  1. Anyone played MAG yet? I'm thinking of picking it up for PS3. I've heard some mixed things, though.
  2. The difference is that Corey Hart had a chance to sign a bigger deal and turned it down, unlike Ryan Braun.
  3. I want to see it happen because I want to see the slack jawed look of the BoSox fans' and every other big market team when it's announced. I'm sick of those fans having it on easy street and getting whatever they want. We should get to keep at least one star player (we do have Braun, but at a huge discount). If we can't keep Prince, we may as well accept the fact we'll probably never win a World Series.
  4. I would say Rickie should move down in the order, but that's sort of beside the point of the thread.
  5. On that note, I've heard a lot of times you can go to court and claim a faulty speedometer, and the judge will often reduce the ticket to something very menial.
  6. That reminds me, I thought I recall Congress passing a law limiting the percentage of revenue townships could raise from speeding tickets a few years ago. Or is that just an urban legend type thing?
  7. It could be. Melvin's actions in the near past with regards to Hall, Hardy, etc. seem to indicate that they're not messing around with under-performing players anymore, mainly because they simply can't afford to if they actually want to make the playoffs again.
  8. Well, that's the thing...it wouldn't necessarily have to cover every roadway...but if one large parking lot made out of the panels could supply a whole factory, or a city block, it would hugely alleviate our current energy needs in this country.
  9. Yeah, someone mentioned on the JSOnline blog that he made comments alluding to wanting to stay a Brewer, and how he hated when he heard rumors he was going to be dealt to the Mets. Sounds like he and his agent are in full spin control at this point. I want to root for the guy (I want all Brewers to succeed...I was still pulling for Hall last season), but this whole situation just does not paint him in a good light.
  10. Haudricourt had a tweet about the '82 AL trophy being on display. Any chance someone could snap a pic of it? I've never seen it. Legend has it this trophy was found under a stack of newspapers in Bud Selig's office when they were cleaning out County Stadium amidst the move to Miller Park.
  11. I love it. Hart and his agent have really messed this whole situation up, and it's going to cost Hart a decent chunk of change. "We made a final offer that we thought was a good offer," said Werner. "It's significantly higher than the number we filed. They didn't like it. I said, 'See you in Tampa in a couple of weeks.'"
  12. Thanks for the heads up. Link with more info for those curious: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/business/83159792.html
  13. Seems like a pretty good deal for the Reds.
  14. It's an interesting idea. The problem is that neither of them likely have much value at this point. Putting two low value players together doesn't automatically mean you can get something better for them, since the other team still has to have room for them, not have better options internally, and pay their salaries. You mention Jermain Dye. Why wouldn't the other team just sign him on the cheap? That is assuming he can be had for less than the $4 million+ Hart will get, which may be the case at this point. There is a glut of aging OF types on the market yet. I also don't even know if Gamel is ready for "his shot." It may be for the best if he starts the season in AAA and shows he can hit consistently again. He just has not hit very well since his ill-fated MLB call up this past season. I would also be worried about McGehee's knees holding up playing a full season at 2B. Granted, we do have Counsell to play backup, but I'd rather leave Casey at 3B for the time being.
  15. I still don't get why they can't put in a train that is actually fast if California and other places are apparently getting actual "high speed rail".
  16. I've had employees do that.
  17. As far as roadways, this is an incredible invention I've been reading about for a while that seems like it may be gaining a slight amount of traction: http://www.solarroadways.com/main.html
  18. Yes, I've never pretended I didn't like the signing at the time. I think I've even said things to the effect of, "Yes, I liked the signing at the time. In retrospect, we probably shouldn't have done it, but hindsight is 20/20," etc. I do think the signing may have had unquantifiable results, such as increased fan excitement, generating free agent interest in the franchise, etc. Do those necessarily mean we still should have done it? Probably not, but before signing Suppan the Brewers did not generally even land free agents of his caliber, or spend that kind of money, period. You are right that the "big game pitcher" talk was rather silly, but any sports GM is going to put as positive a spin on any move as possible. I'm sure those comments were more geared towards hyping up the fan base than actual reasons for the signing.
  19. Come on. Barring injury, I just cannot envision any scenario in which Gomez does not get the majority of the playing time in CF at the start of the season.
  20. I see California is getting a train that is electric and can go up to 200 MPH. Why isn't Wisconsin getting something similar?
  21. Those projections just seem wrong to me. They're going to go from one of the best teams in RS to one of the worst in a single season? I know Escobar and Gomez may not hit as much as Cameron and Hardy, but Zaun will be an upgrade over Kendall and Hart really doesn't have anywhere to go but up at this point.
  22. I've taken the train from Harvard to Chicago, and it's nice...but the key difference is that driving around Chicago is horrible, while driving around Madison or Milwaukee is not that bad at all. And if the train is going to go an average speed under 60 MPH, I really do not see the benefit to ridership at all. It's also disingenuous to call it "high speed rail." They should call it "average speed rail", or "19th century speed rail".
  23. No, Hart almost went to arbitration last year, but signed literally hours before the hearing. This year, hearing comments from the Brewers' negotiator on brewers.com, it sounds like they do not want to face that same scenario again and are basically set on going to arbitration now. Arbitration hearings are scheduled for Feb. 1-21 in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area, and while both sides are barred from revealing the precise date, it's believed that Hart's is still several weeks away. Last year, negotiations with Hart went down to the wire before the sides struck a $3.25 million deal on the eve of a hearing. "We just don't have the appetite to go through that again," Werner said. "We made a good-faith effort to get something done a few weeks ahead of time, but at some point you've got to say, 'It's time to prepare for a case.' Nobody wants to go to a hearing, but I don't want to be in a position in a couple of weeks where we're back to where we are today, talking about the same number. To me, that's a waste of time for both sides. "Barring a drastic change in the landscape," Werner added, "we're probably going down to Tampa in a few weeks."
  24. I really doubt they traded for Gomez to let him ride the bench. He'll be given every chance to prove himself defensively in CF.
  25. Yeah, alternatively, if I could drive to Madison and take the train from there to the Twin Cities, that would be hugely appealing.
