  1. Another wounded duck, that coulda, woulda, shoulda been a contender. Makes the front office look reactive, not proactive. I have no confidence that the Brewers will actually sign a legit power bat, or even a good contact hitter. I would rather have Mark Canha who’s hitting .247, and they were too cheap to resign.
  2. I hope we have patience with Durbin. He’s showing progress similar to Frelick and Turang. He’s a ballplayer. I’m on the fence with Ortiz. He’s regressed, but he hit .239 last year. .220 is acceptable for a shortstop. I don’t think Turang should be moved to shortstop because it hurt his shoulder last time they tried that.
  3. For decades Brewers rookies have looked promising their rookie season. Eventually the league figures out how to pitch them and they regress. Sometimes they rebound, maybe with us, sometimes after being traded away. This team has too many young players, who probably needed more time in the minors. Yelich is probably still having back problems. Contreras probably should get his finger fixed. There’s more to this than mental issues.
  4. “this organization prefers to trade a player for longer-term pieces they believe can help” Yeah, how’s that working for them? We went from a legitimate WS contender to a cellar dweller with that strategy. I understand that we can’t compete long-term with the teams that have 2-3 times our payroll , but in ‘22 a big bat FA could have won Uecker a ring. Now the offense is a hot mess. For decades the Brewers have been pinning their hopes on rookies, who start out well, but fade when opposing pitchers find their weak spot. We can’t have a team with no veterans. Most of Rhys Hoskins contract was a waste and now that he’s good you want to trade him? Freddy Peralta has been a reliable pitcher with no significant injuries. Pay the man, or sell the team. Attendance is going down because Charlie Brown is tired of kicking the football, when Lucy’s holding it.
  5. Last year when I realized Freeman, Betts and Ohtani made more than the entire Brewers payroll, I decided to stop getting emotionally involved in hoping to win a WS. I was ok with just enjoying watching successful, gritty regular season small ball. But having a player on the roster hitting .074 makes it hard to take this team seriously. It’s nice that they gave him a chance, but no contender would have kept him this long. Then going to a game where a can of domestic beer is $16, becomes a sacrifice that isn’t worth it.
  6. I would much rather watch this offense that gets RBIs with ground balls and bunts, instead of pop ups and warning track flyouts like Counsell’s teams. Our strikeout rate has improved from 8.73 to 7.87/game from ’23 to ‘25. And you’re comparing apples to oranges without Adames.
  7. He should never be hitting in a high leverage situation. He grounded out into a double play in the 9th. Swap him for Nolan Arenado and we win. I don’t care that he is out of options, it’s time to DFA him. It’s insane that we have a player hitting under 0.80. I love the Brewers small ball, but this team is another first round exit if they even make the playoffs. Attanasio blew our chance to be a contender when he traded Hader. That’s why the team was demoralized and Counsell left for a deep pockets team, even if that meant betraying the loyal fan base. This loss was pathetic.
  8. You never answered your question. I think the answer is Yes to both. The teams are obviously from different sides of the track.
  9. I don’t expect Attanasio to have a payroll that competes with the big markets. But he has 14 players making $800k. Shouldn’t he be able to afford a number four or five starter that doesn’t get hurt after two games? Like Colin Rea?
  10. Rhys Hoskins was an expensive experiment with disappointing results. Why repeat that? Bring up a minor leaguer or stick with Monasterio.
  11. I would prefer a scrappy doubles hitter, to a whiffing HR hitter. Hopefully he’s the next Jose Altuve. I saw him hit a home run, at Miller Park. Impressive for the shortest player in MLB.
  12. So much sports writing is just regurgitated cliches. This article is an insightful analysis of a complex issue. Thank you. It’s a tough loss for the Brewers but congratulations to McKinven. The White Sox fans deserve some help.
  13. It’s a long hard road to the big leagues. It worked out great with Chourio. It didn’t work with Keston Hiura. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
  14. An aging player coming off an injury and represented by Scott Boras. Like Rhys Hoskins. I’ll pass. Boras stuck us for an $18 million option, for a player hitting 0.214.
  15. It was a great season. But Rhys Hopkins is way overpaid. I hope he isn’t back next year. Sanchez and Bauers were a disappointment. Instead of signing FA hitters coming off injuries or are over the hill, bring up some minor league talent. The Brewer’s coaches have proven they can develop young talent.
  16. It may be a mistake, but it’s hardly crucial. That’s a bit of hyperbole.
  17. Billy Beane: ”If he’s such a good hitter, why doesn’t he hit good? He’s hitting .100 in the bigs. Playoffs are not the time to experiment. That's what Spring Training is for.
  18. Perkins was 3/5 with a HR yesterday. His defense is always outstanding. I don’t think it’s obvious he’s the fifth best. Chourio might have more potential but he has poor plate discipline and is raw in the outfield.
  19. Who would have predicted that the Brewers would be in first place, 13 games above .500, on June 18? And the Cubs are in last place, 8.5 games out? Thank you Craig.
  20. It seems like the crew is reverting to the Craig Counsell offense. I liked when the Brewers were were putting balls in play instead of swinging for the fences.
  21. I love this years Brewers. Putting the ball in play is much more exciting than having popouts, ground outs, strikeouts and an occasional home run.
  22. Impressive analysis. I enjoy baseball but don’t get into the nuts and bolts like you do. Interesting to read though.
  23. I liked Andruw Monasterio at third. I don’t like called third strikes.
  24. Interesting article. Not the same old stuff, most sportswriters write. Thanks.
