  1. OK everyone, we are officially on for March 2nd at Friday's at Miller Park. I called and did reserve a group of tables for 7 PM that evening. Thanks to hawing for reminding me to make the call, as this is coming up in less than two weeks! Hopefully we can get a good group of people again this year!
  2. I would like to see Hunter Morris given a good shot. I really don't see what the Brewers have to lose at this point. It's a better option in my mind than some sort of platoon involving Alex Gonzalez and Taylor Green. As for Mat Gamel, you have to figure his MLB career is effectively over.
  3. Sounds like they were just being extra cautious with Gamel, which is understandable.
  4. Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed that some fans are ready to run Braun out of town on a rail based on some flimsy pieces of notebook paper not given any further context. He's the greatest player this franchise has ever seen. I'll put up with a bit of manufactured drama from a future Hall of Fame caliber player. The loser types can boo him. I don't care.
  5. I'm convinced this talk of Brewers being possible suitors for Lohse is just more Scott Boras posturing to play up his value. There's a reason no one has signed him yet, and I'm glad the Brewers aren't going to (at least I hope they're not going to).
  6. I thought I recalled reading an article not too long ago that said the insurance rates were getting so expensive that teams weren't doing that anymore. I could be mistaken, but I feel like I remember reading that.
  7. That's fine for some people...but I would agree with Patrick's general sentiments. The ideal tax situation is to "break even" every year. No refund, and no need to pay in more. That means you keep every dime you need and keep it working for you, without having to come up with "extra" at the end of the tax year. Edit: Also, you can in fact be penalized for knowingly underpaying your taxes.
  8. Hernandez has apparently said in the past that he wanted to stay in Seattle, so I guess this proves it. Just another reason why the Brewers won't be signing Gallardo long term, though.
  9. Well, it would be nice if MLB would release their side of last year's Braun issue, but of course they never will.
  10. Well, I personally believe Ryan Braun's story and take his word over some random idiots' speculation.
  11. Well, he has an awesome name at least.
  12. I just don't see the Brewers dealing Gallardo at all, even if the team is tanking. It's just not a Melvin type of move to make.
  13. Well, as far as the cycling of talent, I'd like to think that if the team is in the tank around the All-Star break, Melvin will seriously consider dealing the likes of Hart, Weeks, etc. I'm not sure ownership will allow it (and I've been pretty pro-Attanasio for the most part). Time will tell, though. I agree that I would have liked to see more aggressive picks in last year's draft. As far as international talent, my assumption was that the cost of international scouting was prohibitive in the past. I'm not sure that's still the case...you look at what teams like Pittsburgh are doing, and it doesn't seem like it should break the bank for a successful franchise like Milwaukee.
  14. I guess the question is, "How much do the failures of Arnett and Covey reflect on Seid?" I don't think anyone can begrudge him for what happened with Covey. The guy had an unknown health issue that seemed to be found out literally last minute. Arnett is a bit more of a black mark on his track record.
  15. Basically everyone even semi noteworthy noteworthy is in the Packer Hall of Fame, so that's a no brainer. I could see him being on the Ring of Honor, but I admit I'm a huge Driver fan so I'm biased.
  16. Well that's definitely good news. I guess he's not "sand bagging it."
  17. How about we shoot for Friday's at Miller Park on Saturday, March 2nd? I don't think reserving the room is in order...like hawing said, we usually get no more than 15 or so people anyway. I will make a call there in the next few days to check on it unless anyone has any strenuous objections.
  18. That's a good point. He probably doesn't feel he really "owes" anything to the folks in New York at this point.
  19. I'm sure that's exactly it. Maybe you just need to tell him, "Either my full paycheck is in my hands by next week, or I'm going to the newspaper with your name."
  20. Yeah, you might be able to get a lawyer to send this guy a letter stating your intent to sue if you aren't paid within X amount of days. That will likely be enough to get things moving.
  21. Maybe he'll just bean him.
  22. Yeah, the idea of moving Ramirez to first base is all fan driven (sort of like the talk of moving Weeks to the outfield years ago). He played solid defense last year, so the team isn't going to do it unless he suddenly fall off the cliff in terms of his glove.
  23. Roenicke isn't Macha. He knows Segura is our current and future starter at SS, so he isn't going to bench him if he gets off to a slow start. I could see Gonzalez getting one or maybe even two starts a week once in a while, though.
  24. re: Kyle Lohse, I agree with the sentiment that he's not worth giving up a draft pick for. He just screams "Signing that will inevitably blow up in the Brewers' faces."
