides. If he's not, he's got some security. I always think of Sheet's and Harden and the contracts they got after they were hurt and out for a while, but... there are a lot more recent examples. Same here. I just hate when people list the injuries and start with the shoulder. That WAS his injury. He had a capsule injury. Then... it went and he needed surgery on it. That's one injury that takes a very long time. And... then a simple lat strain. It's hurt the Brewers due to the timing, but... he's another year removed. I also don't think we made the QO for a pick. Not exclusively. I think the thought process was probably... if he takes a 1 year deal, great, it's low risk. If he opts not to, we get a draft pick. But I suspect they'd prefer he accepts. Just... my opinion. The predictions on his contracts have varied SO much, it's going to be really interesting to see if he accepts. Otherwise, he declines I'm going to guess he ends up in NY for 3/75 or so. The Mets, Stearns, they have young pitching but could use depth and can afford it. OR... maybe the Braves. They'd also make a lot of sense. Sale, Strider and Woodruff as their 1-3.... plus Waldrep and other young arms.
  16. So... he was bad in the 55 IP he threw in 2020 and 2021? Quinn Priester was also bad. I don't care. Ponce went and build up his arm strength and added a plus change. Throws 95-96 hits 98 now. Lindblom threw 90. So... they're just two guys who pitched in the KBO. I would hope the Brewers don't make the mistake of writing a guy off because they once signed a guy from somewhere and he wasn't good. No more pitchers from Miss St because Ethan Small was a bust? That'd... be silly.
  17. I think if he gets a 3/40 type deal, he'll have made a mistake turning down the QO. Pitchers with his pedigree, baring another shoulder injury(which he proved he was back from, so that's a bit of a long shot and I'd assume he'd bet on himself)... but, even if he were to get injured this year, he's shown enough that I still think he'd get 8 figures next year. 1/10M I don't think people realize how many injured pitchers get signed hoping they'll get healthy each year. Maybe it's just because the Brewers don't do it. But taking 8M/16M/16M vs 22M/?/? would certainly not be betting on himself. He'd need 9M a year for 2 years to beat that. Shane Bieber just "shocked" the Jays by opting into 16M PO. And you can go back and list the guys like Trevor Rosenthal, a reliever who was signed toward the end of the season for 4.5M(not prorated) despite not having thrown in 2 years and being bad the years prior to Kluber or... it's a very long list. I would love to see a 3/40 deal for him. Injuries lead to other injuries. He's got a full off-season with a healthy shoulder and his lat should be fine... early enough. They'll likely be careful with him next year(that's kinda their MO regardless of the pitcher).
  18. If Woodruff declines, Cody Ponce is intriguing to me. Longshot, bringing a guy we gave up on back in , but if he gets 3/21, we could use him out of the pen as a long man, or splits innings with Ashby. Ashby goes 4, Ponce goes 3, FB plays up, 97-99 in shorter outings. He could be a very interesting. I wonder if he may be wiling to come back to the team that drafted him. Fedde type deal, but he has better stuff. And I still like Caleb Ferguson. You could get Ponce and Ferguson for the price of Woodruff, but it'd also limit the flexibility you'd have on your 40 man. Not to say I'd prefer one of the other, but Ponce 3/21 and Ferguson at 2/12 and potentially a comp pick. Just the type of thing we could do if Woodruff thought he'd get more and declined.
  19. They're obligated to pay the 10M either way. That was really salary from this year. So technically, he'll get 32M. 5M in Jan and 5M in August or... whatever it is. And then 22M in his paycheck. I still think it's 50/50 he accepts. This has happened with quite a few guys. It seems like some end up settling for what is close to the QO on a 1 year deal somewhere they didn't want to go. But there was one year where Craig Kimbrel and... someone else, they both waited to sign due to the QO. We'll find out in 10 days if he accepts. The Brewes sure lucked out and got Kyle Lohse because nobody wanted to pay the pick attached to that QO on him!
  20. Ortiz has played 2 years in Milwaukee. He was solid his first year. This year his BB% dropped in half and his BABIP was .260 despite having very good speed. More importantly, they weren't going to sign Bichette, so... who was this money going to go to? They have Pratt in AA. He'll be in AAA to start next year. Made in AA. Those are the SS replacements if we're in need of one. What FA do you think would have cost 22M over a year that would have been worth it....
  21. Of course. It'd be silly to turn around and trade Peralta now because you have Woodruff back. You're paying more for less of a sure thing. I am kinda curious if the Brewers think or expected he'd decline or maybe they will trade him. Could be they have an idea of a player or package they can get for Peralta and Woodruff is stepping in just in that role. He's a veteran leader, good pitcher. Another year removed from the shoulder, so... hopefully healthy. But then you're not trading due to finances. You're trading entirely due to team building. I'm not sure what you mean by you "have to trade Freddy if he isn't signed by the winter meetings." Are we talking about an extension or... Woodruff if he declines the QO? Either way, I'm... not seeing the upside in trading Peralta. I don't actually think he had a lot more value than Adames did. An elite fielding SS with power vs a... really good but not quite ace type starter? The value is a toss up. I also do not think they throw Woody 1 inning in the minors next year because he's blocking young pitchers. They're not going to waste however many bullets he has on AA just for the helluva it. Go through the innings we have to cover. Then look at the pitchers we have. Peralta should give you ~6 a start, Preister 6-7 a starter and... who else? Especially among the younger starters. You're not keeping Woodruff down so they can get innings. They can work on their stuff at AAA. We also have a lot of pitchers who could be really good and are probably not great candidates to go through an order a 3rd time. Henderson, Ashby, Hall(don't think he'll be a starter, but... lets say he is). -Comp picks. That's... a BIG part of how the Brewers build. It's also not just the pick. You can't get too hung up on who is used on THAT exact pick. It's the pool money. That pick may allow you to sign 3 more High School prospects like Adamczewski in Rds 11-20. That's enormous. Bishop Letson... or maybe they'll be nobodies. The Brewers best prospect seldom line up in the same order they were drafted(even immediately following the draft). But that pick, between 1 and 2 or 2 and 3, they're both... VERY valuable.
  22. I am skeptical teams will view him as a CFer and... I believe teams will want him. I just think it'll be closer to half that 90M.
  23. There's... really not much of a comp to Hoskins. Grisham's numbers the previous 3 years were .191/.298/.353 with a .651 OPS. and his value was driven almost entirely by his defense(what little value he had). He was basically Blake Perkins except... he's not capable of playing CF any longer... before this year which is a pretty extreme outlier. Compare that to Rhys Hoskins...who isn't really relevant here his worst year of his career before tearing his ACL was the year before. His career numbers in Philly- .242/.353/.492 and .846 His WORST, the year was the year before he tore his ACL -.246/.332/.462 794 OPS and hit...33 HRs. He was a homegrown and fan favorite for a big market team That he'd have led the Brewers in HRs or SLG doesn't mean he's worth 20M+ next year(or 15M over 4-5 years). Jo Adell, Taylor Ward, Jorge Polanco all had better SLG and I wouldn't pay any of them. In any event, anything near 4/90 for Grisham is... kinda silly. The Yankees CAN afford to piss money away, but with Dominguez, Spencer Jones, Jazz Chisholm. I'd sign Bichette and move him to 2B and Jazz to 3B or the OF before paying what you know is going to be a bad deal to Grisham.
  24. He could have made that case based on his numbers... no doubt about it. But I can't believe anyone would have come... even close to that. 4/60 would have been the higher end. Maybe I'm just more skeptical of him, but I believe when you get into the post-season, vs better hitters, if you have ONE plus pitch... even a plus-plus pitch, the best change up in the game, hitters can lay off it enough. Hader, Diaz... Clause? Worth it. Williams? I'll take Megill or Uribe(though Uribe looks like he may actually be able to put up similar numbers).
  25. They have to have. They aren't just rolling the dice on 22M.
