  1. Well, someone will have to be traded to get any decent pitching, like I said earlier. Not sure who people think we can give up if it's none of the guys you mentioned. I guess Hardy, but that will only get us a #3 pitcher at best (I'm guessing). I think we need more than that if this team is going to get serious about making the playoffs in 2010.
  2. Yeah, that's the thing...Cards have probably an equally "easy" schedule compared to the Brewers...but the difference is they have two top five pitchers in their rotation. I just hope the Brewers keep winning and continue to keep things interesting down the stretch.
  3. If people really want Abreu, didn't he sign relatively cheaply this last off-season? Couldn't the Brewers sign him to a similar contract (assuming he'd even want to come here)? I'm not sure how useful Abreu would be to the Brewers, really, though. I think any extra money spent this winter needs to go to pitching.
  4. Like I said earlier, that whole FA list is not that impressive. I don't see anyone good that the Brewers will have a realistic chance to acquire. It's going to have to be through trades if this team is going to make any serious upgrades.
  5. I just don't believe the Reds would trade Harang for Hall straight up...they know how badly the Crew needs starting pitching right now, so they're probably going to want more than a struggling, overpaid utility guy.
  6. Very nice to have a couple relaxing wins back-to-back, but I wonder how many people in-state have given up on watching this team for the summer and watched the Packers tonight. The wife and I went to a local bar to have dinner tonight during the game, and they had both games on separate TVs. It was an OK-ish crowd for early Saturday night, and people seemed to be paying attention to both games. There was one group intently watching the Packers, but otherwise people seemed to be watching both games. You know that even about three years ago, that wouldn't have been the case. I think that speaks to the in roads the Brewers have been able to make with the casual fans in the past few seasons.
  7. I know it's only been a couple games, basically, but Escobar has been a pleasure to watch so far. I was getting so tired of watching Hardy struggle, seeing Alcides is a breath of fresh air.
  8. Seems like he was hitting OK in AAA. You really seem to rag on Escobar a lot...I don't think Escobar is as bad as you say, just like I don't think Gamel is going to be as spectacular as some say. I think they will both be fairly average players, personally.
  9. I guess I took it as partly him blaming the ownership at the time, but also stating that the whole dynamic of baseball was changing at that point.
  10. A few off the top of my head: Dr. Doom (Marvel Comics) Daniel Plainview (There Will Be Blood) Stone Cold Steve Austin (when he was a bad guy in WWF/WWE) Cobra Commander (G.I. Joe, cartoon and comics) The Joker (comics and "Dark Knight" in particular) Bill (Kill Bill)
  11. Yeah, I had Five Guys for the second time a couple weeks ago and it was excellent. Best burger I had in quite a while. I used to really like Culver's, but it seems like they changed their pattys a while ago. Maybe it's just the ones around here, but it seems like they are thinner and dryer than they used to be. Just not very satisfying like I remember them being. I see McDonald's has "angus burgers" now. Haven't tried them yet, but I generally avoid McDonald's these days.
  12. Yeah, I was just thinking that in retrospect, I kind of wish the Brewers had traded for Melky. He's having a pretty decent year and still relatively young.
  13. I like that writer's idea. They should ban beer for a series just to send a message to the idiots that if they can't handle their beer while at the park, they should stay home.
  14. No, didn't seem "tipsy" at all. He was pretty matter of fact with his statements. I was surprised to hear him be so blunt about the reasons why he retired. It's true his skills were declining, but it would have been nice to see the Brewers try to make a run in '93 and '94 while they still had some talent they could have kept around. Yount could have at least been a DH or something (assuming Molitor still would have left). And yeah, Brian and Bill didn't do a good job following up on that one...which is dumb, because it's not like the Selig's own the team anymore. Ah well.
  15. It's understandable that they wouldn't want to start Rivera three days in a row, but why does Kendall automatically get the next two? Although if they would go: two starts Rivera, two starts Kendall, and keep alternating like that, I wouldn't have a beef with it.
  16. There's no way Davis will get a 3 year, $30 million dollar contract. He's over 30 and having an unusually good year. Teams aren't stupid.
  17. Last year during a Brewers game, Bob Uecker had him in the booth and they had a pretty hilarious, but also interesting, conversation. Quite the pioneer. It's amazing that he was still doing live gigs regularly. He'll be missed indeed.
  18. FtJ, you make a good point...but I just have to believe teams will be more interested if they know they will control him for two years instead of just one. Let's just say, for example, the Baltimore Orioles want to trade for him. Don't you think they'd be willing to give up more to get him for two years, instead of only one...and knowing that after next season there's a chance a team like the Red Sox could swoop him and offer him a bigger deal than the Orioles will want to match?
  19. I agree. Every other team has pulled stuff like this before. It's not like we're the Pittsburgh Pirates anymore. If they can do something to benefit the team long term, it has to happen. I'll be very disappointed if they call Hardy back up early just as some meaningless empty gesture.
  20. It makes sense because the place is a urine soaked garbage dump. It's the most historic sewer in all of America. Actually, most sewers serve a purpose at least.
  21. It's refreshing, at the very least. I did hear Melvin acknowledge the other day during an interview that Mike Rivera hadn't gotten any real chance to prove himself in his tenure with the Brewers. Maybe they're finally realizing their oversight in not playing "Mighty Mike" more often.
  22. Doesn't sound like anything is going to happen as far as a Davis to Milwaukee deal. Not really that disappointing at this point in this season.
  23. Maybe Lopez is taking fielding tips from Milton Bradley. Seriously though, at least they won a darn game. Let's do it again tomorrow.
  24. Anyone think there's a chance Hall gets traded somehow yet? Melvin's comments yesterday kind of hinted at it, saying a few teams had called about him. Would be really nice if the Brewers don't have to pay his whole salary next year, or at least swap for someone decent with a similar contract.
