  1. I guess the more I look at it, I tend to agree. They're in last place in a competitive division, and the chances that they'll crawl back to the top seem slim at this point, especially with Detroit seemingly starting to run away with things. The Wild Card isn't a realistic option for them either. I think from a fan perspective, they might be leery of trading Lee before the off-season. Trading him in the next month obviously signals that they're throwing in the towel on this season, and their fans might react badly. Plus the fact that they would be trading their top pitcher the second year in a row. I think if they do move him, it's going to be for quite the haul, one I'm not sure the Brewers are prepared to meet.
  2. Well, at the beginning of the year the hitters were looking really good and everyone was praising Sveum. I doubt he's changed his philosophy with the players that much in the past couple months that many of them have suddenly become .200-ish hitters. Sometimes you really do have to blame the players for their own poor play.
  3. I agree. It seems like people are trying to set this up as a reason for the Brewers losing, when it's been the same way ever since the stadium opened. Maybe people are just noticing it more for some reason.
  4. Well, I think it's apparent at this point that Parra being in Nashville right now is the best thing for both him and the Brewers. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not even brought back before September right now. It's clear he has to work through some issues and leaving him to get shelled started after started wasn't doing the team any good.
  5. I agree, Bklyn. I think one of the most frustrating things is that if the Brewers had just played a bit better the last couple weeks, or had some hits fall their way, they could have created some real separation in the standings.
  6. I've had shoulder pain for a while now which has seemed to spread down to my lower back for some reason. Getting up in the morning and feeling like you have to force yourself to move is not fun. I'm seeing a therapist for the shoulder, which seems to be helping, but the back pain doesn't seem to get better with it. I have no idea what the issue is, since I haven't been doing any heavy lifting or anything like that. It seems like I'm living on ibuprofren. Haven't done any serious workouts either for almost three months, so that's not a cause. It sucks.
  7. I guess one thing that frustrates me a bit is that it was obvious we were not going to be able to count on these five pitchers to carry us the entire year. Not having someone who you can reliably take out of the bullpen and insert into the rotation, or having someone waiting in the wings in Nashville was a bit shortsighted, I think. I know there wasn't much out there in terms of free agency or the trade market during the off season that Melvin could realistically get...but how many teams use the same five starters the entire season? I would guess virtually none. It was a forgone conclusion that someone would be bad, or get injured, and have to be replaced.
  8. I'm not an architect or anything but I would guess that adding a "sun shield" like that would be both difficult on a finished building and also quite expensive. As far as A/C, I can't imagine a system would be that efficient. There's all sorts of gaps and such for air to escape out of the stadium. I guess I would also say that if you're at a day game in July or August you should expect it to be fairly hot anyway.
  9. Just looking at the standings today, it's crazy how tight this division is. Even though Houston and Pittsburgh are both down at the bottom, each team is only 3 games below .500, and only 4 games back from the Brewers. So, you can't say anyone has an unrealistic chance at this point, based on the standings.
  10. Yeah, I don't think there's any realistic way we'll get Lee at this point. He's basically the best starter currently pitching that "might" be available. I'm not even sure Cleveland is actually looking to move him at this point. Probably time to set our sights a bit lower if we still expect Melvin to make a move for pitching.
  11. I was at the game as well. I would have to guess it was split about 50/50 as far as fans in the stands. More White Sox fans than I expected, but they were mostly well behaved from what I saw. Most of the razzing I heard after the game was more of the friendly variety than anything. There was one tasteless chant from some Sox fans in our section at one point, but it died pretty quick. Really, the Brewers got some bad breaks in this one. They were hitting some lasers off Buehrle that simply kept going right at the Sox defenders. Really the Brewers should've had at least a couple more hits than they ended up with.
  12. What about Jarrod Washburn? He would probably not cost too much since I believe he's a free agent after this season. Not really an ace, but he could help a team like the Brewers right now.
  13. Yeah, Gamel hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire yet. That said, Bill Hall is just terrible at the plate right now. So is Hardy as well (though he is at least making solid contact). It's so frustrating how this team has become so weak offensively in the last couple weeks.
  14. I actually like AJ a lot. Good solid catcher with some pop in his bat. That said, I doubt the Brewers could get him from the ChiSox.
  15. Really amusing stuff here. http://joeposnanski.com/JoeBlog/2009/06/11/seeing-seagulls-by-the-lakeshore/ "The Kansas City Royals lost Thursday night when the game-winning hit bounced off a seagull."
  16. That reminds me of a story I heard from a few years back. I don't remember all the details exactly, but the Reds had some highly touted pitching prospect. He was with them for spring training, and was brought in to pitch an inning during a game. He had a pretty good outing, with at least one strike out and I think a couple ground outs. Afterward a reporter asked him about his showing and he remarked, "I dominated them." Ken Griffey Jr. quipped about what an honor it was to play with "a future Hall of Famer". Anyway, the kid ended up not making it and was out of baseball a couple years later.
  17. Now being said that Peavy could miss 8-12 weeks. I'm sure the Padres are unhappy at this point.
  18. Adam McCalvy reports Parra was indeed optioned to Nashville after the game. Chris Narveson called up.
  19. Per McCalvy: Parra optioned to AAA Nashville. LHP Chris Narveson up.
  20. I just know that if we were to re-acquire Davis, he would go back to being his old self once back at Miller Park. Yeah, I have nothing to back that up, but there's no doubt in my mind.
  21. I constantly questioned during the off-season the concept of having two young and relatively inexperienced pitchers basically anchor the rotation this season. Yovani has stepped up and done his part, Parra has become the polar opposite. I don't care who they throw in, whether it's Dillard or some scrap heap pickup. They can't be much worse than Manny Parra at this point.
  22. It just seems like whenever SI or ESPN try to latch onto some kid as the next big thing, there are probably about 10 who never become anything big to every one LeBron James type. Remember Freddy Adu, for example?
  23. I bet even tinting all those windows (if such a thing is possible) would be quite expensive.
  24. Yeah, I don't get why he would be shamed of having been a lovable TV character. It's more than many people have done with their lives. I suppose it would get old, having people want you to act like a TV character, though.
  25. What people have to realize is that the roof is closed with marginal weather to make the place more comfortable for the casual fans who would probably complain if it's a bit too cold. If it makes the team more money in the long run, then I'm all for it.
