  1. Come on guys...these kinds of semantics arguments hurt my head after a while. Knock it off already.
  2. Heard Roberts talking about all this on the radio today (it was either on Rome or Patrick, forget which). Anyway, she seemed pretty sure of herself, and didn't strike me as just someone trying to stir the pot, for whatever that's worth.
  3. I've never gotten why the Woodchucks aren't be called "The Wausau Woodchucks." Sounds fine, and I somehow doubt people from all over the state are driving in to see their games. Probably could say the same thing about the Timber Rattlers (which is also kind of a silly name). "New England Patriots" is another one of such a dubious nature.
  4. I really don't get how you can possibly say that with any certainty. I doubt all our young guys will be walking away when their arby years are done. It's not realistic to expect Braun will be the only young guy the Brewers keep. At least one other guy will be saying "You know what, I like this team and I want to stay." Maybe Hardy, maybe Hart, maybe Weeks. I don't know for sure. Anyway, it's not like even Fielder and Hardy are gone after this year, and in Hardy's case we have a young exciting replacement waiting in the wings. If you're looking three years down the road, I think you'll just drive yourself nuts, all the time. So much can change year to year that if you try to plan that far ahead, you'll probably get burned more often than not in the world of pro sports. Anyway, how does trading LaPorta change anything in regards to signing or not signing the guys we still have?
  5. Haudricourt reports that Hall is out tonight, but Braun will be starting.
  6. Culver's is probably my favorite fast food burger as well. As far as pubs and stuff, most of the places in my neck of the woods at least have a decent burger. Hard to pick a favorite, honestly.
  7. If we're even going to talk about Gamel in LF, he should start getting some appearances in the OF pretty soon if the Brewers want to consider that as a viable option.
  8. I prefer the NL "style" a bit too...but I think eventually enough owners will pressure the league to make the change. As silly as Hank (Hal?) Steinbrenner's rant was last season after Wang got hurt running the bases, I think owners will get tired of risking their high investments on pitchers in a somewhat needless fashion.
  9. One thing I don't like is the characterization that all DHs are "fat beer league softball players." One of the greatest DHs of all time was our own Paul Molitor, and I don't think he would be placed in that category by anyone.
  10. OK, my bad. Rotoworld has it wrong, saying he's a FA in 2011. Turns out it's not until 2012 (assuming the info on this site is correct). Too early to worry about it then, unless Melvin decides to try and buy out those last couple arby years or something.
  11. I'm probably going to just try and get one of the regular ones, seeing how sketchy these talking ones sound.
  12. endaround: It's not about "manning up"...he is perfectly healthy at this point (unless I've totally missed something), and given that the "ace" of this team is 23 years old, every starter has to deliver what's expected. He's not a young rookie anymore. That said, I don't have any problem with him being skipped on a start here or there, when the schedule dictates.
  13. I don't think there's anything wrong with it...when a player is running the bases, it's probably hard to tell what's exactly happening with an outfielder. It's more up to the base coaches to tell him to keep running, or to hold up.
  14. So when do the Brewers start looking at possibly extending Weeks the way he's going? Or do folks think the team has cheap options in AAA that should put up similar production in a year or so? I can't believe I'm bringing this up...if you had asked me this off-season, I would have assumed they would likely let him walk after next season. Now I'm not so sure, the way he's been playing.
  15. Crew07: I understand all of that and agree with you to a point. But, I think given how much of a premium is paid on pitching these days, putting teams in the NL at more of a risk to lose out on that investment is somewhat unfair. I'm not necessarily in favor of bringing the DH to the NL, either. I just think it's somewhat inevitable that it will happen due to the economics of the game.
  16. Stuff like this is eventually going to lead to the DH in the NL, I have a feeling.
  17. I don't remember that many people predicting a Sheets injuryy. If anything, his performance during the majority of the season was making people defend him more vehemently than ever. "He's not injury prone!" etc. Heck, even after it came out during this spring that he would be having surgery and not signing with anyone right away, a small minority on this board were saying Melvin should still try to sign him to a multi-year deal...
  18. I'd love to get one of these, but the only one I see on eBay is at almost $150 now with five days left on the auction. That's too steep even for a huge Braun fan like myself.
  19. He caught it in mid air basically. Looked pretty amazing to me. Shoot, I hope he's not hurt now. Balls are just dying towards that warning track so far. Also, chat is on. Let's get a nice game chat going, folks!
  20. Wish we'd get some HD games. At least the analog picture is a bit better this year. Bill Hall looking good in left so far.
  21. I just read something recently (I think it was on Haudricourt's blog, or maybe it was here) that made it sound like the Brewers had dropped any idea of Hart possibly moving to CF eventually.
  22. Latest from Haudricourt's blog is that Braun stayed in Milwaukee after yesterday's game and had an MRI "which was negative for structural damage." Bill Hall will be starting in LF tonight in Pittsburgh. Casy McGehee will play 3B. Well, at lease the news on Braun is positive so far.
  23. The thing that bugged me about the Washington Nationals name was that in the All-Star game, the announcers would sometimes refer to the two teams as "the Americans" and "the Nationals." Now they obviously can't do that. I do agree wtih NeedMoreFans that it just seems like they could have done a bit better. Washington has had teams before, after all. I know they couldn't use the Senators name (the Rangers retain the rights to it, I guess), but maybe they could have used the old Negro League team name (Grays) or something.
