  1. No, this is serious, serious stuff. I'll be expecting that contract for my dad's beer signed in blood, thanks!
  2. Plus the fact that he's simply cheap at this point. I don't believe for a minute he'd make it through.
  3. Take this FWIW: 'As colleague Tim Kurkjian learned Wednesday, Jim Edmonds was told he has made the Brewers' roster, and he returned home to get some stuff.' The above is from Buster Olney's blog this morning on ESPN.
  4. Then we'll happily consider it a draw.
  5. I guess it could somewhat make sense if Edmonds does not end up on the team.
  6. All right. Game is at the Dodgers' park tomorrow. I guess we'll try to get there extra early and ask around.
  7. I have them at 85 wins at this point, which may put them in the Wild Card. My dad seriously thinks they will be a 95 win team this year (Hey, if only we can all be so optimistic, right?). We have a bet on the season, where whomever is closest gets a beer bought by the loser.
  8. Lowell would have no place on this team. None. As Crew07 pointed out, we already have plenty of 3B types that are younger and cheaper. I respect what Lowell was able to do even last season, but the injury signs are there that he is going to start regressing pretty quickly.
  9. If we were going to trade Suppan, I'd rather just offer to eat most of Suppan's salary (as I assume that would be necessary) and get a marginal mid-level minor leaguer in return. I'd rather just have Suppan's money off the books after this season and be done with it, than take on more money for next season (which could be better used to extend Fielder or make another FA SP signing).
  10. I hope they find a way to keep Edmonds around. He's been so good this spring, it seems like it would be a waste not to keep him on the team at this point.
  11. Hey guys. Having a great time in Arizona so far. One minor nitpick...we haven't had much luck getting any Brewers to sign. We got close to getting Coffey and Fielder earlier in the week, but just missed both of them. My wife got a couple Mariners to sign yesterday, which was cool. I'd like to get her at least one Brewers autograph on her baseball before we leave on Saturday. We have tickets to the Brewers/Dodgers game on Thursday. Would it be worth it to make a trip to Maryvale early in the morning before the game (where I assume they'll be practicing?). Or just go to the Dodgers' park a couple hours before game time and hope we can catch the guys somewhere around the park? Thanks.
  12. Guy just sounds like he either needs some sort of counseling, or to just retire and try a new career. It obviously sucks what has happened to him in his personal life, but that doesn't entitle him to a job on a professional baseball team.
  13. Yeah, I just do not get those comments by Macha. He hasn't come anywhere close to saying anything as damning in regards to Suppan. Before I was somewhat of a Macha defender, but if he keeps saying stupid stuff like this, I will quickly sour on him. There is no reason Suppan should make the rotation instead of Narveson at this point. None. If that is what happens, I will be extremely upset...not just with Macha, but with the entire organization.
  14. I have to ask. What are you basing this statement on?
  15. Greetings from Arizona, fellow BFnetters! My net access is limited, but I had to chime in on this. I am glad MIN got this done. One less player for the big market teams to openly covet. I believe this does put further pressure on DM and MA to re-sign Prince. If they could get him on a deal as outlined above (re: slightly lower than Mauer's deal), I think they have to do it.
  16. Macha didn't seem as enthusiastic about Suppan after today's game. From Tom Haudricourt: Suppan said afterward he was too "amped up" about using all of his pitches and missed with location. But manager Ken Macha said the problem in the first inning was that Suppan wasn't using all of his pitches, that he wasn't using enough slow stuff, and he sent pitching coach Rick Peterson out to remind him of that. "It's not like I haven't mentioned that before," said Macha.
  17. Exactly. The Cardinals have so many more advantages than the Brewers financially; we have to remember they aren't in our shoes, even though the payrolls are pretty close right now.
  18. I wonder how Macha will try to spin Suppan's outing this time.
  19. He also brutally beat Tomo Ohka and JJ Hardy after various locker room disputes, leading to them being placed on the DL.
  20. Yeah, very funny episode last night. I hate to say it, but I'm kind of glad the Pam character is off the show right now. It seems like it has opened up a lot of time for some of the other characters that were getting somewhat overlooked (Kevin, Oscar, Darrel, etc).
  21. Yeah, I personally tend to doubt the medical staff was careless or lazy in the handling of one of the franchise's top prospects. For all we know, Gamel could have downplayed that he was in any pain or feeling discomfort.
  22. Well, I guess he probably won't be around to sign that ticket I have. This is too bad for Gamel, but like others said, he probably would have been starting in AAA anyway. Let's just hope that McGehee stays healthy and productive at 3B, and that Counsell and Heether (?) can fill in adequately as needed.
  23. This makes Tony LaRussa's problems look pretty quaint in comparison.
  24. You could very well be right. I think some of the speculation was based on a quote from Doug Melvin that talked about how he might look to cut some salary before Opening Day (I think this was right about Hart's arbitration hearing).
  25. I could be wrong, but wasn't yesterday the deadline for cutting non-guaranteed players to receive only 1/6th of their salary? If so, I'd assume that is a good sign for Bush.
