  1. No... 1-I don't know that he's an upgrade from Ortiz. In fact... I'm going to bet he's a downgrade. He's not as good of a defender and I know how we're all writing off Ortiz after a poor offensive season this year, but I think he'll be closer to '24. He's got good bat speed, patience. BUT... lets say he is an upgrade. +100 OPS. That's not worth it for the Brewers to spend 20M AND; 2-We're trading a young, GG caliber SS in AA? A guy who COULD easily develop into a 20-25HR a year type threat... and what are we getting? If we were going to make a trade like that, I would have understood it if you wanted to add a guy like Duran or an elite BP arm with team control(don't think you're getting a better starter than we have). We MIGHT be able to spend 20-30M in Free Agency. I think that's an optimistic number. I don't actually think we will, but... lets say we have that much to spend. I don't want to spend it on the position with the most depth in the system.
  2. I don't believe he's saying the owners need to, but... the fanbase. And IMO, the answer to that is simple. The fan base has very little appreciation for what Selig actually did. Most remember or think of him as being a bad owner... because of Wendy Selig-Prieb years.
  3. I don't actually know if Valentine is worse or if they just ask very different things of him and Hobbs. They rotate their CBs and they've been playing a LOT more man the last two weeks. Valentine I think is the best in Man on the team... though Nixon has been solid and he's asked to cover the #1 more... Hobbs is much more physical and maybe better in zone. I'd have to watch these games over and a lot closer and with A22... and I'm just not invested enough to do that right now, but that's kinda my take from watching. Who you would want to add would depend entirely on what you're going to play. Marlon Humphrey would be a pretty solid addition... and the Ravens would probably just about give him away at this point, but I wouldn't want to be playing a lot of Man with him either. He's a ball hawk and a REALLY smart CB. I know he's been bad this year, but everything has gone wrong for Baltimore. DT, I think is probably fine, though if someone is cheap, it's always a good spot to upgrade. I think this is our team though. There's more than enough talent. They just have to put it together.
  4. Yup. That would be been nice as well. That feels like a more obvious pick(and someone on Twitter is doing a "the next player at this position drafted" on Twitter, but... I'm more... interested in that OL. You can win with pretty average QB play or even without great WRs(SF) if you have a dominant OL and DL. You're right though, for that exercise, Collins is the better or smarter value pick.
  5. The Saints almost have to be open. They've got... really nothing on that roster that's built for the future. Alontae Taylor is a CB I'd definitely be interested in as well as Shephard or Godchaux, Phillips from the Jets would be great, or someone like Shelby Harris, the Milwaukee native from the Browns. I'd include Ward, but I think THEY think they can compete in the near future, so doubt they trade him(he also hasn't been good with the Browns, so... if he's not good with that front...). Marlon Humphrey would be someone MAYBE worth taking a flier on. The Ravens are likely going to overhaul the CB room next year. Our Run D has been elite thus far... but so has our pass defense on paper(4th best vs the run, best vs the past in average yards per route).. but a couple area's we could clean up. Ronald McCreary from the Titans would be preferable, but I'd imagine they'd want to re-sign him. Kingsley Enagbare is one name I've seen suggested the Packers could trade. Especially with how well Barryn Sorrell looks in pretty limited snaps(hasn't put up any real numbers, but he's physical and is disruptive). My main issue is the OL... but, I don't think you can update the OL until the off-season, so gotta figure out a way to get them more reliable and Love more comfortable. Might have been better off just tanking in 2023 when we had a chance to take Joe Alt. ....if only 2021 NFL draft. RD 2 #62-Josh Myrers #63-Creed Humphrey Rd3 #85 Amari Rodgers #98 Quinn Meinerz RD6 #214-Cole Van Lannen #224-Trey Smith That was also the Royce Newman draft. Not taking Humphrey was just a bad decision then and there. The other two is totally revisionist history(though everyone WAS high on Meinerz). If they'd JUST taken Creed over Myers, you'd have the top Center in the game. If you'd have taken Meinerz, you've be spending your money on a 1st team AP instead of Aaron Banks. That'd be 1st team AP at C, G, 3rd team AP at RT. Morgan/Jenkins/Humphrey/Meinerz/Tom There's really no point to this other than I had some salt and decided to pour it in that wound... but that's not where we're at... and we've done alright with Tom in the 4th rd and Jenkins has been playing much better as the season has gone on.
  6. Yeah... I'm kinda hoping this is like years in the past where they start clicking later in the game, but... this team is just... missing something. I'm sure if they had Wyatt, Watson, Reed and Belton, it'd be a blowout, but you're never going to have everyone. It's the NFL. It kinda reminds me of when Rodgers was playing without Adams. Also, those bubble screens. They're not working, They need to develop something off of it. They definitely have the talent, but... they should have won this game far more easily. It was 0-0 and the Packers had ~150 yards to 1 yard. They dominated the Browns, Cowboys and then the first half vs the Bengals. This team is also better when they're playing with more pace. It wouldn't kill them to play with pace up a couple scores. Put the Bengals(or any of those teams) in a position where they have to attack, get more aggressive and then let the defense tee off. It seems like Love and the offense also get too conservative. Teams are playing press man and we're not taking shots vs that(except the one we took with Golden).
  7. Nixon plays the ball REALLY well. He's generally not great in man, but... he plays the ball. I'm skeptical of these CBs, especially in Man, but Nixon has been really good so far this year, but he's made more plays on the ball than any CB we've had outside of Jaire.
  8. Turang is now a Super 2, so I think 7/120 would probably be fair. Edit-NOW a Super 2, rather than "not" a Super 2. If he's not a Super 2, that'd adjust the number.
  9. Ok... starting with Mitchell, I wouldn't bank on him for anything... but I would be fine with starting the year with him in CF. If he gets hurt, Chourio moves over and Collins moves back into the starting lineup. Ortiz-I agree. Last years offense +this years defense and that's a ~3-4 WAR player. I don't know what happened to the bat speed or why the walk rate is off from last year, but... we saw Turang taking those defensive hacks. Also, we REALLY don't have much of a choice. We not going and giving up a lot in one of these really... overly complicated trades in which Chad Patrick is going there and 2-3 players are going to another team and we get a SS when.. we have 2 in AA and 1 in HiA. Adams, Wilken, Burke(though he's DH/1B only IMO) could also be ready next year. 2027 is going to suck because I feel like that's... our '94 Expos type season. But I'm not bringing up Made until that '27 season unless he's just SO good that he forces his way up.
  10. He is probably going to need a year in AA and Pratt is coming up before him... and I'd like to see an extension with him like we had with Chourio. You can't force that... BUT, he's so young, I wouldn't be quite so quick to bring him up. As for Ortiz... I thin you're all throwing him on the scrapheap a bit too early. This is basically his second season. He was solid last year, especially at 3B and he has been bad this year, but... we don't NEED to rush this. Pratt will be ready hopefully if they really NEED someone, if he's this bad again next year, but I would think a fresh year will be good for him. He may not be the player he was supposed to be, but he should be good enough to get you to the next wave and then a super utility man for a year or two or traded at that point. We want to do this with all our own young players who struggle, but then we're just looking for other players who have the same pedigree who have also struggled(else they wouldn't be available to us). Also, you said he cost us 45 runs with the bases loaded. Didn't he have 16 RBIs with the bases loaded in 31 PAs? I'm not sure the average runs scored per AB with the bases juiced, but I don't think it's 1.5...
  11. I think it's just as likely that Ortiz bounces back and has a solid offensive season next year. I mean... close to last year anyway. I think players get in their heads and they can look REALLY bad at the plate, taking really defensive swings. I would go into next year with the same IF. If Ortiz is this bad, you have Pratt who'll had hopefully some time in AAA. You can move Turang to SS and Durbin to 2B with Wilken, Adams, I think Fischer could move fast. I wouldn't rush Made. In fact, I'd tell him... 'you either sign this deal Chourio did or... we might not decide you're ready for 4-5 more years.' That's obviously so ridiculous I don't need to put it in blue, but the main area of the team I'd like to add to is the back of the pen. I love the OF. I don't trust Mitchell, but I think he will eventually be there for a season. SPing could be really interesting. IF could use an upgrade obviously, but you have SO much prospect capital invested into not area's of weakness, it doesn't make sense to go make a big deal at this point.
  12. Wow... that was the most surprising easy FG I've ever seen go in.
  13. The Athletic Department can afford it. But ultimately, I think the bigger you dig the whole, the more it'll cost you in the long run. We're looking at a string of 3-4 win seasons right now. Again, the Badgers athletic departments generates a LOT of revenue. They don't have the support OSU, Michigan or PSU have, but they're top 20. You keep losing momentum, you're keep losing money from boosters and you go from an angry fan base to something much worse. An indifferent one.
  14. They're fine if you're going to... actually go down field once in a while. If there's ZERO risk to jumping the route... it's like play action without running the ball... and NOW they hit one with Golden!
  15. 1 player out of the top 20 in next years class. Several players going to other B1G, SEC programs. But... no, we DON'T need focus more on Wisconsin. Really kinda feels like that's antithetical to what has been the Badgers core. But if you say 'nuh-uh,' then... I mean, I guess I can't argue!
  16. Yeah, I'm not making ANYTHING up. The first thing Barry talked about as a coach at UW was building a wall around Wisconsin. That at least gives you a reliable base. YOU saying, That's not abandoning those principles? They have ONE of the top 20 players coming out of Wisconsin next year... in a good class. But no, they don't need to focus on Wisconsin more! We got a couple players from SEC country! Which... we've pretty much always done... in ADDITION to taking the top players from Wisconsin.
  17. He's getting almost 60 Million, they'll be getting a head start on the coaching search. I don't think it's a class thing, I don't think there's any point in prolonging it after you've made your decision.
  18. This the silly type of arrogance that has us back to the same level we were in the 80s. Nah, you're right. It's a brilliant idea to completely abandon the most basic principal that made you a perennial top 20-25 program... No need to recruit your home state because in his 4th year, it he'll have a QB from the SEC! You certainly can't do both! That's a rule that... someone... apparently made up.
  19. It'll cost more to keep him. The Athletic Department is going to bring in ~200M this year. The longer you wait, the bigger the hole you dig. The money has to be paid either way and another year and then part of a year after isn't going to do anything but push us further down, burn a couple more classes and... you're paying him the same. The revenue our AD department generates is among the top 20 in the Country. After you figure out your HC, pony up and bring in Bostad back. If there was ONE time when things started to wobble at UW from the perennial top 25 program and just showing cracks, it's when you brought him back and had him coaching somewhere OTHER than the OL. I do suspect they'll sit still and... that's fine, I'll have more Saturday's without having to schedule it around the Badgers.
  20. He's definitely not leaving Ole' Miss for Wisconsin. He's talked extensively about how coaching at Ole Miss he's been able to spend more time with his family and... how it's been good for him. And why would he want to come to a program that is now in need of a COMPLETE rebuild. From the bottom up. Not just the roster, but you've lost so much ground in your own home state, you've lost ground in Minnesota where you used to go in and steal some talent, Illinois, you have no Jersey Pipeline. You need someone who knows the state and I don't care if they're boring. The Badgers hung their hat on being "boring" for the entire resurgence when they were routinely winning 9+ games over an almost 30 year period. Leonhard or Leipold. You'd have to go back, hat in hand to the prior... and you'd need to fill out the staff with a really good recruiting coordinator, but at LEAST you could start to get back to at least getting Wisconsin kids(remember when that was "the problem," our 10-3 teams were largely Wisconsin OL/DL/LB without enough skill position to QUITE get over the hump when you were 6 points away from playing in the CFB Playoffs and going 14-0 in the regular season under Chryst). Or Leipold. I remember hearing a few guys on his staff back at WW and a couple kids who played for him and they all loved him. His coaches knew he'd end up as a big time D1 coach and he got the most out of the playoffs. Maybe he's the guy to try and scratch back some of the ground we lost. I'm not blaming anyone for the Fickell hire. Hindsight is 20/20 and I thought it was a great signing. I REALLY did think he was going to stick with the main identify of the team offensively and just ADD to that, thinking again, similar to when Chryst was the OC... and I thought he may be able to pluck a few elite recruits her or there and find a Lamar, Sauce type talent now and again. Instead, it's been an unmitigated disaster and waiting longer is going to cost the program more in the long run.
  21. Yeah... I don't think that means much for this series, but you can go look at their 2024 record. Lost 2 of 3. Split a 4 game series, won the last 2 Won all 6 this year vs them. 8 in a row.
  22. No he's not. He's fine. He wasn't super sharp this series and the Cubs jumped on him in the game he started... but he'll be fine. NOBODY would have trusted Misiorowski the days before the series. Same thing. You only have a couple of arms with overpowering stuff. You can't keep him off the roster because we used him in the biggest spots and he wasn't giving in. He overpowered their best hitter(though not best hitter in the series) and got the biggest out. Ashby is a bigger lock to be on the roster than almost anyone else. IF we pull off an upset, it's going to take Myers, Misiorowski, Patrick, Ashby... and of course Peralta and Priester to throw the ball well. Probably Quintana as well. So basically the guys who carried us in this series(Miz, Priester and...Quintana pitched well) and then a couple guys who struggled... Peralta in 1 of the 2 outings, Ashby was not sharp and Priester... who I'm gonna guess starts Gm1...though could be Quintana. But you can't put too much weight into a couple of rough outings for a guy who's been there all year. --I haven't heard where DL Hall is. He could also be a big addition to the NlCS roster. He and Myers. In a perfect world, those two plus Hoskins are on the roster. Lockridge, Gasser and... one more player are of. Not sure who that'd be or if Hall is even an option. They also need better ABs from Turang, Frelick(who started having better ABs) and Yelich. Those three will be huge. It'll be a big of an upset, but... we've both handled the Dodgers this year and we've been on the wrong side of some tough luck playoff series. About time to turn that around. Getting that first Series win since 2018 off their backs is huge. 4 wins from the WS.
  23. Nah, you can't go away from Ashby. He had a bad game facing the top of the Cubs order and giving up a pitch up and out of the zone to their hottest hitter for a 3R HR... but he's been one of your best pitchers all year. Myers should replace Gasser on the post-season roster. He was perfect in his first game, there was an error that led to a run in his 3rd game and then he came up with one of the best pitches of the game to get Tucker on the strikeout there. And he wasn't sharp. But you definitely need him vs the Dodgers.
  24. Eh, he had a bad inning. I'm not worried about where he pitches. I don't put much stock in that inning OR the season splits where his ERA was ~1 ER better on the road. Gonna have to eat up a lot of innings and we're going to need a couple more guys to step up in the 7 game series. Tobias Myers should be 1. If not, you'll be calling on Gasser to give you innings at SOME point... and probably multiple innings. Just as important, Turang and Yelich need to have better ABs. We escaped and Turang came through, but need more to beat LAD.
  25. Tobias Myers, Joining the Trio in a couple days in Milwaukee!
