  4. Honestly, I think the most important Packer development since the team won the superbowl deserves a bit of "shilling". I definitely appreciate your input, but I think this was a very special exception... and considering Brewerfan and LambeauLeap are "owned" by the same person (me), I would think that a little bit of cross-marketing would be acceptible... especially in this case. If you have other examples of where we circumvent the rules and you haven't been happy about it, we're certainly open to criticism. I always have an open ear, publicly and privately.

  6. I think there's a real communication disconnect here. There are people heavy into stats and therefore projections who trust in the reliability of large sample sizes over time to make predictions. While on the other hand, you have the smallest atomic level of baseball, a pitch, where anything can happen. It's like the disconnect between general relativity and quantum mechanics, and that's what makes baseball awesome. Over a large sample size, stats are usually a reliable representation of what happened. Over a few at-bats, stats are meaningless. I don't think you'll find any stat person here who says "I've got this all figured out, now playing the games is just an academic exercise". Data is data, no matter if it's baseball, population growth, or farming. Those who want or need to predict things will weigh stats into the equation very heavily... Those who choose to have an emotional connection to the game will favor other things. Neither of them are wrong, or stupid.
  7. I guess to the observer, it would seem that there's a pattern here with Rickie not getting hot until the final months of the season, but honestly, I think it's coincidence. I could see like a couple week lag for him to get adjusted, but I wouldn't be shocked if he had a scorching hot couple of months in the front-end of a season over the next couple.
  8. Seems like it would be the smartest move to keep Lawrie at catcher until he proves he can't. LuCroy and Salome are still far from sure-things, so no one's blocked yet. I don't think picking up playing 3B would take him all that long.
  9. Mmm..... big boy time. http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/museum/artifacts/archives/bigboy.jpg
  10. I'm just happy that Ned put Hardy in his place for snapping out of hit hitless streak last night. buh?
  11. He might be a Type B, but I think Durham would most likely accept arbitration.
  12. I agree. After that homer, he could have made "choo! choo!" sounds while pulling on an imaginary train whistle while rounding the bases, and I think it would have been appropriate.
  13. Honestly, if I was Haren, I would have just opted for FA at the end of next year. He would have been in his prime, and with another good year would have probably pushed 18M per year. But hey, it's hard to turn down money now though. Every pitcher's just a torn rotator cuff away from being out of baseball.
  14. I guess part of it is that there was less of an expectation "back in the day", and people wouldn't freak out over every win and loss. We also had a very self-policing userbase, and the whole idea of issuing "warnings" and "strikes" was completely foreign. Yes, there were less threads and fewer posts, but there were also much fewer one-liners and people repeating the same opinion over and over, because there was less noise to feel you had to "yell" through. At the same time, I do enjoy the site's popularity these days. The biggest thing I enjoy is watching someone come in with a certain level of interest and knowledge about the team and the sports, and then clearly grow in that interest as time goes on. I enjoy "read it on brewerfan" becoming common vernacular for a lot of fans, players, and media-type people. Rolling with the site's growth is the biggest challenge we've faced to date. We've implemented more rigid rules, and made it more challenging to apply for access (you now have to fill out an application, where we expect something more than "YOST BLOWZ! LET ME IN!". We've added a slew of moderators as well, as the sheer volume of posting has become overwhelming to moderate. I really, really feel that changes need to be made within the userbase. I'd prefer that it would be communicating to users what our expectations are, but obviously removing users is an option on the table. I just want to say that I think the vast majority of you are doing a real fine job, and if you haven't got a PM about a strike or a warning, we've had absolutely no problems with you. Obviously, it only takes a few vocal repetitive people to "clog up the bases", so to speak... and it's my goal to address these things so that people who've come to believe Brewerfan is the premier place to talk Brewers still believe that.
  15. +1 for Yost calling McCalvy "Andrew" again. Altho, I think it was just an inside joke this time.
  16. "Right?" is to Jeff Cirillo as "And That" is to Doug Melvin.
  17. Yay for youtube: ">" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344" allowScriptAccess="never" >
  18. Just my personal take, but I find that often when people act like jerks, they refer to it as "being passionate". Contrary to what Yost said, I DO think that Prince has anger-management issues. I'm not saying he's a time-bomb or anything, but I guess if I had to work in close proximity to him, I'd be a bit uneasy, knowing there will always be a next "episode".
  19. So is that a "no" on Odor Eaters?
  20. 1. Branyan 2. Gallardo 3. Braun 4. Weeks 5. Villanueva
  21. He'll be playing against AAA and MLB players in the Olympics. While I wouldn't expect him to mash in that league, I don't think it would be asking too much of him to be able to hold his own at that level, given what he's already accomplished.
  22. Obviously, Hardy's due.
  23. What the media ISN'T telling you is that they're poised to invade East Africa. Proof: http://www.searchviews.com/wp-content/themes/clean-copy-full-3-column-1/images/risk-board-game-strategies-6530.jpg
