  1. I get what you're saying. At some point though, some players are just so bad they deserve to not start anymore. I would say Betancourt is definitely at that point. Roenicke should be benching him as an example of what happens to players who don't improve, and go with a Counsell/Wilson platoon until Melvin gives him a real shortstop. Maybe Yuni is a great guy who his teammates like (no evidence of that, just speculating), but his approach and defense are horrid. He should not be starting, regardless of how mediocre the alternatives are.
  2. Mine are the White Sox, sort of by default. I used to hate them when Milwaukee was still in the AL, but they basically won me over in 2004. I just don't really care about any other AL teams that much, but I like the White Sox. I also kind of like the Royals because of their prospects, plus they have a neat stadium and deserve to win again at some point.
  3. Josh Wilson has had all of 20 plate appearances with the Brewers, and people are talking like he's demonstrated something one way or another? I know he's not going to be great offensively, but I have to think he'd be better defensively than Betancourt, and probably no worse at the plate. Hell, this season he has an OPS over .800 (very small sample, of course). What is the resistance to giving him some starts?
  4. Come join tomwopat and myself in the chat! Narveson looking good!
  5. Why does Morgan try to bunt so much? Better hitter than that.
  6. Yeah, looked like that should have been a routine double play. Weeks made a rushed bad throw as well.
  7. Yeah, that's what I gathered. It's not like they're going to give us a shortstop for him or something.
  8. A lot of people just vote for all the guys on their favorite team. That is the only reason.
  9. Haha...I actually just asked the same thing on Twitter.
  10. To a one day contract. This was kind of a neat prize idea and it sounds like the winner is a good guy and long time ticket holder.
  11. Time to get back on the horse at home, Brewers. Sounds like Niemann should be vulnerable tonight.
  12. You don't have to DFA Betancourt right now. Just let him ride the pine and go with a Counsell/Wilson platoon. Betancourt can start if one of the other guys just needs a day off, and be used sparingly as a pinch hitter in blow out situations. Then when a better option is available in a trade, DFA him once a deal gets done. I personally think Rafael Furcal is the most realistic option of the big name potential shortstop acquisitions. The Dodgers are in a financial meltdown with MLB apparently nixing their deal with FOX. It seems like an MLB seizure of the franchise is imminent, and at that point they will probably approve deals to shed payroll in order to make the team more attractive to a potential buyer. Melvin will just have to make sure Furcal is healthy before making a trade.
  13. I said this in Saturday's in game thread, but I think a lot of Brewers fans are almost scared to embrace Axford after getting burned by Turnbow and Hoffman (to an extent). Axford has better stuff than Turnbow, and is only 28 years old. I think we should enjoy having a top flight closer right now.
  14. Hate to celebrate anyone getting hurt, but hard not to smile a bit on this one.
  15. The answer is to just start Wilson and Counsell and rarely use Betancourt. At least either of the former two have a chance to get on base. I'm really sick of Betancourt's "make an out as quickly as possible" approach at the plate.
  16. This. I don't think it would take much to get him with what a mess the Dodgers are right now. Of course, he's on the DL right now so it would have to be certain he's healthy before pulling the trigger.
  17. I kind of came around on this series. After the debut, I was sort of like, "What is really the big deal?" Then I just sort of stuck with it, and the story got much more interesting after the first couple episodes. Last night's finale definitely had some interesting twists and turns (and I never expected last week's episode to end like it did). They've done a good job making you really care about basically every single character, even some of the lesser ones.
  18. Boy, if Arnett can get back on track, that would be huge for the Brewers long term.
  19. Yeah. Plus the fact that Wolf has always been better than Suppan and has better "stuff" than he ever did. I've been happy with Wolf's performance as a Brewer. Wouldn't be opposed to seeing him traded this off-season if he can be dealt for something of value, though.
  20. I thought the trailer looked pretty good. I will go see it when it comes out.
  21. How have the BoSox fans been as far as treating visiting Brewers fans?
  22. Pretty sure Melvin gets credit for his signing. I hope people are starting to realize that a John Axford implosion isn't imminent. I know a lot of Brewers fans are still hesitant to accept closers, but he's way younger than Hoffman and has better stuff than Turnbow did. Let's just enjoy having a high quality closer right now.
  23. I give him about a B- . The continual batting of McGehee in the fifth spot and some of his bullpen usage has irked me, but I still find him much more tolerable than Ken Macha. Yes, it's true that Macha had virtually no starting rotation to work with, and things weren't all his fault...but it became clear he lost the team. The players seem much more motivated playing under Roenicke, for whatever reason.
  24. Sounds like it's indeed DiFelice getting called up. Good riddance to Herrera...completely ineffective.
