  1. I agree with this reasoning to a point...but doesn't that lead you to think we _should_ trade for a guy like Peavy? It would be nice to be paying a guy like that rather than paying a couple barely above replacement guys like Suppan and Looper basically the same amount (or even a little more).
  2. We just got swept but we're still tied for first place with the team we're playing starting today, in our home park. I'll take it.
  3. I'm not sure if the payroll concerns are that legitimate. A lot of payroll will be coming off this year and next year. Right now the team only has about $45 million commited next season, and about $32 million in 2011. I realize arby cases will make those numbers go up, but I think if the team wanted to, they could afford the $15 million or so per year for Peavy. I do get the injury concerns, as he's getting older. I also think he isn't quite as good as some make him out to be. But man, a Peavy/Gallardo combo at the top of the rotation would be huge, at least in the short term.
  4. I'm confused...why would they be losing Parra at the end of the year? Also they have a team option on looper for next season, at least according to the contract info on this site.
  5. Probably been discussed to death already, but I tried Fat Tire for the first time the other day (local bar was making a big deal about the fact they're now carrying it). Big 22 oz bottle, served in a special glass. I didn't get what the big deal was, to be honest. Seemed like a fairly bland amber ale. Guess I just didn't care for it too much personally.
  6. That's pretty hilarious. Really, especially for baseball, I would think you could get all the news you want on a site like MLB Trade Rumors.
  7. Yeah, I know that...I just have a feeling that after last night's pounding, the Brewers' bats will come back ablaze and light this guy up. Just a hunch I have.
  8. The good news is that they're facing a guy who's never pitched before in the majors (Anthony Swarzak), so they have a good shot of going into Sunday for a "rubber match".
  9. If Parra was pitching like Doug Davis right now, I'd be ecstatic. ERA under 4.00 and a 1.28 WHIP.
  10. Oswalt is intriguing, but I don't get the feeling the Astros will be willing to throw in the towel and go into rebuild mode right now. He is also getting paid in that $15-16 million range over the next three seasons, so that might dissuade Milwaukee from trying to get him. Houston probably doesn't want to trade him within the division, either.
  11. I think it's a good indicator that the Brewers are making the maximum possible from their fan base, and that Mark Attanasio has done a great job since buying the team. Beyond that, I don't know if it means much. Also, the remark about the Yankees seems way off base. So what if the Yankees "only" get $45.00 per fan. They probably have about 10x the fan base that the Brewers do, so they're still coming out way ahead.
  12. That's basically how I'd rank them. The thing that hurts Fielder is that he's fairly one dimensional and not a good defender.
  13. It's worth noting that Harden is probably only going to be gone for a couple weeks...doesn't necessarily mandate they acquire another SP.
  14. I wonder how often stuff like that happens. I bet a lot more, recently.
  15. Where I live (Fort Atkinson) there are a lot of houses in that 200,000 range that are less than 10 years old for sale, with prices already being cut significantly. Nice big houses too. Guess a lot of people can't afford those mortgages anymore.
  16. Well, after last night's outing, I think this warrants more discussion. Right now I personally have the least confidence in Parra out of our whole starting rotation. I feel more confident that Suppan will give the Brewers a chance to win than Manny will at this point. Here's his current line through 8 starts: W-L 3-4, IP 43.1, ERA 4.57, WHIP 1.592, ERA+ 96. Overall those numbers are not completely horrible, but he's not looking like the upper rotation guy many have predicted. He's looking like a #5 pitcher right now. I think if Melvin can get a good SP via trade, anyone who questions Manny being the one moved to the bullpen would not be looking at the facts.
  17. My only beef with the channel is that Charter has it in their digital package, so I can only get it in the living room but not upstairs in our bedroom. I'd get another cable box for our bedroom, but Charter wants to rake me over the coals on that one. Ah well, still a good channel when I get to watch it.
  18. Didn't Sveum have some injuries that probably played a factor with that, though? Anyway, that's not really relevant to this conversation I'd guess.
  19. With Harden going down for the Cubs, I kind of hope Melvin is at least talking to Towers about Peavy. I really don't want to see the Cubs try to get him to replace Harden this season. I know the Cubs probably don't have the right package to get a deal done, but you never know. They always seem to luck into good trades.
  20. Yeah, the latest reports say that the Cubs' ownership situation won't be settled until sometime in August, which is after the trading deadline.
  21. I agree (well, of course, I started that other thread on this very idea). I just like the idea of getting a guy like Lee who is a great pitcher and would be more than a rental, but at the same time we wouldn't be tied to for several years to come.
  22. It's a tough one...but out of the four players I get the feeling Braun has the highest ceiling, so I would stick with our guys. Of course, I'm a bit biased on this.
  23. I would say Hall is very good defensively. He still has value, it's just that he's overpaid right now given his current performance in the batter's box, so any discussion of him being traded is pretty moot.
  24. I feel the same. If Melvin could trade him right now for something valuable, I'd be all for it.
  25. The Brewers would probably have to give up Parra, Jeffress, Escobar, and maybe one or two others to make it happen with San Diego. I'd rather see them make a bit smaller deal for someone like Cliff Lee (someone with lower salary on a shorter term contract). I think Peavy won't be as good away from Petco.
