  1. Buster Olney with an interesting article up this morning at ESPN (Insider for the full version). Basically says Ned Yost was instrumental in getting the Royals to trade for Cain and Escobar.
  2. If I had to guess, I'd say Gamel + a MLB reliever or MLB ready reliever. I think it would be very tough to part with Gamel right now. We need him around as insurance for when Prince leaves after this season.
  3. Honestly you can tell in that pic, while Prince still has some girth, he's in pretty good shape. Man, those arms are huge.
  4. A .320 OBP from Gomez would be outstanding at this point.
  5. Audio of Doug Melvin on WSSP's "The Big Show" this afternoon.
  6. He really is. I thought he looked pretty good defensively when he was up with the Brewers this past season as well. I don't see why he shouldn't at least get a shot.
  7. I still hope Luis Cruz is given a shot in Spring Training, though I know he has plenty of detractors.
  8. splitter: I think you're probably right. I'm guessing Melvin would have said something else if the talks were dead.
  9. I'd just stick with Dickerson over Edmonds at this point. Probably better defensively and more versatile.
  10. Isn't Mitch Stetter still on the roster?
  11. Greinke mentioned being neighbors with Weeks. He specifically said he had hoped the Royals would trade for him a couple years ago. It can't hurt in pushing Weeks toward signing an extension.
  12. What would it realistically take to get Upton at this point?
  13. From his radio interview just now, it sounds like he might look for "depth" type moves the rest of the off-season, i.e. looking at additional backups, etc. He mentioned protecting against being caught shorthanded by injuries. Didn't sound like he'd look at other starting shortstops or CFs or anything like that.
  14. Obviously that's what made Greinke accept the trade to Milwaukee.
  15. For whatever it's worth, Drew Olson's comment about Betancourt on 540 ESPN this afternoon was along the lines of: "The people I talk to, who get paid to watch Royals games, say he's one of the worst players they've ever seen."
  16. Yeah, I just noticed that too. Pretty cool.
  17. Doug Melvin will be on 540 ESPN's D-List in the next few minutes.
  18. Buster Olney weighs in with his opinion. As far as the Rogers article, I suppose you could say KC won in some ways. But I don't think you can discount the player the Brewers got in return.
  19. I would say Michael Fiers is worth keeping an eye on.
  20. This is a really good point. I can see them overpaying on a Weeks extension just a bit so they don't have another glaring position hole for 2012.
  21. paul, it was announced it's indeed Jeffress in the trade. Sounds like there was a bit of a delay while the Royals checked into some health issue of his (not drug related).
  22. If he comes cheap enough. I wouldn't pay him more than a million, plus some incentives.
  23. The positive is that the Brewers only have him for one season before the Royals basically pay for his contract buyout. I hope Cruz gets a shot in spring training.
