  1. It is a big outlay but since it’s only for a year, maybe Mark was willing to spend it due to it being a special franchise icon, extremely short term, and getting some extra playoff revenue. In fact, I could see Mark subtly bragging about said expenditure during Brewers On Deck or something.
  2. Well said. Although I’m putting Gasser well ahead of Myers, Ashby, and Hall on the starting pitching depth chart. And as far as Hall goes - he is so profoundly unreliable they should strongly consider just making him a one inning reliever at this point. His stuff would play up, he could pitch fewer innings, and when the Orioles put him in that position he had easily the most success he’s had in his career.
  3. I could see Pratt, Wilken, and Hendershot getting the job done for Buxton eh?
  4. Well, the GM always has the final say. And is mostly in charge of who runs the draft. So the responsibility/credit/blame does fall at his doorstep.
  5. A lot of times it takes those small guys a few years to learn how to keep their velocity throughout the long season. He also had never had much of a workload in the minors. I think this past year will be a great experience for him to have under his belt and boy I am bullish on him! Always leery of those damnable flexor strains though.
  6. Well, I have watched every game, not just one. Some games the refs have been downright absurd, such as the one to which you are referring. Some games they have been officiating the game in a pretty standard way. Green has been absolutely putrid on defense this year, and has two fouls per first quarter on top of that, every game. He of course will not shoot 49% over an entire season. Taurean Prince shot 44% from 3 last year and is another one trick pony and he, indeed, makes the minimum.
  7. Man this A.J. Green extension is not looking so wise right now. Obviously early but his stunning lack of athleticism and intelligence really limit him. Constant foul trouble, terrible defense, one trick pony on offense. Those kind of guys are generally worth the minimum or not much over.
  8. I definitely think they have to consider moving on from him (as much as I really like the guy) if he has any trade value. I’m not sure how much value he has on his own at this point, but maybe adding him in a package could help net something good. But I really don’t think they need to cut ties with him just for the sake of doing it. If he doesn’t have much trade value he absolutely should be kept, I am thinking.
  9. A quick question - Is Breckinridge really THAT good of a defender? I saw him make a lot of mistakes diving when he was playing a lot the first month he came over. Outside of that, I know he is good but isn’t Perkins CLEARLY a better defender in center? All offensive\platoon stuff aside.
  10. What a masterfully done analysis. Where else can you go to get an expertly crafted treatise on how to kick the Cubs ass?
  11. In a given series I think there will be a batted ball, maybe 2 in a 4 game series, that Ortiz gets to that Andruw may not. But in that series, that’s 12 to 16 plate appearances of Ortiz’ worst-in-league offense. It’s hard to cover up for a black hole like that in the playoffs on a team that is totally bereft of big boppers. Some of Ortiz’s pathetic swing decisions and chases in this series against the Padres bordered on disrespectful to his team and coaching staff. I am shocked Murph played him after his at-bats the first game of the series. He is a really good defender. But really, to play every single day on a division leading or plus team, bringing the worst offense in the league, you should pretty much be the best defender at your position in the league. I don’t even think he’s a top 5 defensive short stop. So happy they have shortstops in the pipeline ti replace him soon, if not next year.
  12. I like that roster but, if it’s a situation to get a tough righty out, I like the option of having the sidewinder Anderson probably over Patrick, as much as I like him.
  13. Man wonderful writeup. I love Matt and how he refuses to say Atlanta :)))
  14. Not embarrassing in the least! Literally probably one of the easiest spelling mistakes to make plus I had to double check to make sure I WASN’T wrong myself :)
  15. Calvary is a biblical hill, I believe. The hill of the dead or skulls or whatever. Hopefully, it is not coming :)
  16. Man I love me a platoon proof set-up man. I will also say - even though Miller doesn’t have much experience closing, I’m very relieved they got someone with at least a modest amount of recent closing experience. I am a big fan of Uribe, but I do not trust him yet mentally to close games if that need happened to arise.
  17. I actually normally wouldn’t mind this lineup at all against a lefty but Parker is better against righties? So I’m confused.
  18. The only thing that confuses me about that is Parker actually seems to be worse against lefties…..
  19. Great summation of this process. The only thing that genuinely confuses the heck out of me is - why did the Brewers have to give up Jorge Quintana to “give” the Padres a viable starting pitching candidate. Unlike taking on Montgomery, Cortes could possibly help the Padres. I feel like Jorge Quintana could be worth more than Lockridge alone.
  20. Shelby Miller’s injury history always concerns me, but this is a great add if he indeed will be ready to go soon. Can take major stress off Megill and Uribe’s arms as well.
  21. At some point you can hoard only so many prospects. After this past draft, they are gonna have a hard time finding room for some guys. They could and should easily do a Suarez style return for a setup man.
