  1. I'm not sure if you can say the injury is "nonsense." They apparently had him get an MRI and found some kind of legitimate neck injury. I doubt they are just faking the whole thing just to mess with people. Haudricourt mentioned this on the radio this afternoon, and noted that MLB does actually check out DL injuries. You can't just make something up and stick a guy on the DL and get away with it.
  2. Just wait 'til after the game when Macha says something about him "Not hitting the corners quite right" or something.
  3. McCalvy: "looks like Jeff Suppan is headed to the 15 day DL." Edit: Haudricourt just said the same thing. Cites the neck issue.
  4. Seems like the Brewers consistently make some changes to their ballpark year after year, which is kind of nice to see. McCalvy has an article up with some details and pictures: What's new at Miller Park?
  5. If he's not going to be the starter, he should be released. There's no reason to pay a bench guy on this team over $4 million when there are cheaper options out there.
  6. Maybe we can trade him for Dejesus or Otsuka.
  7. More cryptic messages via McCalvy: "Suppan looked fine in sim game bust some kind of pronouncement is coming. Asst GM said he'll meet reporters in Tempe to explain."
  8. Well, I called it. Phantom or not, it seems my earlier speculation on some kind of muscle strain was correct.
  9. Or maybe Macha has gotten sick of being asked questions about the rotation and decided to have a bit of fun with the media by intentionally being vague.
  10. I saw that. I hope he gets a chance with another organization. I assume he will, if only for his mid 90's fastball.

  12. I guess one issue might be that Hart is probably somewhat liked by his teammates (not sure how close he is with Fielder, Braun, etc, just speculating), so you risk alienating the clubhouse somewhat. Still, they didn't mind trading Hall and then Hardy. Maybe it's time to cut ties with Hart and bring in another veteran on the cheap, ala Jim Edmonds.
  13. My understanding is that Lowell was in the Boston lineup yesterday, so I'm not sure I'd count on that. If he was possibly going to be dealt, I assume he'd be sitting.
  14. Yeah, it definitely seems odd that he wouldn't just come out and say, "He's pitching in the minor league game," if that was the case. Then again, maybe he just has something like a slight muscle strain and may end up sitting out tomorrow?
  15. Just to point out the game may be on other Brewers Radio Network affiliates as well. I'm listening right now on AM-940.
  16. I don't want to see Hart released yet because I'm not really confident that some combo of Gerut and Edmonds is really going to be the answer in RF. I don't really get why people are pining to see Gerut get more playing time. No, he's not a bad player, but he has no upside whatsoever. In my view he's a servicable 4th OF and that's about it at this point in his career. Edmonds seems to have proven himself this spring, but how many starts can you reasonably expect from him, given that he didn't play all of last year?
  17. Unfortunately when you have people like Gary Ellerson on WSSP discussing topics like this on the radio, ideas like this can be perpetuated pretty quickly. (I'm not trying to bash Ellerson, but he has even admitted on the air he knows next to nothing about baseball.)
  18. Yeah, I tend to agree with this viewpoint a bit more.
  19. The thing is that Witrado has been the only person whatsoever pushing this "Braun is dissatisfied with his contract, and the Brewers may trade him", agenda. I remember hearing him say last season, without prodding from the hosts on a radio talk show on WSSP: "They may look at trading Braun this off-season. That contract is very tradeable." It's just borderline irresponsible journalism at best, or carrying a vendetta against a star player at worst.
  20. Kind of a fluff piece, but there are some good comments by Braun. Link. This part in particular made me smile: On him losing money when he signed the long-term contract back in ’08 and why he did so: “I think that is something that people look back at in hindsight. I think it remains to be seen whether I stay healthy or whether I continue to produce, obviously. That is the plan. That is the goal, but for me for the Brewers to believe in me despite having less that a full year in the big leagues and committing that amount of money and that many years to me is something that means the world to me and is something that I will never forget. Looking back at it I would make that decision every time.”
  21. To be honest, with the economy down there right now, I'd be somewhat surprised if this happens so quickly; but if so, good for them. Team owners say new Snappers stadium could open by 2012. They seem optimistic, but do acknowledge the difficulties: Conerton acknowledged the local economy is much different than it was in 2002, when the attendance projections were first made. A new study likely will be needed to refresh projected attendance figures. "But our own attendance at Pohlman during this economic downturn hasn't changed all that much," he said. "Snappers baseball continues to be a relatively inexpensive form of entertainment. "We know the economy is not the best right now, but it's going to get better," he added. "The banks aren't lending right now, but it won't be that way forever." Construction would likely take between 12 and 15 months. Prior to that, more time is needed for the financing and bidding portions of the project. "In reality, the window on having the stadium for April 2012 is closing pretty quickly," he said. "In all likelihood, 2013 is a more realistic goal."
  22. Michael Scott is hilarious. I don't understand how people can't like him. I guess Steve Carrel's style and humor just appeal to me, I suppose.
  23. The PS3 is an amazing piece of hardware, even if you don't play games a lot. The ability to stream movies and music, play Blu-rays (the quality of the BD player and DVD up-conversion are considered excellent), download new games and updates, etc. It's a pretty good value at $300. I am actually considering getting a second PS3 eventually, and moving the current one upstairs for our bedroom TV (so we can watch Blurays up there if we want).
  24. Thanks again for the tips. We managed to get Adam Stern and Corey Hart on her ball yesterday, so she was happy. Almost got Carlos Gomez, but he got distracted by a visitor on the field...one Moises Alou! Have had a great time. I will try to post thoughts on spring training and some pics, probably in a couple days. We are taking the day to do some sight seeing up in Sedona, and then flying back to Milwaukee tomorrow morning. Has been a very nice vacation, and I'd encourage any baseball fan to try and make it down here for ST some time, if you can at all.
