Jose Ramirez... yeah, I'd want that. Skenes...not for Misiorowski and honestly, the Pirates are SO loaded with young power arms that they could reasonably contend, so just from a Baseball perspective, the next 2-3 years, you'd THINK you'd really go for it. They won't, either Nutting will just not spend or, something will happen and someone will get hurt, but they could have one of those rotations with 4 potential aces plus the top pitcher in the game. Skenes, Bubba Chandler, Jared Jones, and then a couple more top 5 prospects. I think Ashcraft may still become a starter. If I'm the Pirates, I'd probably want, Made, Pratt, Quero, Logan Henderson, Adams and then still a couple more. This would be more than the Soto deal...IMO. I DO agree with either making a substantial move or standing still mostly. But...not THAT substantial. Take the guys you likely won't bring back, MiLB FAs or guys you don't think you'll protect and use them.

Feels like citing Medical Journals as evidence WOULD be more approved by a debate coach than 'trust be me bro... I think Will Salmons wrote about it a couple years ago. Dr who has dealt with Type 1 Diabetes for 40 years... on the panel talking about the difficulties. I'm guessing he's wrong. Yeah, that's after an unprecedented move and a player of his caliber being waived. And I'm sure at this point he's happier, but he also had said if there was one player he'd like to play with, it'd be Giannis prior to that. Though... if he says he was unhappy, I guess it doesn't really matter at this point. That's true...I had to live in Chicago and Milwaukee at different points. What I didn't have when I lived there was...hundreds of millions for a driver, a nice house in Mequon or wherever and a job where I was driven from door to door. It's not like Portland was a tropical paradise... but Miami is certainly different for a young black man.

I mean...I just think it's kinda nit picking. He's elite, but just not the elite of the elite this year.... in a smaller sample size. Also, it's not like if he becomes worth 7 WAR vs 6 WAR equals one more literal win. The Brewers had ~26 WAR last year, we won 93 games. The highest ever? The famed '27 Yankees. I guess I just look at this as something that will normalize. Some SBs in which they made bad throws? That usually happens with good base runners. I'd like to see all the times he was thrown out, the throws on those. I'd guess he had some good jumps and they were great throws. Also, if memory serves, he's had a couple that were bang bang plays and could have gone either way, but there wasn't enough to overturn them. But, as I said...I understand. They're trying to create content... there's not a whole lot to look at with Turang. I also can't believe it's the result of Berry. Stealing bases can be taught. I don't think it need be re-taught year after year and most of it is instinctual. I'd not be surprised if Turang stole the next 20 bags without getting caught. Baseball works like that. As of now, the only thing I really want to see from Turang...is a contract extension...but I generally want that for every good young player. And now he's on pace to have 10WAR over his last two years, likely not in the cards, but worth making an offer. Even with Made, Pena, Pratt, etc...

When do we talk about a Misiorowski extension?
BrewerFan replied to BrewerFan's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
There was actually an article after the 2023 season where Jouranal Sentinal Curt Hogg specifically says he IS interested in a contract extension. As for "being naive," and him signing a 2M+ signing bonus or not "some kid looking to pay off his folks' mortgage," I couldn't possibly speak to him paying off the mortgage, Why do YOU suppose he's "not some kid," who would be looking to do that? I certainly would have at 19-20. What is it about him that makes you so confident to make that statement? Not just a guess, but a statement? Now, as it pertains to his signing bonus after taxes(which would have been ~45%) then the 4-5% the average MLB agent takes and he's made 1M dollars. That's really...not a lot of money. So no, I don't think it's "naive" to suggest he may be receptive to an extension that would create generational wealth and still give him plenty of time after that to earn money. Ok. I'm not entirely sure what your point is. I mean, I would "bet" they address the GTD money and years FIRST, then talk about signing bonuses(money up front, always more valuable than money on the backend) and then incentives... but ok. I'm not sure how that changes anything. Right. I don't think I suggested the player has no say in the matter. I think I laid out the pros and cons for both sides and said.... it's time to TALK about an extension for Misiorowski. It seems rather obvious the earlier you approach them, the more likely they are to be open to an extension. I don't know that these deals are "increasingly rare," they seem more dependent on the team... and player... Edit-My ENTIRE point... they should try. Something they didn't do with Burnes or Woodruff...or Hader but they did with Peralta and Ashby. Also, if you want to talk about rare, not many guys got 80M before playing an MLB game. So... the worst he can do is shut you down...and you still have him for 6.5 years. If he says yes... all the better. -

Here we go! Now's the time to strike. 3.20 ERA. Is the guy even that good? We'd be doing HIM a favor! -

Yeah, Payne has a to of upside. He's not Jay Buhner out there, but he has a frame that could add a lot more power, he's been a solid player thus far, but he hasn't scratched the surface. He COULD easily end up the next Turang, Frelick type, he could end up...an Anthony Gwynn Jr type of player, but the upside is 20HRs and an elite Defensive CF. He's not even 19 and holding his own in A ball. I also found the "impossible" Made is 18 comment to be comical! as well as the "worst talent in 5 or 6 years," in A ball to...be just as silly. I don't know if that was the Carolina League as a whole of the Biloxi team, but... it doesn't matter. -
Edit-To be clear, I don't think anyone's under the impression that Garrett Mitchell has type1, not type 2 diabetes. Knowing what he could eat for years does not mean the disease doesn't make you more likely to suffer or take longer to recover from other types of injuries. I also never read this Will Salmon article, but I assure you, I didn't just wing it and guess on this. They've done studies and have found a correlation to slower healing, higher risk for injury, lower bone density, inflation....etc... So again, not just guessing, just going off what medically accepted consensus seems to be. -Tendinopathy is a general term for a tendon disorder characterized by pain, swelling, stiffness, and impaired function, often caused by acute injury or chronic overuse. Seems like that COULD be a problem for a professional athlete, no? Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine Next, recovery time; journals.lww.com. There's a WHOLE lot more information on this, but I'm not just guessing and throwing a dart into the black and coming up with this conclusion on my own. Also, impacts bone density. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. This doesn't mean he can't have success as a Major League player, but it does certainly SEEM like there is ample evidence that he's MORE likely to struggle with injuries. But, if you DON'T think his injury is at any more risk due to being a T1 Diabetic, then... I'm not sure why you think the Brewers "are NOT paying him 2M to bring him back next year?" It would seem to be even more obvious to bring him back under those circumstances.
-
Maybe he gets bought out? I think he's lost a lot of value.
-
Did he really want to go to Miami or were they just the only competitive team at the time that was interested and had the assets? I don't think he was upset about coming to Milwaukee... but I can't say for sure. I do think being able to pick a team without worrying about a contract, he'll take his time and look at which team he can help out the most among those close to a title. Hell, maybe it ends up being the Spurs? Maybe he signs for the minimum with OKC.... but being a Oakland guy...I'm thinking he'd prefer Cali and Golden State can't play him and Steph. Also, I don't think LeBron is retiring. That man is a freak and he's still a top ~10 player. He's taking a smaller role, but he just played 70 games, ~35 minutes a game, he put up...nearly 25/8/8 and was pretty efficient. He could go downhill quickly... bu we've been saying that fo ra while. I think he'll play 2-3 more years, especially given Rich Paul's statement about LeBron knowing the Lakers are in a precarious position, trying to build now, but also trying to still win champshipS while LeBron is still playing. The Celtics make a lot of sense as well...if he wants to play on the East Coast. By the time he's back, they'll have Tatum back. Tatum, Brown, White and then whoever is left.
-
This is just searching too hard. Brice Turang... .~.290/.360 he's not a power hitter, but he's hitting for some. And we're nit picking his Base Running...which is in the 81st percentile per Baseball Savant down from the 98th? If he's thrown out like 3 fewer times...is this any issue now? Good base runners force bad throws. Most catchers try and rush it and they don't make the best throws every time. Conversely, sometimes they make great throws. I get it, you're trying to come up with things to write about, but... this is EXACTLY who I hoped Brice Turang would be. I've been saying since AA, I thought he could be a Trea Turner-lite type of player. He's becoming that(better defense, less power). On pace for 6+ War. We're at the bottom of the barrel.
-
LAL...it'll be a Payton/Karl Malone type finish. Or...maybe more of a Ray Allen type one. They need shooters, but he'll have to adjust to being less ball dominant(should be easier having played with Giannis). More of a catch and shoot guy at his age with a blown Achilles.
-
I mean, that could happen to any surgery. I don't think that's super rare. It's just the diabetes makes you more susceptible to injury and slower to recover from injury. So even if you were assured he'd never have shoulder problems again, sadly...it's likely to be something else.

2025 Major Publication Prospect Rankings
BrewerFan replied to sveumrules's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
No possible way? (I'm glad you explained your very obvious statement). You realize MLB has REALLY ramped up their investigations of these young players and the Brewers have an academy down there and they were in on Made when he was 14, right? Made can definitely stick at SS and if he doesn't, 3B would be more likely...the most likely reason he wouldn't is because Pratt is ahead of him and may be entrenched. Pena can play 2B, 3B or SS. If they couldn't, the Brewers wouldn't just keep them "on the dirt," because of "perceived value." 4-Bitonti has been moved because they had a logjam there. He's got the tools to be an exceptional 1B and he's got massive power. As with many guys with long levers like him, it takes a little time to get more consistent contact, but he hits for a LOT of power right now. 5-Ok. I mean, they took one of the youngest players in the class... but Tommy White? A 3B who can't play 3B...and you're talking about Bitonti, a 3B who was a better 3B than White, but moved due to SO many players ahead of him? White will end up at 1B. We got Burke out of that class. Burke's a better hitter than White already. You just listed a bunch of guys who were ~4 years older than Payne and are performing better this year as a result, but the hyperbole is.... off the charts. I know Payne has the "mechanics of a softball slapper," but he's 6'2, thing, will add weight, draws a lot of walks and has elite speed and is a plus defender in CF. CFers who can get on base and play very good defense are generally pretty valuable... though if you're just looking back 3 months into their first full season, it'll probably be the case that the more advanced College bats are putting up better numbers. I guess we'll have to see 3-4 years from now if you're right or if the numerous scouts are right...and just have to wait for the inevitable Made age controversy to come out as... there's absolutely no chance he's 18(why....who knows, just can't be I guess). -
2025 Major Publication Prospect Rankings
BrewerFan replied to sveumrules's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
This is old, but it shows Luke Adams down 6 spots and he's ranked 7th? That's a mistake, right? I've never seen him higher than he is right now. A month laster and I wonder what they'd say about Hardin or a couple other guys. Again, just the deepest and most well rounded I've ever seen a Brewers system since I was ordering those Baseball America Prospect books in the "olden" days of ~2000. The #1 ranked farm system with Weeks, Prince...Hardy, Hart, that was heavy on the top end, but didn't have nearly as many guys who COULD come up and be very good players and they didn't have the pitching. We'll graduate Mis and maybe Henderson off the list before next year and add a lot of draft picks, so.... I'd be very surprised if this isn't a top...3 system. 4 guys with a CHANCE to be top 25 in Made, Pena, Pratt and Quero(he'd have to finish strong in the 2nd half). -
Of course they'd have been better off if Dame hadn't gotten hurt. I really like Turner... but it also doesn't seem like Doc was going to play the rotation that I think would make the most sense in that scenario. He loves his vets. To that point, they've rescinded the qualifying offer to Ryan Rollins and signed Gary Harris, another player we'd been connected to(and would have been a nice pickup as a option off the bench) in past year. I don't like rescinding that offer to Rollins. He's 22(or just 23) years old and... just feels like the type of player who won't became a star by any means, but could be a really nice rotational player. He could defend, shoot the 3. Basically what Harris has been in the past. I'm guessing Andre Jackson Jr is going to be on his way out at some point. Doc just doesn't play young players... which in his case is frustrating because as ugly as his game may be, he's a guy who gets you extra possessions, he hit corner 3s. He's a pretty nice passer. Can't dribble and has no other offensive game, but I think he's a guy who helps you win game. But, here's to hoping Harris can have a resurgence in the 2nd half of the year.

Well...maybe this allows you to do that more. Perhaps they put Contreras on the DL to get him healthy since he seems like he could use 10 days of just...not jamming that finger. Or you could DH him a couple more times and have a backup catcher still ready to take over. Should have read your post first @jay87shot!!

No...I don't think anyone suggested they would. Not much...which is why I said ~2M. He's making ~800K this year. How strong of an argument do you think you need to make to get 2M? 3.6 WAR his first 3 years seems like a strong enough argument. He could argue that Andrew Vaughn got 3.25 in his first year of arbitration despite a 1.3 WAR. Or Micky Moniak, another OF got 2M in his first year despite a .3 WAR. Or he could use Keston Hiura who got 2.2M to spend the year in AAA or Luke Voit who got roughly the same, both in their first years of arbitration, Rowdy Tellez who got ~2M and had a negative WAR through his first year in arbitration. I'm not particularly interested in getting overly pedantic, I simply said I'd bring him back one more year...and if he stayed healthy for a full year and performed over a full year as he has over partial years, I'd trade him as I don't trust him to do so regularly in his career, but to point a finer point on it, I think it's worth bringing him back given the relatively low-price tag. I hadn't made a hypothetical arbitration case for his arbitration hearing, just going off a rough number for a 1st year player eligible for arbitration who has performed pretty well combined with very poor availability. Just taking a low first year arbitration number and putting a round number to it. Sure...his value is upside and affordability. I think 2M is affordable and in line with his production and it doesn't feel like many people believe the Brewers are pinching pennies quite to that degree just yet that they'd risk non-tendering him in the hopes of getting him for near the vet minimum. So....1.5M, 2M...whatever the exact number is, he'll still have the affordability and upside.
-
Martinez is not an MLB caliber CFer. I don't even think he's a Corner OFer except in a pinch. He's started 9 career MiLB games in his career. He's a big guy who looks pretty good at 1st, but he's a 1B/DH only. His bat will have to carry him. I hope he hits well enough to get a shot... I don't think he's an upgrade over Bauers...though he is cheaper.
-
I'm keeping him another year...how much will he get heading into arbitration? 2M? That's worth taking a flier on for another year... but if he manages to have a....Luis Robert type season and stays healthy and puts up a great season in CF with an 800 OPS, I wouldn't hesitate to deal him. There's a difference between...say Brock Wilken and Mitchell. One has had fluke injuries, I think the other will deal with them his whole career.
-
Yeah, he said a lot of great things about playing with Giannis. He's a top 75 player of all-time who was overly loyal to Portland, went to the best possible fit for him on paper and then played poorly by his standards in Yr1 and in Yr2, he was fine, the Bucks just really needed that reliable 3rd threat and they didn't have it. The short time they had the kinda "big 4" on the court, the Bucks were a dominant team. Dame/Giannis/Middleton was +18.5 and +16 without Lopez. That was based on 600 minutes together, but we all know how that went. They needed a fluke season of good health and couldn't get that. I'm kinda torn as we probably should be trading Giannis, but the East is so wide open, it's really hard to blame the team trying to win and keep a player and person like him in Milwaukee his entire career. However, if he does decide he wants to leave, I can't imagine Turner would have hard to move at ~26M AAV and teams will still lineup for Giannis. I don't think Giannis can do anything that would make me too upset as a Bucks fan at this point. I'd totally understand asking out and I'd love the guy if he stayed in Milwaukee and played until he was 40... 2021 was something I never thought I'd see. Maybe I've got a lower bar than others.
-
Yeah, I remember that... it seemed like it was mostly Heat fans and they were reading his body language from being picked up at the airport. I didn't see anything from him...and even now it seems like it's just about him being able to sign with whoever he wants, doesn't have to worry about getting paid. I love Giannis, but...I'm confused how he can be upset about THAT. Dame is going to be 37 when he's back on the floor. I thought Turner had signed an extension with the Pacers, but the Bucks had been tied to him for years. Insofar as the Bucks should remain competitive, it's about as good of a signing as I could have hoped for from them. The Bucks are still missing their...Middleton or whoever. I wonder if Portis may be shipped out, hopefully with Kuzma for a scorer(Though who the hell is gonna want that combo for a legit #2). Still...good start to the off-season.
-
Well...of course, but given he had no GTD money left on his deal, I don't find it that had to believe... maybe it was similar to what Jones got from the Vikings(that's what he ended up signing for). I would guess given the position and the player, it'd be more. I don't think Jones leaves last year if the Packers don't sign Jacobs...so following that logic, I tend to believe they would have made more of an effort to keep Jaire. I thought 10M and incentives would make it worth it to the Packers. I definitely believe he took less to play for Baltimore but I don't know how much less. Either way, it's over so... if his Dad was lying or not, I don't know. I'd probably not want to sign and listen to bad information coming out and it's not like it came from the Packers. It was always pretty vague on their end.
-
There are plenty of guys who've gotten 6-7 or even a couple guys got 8 years with a RS, Olympic RS and Medical...plus Covid. Based on some of the medical RS's I've seen granted in other sports, unless he was injured late in the year, I'd guess he'd get it. If he got hurt early on, first half, he'd almost definitely get it.
-
60 grade bat, 6'2 185... probably more power in there and a future CF, maybe 2B. I wonder if you can get him much below slot, but sure. More 60 grade bats, the better. At 68, it's almost gotta be a guy in the ~150 range(or even later) that the Brewers have a firm(ish) price on heading into the draft, no? A Pratt, a Bitonti, a Letson, a couple 3B, an Adamczewski... 2023 was about as nice of a draft as you could have had. Levonas signing in '24 would have made that 2-year run that much more impressive.
