  1. Totally different situations. There was no question he was trying to hit him. There was with Peralta. That was when Happ hit Contreras on a backswing, Mikolas was running his mouth, came back, threw up and in, missed, then threw up in and in again. I'd bet suspensions are reduced as often as they're not...or at least close to it.
  2. If ever? I don't think there's much question we'll see him again. I think this is now getting blown up out of proportion. The guy caused a fight. I think you send him down for a little while and have him work on his anger management issue, but this isn't that big of a deal. I'd say the Prince-Manny Parra thing was a bigger deal. He's the closer of the future. It was bad...it wasn't Wander Franco bad...
  3. Just that ONE possession. It was maddening. It felt like they got 6 resets, but whatever it was, it was a lot and it was infuriating. Just didn't have the size.
  4. Freedy's suspension is...mind boggling. This is the first I saw of it. I'm at a loss for words. I don't think Uribe was pitching himself down. He was pitching really well, then the Yankees meltdown...where he should have gotten out of it. But this feels like it's the Brewers kinda dealing out their own discipline. I don't mind players with an edge at all, I kinda like the fire this team plays with, but what Uribe did was so stupid, he's gonna cost the team, ala Portis, in a big spot. But I don't really see any crossover between Peralta and Uribe and not wanting them both suspended at once. Peralta's suspension IMO gets reduced and he maybe gets pushed back a day. Uribe's wasn't likely to.
  5. I got what you were saying...and it's not the same. The run defense is built around that big body in the 3-4, but you still do need that bigger run stuffer in the 4-3 even playing a 1-gap scheme. Remember, Gilbert Brown was our anchor or 1 Tech all those years we ran a 4-3. I agree with the rest of the roster, but not the DL. I think Slaton is not only a lock at this point, but he's also probably as likely as Clark to be re-signed. Maybe more likely because he's cheaper. Eh...it was good. Like I said, there were 2 on the whole list I didn't exactly agree with...but Melton can certainly be beat out. We didn't really see DuBose last year, yet he made the active roster. Heath, they clearly liked him quite a bit. So right there, you could easily argue they have good camps, Melton has a poor camp, and maybe he doesn't make the 53. I'm really curious to see what they do at QB. By the way, as of right now, just 25% of the salary cap is allocated to the offense. Someone pointed that out on Twitter, and while it's obvious when you think about it, that's a wild number given the expectations of this offense and how most teams spend. That'll change with a Love deal coming. I do wonder if the Packers decide to extend Clark or hold off. Next years class appears to be really good at DL and especially guys who can play that 1 tech, play the run and rush the passer. It's obviously kinda comically early to talk about, but I'm sure it's something the FO is at least considering.
  6. Can we just ignore the damn rule and still complain about it! God that's stupid! I suspect it was never intended for that type of situation...oh well.
  7. Well...if so, then I fundamentally do not understand that rule. I'm not confident enough to argue, but it's a stupid rule if that's right. 1-Incidental 2-Didn't impact the catcher 3-The catcher causes the contact by lunging forward trying to block it. But...I guess I'll take your word for it.
  8. What did Murphy say exactly? That ball was past the catcher when contact was made. The incidental contact did NOT obstruct the catcher from getting to it.
  9. ....No. They did not. They very clearly made the wrong call.
  10. I loved the draft. There's a few picks I didn't like. Last year I really wanted Darnell Washington and they drafted Tucker Kraft(both looked pretty good last year and Kraft didn't have the injury concerns). So I'll assume I'm wrong on those and right on the ones I liked! 1-#25-Morgan I did a mock and Had Morgan, Cooper and Bullard. To be fair, I did a lot of mocks, but I posted that one on Twitter. I also had them each one spot later, but I really love all three picks. The Packers have repeatedly said Rasheed Walker needs to take a big jump if he wants to be the future LT. Coming out of PSU, one of the concerns was his work ethic and his body. He has to put in the work. Jordan Morgan being drafted and both Gute and MLF saying he's going to play LT, that's going to either force Walker to EARN the job...and then Morgan plays RG, or Morgan beats him out and we get better at LT. That's a best-case scenario for me. I wanted to see the OL improved, I think they did that. The Packers seem really confident in their CBs. That was the other group I thought we'd jump on. Mitchell is a perfect fit in a heavy press man scheme, Arnold-I didn't really watch, but people was ranked ~10-15 on most boards. There was some disappointment we didn't move up once Fautanu and Mitchell hit 21, but the Packers had their pick in immediately after the Lions took Arnold. That suggests to me they like Morgan. I also liked Tyler Guyton and thought he could play OG and had a really high upside, but the Packers develop guys like Morgan really-really well. #45-Cooper -I think there's a consensus on this one. Everyone wanted him, everyone hoped the Packers would draft him in the mid-second. They moved back and added two picks. Gute says they had that trade ready to go BEFORE, again, a team jumped in front of us and took the "Best available" player in Cooper DeJean, probably the guy that Packers fans wanted to see more than anyone...so it'd appear they were again, really happy to get him. To me, he's a more physical Quay. I keep hearing people talk about how he's a lighter LB, he's smaller, he's not a MLB. I don't understand that personally. If you get a Guard on a LB, that LB is usually in trouble, but I thought Cooper did as good a job as any at taking on blocks and shedding them. Gute was asked what he wants in a LB. Did he want a big, physical thumper to compliment Quay, etc...He said he wanted someone who could do it all. He talked about how we'd be in the nickel for the most part and said when you have guys with very different skill sets, it makes it that much harder when one guy comes out. If you have to go from Quay to McDuffie, you're going to have to adjust how you cover with your LBs. That theme continues...at #58 #58-Bullard He's really similar to McKinney to me. Better in the slot, not as good in open space according to scouting reports, but he was almost exclusively a slot up until last year. Described as the leader of the defense, "as he went, they went," and just a guy who loves to play. Guys that play with that energy...that's huge. #88-Lloyd I love this pick in hindsight. Watching him, he's got quick feet, he's short, but strong as hell. 5'8 220, not elite speed, but great quickness. More the type of RB I like to see in this ZBS. The Packers want bigger, physical runners, but they have to get to the hole, they have to be able to read blocks. That's the whole point of zone blocking. You create cutback lanes. I think Lloyd will be a really good back. Some concerns seem to be issues in Pass Pro. #91-Hopper This is the guy most people are the most...perplexed by. As always, Gute gets the benefit of the doubt, but I didn't love it. Payton Wilson, the 6'4 LB who ran a 4.43 was there and went to the Steelers a few picks later...but there were reports they would have taken Hopper. Wilson had injury and age issues. To me, that's not a big issue as his upside was so high and he was just better. Hopper had a poor year in '23, he was much better in '22. There are reports he was injured much of last year( @Joseph Zarrshared some retweets on all these guys, but Hopper in particular that are interesting). He's a really good blitzer, good at playing downhill. Struggles with missed tackles, but Gute described him as a "violent tackler." He's LB4 right now and they clearly liked him more than the consensus big board guys. #111-Evan Williams This is a guy I didn't even remember when they drafted him. Going back to the Sr Bowl, I remember them talking about him, but he wasn't even on the PFF draft simulator...which is meaningless, but it's just to say I think it was a surprise pick, but again, there were reports by other teams beat writers that many teams hoped he'd fall to them in Rd4. The Packers got aggressive and went up to get him. If you go back and watch him, he looks very much like Micah Hyde. Not great speed(4.6 40) but quick and really aggressive attacking at the LOS. #163-Jacob Monk Another guy they traded up for. Another guy I didn't really know anything about. I do remember Dane Brugler saying something along the lines of 'everyone's talking about Graham Barton as a Center, but look at Duke's center right now,' something along those lines. He's a guy who looks like he can be a really versatile player. He's an incredible athlete. 9.74 RAS score. Started 58 games at Center and OG...he's strong. I don't know if he's a starter or not, but man, we were thin at OG/C and he appears to be a really nice swing player along the IOL. #169-Kitan Oladapo I love this guy! This was someone I thought early on could be a really good target to be a WLB in the 4-3 and then a nickel LB. I think I underestimated him. He looks like a more versatile player than that. He's a converted CB who moved to safety. 6'2 220. Just seems like a guy who's going to be a STs demon and really an interesting player in Hafley's scheme. I can see him playing Caleb Williams and spying him as he gets outside the pocket, knocking balls down, covering TEs on 3rd down. #202-OT Travis Glover Never heard of the guy, but he looks fun. Just a big man, lost quite a bit of weight for the combine(that's a theme, I would guess most players are lighter at the combine than they'll play at as they're training for tests rather than Football). I see a big guy who's a long shot, but I'm always for adding OL. I'm rooting for a guy like Caleb Jones or Glover to win the RT job or maybe come in as a 6th OL when the Packers want to play like SF and just move the defense. #245-Michael Pratt He was a 3rd/4th rd pick on many mocks. Seems like a good athlete, an average arm but a smart quick decision-maker. The type of QB the Packers can hopefully develop and can then back up Love before dealing him for a late rd pick in a couple of years and you basically get that backup for free. That's ideally how it'll work. With Tom Clements, it's just smart to bring in QBs. Sean Clifford looked good last year, but the Packers' have preached competition so much. This was @CheezWizHed's guy. #255-Kalen King Every year there are probably 100 different guys who get mocked to the 1st rd, but this is a guy who was viewed as a top 10-15 pick coming into this year. If you saw the Packers got him in the 1st rd a year ago, you'd have thought they probably had a bad year and used their 1st on him. He struggled badly this year, but if he can get back to where he was last year, that's a HUGE steal in the 7th rd. Very similar to Carrington Valentine, a B1G Corner who struggled his last year in College(Wicks from last year would fall into that category, Hopper as well). UDFA-Donovan Jennings 6'4 330LB LT from South Florida. GTD him 110K so they clearly like him a lot. That tells me there's a very good chance he can beat our Royce Newman or at least make the team as a OG with some versatility. I've seen at least one site say he's got the ability to stay at OT. Seems like an OG only to me, but either way, the Packers didn't give anyone more than 10K last year and that may have been the case in '22 as well. But they GTD him a decent chunk of money...so they clearly think he's got a chance to make the team. LS Peter Bowden(*Wisconsin) #1 LS on the "Big Board." Some other sites had the NCST LS in from of him, but the Packers have struggled here. Bad snap last year nearly caused Calrson to miss a kick in the SF game. There was a bad exchange on the one he DID miss. They need to get better here. Just for that reason, I think he can make the 53-man. Summary How much you like the draft probably depends on what you think of the Packers CBs and OL. They were jumped twice for DBs projected to go 10-15 spots higher than they went when Detroit moved up for Terrion Arnold, arguably the #1 CB in the draft and when the Eagles moved up for Cooper DeJean in the 2nd. The Packers have said that Eric Stokes is completely healthy and looks good. Valentine looked really good last year. That's not much depth and you're hoping that Bullard/McKinney can play the slot and then cover up for some mistakes on the back end. But man, they added to the spine of that defense with 2 LBs and 3 safeties. They added depth along the OL. They added upside and they added to the STs. That may be one of the more underrated aspects of this off-season, the new kickoff rules. Marshawn Lloyd is projected to be a return man. I'd have liked to see Gute move up and get Fautanu from Washington. I liked Morgan. I liked Fautanu more. Again, you could say the same with Mitchell. I'd say a B draft. They didn't get as many premium positions. We just saw Kamren Curl sign for 9M over 2 years...and he was right up there with McKinney as a FA. But I loved the guys they did get. They certainly filled the holes on this team. Two better sources of analysis are probably; And; https://packerswire.usatoday.com/lists/closer-look-at-green-bay-packers-2024-draft-picks/
  11. You seem to confuse my disagreeing with you with regards to sending down Chourio, who is signed and here either way, as ignorance that "it happens," and some prospects are sent down. Not sure why that is, don't care. ARod is about as relevant as Holliday here. Has nothing to do with Chourio. `
  12. They don't have a NT, but they still have a 1 tech and a 3 tech. You need that big run stuffer to play the 1 tech. You cut Slaton and Clark...and then I'd guess you'd have to have Ford on the PS, they'd be the only 1 tech's you'd have. You really still need that big space eater. That and they also got REALLY versatile Safeties. Bullard may end up being the nickel and Oladapo or Williams could end up being the 2nd safety. That's...not far-fetched. At the very least, the versatility we have in our secondary and namely at safety, it should make it easier for the Packers to keep 5 CBs and just 4 active on many game days. A 4-3 team can keep 10 DL(we kept 12 last year on the 53 with 6 OLB and 6 DL)...Philly, SF, they've kept 11-12 in recent years, but ideally it's 9-10. We have pretty damn good players there who can play a lot of snaps, so 4/5 is fine. That allows more room at other spots. At LB, you could keep 4 there and promote from the PS(injuries sort that stuff out by week 2-3 if not earlier). So Wilson could start on the PS and you could go Quay, Coop, McDuffie, Hopper and Wilson, Welch on STs especially since none of them are particularly highly sought after(*at this point, who knows what pre-season will bring). The best case scenario is some of these UDFA/late rd picks or returning PS players force some of these "locks," into the Bubble category. That's the whole point. Create more competition and I think we've done that. -At RB, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see Dillon not make the team. AT least that's how I'd view it going in. Jacobs, Lloyd, Wilson. I think Wilson is just better and ready for more carries. I started doing this and got bored as it was...probably you had almost player for player with the exception of Slaton and I had Melton on the "locks," list.
  13. I still have a lot of faith in Wiemer becoming a ~3 WAR player. Not sure why Urias was brought up as a negative for him, he was a pretty valuable player and Wiemer could be as well at all 3 OF positions...but he needs regular ABs. He's got massive power, speed, and great defense, but he's playing tentatively in all phases(again, similar to Turang last year, though at least he was still picking it). I wouldn't consider trading Wiemer unless you're getting back something that'd be an overpay. I just suggested a trade with the Marlins. I guess I'd send Black and Wiemer to them for someone like Cabrera or another former top pitching prospect who still has plus stuff, but is struggling. That's the type of guy I have confidence in the Brewers working with. But I'm not trading him just for the sake of trading him.
  14. I think there is though. 1-You get a kid like him and I think he starts overthrowing once he reaches the big leagues. As incredible as he looked at the futures game, that was not sustainable. 2-I think he becomes a FB/SL pitcher who's less likely to work on the Change and the CB if he gets called up. He throws a Change in AA and it gets hit, who cares. He throws one in Milwaukee and it gets hit, he's less likely to go back to it. 3-It's easier to control his innings. I guess it's possible, but I don't think it's that good of an idea at this point. I hope he forces the issue this year. He's special enough that he could end up contributing...I just would rather exhaust other options first. That said, he's a guy I'd pay to see if he were to make his debut and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he came up to make a spot start. I still like Gasser, Ashby, Myers has looked really good. And there will be pitchers on the market. It really hurts that we couldn't/didn't make a push for Snell or Montgomey. I would guess much of that was uncertainty about this team, but adding another really good pitcher to slot in as that #1/2 could have been a boost. Snell has struggled, but I like him still as well. We can also hope the Fish keep struggling. I would love to put together a package for Cabrera. Black, someone like Brown Jr. The Marlins have a lot of young pitching and value hitters like Black(or so it seems). I have little doubt he could step in and be a dominant pitcher in Milwaukee and Boeve's absurd start and Black defensive limitations make trading him a bit more appealing. AAA pitcher Max Meyer would be another option I'd look at. Probably not straight up for Black, but I've warmed to the idea of dealing Black for a SPer and the Marlins seem like a team that may be wiling to make such a trade.
  15. I think that's a bad idea...at least until we get to Sept. Let the kid develop into an ace. He's not there yet. He dominates...and then he loses his command badly. (Edit-His command gets really bad, that's what I'm trying to say). If we want him to be a reliever or long man, sure, but I'd rather let him spend the summer, or at least most of it in AA and then if he develops, AAA and BP when rosters expand. This is a kid who has the potential to not just be an ace, but be one of the true 4-5 top-tier aces....but he's just wild yet and he still needs to develop his repertoire and work on just building arm strength, repeating his delivery, that change and curve to a lesser degree. I'd rather bring up Gasser and look to the trade market.
  16. Huh? Where is there any Wiemer/Urias crossover? Also, if Wiemer puts up ~6.5 WAR over this year and next, I think most people will be thrilled...but again, really just doesn't make sense to begin with.
  17. I don't care if he was compared to Jackson Holiday...and it was hard to tell you were talking about Wiemer until you edited and wait Wiemer. The person you were responding to clearly seemed to be talking about Chourio(the subject of the thread). Jackson Holliday doesn't have anything to do with Chourio. AGAIN, Chourio is signed. No service time issues. He's hitting the ball hard. It makes actual sense for the Os to send Holliday back down. Not only was his OPS .170, he'd gotten on base 4 times in 36 PAs, but he was striking out 50% of the time and...again, and this is real important, they have an incentive to send him down. Chourio is adjusting, not struggling anywhere nearly as bad as him and the Brewers have no financial or team control incentive to send him back down. This is after Chourio had arguably the best at bats of the season. So I'll echo what the guy talking about Chourio said; Even there, I'm not sure he's lost confidence. PS-I know it's been said, but...these are the faces of the franchise. It's not Yellach and Churo, it's Yellich and Chourio.
  18. Again, NFL Draft Buzz...might be worse, but it's a helluva competition to the bottom!
  19. Yup. And there's no service time benefit. -You're seeing the adjustments in real time. -Exactly.
  20. You see him up there? He's not lacking for confidence. He's smiling and laughing after lacing a couple to left. Then one fell and he let out a kinda sarcastic looking laugh...as though "finally, one fell." If he was looking like Turang last August, fine. But he doesn't. He's overly aggressive, pressing, but he's still hitting the ball hard and squaring the ball up enough. He'll adjust. He'll be fine. Going down to AAA and punishing pitching...he's past that. If he wasn't already signed, then absolutely. But he is.
  21. I don't think they have. Last year, halfway through the year, they were regarded by some as high as #2, but before that, I don't recall them being in the top half of the rankings since Brinson. Yes...strongly agree with everything you said...and I think things are only improving. This team looks better, the future looks brighter, more stars coming...last years draft could become a springboard for the future(though...they looked pretty good before that).
  22. No. He's a 20-year-old rookie. Let him play. He hit the ball hard 3 times today, twice right at guys.
  23. We are still very thing along the IOL. If there was one thing I wish we could have done in this draft, it would have been grab one more potential starter there...by the time our 3rd rd picks came though, there were so many guys gone. McCormick would have been interesting. Must not have thought much of Mahogany. It'd be great if Dillard could revive his career as an IOL. Maybe, but he also gets a say there. So he may want to go somewhere that has a less stable QB situation. And that's also not accounting for how he may play in the Pre-season. He could play well and still not beat out Clifford. Just hope he makes it a larger conversation and forces the issue in camp and Pre-season.
  24. I can't say I know anything about either. I saw the NC State kid was rated higher on one site, and Bowden higher on the consensus big board. I was just thinking our LS isn't good, we signed one of the top ones.
  25. What's his stuff look like? FB velo, secondary stuff? Guessing he throws a sinker, change, something to induce as many GBs as he is thus far.
