  1. I think leaving Soup in was justified because of how worn the bullpen has been lately. Fortunately it paid off.
  2. Yeah, I read a bit of the stuff over there. Kind of weird all around, that's the only way I can put it. Anyway, I would guess the recent rash of injuries to starters has put some of this talk about trading for a front line pitcher on hold. I'm sure Melvin is still working the phones and something will happen eventually, though.
  3. The difference between a "number one" and an "ace" is that the #1 guy just happens to pitch at the front of his rotation. A true ace will consistently put up very good to great performances throughout a season, and almost always give his team a strong chance to win. They will also have an established track record of success. I would pretty much agree with Ennder's list based on those criteria.
  4. Tom Haudricourt not sugar coating his thoughts on the matter (from Twitter): E-mailers asking me why I haven't picked up on local internet rumor that Brewers have "imminent" trade. I think the answer is obvious. If I had a dollar for every internet trade rumor that was completely false, I could buy the Brewers and make any trade I wanted. I'll report on "imminent" trade rumor when I think there is an iota of truth to it. And do those sites ever admit they were wrong? No.
  5. I miss seeing the White Sox play the Brewers regularly. If I had my way (and I never will) every team would play every other team.
  6. Yeah, I can't believe they'll wait for Peavy at this point, if he was even being talked about to begin with. Sounds like he'll be gone at least a month.
  7. Yes, but think how much more in demands Brewers tickets are than Bucks tickets right now (at least I assume).
  8. All right Brewers, let's kick it in gear. Tonight is the night when the losing streak ends.
  9. It really just makes me more and more mad, thinking about ESPN and their stupidity. I don't even watch that channel regularly anymore, and with good reason as demonstrated in this thread, I think.
  10. Sounds like Peavy's DL stint has been reported on a San Diego station, per tweetings, but hasn't been officially confirmed anywhere else yet. Maybe he's just missing one start or something?
  11. Even last year when the Brewers won the Wild Card on the last day of the season, I remember right after the Mets lost, they showed a retrospective video of Shea Stadium and basically glossed over the Brewers actually winning a playoff spot. crewcrazy: I vaguely remember something similar happening in either '05 or '06 I believe...they were showing Wild Card contender rankings toward the end of the season, and actually skipped the Brewers and showed the Cubs next on the list. It was really maddening. Yeah, everyone knew the Brewers only had an outside shot by that point, but to outright skip them was really embarassing.
  12. Right, that makes sense. But a guy like Webb? I just can't really see it right now. If they're trying to trade for a starting pitcher, it's presumably because they want someone who is sure to help them win this season, not next season or to build depth for the future (not that such a thing wouldn't be a nice after-effect).
  13. To those that messaged me, thanks...I ended up buying a couple tickets from brucrustu.
  14. I can't think Melvin would trade for someone coming off the DL, unless it's for a really meager package. You just never know how a guy coming off injury will perform, especially a starting pitcher.
  15. Kruk predicted on the air that by the end of a certain month (maybe last May?) the Pirates would be ahead of the Brewers. It was panned as a ridiculous prediction, and then in a radio interview a day or so later, Kruk admitted one of his producers forced him to say it. The East Coast bias at ESPN and other places is quite real. They seem to often not have a clue of what's really happening outside the AL & NL East. I recall a radio interview Matt Vasgersian did not long ago where he said they really strive at MLB Network to cover all the teams, but even there they have to reign it in a bit.
  16. Usually by the time physicals are needed, we've already heard that the deal is basically done. My guess is that if something is "pending" at this point, they're hashing out what minor leaguers might be exchanged, etc. If the deal involves Jake Peavy, he would have to officially waive his no trade clause too, I guess. Total speculation on my part, though.
  17. Yeah, it seems to be a forgone conclusion that the AL Wild Card will be coming out of the East yet again. However, is it really impossible to think the Angels could overcome the Rangers? The Rangers seem to have a recent history of flirting with contention, and then fading down the stretch.
  18. I saw this segment last night, but was too tired to post. I noticed they basically didn't mention the Brewers at all, like yoyo said. It seemed like they were all assuming there was no possible way they can hold onto first place, and assume either the Cards, Cubs, or Reds would overtake the whole division. In fact, their little "desk graphic" didn't even have the Brewers logo, and showed the other three teams, though. One guy (sorry, forget who), was also raving about the Astros' defense. It was weird. Does ESPN really just hate the idea of the Brewers making the playoffs again, or do they really think this team is just not for real at all, and will likely be in fourth place by August?
  19. Wow, I really don't remember the Jemile Weeks fiasco. I guess I may have just overlooked that one whenever it happened. The only time I remember a pretty much baseless rumor really getting out of hand here was the whole Adam Dunn debacle from a couple years ago. To be fair though, that wasn't really generated by anyone officially connected with the site, at least that I remember. It was more due to people posting irresponsible stuff like "A friend of a friend just said they saw someone run out of the bullpen into the clubhouse!" or whatever. Also a certain radio station not really getting their sources straightened out...but that's neither here nor there.
  20. I don't like the idea of Brad Penny because he isn't really an upgrade over what we have now. Peavy would be huge for this team right now, but I fear what his contract would do for the team going forward after this season.
  21. Would they really be looking to sell yet, though? I know the Rangers are on fire right now, but the Angels are still in second place in the AL West.
  22. I thought I had heard 65 or so. Yesterday's weather was odd. In the parking lot before the game, it felt somewhat chilly with the wind, but then when the wind died down it felt fairly warm. I think yesterday was just one of those borderline kind of days where they probably decided to keep it closed.
  23. Kind of weird that no one else seems to be talking about this. Nothing on Haudricourt's blog yet, and nothing on MLB Trade Rumors. I'm sure Brian's sources here were solid, but hopefully no one jumped the gun on this. Edit: I would also add that I think any talk of Roy Halladay being traded is a pipe dream at this point. His team is only 3 games out of first place, and it's only mid-June. We'd have to gut our farm system to get him, and I doubt Toronto is going to throw in the towel on this season just yet.
  24. Thats a great point. I thought it was confusing that we took a catcher in the 2nd round when we already have Salome and Lucroy in the upper levels of our system but it mightve been a precursor to a deal along with the two college pitchers we took. I wonder if a deal like the one below could come to fruition since we theoritically drafted there replacements. Parra = Peavy Jeffress = Arnett Salome / Lucroy = Garfield Dillard or A+ ball or below pitcher = Heckathorn I think it makes too much sense to happen though. They want mlb ready pitching and they get 2 in return right away with Parra and Dillard along with Jeffress who still has incredible upside thrown in with a good catcher for a team that has appears to be lacking in the catching department. Lorenzo Cain, Cole Gillespie or Caleb Gindl might make sense also with Brian Giles getting old but they seem to be sitting pretty good in the outfield department in the minors. So what do you guys think? Does Peavy for Parra, Jeffress, Salome/Lucroy and Dillard sound fair? I probably wouldn't trade more than two of Parra/Jeffress/Dillard, simply because I wouldn't want to gut our potential pitching we'd have available if someone gets injured. Other than that I think your proposal is realistic.
  25. Or maybe people are just tired of hearing about it in general? A baseball player having used steroids isn't really that shocking anymore. We've become pretty much desensitized to the issue.
