    I understand that he has the option to be sent down and Bryse doesn’t but…..keeping Bryse Wilson in favor of him does not make a lot of sense to me, unless it is going to be for a very brief amount of time. Anderson has performed admirably these past couple years.

    There are not many similar prospects. There are very few teenaged switch hitters who have put up the numbers he has, specifically his batted ball data, and specifically almost always as the youngest player in his league.

    Pena’s ability to work walks and understand the strike zone is improving but in many ways has been below average. Made’s ability in understanding the strike zone is…..preternatural. Made also appears to be one of those once in a decade players who is literally equally good from both sides of the plate. Add in the much better defense, and Pena’s CONSISTENT inability to take the field throughout his entire career so far, and it’s really not even close. For a number of reasons, talent aside, Made is so much closer to a “sure thing” than Pena. He’s also a half a year younger than Pena! I understand what you are saying, but Made is the best prospect in the league, and is putting up historical numbers at his age so far. Throughout history you won’t find many switch hitting teenagers doing what he is able to do at AA right now, including a banner night tonight!

    The Brewers have shown a better aptitude than just about any team at teaching guys to play 3rd on the fly. He has a left side of the field arm with athleticism…..don’t think its really that big of a road block.

    I really do want the Brewers to stop hoarding prospects and make at least one serious addition. A Contreras or Adames caliber addition. I know the prospect price could be high - the farm system has unprecedented depth. It’s time to use it. Still, I simply have zero appetite for moving Made in any situation. I think he has Chourio level talent with an ability to consistently put together good ABs (unlike Chourio so far) , with a preternatural feel for the strike zone. There is no situation where I would like to see him moved. Lastly, why is converting Abrams to 3rd seemingly never talked about. He plays the left side of the field and had left side of the field arm strength, with plenty of athleticism. I think Matt Erickson and the boys can make that work.

    The Brewers have done this with good success on several talented pitchers early in their career. A bullpen role completely changes the first inning struggles issue. Getting loose is entirely different and you are not rationing your stuff or waiting to break out a secondary pitch for later in the game. In a one or two inning role Sproat would likely be cresting 100 mph regularly. Streamlining arsenals often helps “younger” pitchers with control issues as well. Another way this could help - Sproat has an absurdly fantastic move to first base for a righty, but as we saw last night multiple times, he just stopped paying attention to the runner. The mental aspect of the game is obviously overwhelming Sproat right now. A bulldog one inning mentality is often a remedy for such. Also getting some success in the big leagues could do wonders for his flagging confidence. This is a no brainer. He will not come close to starting a playoff game for the Crew this year. A demotion to the minors could have negative effects on his confidence as well. Splitting the difference in the bullpen makes perfect sense. Generally speaking Matthew’s prognostications are pretty spot on, and I have faith this will follow suit.

    It’s shocking to me that more people don’t see how valuable he would be to the left side the Brewers infield, which has seen a paucity of offense this year, albeit solid as of late. It’s not uncommon for struggling defensive shortstops to play really good defense at 3rd base. It’a also not uncommon for anyone to play a good 3rd base under the tutelage of Matt Erickson et al….. The jolt and over the fence pop plus speed he would put in the lineup would be stunning. This is the kind of addition that helps you avoid hardly scoring a run in an entire playoff series. Lastly, I fear this may be the best time to sell on Pena; he is universally praised as a prospect but his inability to be available for games is getting to be profound. And it’s not just this year. Skubal for 2 months is the exact kind of trade I would loath to see the Brewers use Pena in however. The Brewers are not that kind of organization thank goodness.

    Let’s put it this way - none of them put their team over the top. The point is that when you are a top tier team, trying to improve around the very tip of the margins is not going to change anything come playoff time. They could use their almost history setting farm system to make significant improvements. Guys like, Rosenthal, Canha, Shelby Miller, and “cromulent” 4th to 5th outfielders is not what they need to be laser focused on. Arnold and his team shouldn’t be waking up of a morning and thinking “which injured way-past-his-prime pitcher can we acquire that could maybe get healthy and maybe catch lightning in a bottle”. They should be thinking “What move can we make that can change the complexion of a series against the Dodgers, who treated us like children in the playoffs last year?”

    As much as I blame the owner for being cheap, this is Arnold’s one notable fault. He hoards prospects to the point of damn near congesting the system. Instead of ever parting with a good prospect for a good return near the deadline, he always attempts these weird ways to improve marginally. Pretty much none of his tradeline acquisitions have worked. The Brewers don’t need to improve marginally. They need someone who can help them compete in a series with the Dodgers. They could trade for a great young controllable player and still have the best farm system in ball. These Shelby Miller type trade’s are so lame and show such an obsessive aversion of ever trading a real prospect from depth.

    Hope he’s ok for his career’s sake. As for him with the Brewers, every time he pitches I am shocked he is trusted to go out there. He’s one of those guys where every time the ball leaves his hand I think “surely there is someone, somewhere, in our minor leagues or in another organization who can pitch better than this”.

    Usually I’m on board with what Murphy does, but as the head coach he has categorically botched the challenging mechanism with his team. The vast majority of his team, even leaders such as Yelich, Turang, and Chourio virtually operate as if the challenge is not an option, no matter the time or situation. Meanwhile his two catchers continue to be as frivolous and cavalier with their challenges as anyone in the league. The job Murphy and his staff have done with this new tool is appalling. Especially for an innovative organization.

    Every time he bats I hold out a small semblance of hope that he will not try to back foot/go down on a knee pull the ball and instead try to go the other way and be the slap hitter he is - alas I am always disappointed. Also I haven’t tracked his foot speed but he looks slower in all facets this year and is FAR from a menace on the basepaths.

    Uribe showed steel nerves tonight. Essentially got 5 outs. He had the determined countenance we saw on his face often last year…..maybe this whole thing will help him focus in this year. I love Bauers - one thing I will say is after being a good glovesman at first base for years, he has been pitiful this year. He legit has a lot of errors. Obviously a terrible throw by Ortiz, but Bauers didn’t even come within inches of it. Strange. Megill’s fastball maybe has ticked up a tiny bit, but for whatever reason it seems so much harder to pick up than it did the first weeks of the season. Love seeing him and Uribe locked in! Great win even when you play kinda bad. Good game for Chourio. Also would much rather see Murph pinch hit for Frelick than Mitchell right now.

    This is why Matt is the best. That several Brewers fans on this forum didn’t like Uribe’s gesture was not surprising and makes perfect sense. That some were willing to call him an outright bald faced liar, and not even consider that he had any reason or justification whatsoever for going over the top - bespeaks perhaps something a bit more pernicious with their mindset. I wonder if the people defending the Cardinals’ honor while at the same time besmirching Uribe’s, will still not even admit to themselves one tiny bit that they could have been wrong in their assessment after reading Trueblood’s in-depth investigations and analysis.

    Good to see Trevor Mac hit 100mph on that last pitch. Also very pleased with Chandler Patrick making a really good spot start. He wasn’t just an opener. Also Mitchell’s approach on last night’s home run and today’s double is awesome.

    Totally understandable to disagree or even disapprove of how he handled it! Just wild to believe he went out and completely contrived an entire fabrication that he is putting on record in front of his teammates! The Cardinals have done this much more recently than over a decade ago!! See: Willson Contreras. They are accepted as the most bush league team in sports…..a Brewers fan of all people should know this. By the way, Murphy is pissed. Can you imagine how apoplectic he would be if he found out Abner just went out and started a lie about the other team after this!?? That would make things so much worse for Abner. Watch the video. He seems somber and takes ownership. This would be a pretty insane lie that he just thought up in detail on the fly!

If it’s just incomprehensible wanton immaturity, why didn’t Abner randomly do this two weeks ago or a month ago? It’s peculiar that you refused to believe he may have been responding to something…..
