  1. I could definitely see the Cubs giving Fielder a huge deal. They are probably one of the few NL teams with the means and reasoning to do so, however.
  2. Sounds like they got shot out of a cannon into the sun.
  3. Here are some of mine: - Casey McGehee will struggle during the spring, causing panic, but then be fine once the regular season starts. Like Corey Hart last year. - Prince Fielder will show greatly improved defense due to his trimmer physique. - One of Logan Schafer or Caleb Gindl will come very close to making the team, but will start the season in AAA. Gomez will be on watch. - Speaking of which, Carlos Gomez will actually take some walks and not hack at everything. - Shaun Marcum will sign a team friendly contract extension during spring training. - Ryan Braun will introduce his latest business venture, which will be a line of hair care and personal grooming products. The packaging will be as gaudy as Remetee. - George Kottaras will get traded for a low level minor league pitcher. Martin Maldonado makes the big league club as Lucroy's backup. - Ron Roenicke has three consecutive base runners make steal attempts during one game. - Yuniesky Betancourt suffers a fluke leg injury on a diving play and goes on the 60 day DL. Luis Cruz splits time with Counsell as the starting shortstop.
  4. The problem is that both of those guys will put up arguably worse offensive numbers than Betancourt. Are their gloves that much better than his to justify a signing (keeping in mind the 40 man is full)? I honestly don't know.
  5. Currently in second place! If people from Brewerfan.net could vote for this one, it would be really cool.
  6. Blake, thanks for the further insight into Greinke. It's appreciated. Royals fans can know that their franchise seems to be turning a corner, despite trading their best starting pitcher. Brewers fans were in the same place you are just a few years back.
  7. Hart's salary tops out at $10 million in 2013. I guess I don't see why that should block extending Marcum/Greinke.
  8. Yeah, or we could have just gone on being mediocre for another couple years, then had to rebuild and hoped to compete before Braun and Gallardo probably leave in FA. So much better than actually taking a legitimate shot at a serious playoff run over the next couple seasons, right? You ask where the impact talent is? In the majors: in the rotation, the bullpen, and the starting lineup. I'd rather have that then continuing to be "OK" in those Baseball America rankings that don't really mean anything in the long run when so many prospects flame out.
  9. Yeah, I would rent a car. We rented a convertible when we were down there and had a blast driving up to Sedona and seeing the other sights. I didn't really notice any convenient public transportation that would have gotten us to Maryvale or the other parks we visited. We went on the Apache Trail...and I would advise not to do it unless you have a strong stomach and aren't scared of heights! A bit more of an adventure than we expected after visiting Tortilla Flat (which itself is a must see).
  10. So you're going to take a huge hit in offensive production to get a bit better at SS? Doesn't make much sense to me. Also, people have to quit pretending you're going to stick Gamel or Hart at 1B and have anywhere close to as threatening a lineup as you do with Prince.
  11. Oh god, I knew you'd throw that out there. The Brewers aren't the Yankees and can't pay a guy based on WAR.
  12. My opinion is that if they aren't banned from baseball, the guys who would get in based on stats should be voted for. I would have voted for Bagwell and also Palmeiro, among others.
  13. Yes, but he's also been hurt considerably more. If Weeks health for the next five years "averages out" to his career norms, a contract like Uggla's would be a disaster for the Brewers.
  14. Yeah, sounds like he has opportunities coming out the woodwork now because of Youtube, etc. Good for him. He admitted he fell on hard times due to drugs and alcohol, but said he's been clean for two years. Will be nice to see if he can get back on his feet.
  15. I think it's an overpay and I can't see the Brewers matching this contract with Weeks. There's just so much risk in a contract like this.
  16. I suppose the only way I could see that is if you work with the person and can't stand them. Still pretty crappy though, yeah.
  17. How old is your furnace? If more than 20 years, yeah, it's probably on it's last legs. We had a Lennox unit installed about a year and a half ago and it's been great. Our previous furnace was over 20 years old, and the casters inside kept rusting up due to a build up in condensation. I believe we paid a little over three grand for it, but there was a tax credit (can't remember how much though). Any dealer should be tell you about any tax credits or rebates going on (if any right now).
  18. So we have concluded Weeks isn't resigning with the Brewers next year or what does this mean? I believe logan is working under that assumption, but there should be a chance for the Brewers to re-sign Weeks. The two sides are still talking according to what some have posted here.
  19. There really isn't much out there significantly better on the FA market. The most realistic way to get a significant upgrade over Betancourt would be through a trade, and I'm not sure Melvin has the chips left to get something done. I know I've been beating this drum a lot, but I really hope Luis Cruz gets a shot playing shortstop in spring training. I suspect he would be better defensively than Yuniesky and might have as good a bat (which admittedly isn't saying much).
  20. We stayed at the Candlewood on the north side of Phoenix this past March. It's an extended stay hotel. Nothing fancy, but we got a very reasonable rate there. Good if you're on a budget. It's in a decent area with some nice dining options relatively close by.
  21. Casey, not to nag, but did you possibly have any further insight into this issue? Thanks.
  22. I would think Young's offensive numbers would still make him much more desirable than Betancourt, even with the bad defense. Still, that salary just doesn't make a deal plausible for the Brewers.
  23. I could be mistaken, but I think Axford's mechanics seem better than Turnbow's. I suspect Axford will be less susceptible to melt downs like Turnbow was.
  24. Rivas/Gomez for Sizemore? Just a thought.
  25. I got my wife the Kindle with the 3G for Christmas and she really likes it. You can even browse the web with it if you wish.
