It's a tough stretch, but given who we knew was going to be on the schedule, I think it's about as balanced as they could have hoped for. I'd have liked to get Chicago before week 11 though.

I think you're underestimating Goff. over 9K passing yards, 59TDs(+4 in the NFCCG run last year) over the last two years. He's just 29-years-old and that's just the going rate for a really good starting QB. He may not be top 5, but I think he's top 10 and I don't think the 4 years is a huge threat. He'll be 33 when they'll either extend him again or move on. Those are the prime years for a QB. And they won't have to shed Sewell or St. Brown. They have both locked up to contract extensions already and Detroit's cap looks pretty clean. They still have 30M in space this year and a projected 70M under for '25. If you don't like Goff's...I'm gonna guess you're not gonna like the number Love comes in at! I think there's a good chance he's the highest-paid player going into this season.

Time to seek an Adames trade?
BrewerFan replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
.296 .397 .561 .958 ROY-type numbers when combined with his defense at 3rd. Obviously there are a couple of Japanese pitchers who will make that a long shot, but what a start for him. -
Nobody "keeps asking about it," and the policing of what you can talk about is really obnoxious. We're fans talking about a hypothetical. That's ALL it ever is since nobody on here actually has a say. And the question was if the Brewers had talked to him about a contract extension and "if I had to read between the lines...." At the end of last year, he was apparently interested per the MJS and Curt Hogg. Either way, I'm not seeing anyone still talking about a long term extension and more about buying out the last 3 years when you decided to scold us for talking about it; https://subscribe.jsonline.com/restricted?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.jsonline.com%2Fstory%2Fsports%2Fmlb%2Fbrewers%2F2023%2F09%2F07%2Fbrewers-william-contreras-an-offseason-bargain-now-is-milwaukee-mvp%2F70767219007%2F&gps-source=CPROADBLOCKDH

The first paragraph is just a lot of you explaining why you're right about past discussions. The second is you really contradicting those past arguments by sayin' 'well, could make 50, but taking 30 wouldn't be a terrible idea.' So taking 100M in an extension that buys out a couple FA deals, there's NO reason for a catcher to do that because all it takes a pulse and he'll be making money, but there's plenty of reason for him to give up money the next 3 years because you have to measure the risk/reward? Kinda seems like it's one or the other. They both follow the same logic.
-
Didn't we think he was asking for that before this extension? 5/250 was pretty much the floor. David Mulugheta will almost certainly argue for him to be the highest-paid...and they'll have to settle on a deal somewhere in the middle(or maybe not...it's possible Love does become the highest-paid). He's next up. Highest paid and not always synonymous. Dak, Watson...Goff is good, he's not top 4 IMO. The Packers are probably going to want to make whatever that number, 5/250, 5/280...whatever it is, an extension rather than ripping up the final year. That at least affords them the ability to mitigate the cap hit for now and keep restructuring it and it gives Love some leverage.

A Way Too Early 2024 MLB Draft Thread
BrewerFan replied to Joseph Zarr's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
I'd like to see them take the 17 year old high ceiling arm in Caminiti. They can go to the College OF well later on. I also love the young OFers we have, both on the team and on the way. Always add more, but true TOR arms, that's what I'd do. I Bigger risk...but bigger reward. -
Yeah, Edey isn't all that skilled and Jokic is more athletic than given talent for. Tyler Smith is a guy I've seen to the Bucks a lot. He looks interesting. They can't just forgo taking any shots at finding a star because they're looking for an immediate impact. So from what I've heard of Smith, he would work. Holmes would be interesting. Yves Missi from Baylor has been mocked to the Bucks. I wonder if the Bucks did get one of those guys and then Oso is available in the 2nd? Do you take him? Lets say, hypothetically, both Marquette players are on the board. Do we want the PG who can distribute and I think stand in there and play competent D, or the athletic big who's got a limited offensive game, but is pretty versatile? Or...who cares because there WILL be some backup vet who is playing substantially worse next post-season and the young player will get the AJJ, Jevon Carter treatment anyway? This off-season needs to really break right for the Bucks...followed by next season, the playoffs, etc...the window's not closed. Grandpa's sneaking a smoke in the back and it's open juuust a crack yet. Hopefully we can pry it open the rest of the way.

Time to seek an Adames trade?
BrewerFan replied to Scooterfletcher's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Well...hypothetically, if you can get Bobby Miller and Emmett Emmet Sheehan, you make the trade anytime. That's 2/5ths of a good MLB rotation and very possibly a future ace. The Dodgers are probably not going to do that, so for the players that are more likely on the table, I'd have to say...pass. -
Andy Herman is as good of a Packers analyst as there is IMO. Bob McGinn gives you a lot of interesting background on players, what others think about them, etc...but Andy does his own scouting, watches the All-22 and I think he understands the game a lot. Mike Wahle is great at talking about OL.

I don't think the Packers took him because other teams(the Steelers) were planning on drafting him(which may just mean he was among a group of players they were looking at). It seems extremely unlikely the Packers would take their 150th-ranked player 91st because another team liked him. I think he was probably their pick either way and then we just heard other teams ALSO liked him and...it's not much deeper than that. I also think we put too much stock on "the big board." The Eagles draft the closest to the "consensus big board," than any other team in the first 3-4 rounds and...go back and look at their drafts. They're not as good as you'd think. They do a great job of trading and acquiring more picks...which is how they got Jevon Carter for example, but they're not just winning on the strength of their scouting department in early rounds. They used a first on Dillard, on Jalen Reagor OVER Justin Jefferson(which caused the Vikings to erupt in celebration). Nolan Smith was the steal of the draft last year, the other LB from Georgia when we took Quay who fell to the 3rd rd, he was the steal the year before. Jordan Davis was hailed as a great pick. They have a lot of talent, but I don't think it's because of their hit rate on 1sts. I'm not dumping on the Eagles because I don't think it matters if you miss on your 1st and then you find a PB LT in the 7th, you still have a PB left tackle, but I think it's just one example of how the big board is kinda meaningless, and then I just would reiterate how strongly I DO NOT believe the Packers would take a guy at 93 who

I'm just going to agree to disagree with you. I think Lopez gets scapegoated like he's supposed to be a 7'1 rim protector who can score in the paint, shoot the three AND defend in space? That's asking WAY too much. You stop the ball, Lopez is still fine. and I'm still taking Lopez next to Giannis over Capella. People also said Gobert was unplayable in the post-season for years in Utah. We got Andre Jackson Jr, Beauchamp to stop the ball...then didn't use them. Far bigger problem than Lopez and the difference between he and Capella.

It wouldn't be a great thing. He's a starting pitcher. He started for like 3 weeks. Why would we give up on him? At the same time, why would this require us to trade Peguero for "future lottery tickets?" I'd maybe make him a long man since he hasn't pitched a full season yet, but the last thing I'd do is make him a 1-inning reliever this quickly. Why go back to the 27th? As of the 29th, it was .757 as of today, it's .741 and an OPS+ of 111. Also...if his production as a catcher isn't up to par, why would we use Wiemer in that role instead? He needs to be in AAA...and I'm as big a fan of Wiemer as anyone, but he's not ready, he needs regular ABs and he looks much like Turang did late last summer. Sanchez is fine. Be happy you've got a competent backup Catcher. I suspect if Willy would sign for 20M a year, we'd sign him. It just doesn't make sense to trade your SS when you're trying to win. You take a strength and turn it into a weakness. Take the comp pick and play it out. Seems like they've made the decision on Wilson, they're going to stretch him out. Also feels like they've made the decision on Hudson. He's going to pitch a couple innings at a time out of the pen. Black, Boeve...we've got a lot of them. Try and make a deal with the Marlins. You don't ever trade a guy like Tyler Black if you think he's a left handed Molitor though...that's one of the best pure hitters EVER...but not from the left side. So no, no pitcher that will be available would be worth it. Hell, you extend Black if you believe that to be the case. See how teams feel about Yophery or Lara...I don't know, a trade for one of the Marlins arms makes the most sense. We'll see if they do it.

I'm a bit skeptical of the stories. 1-I think he wanted AG. I don't think he specifically didn't want Nurse...though that story is the most reported. Maybe it's just because he viewed Nurse as more of a rival if so? That'd be a dumb reasons. 2-Don't buy the Atkinson one at all. Doc was already helping out in Milwaukee. He was the obvious...albeit bad- choice. I definitely don't mind a new voice though. Someone who's going to say "we're drafting this 19-year-old Tyler Smith, he may take a little while to develop, but at least he has a chance to be an impact player. This is really it. You don't need a Kawhi, but you need a really good player at #22...and that's rare. But, it is what it is. It is a relief that Dame and Giannis both immediately quelled any doubts about their future and talked about having to be better. Especially Dame who said something like last off-season was the worst he ever had, he didn't want to play too much as that could have led to an injury, now he can't get traded and promised to come back in the best shape of his life. There's still a scenario where those guys play ~65 games(all 3) and they're healthy for the playoffs and Doc plays the young guys more and we've got another run in us. It's not a great one. It's unlikely Middleton will play as well with Dame and Giannis as he did this year, but...what's the alternative? Shut this thread down and give up on the Bucks?
-
They can't make this trade unless I'm mistaken. Over the 2nd apron, you can't add players together and can't take more back in trades. I also just reject the idea that Lopez was or is the problem. When you have Giannis out there with Lopez, the defenese is fine. Lopez is just not the problem. If they can deal him and find a way to get better, great, but Clint Capella isn't it. That trade doesn't make the Bucks better. The Bucks playing and developing their own young players is a far bigger issue. A 7'1 Center who can hit the 3 and who can score around the basket...he's not the problem because he can't defend on the perimeter. And again, a lineup of say Dame/Jackson Jr/Middleton/Giannis/Lopez, that's a lineup that can score well enough. A 2nd unit of Pat Bev/Beasly/Beauchamp/Connaughton/Portis was good enough. Tyler Smith from the G League, a 6'11 long defender who can shoot the 3, but doesn't like to, but can defend, he's the projected pick at #22, Hunter Sallis, a 6'5 guard who's a sharp shooter, ball handler...that's the type of player they need to go after. A big, not to replace Lopez, but to work in so he can take over and learn from Lopez and a ball handling Guard who can at least try and defend and get the ball moving. Giannis came out and STRONGLY...expressed his desire and commitment to Milwaukee and seemed a bit annoyed to be asked again. But I think the Bucks have ONE more year. Run it back, lean on the young guys more, HOPE that the big 4 older guys can stay healthy and I think that's your last run-unless you make a deep and real run or unless one of these guys steps in and they're Desmond Bane or both contribute or are ALLOWED to contribute right away. Trade Portis and Connaughton, but you're not going to get much back IMO. Trading Lopez is hurting your team in virtually every scenario. Lopez can't play without Giannis, but we can't win without him anyway, so...gotta run it back with him. There's no 1 for 1 trade for a cheaper player that'll make us better.

Has it been? I don't know that to be the case. Andre Jackson Jr has looked like an absolute STEAL in the 2nd rd. He's everything PJ Tucker was, but a ball handler, good passer, facilitator, and mostly a WINNER. Under Bud, there was a trip to the finals in which Jevon Carter LEGITIMATELY may have turned the series, a 7 game series in which he was a HUGE + for the Bucks in favor of George Hill. Now, no team is winning in the playoffs without their top 2 players healthy. ONE game in NBA history when a team won with their top 2 scorers out(that was the Bucks gm5). You have Dame, Middleton(this version of Middleton was an outstanding #3 option) and Giannis. Giannis takes Siakam out of the game, but ignoring the fact he couldn't have played anyway, WHY ARE THE BUCKS THE WAY THEY ARE! You have young players who they just refuse to play. Beauchamp and Jackson Jr should be playing. I'm hopeful a full year with Doc they will play him more, but it's absolutely mind-blowing. I really think if AJJ plays, a guy who can defend Siakam and Haliburton at a competent level. Couple that with Pat Bev(his clownish behavior and all)...Portis, Beasley, a few minutes of Reed, see if he's playing well, a few of Beauchamp to just put pressure and wear down their PG, give the vets some time to rest...a MUCH better option than Dano, Connaughton, Crowder, etc... What is the reluctance? Edit- Hadn't seen @LouisEly posted this, but that's fluke stuff you can't help. Playing the guys who match up the best...that is. You get Giannis back(and it turns out they weren't)...and you magically get healthy vs Boston, you're going to get torn up again if you refuse to play AJJ/Beauchamp on Tatum or Brown. I do think this series goes 4-1 at best if the Bucks are healthy, but that's just the way things go.
-
I understood what he meant...I just don't think it's that big of a deal...especially in that context.
-
Seriously? He's not coaching Little League...(where really arguing with the ump, even if you're right is ridiculous). This is MLB... the ump was antagonistic, they're all adults. I don't think Murphy's behavior was "shameful."
-
If you refuse to play Jackson Jr....or even Beauchamp, what in the hell is the point of drafting young, athletic wings? Jevon Carter-Andre Jackson Jr...bench players can win games. The Bucks bench did NOTHING in this game and the Pacers bench did. We've got one more season, throw a couple darts, hope you find an impact player(and then playing him is kinda key)...and then the Bucks will just fade away and go into a 6-7 year purgatory with their picks all owed to other teams.
-
So Dame back, probably not Giannis for Gm6? That's fine. Need Dame to really facilitate, hit a few big shots obviously, take some pressure of Middleton...and then PatBev, AJJ, those guys need to play with that same energy as they did Gm5. Portis beating up on Siakam. Indy seems most likely to be tight with the prospect of a Gm7 in Milwaukee. Would still be...pretty damn surprised to see the Bucks moving on to Rd2, but I love the way they're battling.
-
I don't think the UMPs care about market size. I think there are going to be bad calls and when we benefit from them, we don't remember nearly as much. If there is an issue, it may be with the Brewers having cleared the benches 3 times this year. That would have played a bigger role in the over the top reaction and making the bad call with Peralta. It's also Tampa Bay. It's not like they've got a roaring fan base...
