  1. Yeah, the stunning thing is that Huntsville is generally a pitcher's park. Definitely something to be excited about down there.
  2. Honestly, I'd rather that they just skip Bush's starts whenever they can. That solves about half the problem, at least. I'd be fine with parting with some second-tier guys if the right deal came along, but dealing Laporta's pretty much mortgaging the future for a 1-year shot, unless you somehow landed a top-flight pitcher with years left on his deal.
  3. Seems like you're totally exaggerating what I said. There's a big difference between not damaging other parts of the body by completing the game and being much less effective on the mound because his lateral motion is nil.
  4. The reality of the situation is that if you've torn your ACL, you aren't going to damage it FURTHER by pitching after the fact, unless it's partially torn (which doesn't appear to be the case). Are we really blaming Ned for this? There's plenty to pin on Ned over the years, but this isn't one of those situations.
  5. Quote Larry the Cable Guy: "Let me ask some of these commie rag head carpet flying wicker basket on the head balancing scumbags something!" If that's not remotely racist, I gotta wonder what is.
  6. If this happened NOW, it would certainly be prosecuted. Back then, probably not.
  7. If "Planet X" is actually a brown dwarf, it's extremely difficult to see. They only emit light in the infrared spectrum, and no ground-based IR telescope would be strong enough to see it.
  8. I absolutely love conspiracy theories ... It's not so much that I buy into them, it's just that sometimes they're good for bending your mind.
  9. The flipping of the poles is scientific fact, as there's plenty of evidence of it. As far as whether we can pin this on "Niribu" or not, that's another issue. I look at this way ... You have to look at the quality of the documentation that supports the idea. The youtube videos and "Planet X" websites all pretty much look like conspiracy theory whackjob sites and videos. Given the absence of notable scientists coming out and warning us about this, it makes me believe it's all bunk.
  10. I believe if no one claimed him, he could refuse the assignment and the club would be on the hook for all his remaining salary (3.2M minus what's been paid out already minus minimum league salary if someone signs him). So, that's the gamble.
  11. It's funny that you brought this up. This caught my attention 2 days ago, and I'm not sure how I stumbled upon it. I'm not sure if this is science or pseudo-science. Back in 1982, there was a lot of talk about "Planet X" because an unknown force seemed like it was tugging on Neptune and Pluto. Since then, it seems to have been explained away by our more advanced understandings of gravity. There are some who also believe that we're in a binary solar system and "Planet X" is actually a "brown dwarf" (a failed star that was never born). There are many conspiracy theorists who believe the government is hiding information about this, or even to a further extent, that the coming of "Planet X" is going to raise us to a new level of consciousness, and that our oppressive reptilian overlords fear this is going to happen. Nibiru is the name that I believe the Sumerians gave it 3600 some-odd years ago, and that a race of gods lived on it. In my personal opinion, I don't believe in its existence. But then again, maybe that's what the reptilians want me to think http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif EDIT: You'll have to excuse some of my geekiness on the issue. Cosmology and Astrophysics are huge interests of mine, as is psychology and the unexplained.
  12. Was anyone else out there an unfortunate rural-living kid like me and tried to position their TV in hopes of getting a feed of "The Box" in the early 90's? I believe it was VHF channel 8 in the Milwaukee area. The transmission power was uber-horrible, or else it must have been transmitted from Chicago.
  13. I'm not a member, but it's something I've contemplated as well. I'd encourage you to do it, because I think it would be a cool thing to share your experiences here about that.
  14. Your implication that if you argued with your point that your "insane" is uncalled for. If you don't like how we moderate, either take it up with the Fan Forum director or don't post.
  15. I'll spot him Brandon Phillips and Josh Hamilton, because those were two moves that definitely worked out very well for them. Arroyo for Pena was also another solid deal. Keppinger for a PTBNL wasn't bad. I'm always hesitant to award points to GMs for drafts, because all of the hard work is done by the scouts ... especially when it comes to latin players like Cueto. To be fair, I wouldn't talk up the farm system under Melvin either, as I think the credit goes to Jack Z and his team. But actually, running down the list, here's my opinion: * 2-12-06: Scott Hatteberg signed to a one-year, $750K deal. - positive * 2-13-06: Adam Dunn signed to two-year, $18.5MM extension. - positive * 3-20-06: Acquired Bronson Arroyo for Wily Mo Pena. - positive * 3-21-06: Acquired David Ross for Bobby Basham. - neutral * 4-7-06: Acquired Brandon Phillips for Jeff Stevens. - positive * 5-26-06: Traded Cody Ross to Marlins for a player to be named later. - neutral * 7-6-06: Acquired Eddie Guardado for Travis Chick. - negative * 7-13-06: Acquired Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, Royce Clayton, Brendan Harris, and Daryl Thompson for Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez, and Ryan Wagner. - very negative * 7-31-06: Acquired Rheal Cormier for Justin Germano. - neutral * 7-31-06: Acquired Kyle Lohse for Zach Ward. - positive * 8-7-06: Acquired Ryan Franklin for a player to be named later. - positive * 8-16-06: Acquired Scott Schoeneweis for a player to be named later. - positive * 9-25-06: Signed Juan Castro to a two-year, $2MM extension. - neutral * 11-20-06: Signed Alex Gonzalez to a three-year, $14MM contract. - neutral * 11-20-06: Signed Mike Stanton to a two-year, $5.5MM contract. - neutral * 11-20-06: Traded Jason LaRue to the Royals for a player to be named later. - neutral * 12-7-06: Acquired Josh Hamilton for cash. - positive * 12-12-06: Signed David Weathers to a two-year, $5MM contract. - neutral * 1-2-07: Traded Brendan Harris to Rays for cash. - negative * 1-10-07: Acquired Jeff Keppinger for Russ Haltiwanger. - positive * 4-27-07: Traded Chris Denorfia to A's for Marcus McBeth and another player. - neutral * 11-28-07: Signed Francisco Cordero to a four-year, $46MM contract. - negative * 12-21-07: Acquired Edinson Volquez and Danny Herrera for Josh Hamilton. - neutral * 1-23-08: Signed Jeremy Affeldt to a one-year, $3MM contract. - neutral * 2-21-08: Signed Josh Fogg to a one-year, $1MM contract. - neutral * 3-3-08: Signed Corey Patterson to a one-year, $3MM contract. - negative After looking at the list, I realized that I was a bit wrong and thought that Krivsky was the one who signed Milton. So, he wasn't AS bad as I thought. I still think the Kearns trade was really, really bad ... as will be the signing of Cordero. But I'm willing to give Krivsky a solid "mediocre to below average" instead of the "god awful" that I previously assigned.
  16. To me, it's not that Jocketty's that good, it's that Krivsky was that bad. Jocketty's a huge upgrade over Krivsky... it makes me very sad.
  17. Looking forward to a 27-pitch no-hitter by Bush.
  18. And here I was holding out saying "14th & National" because I thought it was in poor taste http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Battlestar Galactica House The Simpsons Baseball
  20. Well, Gabe was one of my favorite players, despite his ups and downs. I think it's safe to say that he met expectations as far as what he gave the team when he was acquired. Best of luck, and I hope he has a long major league career.
  21. It was a great show. Of course, "Al" from Quantum Leap is now a cylon on the new Battlestar Galactica... Easily the best show I've seen in the past decade.
