  1. If they're getting Pratt back...it's probably not all that far off. I wouldn't trade Pratt but if Cruz was on the Brewers... it'd almost be like Chourio. You'd be thinking it's a matter of when, not if. He's GOING to break out and have that 40/40 season. And I don't care if he hits .230 doing it. Suarez hits for a low average, but he does a lot of damage.
  2. I think you make that trade without a second thought. He's not that expensive and the guy has as much talent as anyone in the game. Just 5 tool player who needs to reign his game in a bit but absolutely has superstar potential. Best bat speed, arm, exit velo. A guy that hits the ball that hard would probably do well in Milwaukee. I imagine there's a lot of other teams drooling thinking about what could be with him. So I wouldn't trade for him as they'd almost certainly want a WHOLE lot more than C-Rod, Boeve, Black and Ernesto. They'd likely want a top 100 prospect and maybe a Boeve or couple other prospects. Teams would be trading for both what he is now...which is a flawed player who hits the ball harder than anyone in the game but doesn't hit it enough and not as a decent CF who is not good in the IF and has a lower 700s OPS. He wouldn't be close to as bad of a hitter over the course of the year as Ortiz. He's also been a better hitter than Contreras. Ranking hitters by BA is a terrible way to rank them and even in that category, he's better than Ortiz. OPS. OBP+SLG. The guy also steals a LOT of bases and I think he'll turn into an elite CFer with more time out there. But I don't think he can play SS.
  3. Yeah, I know DRS has him grading out poorly... I just don't believe it. Two contrasting reference points. Baseball Savant places him among the elite defensive SS's. We've watched Ortiz. So my eyes and one set of metrics(the one I generally default to). Or Fangraphs DRS and I don't trust my eyes. That's my issue here. Suarez 100% looks like a "real difference maker." He does. Put him in this lineup with Yelich, Chourio both getting hot, hopefully Contreras heating up, still have some faith in Hoskins in a big spot and it's possible Black can be a bit of a spark plug for us(a non-zero chance anyway, he was right there with Frelick, Last 5 years, Suarez has a line of .229/.315/.439 and a 754 OPS, 107 OPS+ and ~26 HRs a year. This year, 36 HRs, .254/.325/.598 for a .924 OPS Are you giving up the player who'll be coming up next year and filling a hole at SS for the Brewers(or 3B). I'm guessing it's more likely 2027 or late next year in case of injury, but he's only 20. I look at all the teams, I think it's at least Pratt or Quero+ for either. That's really hard for me to justify, but I understand people want a bigger bite at that apple.
  4. Yeah...I did not like that. I'm over it. Now... feels like you'd have to go Henderson MAYBE Quero/Pratt to get Suarez. I don't want that either. Maybe I'll be wrong on both counts, but Priester was a talented arm we were buying low on, but we had 6 years. You get Suarez, at BEST he's who he's been this year and particularly as of late. Most likely, he doesn't keep up this past and you may have traded an elite defensive SS who draws walks and hits for power. I'm glad it's not my call and I appreciate the fact we have Made and Pena(both of whom I'd put JUST behind Chourio and Misiorowski as nearly untouchable)... but we can keep winning because we don't blow our best young talent like the Padres do. And even then, they could sign Machado and Tatis, Boegarts, and then...whoever else. They've been outstanding as acquiring young talent. Just imagine if they were patient enough to let it develop? I ALSO think we gave up a lot for Priester and I think that is the result of having a deep and talented system. It's kinda hard to offer your 25th ranked prospect for a player you want... but there's less separation from the ~10th prospect to the 25th prospect that I can remember. My guess is the Brewers could swing a deal for Quero+Henderson for Suarez. Is that a deal people want? Otherwise Pratt and a lower level prospect. Maybe that is good enough. That's... LOT to give up. I do not think we're getting him for Chad Patrick, Tobias Myers or a pitcher like that. Too many teams could use 3B help and right now he's a top 10 hitter.
  5. What metrics are we using here? When I see the metrics, they match what I see on the field. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/joey-ortiz-687401?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  6. They were both on the verge of a AAA promotion and leading AA by quite a bit in OPS. Adams had a .425 or so OBP. I wasn't expecting a promotion, but... it's hardly a stretch they get a call up if there is an injury at their position. If you hit well in AA, you're always close to being called up.
  7. Luis Pena I get that Made is the bigger name, but Pena has 70 speed, he looks like a guy who'll hit .300, hit for... solid power and could be an outstanding defensive 2B(or stick at SS). Jesus Made Switch hitting power hitting IF'er. Giving me Jose Ramirez vibes. Cooper Pratt JJ Hardy with better plate discipline...and the ability to cover the inside part of the plate.Jeferson Quero Defensive first catcher who can hit .280 and hit for a little power?Braylon Payne One minor little tweak to his step that I'd prefer to see adjusted a bit, but it's nit picking. Right now he looks like a guy who can play an elite CF, steal some bases, he's got good plate discipline and decent power and with is frame, more could come. Not the 2nd coming of the Kid, but very impressive as an 18 year old in A-ball. Luke Adams I don't think he's Adam Dunn, but I think there's some similarity there(from the right side). Better athlete, but I think he's going to hit ~.220, walk 12-15% of the time and hit for a lot of power. One of my favorite prospects. Marco Dinges Offensive first catcher who looks surprisingly capable as a catcher given the limited PT there at FSU. Logan Henderson 8 seems a bit low for Henderson, but I love the guys above him. Robert Gasser Gasser has already shown he can pitch at this level. Andrew Fischer A pretty safe bat. If he can hit .250+ his power will make him an extremely valuable player. Brock Wilken Bad luck, but he's got huge power. He's not going to be Brooks Robinson at 3B, but he's got a big arm. And with #1, #2 and #3, he may be destined for 1B/DH anyway. Blake Burke Reminds me of Joey Votto when he was coming up. Very patient hitter, hits for average. May not be a prototypical power hitter...though I think he'll add some. Very suddenly 1B/3B seem to be deep in this system. Josh Knoth I'm still high on Knoth. Most pitchers will have TJ at some point. Knoth can touch 98 as a LHP with a developing repertoire. He might be the #1 pitcher on this list if he hadn't lost the season due to TJ, but I think he'll come back stronger as he fills out. Brady Ebel I'm kinda shocked we're at 14 and this is where I'm putting Ebel... I do value upside over proximity, but 6'3 left handed bat who looks like he's got the ability to stick at 3B and again, one of the youngest players in the draft. Oddly reminds me a bit of Tyler Black with the potential for more power and a more clear defensive home. Josh Adamczewski All he's done is hit. He's kept pace and then some with some of the top prospects in baseball in Made, Pena...lacks the positional versatility, but another player who can do it all. Bishop Letson Part of that incredible '23 class, Letson could be even higher if not for a shoulder issue that's kept him out since June. He's dominated HiA, also touching 98 this year. ANOTHER big cold weather guy the Brewers stole in the late rounds. Eric Bitonti Bitonti is a hit or miss guy and I could both put him 10 spots lower this year or 10 spots higher in years past. He's got such a smooth swing, if he can improve the hit tool just a bit, he's going to be an very valuable prospects.Bryce Meccage There just aren't enough spots. I liked Flores, the LHP who was committed to Kentucky in this range, but Meccage is again, a 6'4 RHP who has room to fill out, add velocity and refine his slider...which is his 4th best pitch at the moment. Tyson Hardin A plus FB and elite command give him a high floor. Brett Wichrowski With a FB that can hit the upper 90s, an advanced slider, my only concern is the relatively low K and BB rate in AA. Fallback is another flamethrower in the Brewers BP, upside is he a solid rotation arm if he can develop the cutter or change. Not having Lara on here feels a little silly. Boeve, Thompson, Flores... this is a deep system with ELITE talent at the top and so many top 20 worth guys being left off. Ethan Murray were he a bit younger would be around 15, but he looks like he's going to be a contributor nonetheless. This farm system reminds me of the Brewers with Prince, Weeks, Hardy, Hart, Braun... but we didn't create it with top 5-10 picks, we've done it will building a competitive team. But where that farm system was top heavy and you have to kinda search for guys who might, maybe could contribute a bit, this one has...so many who are going to be ready each year. We have the 55-60 FV prospects, we've got 50-55 FV, we seem to be loaded(IMO) in the 45-50 FV range. Misiorowski is gone, that may stop us from having the top ranked farm system, but what this front office is doing is amazing...and only watch these guys play a few times a game. What just affirms all of this is watching these scouts on Twitter raving about Dinges and having him as a top 5 catcher or people with no affiliation to the Brewers arguing why Pena should be the a top 3 SS prospect ahead of Made and Pratt. And we just keep adding guys with another deep draft where...hopefully, we can get 18-20 of these guys signed.
  8. I don't think he's a better 1B much less far better. He's also hurt and they can play together. Second, while Woodruff, Quintana and Cortes will be gone in 2026...I wouldn't expect Peralta to be...there's just not a good reason to any longer. We've got a top...2-3 Farm system. We can afford to take the QO and add the draft pick rather than trading the ace of the staff in what should be a year wee compete. But you've STILL got Misi, Gasser, Myers, Patrick, Henderson, Priester, Ashby, Crow...perhaps Hall IF you did trade Peralta. I'm forgetting someone because that's how deep we are and then you have guys who are coming up in AA and throwing really well AND...it's not like Quintana was on the team. You added him. You'll also offer Woodruff the QO, he'll decline, but a post-season run would give us the ability to spend money(as well as having a little coming off). Not on a star, but the Brewers know where to pick their spots. So they can deal a pitcher or two if it makes their chances to win a WS significantly stronger. Those deals...would do that. I want another power reliever to move Mears down a spot. And while Ashby can be used in that role...he's also pretty valuable coming in for the tough lefties in the middle of the game with the game hanging in the balance. I did not like how he was used yesterday, yesterday I thought they should have brought Anderson in to begin with, but settting that aside, there's no a good reason to not go and add to your pen. In the post-season, say Misi doesn't have great command but he can get you through 4 innings. You can bring in Ashby for 2, Soto, Mears, Uribe, MeGill. That's a tough group of arms to get through. This is the type of move the Dodgers make year after year. We're not giving up guys like Letson and we're turning guys like Wichrowski and Hardin into real legit prospects who have big fastballs and are certainly good enough to be a 9th or 10th starter in an organization.
  9. Unless it was inaccurate or an outlier, seeing Myers has added velocity and improved his change in AAA makes me want to hold onto him. But for this package... I'd do it. I don't want to give up any of the 3 young SS, I don't want to give up a young Catcher who is top 100 or close to it. Henderson may have his peak value right now, so I suppose in a bigger trade, if you got back a Duran...eh, maybe. I do love the idea of getting back a LHH 1B. I like Bauers just fine, but he's a good defender and has some versatility. O'Hearns is a big upgrade. I appreciate what Vaughn has done, but I just don't trust him either.
  10. Yeah, he got dead arm because he was taking a lot of reps at SS, reps he wasn't used to making and he was making a lot more in a shorter period of time. Guys get dead arm all the time. They rest it and they're fine. This doesn't mean Turang can't slide over to SS. And his defense has been outstanding. We currently have two hitters who are hitting below average. Below a 100 OPS+. Ortiz and Contreras and he's a good game away. I'd love to add Suarez, but his performance of late has only increased his market value and now I think you're talking about one of the Brewers top 100 prospects+ a couple others. Maybe a top 100+a SPer. Is that worth a 2 months rental?
  11. I think a better question is... can this Brewers team win in the post-season. It's tougher to put multiple hits together. The 4 runs we scored off Skenes is...exceptionally rare. So do we have enough punch to beat the top pitching? I think if you get Chourio, Yely, Contreras, Hoskins OR Vaughn stays hot and then just have Frelick, Turang, Durbin, even Ortiz who is playing well, just keep doing their thing, tough PAs, grinding out ABs, I think so. If you add one of the top 10-15 hitters in the game the last year... that REALLY fills out your lineup.
  12. Yeah, these guys are still scouted and scouted even more before the deadline. It's not like they all have comprehensive scouting reports on each player. A couple doubles in the gap aren't going to change his value, but his bat speed and exit velocity, it could certainly help his value.
  13. I'm not saying he can play 3rd, I'm saying he should be able to handle 1st. His issue was less with fielding and more with throwing... as far as I saw. Also, the bar right now without Bauers is not high defensively.
  14. Well...I don't think they'd actually need to jerk around with it since Hoskins could just wait until the rosters expand. As for Bauers, I like him also. I think he's a little underrated. He was struggling, but for his role, a backup 1B who can play in the OF, a late inning defensive replacement and a guy with some pop, you can do much worse. No, I don't imagine they did... though I thought Vaughn would be awful and I didn't like that move. So perhaps Black just getting healthy will show us a little bit. This is a guy who WAS a top ~50 prospect not long ago. Great plate discipline, he had pretty good hands at 3B defensively. And he's got good speed. He's been terrible, but... there was something there. I'd like to see him play right away, but... it's kinda tough as the best lineup is Collins/Perkins/Chourio in the OF and then Vaughn and Yelly 1B/DH, but it's also better for the player to get PT right away.
  15. I don't think that's all. If that was all, he'd have given the Brewers a chance to match. They were already at...5.5 I believe. He got 7.5. Attanasio was upset he didn't get a chance to match. I think he wanted the money obviously, but I also think he thought it'd be easier in Chicago. If you can spend another 80M a year on payroll and get a top 5-6 hitter in the game... it is easier. And that's fine for ANYONE else who hadn't been preaching how Milwaukee is home since his playing days. If it was just cash, he'd have at least let the Brewers match. I'm more than happy with Murphy, I'm a bit unsure about Weeks or if the plan is still for Weeks to take over in a couple years(though I loved Rickie as a player, the intensity and toughness). But I still don't like how CC.
  16. .... you realize that wasn't a prediction, right? I'd also place the BA as the 3rd most important of that slash line. If he has a .240 BA and he gets On-base, I don't care. I don't actually think he's going to be up all that long and I don't think BA is as important of a number as I think you're suggesting or Frelick and Turang would have been in the ASG as guys hitting around .280 and being elite defenders.
  17. The Nationals are looking to add an ace to team with Gore, certainly not looking to deal one. He's not been near the pitcher Quintana has been in his career and he's been bad in the post-season. Why are we thinking this guy is going to be our #2 starting pticher when he comes back from missing almost the whole season. I also do not get the logic of moving Misiorowski to the pen. I get why you didn't go back to him on regular rest coming off the ASB. Give him time... manage his innings, but he's the type of guy you start in the post-season. Moving him to BP at this point...in favorof Cortes is an odd call. I'd slot Cortes behind Peralta, Misii, Woodruff, Priester, Henderson maybe to the pen, but you still have Myers who is adding some velo. he could have an impact. Cortes eating some innings at this point would be a bous, but the #2 starter?
  18. Yeah... clearly! They're not pressing. They didn't throw Misiorowski because they had the Dodgers. They didn't throw Woodruff because they could, and it would have been on 5 days' rest. They're playing conservatively, and they're winning. They're letting Mis get rest, Woodruff get stronger. There were a lot of people talking about how Chourio started slow last year, Yelich was struggling, Contreras(he's still struggling,) and we'd be getting pitching back. I think those people were saying that's why we could make a WC push, or if the Cubs fell off, maybe a push in the division, but this organization is just rolling and the reinforcements came, we've had good health otherwise save for a couple smaller issues. We now have the Ms. A team that just beat the Tigers 3 in a row and 2 of 3 vs Houston and we have Woodruff, Misiorowski and Priester going. I'm feeling pretty good about those 3. As to your Poll, I'm thinking this year is as good a chance as any, but I'm also dreaming about 2026 and 2027. It's gonna click. If Tyler Black comes up and hits ~.280/.380/.400, then... it's just our year! Go get antoher dominant BP arm, O'Hearn and win this thing!
  19. Coming into this Month, I would have thought just... go .500 and that's a very good month. They've gone through the tough part of the schedule, 9 games to go and have 12 wins. (In fairness, they do have one of the hottest teams next and then the team we're tied with for the best record, so...still a tough schedule). This may be the most fun I've had watching Brewers Baseball in a WHILE.
  20. I still think Black can be a very productive big league player. It's been a nightmare season for him though and it's a bit of an odd place to bring him up without some other plan. Turang to SS, Collins to 2B, LF, Yellich and Black until Frelick gets back. But Collins is one of the key players on this team. Cubs fans melting down, talking about how the Brewers are "satanic" and "ruining the game" for everyone else by making it "harder and uglier," is...absolutely beautiful. One of the players doing that is Collins. I actually have a degree of confidence in Bauers, so I hope he gets healthy, gets some ABs in Nashville, and is back for Nov. His glove at 1B is great in a game like today. I don't know, the Brewers can do no wrong right now. Yuniesky Betancourt has been out of the league for...at least 10 years and probably should have been out 10 years before that...and if they signed him and brought him in, he'd probably have a couple huge game changing ABs the first week!
  21. I think that's a bit of a reach. Collins has been outstanding this year. I think it's most likely Bauers is just... hurt. Today was a good example of a game you'd want him in. He's a very good defensive 1B and I think he makes that play. But he's struggling. Maybe it's just due to injury. I just have no confidence in Vaughn, and he just KEEPS proving me wrong. Over and over. I think without Vaughn, we're 7-3 in our last 10. I don't know if that is hyperbole. He's been so clutch. The only question now is what the hell do you do with him when Hoskins gets back? Try to make it to Sept so you can keep both of them?
  22. We were absolutely terrible. I just think back from...the late 90s when I was in school ordering those Baseball America prospect handbooks and... we were always pinning our hopes on the draft and the draft alone. Mark Rogers or JM Gold whoever it was. Neugebauer, Sheets and Gold were all prospects at once(maybe...Gold may have flamed out by then). But that was it. Very little international FAs. Even up until we paid 3M or whatever it was for Gilbert Lara. It cost us the next 2 years, our bonus pools. We could sign players, but a crude analogy would be like how you can only spend 150K on players drafted Rd 11-20. You were capped to a low number. That was...2016 maybe 2017. So even Stearns didn't really get to see the fruits of his labor. Had he stuck around...would he be doing better than Arnold, worse? I dont' know and I don't care. The only guy I harbor ill-will toward(and not genuine ill-will, just...not a fan anymore) is CC. I don't expect you to sacrifice your once chance to make money to stay in Milwaukee. I DO think being in the Brewers clubhouse at 9, having the team willing to make you the highest paid manager, not giving them a chance to match, I think he just quit on the team. Didn't think we could win. Wanted to go to a place they'd trade for Kyle Tucker. and that's what's going to make running them down when they have the best record in the league all the sweeter. One correction, when I said " I'd meant to say, you can't do that by luck. It's different people working with these kids. It's an organizational philosophy and it's remarkable. I may just be repeating something I saw in this thread, but I just saw it, but someone said GMs make trades and they've never seen the player play. They TRUST their scouts. Well...to give up the 33rd pick, Yophery and a solid young(ish) pitcher, you have to trust your guys you can get Priester right. It's an ENTIRE organization all pulling in the right direction and trusting the people they work with. Oh, and one more thing; Remember Jeff Suppan? Kyle Lohse(cost us a 1st rd pick?) Braden Looper? Mark Attanasio wanted to win badly and he paid to acquire those guys and they were not good. He's since stayed out of it. Even the Hader trade that SOO many blamed on Attanasio, he didn't know about that trade until the two teams agreed to it and just needed approval from ownership and I don't think he liked it. I think it was one of those Steinbrenner, "you better know what you're doing here," type moves. He caught the heat...now we've got a catcher who is one of the most valuable at the position in the league. Even in the midst of a down year. So he's become a better owner. And AGAIN, he said there wasn't a trade the Brewers couldn't make when the Soto trade took place. there wasn't a player available they couldn't make room for, there wasn't a PACKAGE of players they couldn't afford and he was talking about the following year as well. Even this year, I was never really worried about this team. I never thought we'd be sitting here, a game away from sweeping the Dodgers, but I thought they could contend for the division in May. I just felt like they'd get back into it. Maybe foolishly so, blind faith, but the front office has engendered that type of confidence.
  23. No, realistically, a team is ALMOST certainly not trading a superstar position player for 3 good but not great young arms. Though...Luka happened. Betts happened. Devers. And I'm sure I'll hear why Witt or a few dozen other players don't count, but then don't make absolute statements. It's unlikely a team would offer enough to make a trade in which we give up three young, controllable arms. But we'd never do it? Never? 😕
  24. Of course they would for the right player...and I can think of a dozen players that they'd do this for. You're talking about #3/4 starters. And that's valuable obviously. You'd still have Myers who is right in that group of pitchers, you still have Gasser, Misiorowski, Peralta, you have Quintana and Cortes the rest of this year and then you have guys like Hardin and others coming up. Bobby Witt Jr? In a heartbeat, don't care about the salary. Trade him in a few years if one of our SS's becomes a star. Ceddanne Rafaela, Junior Caminero, Yordan Alvarez...Acuna Jr. There are numerous players we'd happily give up 3 solid pitchers for. That's just a few position players, but how about Paul Skenes. I'll take 1 Paul Skenes over 3 good but not great players. James Woods didn't pop to my mind, nor did PCA, both of whom I'd take(the later is the best defender in the OF I've seen since Jones and probably better and he's hitting for power). Jackson Holliday. I'm not including more obvious players like Gunnar Henderson for instance as he's "only" got 3 more years left, but he'd really be a pretty easy call also. Oh, and Ohtani. For 2M a year? The Brewers would probably make 50M a year on that deal, get an elite #3/4 left handed power hitter, MVP, and get a top of the rotation arm! What better time to try and negotiate a new TV deal than with Ohtani, Misi, Chourio, and ALL the rest of the guys they have coming up! But it's silly because... nobody is going to offer those types of players. So what you're saying is the Brewers aren't going to empty their pitching depth for...most available players I guess? I don't know, you kinda back yourself into a bad argument when you say the is no "best possible player," the Brewers would trade for those three starting pitchers.
  25. Yeah, at least Sixto keeps posting on here and keeps it negative, but... brewer888 is just gone.
