  1. Almost seems like they came up with the seedings based soley on conference records.
  2. Looks like the tentitive brackets are out. Waukesha West is 3 seed in their bracket? Don't understand that since they were ranked 9th or 10th in the state.
  3. BSC are the kids "turned off by the Brewers" because they are less "available" to them than the Admiral and Wave players? I'm not sure if it's fair to compare the accessibility of players on minor league hockey and indoor soccer teams vs. a MLB team. I'm sure if you went to college or high school soccer and baseball games the players would be even more accessible at that level. At some point you have to appreciate a sport being played at the highest possible level.
  4. Ok, I'll get some flak for this, but I'm not seeing why there is so much unconditional faith in Rick Peterson. I understand he has a decent and long history. He did well with the A's. However, is his record with the Mets that impressive? It seems like they had a lot of late season bullpen breakdowns while he was there and Heath Bell seemed to flourish after he left the Mets and the tutelage of Peterson. Also, is there any evidence that shows that pitchers he has coached have had a better health record than pitchers not coached by him? I realize he has studied the mechanics of pitching. He seems to be a student of pitching. However, I sometimes wonder if he's too cerebral and "over-thinks" things. I think his style works for some pitchers, but I'm guessing that there are others that are uncomfortable with it. It seems like he wants some pitchers to basically break down and rebuild all their mechanics. I would imagine that abandoning the mechanics that got you to the big leagues in the first place is not easy. I wonder if he's better off as a minor league pitching coach (like he was with the A's). I'm not saying that the Brewers should let him go, I'm just not completely sold on him like others seem to be.
  5. Hmmm...I went the installment route last year. Did not get any of the perks. grumble..grumble...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  6. I don't think it locks in current ticket prices. It locks in discounted season ticket prices. Makes perfect business sense to me and is not any different than how many other membership, ticket offers, etc work. To me, the biggest incentive of being a season ticket holder is the post-season ticket priority that comes with it. Yes, I realize that it's like paying for insurance for something that will probably not happen, but in case it does, I want to make sure I have a good spot in line.
  7. I'm at work and don't have the package with me. I guess I'll have to look at it again when I get home. If you don't pay in full by November 19th, you don't lock in the lowest price?? I don't remember seeing that anywhere. The only thing I saw was that paying in full by Nov 19th got you the extra "perks". The way I saw it (and the way it was handled last year) was that if you committed (not payed) and made at least your initial payment by the deadline you got the full discount. You could still use the installment system and get the lowest price, you just did not get the extras.
  8. Looks like Fondy got beat by Appleton East. So, this could bump Waukesha West into division 1 (I'm assuming West won tonight. Did not see a score for them and was unable to get to the game).
  9. Every year when I get this I very rarely read through it and the perks. For some reason I did this time. Just because they didn't mention the media guide does that necessarily mean that they will not give those out again? Do they always mention those as perks when they send out the invoices? Just to be clear, the incentives are not for "early renewal", they are for "full payment" by November 19th (as opposed to opting for the 5 payment installment plan). I'm not really thrilled wit the incentives for full payment. I really love our seat location and have no desire to "upgrade" 4 of the tickets. I will never understand the appeal of the NYCE Club passes. Isn't it basically a carpeted area with a bar? It's not like they are handing out free food and drinks. Why is this so great? The 2 tickets for the timber rattlers game and entry in the suite drawing is nice...but, none of this is making me want to right out a check today. I may just opt to pay in installments.
  10. Rooting for Waukesha West. It will interesting to see if they end up in Div I or Div II. I understand that Div II is going to have some pretty good depth as far as competition goes.
  11. Don't get me started on that. We've been family section customers about as long as Patrick425. We could practically be considered family section all-stars, yet have never been family of the game, only shown in the background while other fans were hoisting the novelty-sized gift card. If anyone wants to lend us a child for part of a Friday or Saturday night game, I'll split the gift card proceeds with you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I knew this would upset someone. To be truthful...I think we actually won it 4 times...sorry!
  12. Like yoshii, I would play anywhere that would pay me millions to play a game. I hate the no trade clause. Just play the game hard where ever you end up and stop whining.
  13. It's interesting that we now take the continuous on-screen score update for granted. I remember when you had to wait for a commercial break to catch the score (unless you happened to catch the announcer state the score). I find myself watching far less games from beginning to end. I tend to flip around. Some of this is due to the fact that I can catch the score just by flipping on the game momentarily, but most of it is because there are so many other options on TV now (rather than just 2 or 3 other channels).
  14. When I was a kid WOKY was a top 40 radio station and they always had the coolest contests. One weekend they challanged listeners to keep a list of all the Elton John songs that they played. I don't remember what the prize was but my brother and I took shifts listening to the radio all weekend (including over night) and writing down all the Elton John songs. We didn't win. I also remember that they would put these green "raffle tickets" in the news paper from time to time and would randomly call out the winning numbers througout the day. Never won that either. This was also the era when radio stations would give prizes to the Xth caller (i.e. the 10th caller, the 12th caller, etc). I won a couple of albums from WOKY by doing this - "Songs in the Key of Life" by Stevie Wonder and "Band on the Run" by Paul McCartney. My parents had to drive me all the way down to the radio station on Sheridan Ave (we lived on near Greenfield Park in West Allis) just to pick up these wonderful prizes. Also, my family has been named Kohl's Family of the Game at Miller Park 3 times. In fairness, we have been partial family section season ticket holders (at County stadium and Miller Park) since the early 90's. Never won a major award like this though: http://images.yuku.com/image/pjpeg/18a1559c7ef19519e0c9ccb59f9446bedf31d4b.pjpg
  15. I'm not completely familiar with the UW campus, but wasn't there some other "green space" area they could have done this? I'm not sure I have ever seen it done in a stadium before. The whole feel of it was not like other game day broadcasts at other campuses and I think the stadium contributed to the small look of the crowd.
  16. Paul, I agree with you and I can't believe how many people are slamming you for getting a "cheap" phone. Is it really too much to ask that a $50 product last for at least 2 years, let alone 10 months?! If the manufacturer is aware that these phones will not last for more than 10 months, then they should not be sold for more than $10 or $15 and should be labeled as "disposable". No one should be forced to buy a $100+ phone just so it will last at least 2 years. Seems like none of the cell phone companies are "great". I use Sprint. Don't know that they are any better than any other phone company, but I never had a problem with any of their cheaper phones (which is usually what I get ) lasting less than the length of the contract. Last time I re-upped the contract I got the same phones (A Sanyo flip phone) for me, my wife, and my son. I don't remember exactly what I paid for them ($60 each?)Have not had any problems with them (there is about 5 months left on our two year contract). if a company could give you free replacements for shoddy merchandise, then i have a complaint to take up with Hyundai...and Taco Bell. My wife and I brought brand new Hyundai's 6+ years ago. I have 135K miles on mine, my wife has 80K. Have had no problems other than normal wear and tear (and I'm pretty hard on my car). We have been very pleased with them and will very likely buy Hyundai's again at some point. Edit: As far as using consumer reports. I'm a CR online subscriber. Just looked at their cell phone ratings. One of their recommended buys is a $30 phone from AT&T (Samsung Soltice)
  17. Well then, sorry, I would bug you. Never understood why it's offensive to wear a hat inside. It's another one of those "rules" that humans have made up that make absolutely no sense. Does this apply to all indoor venues? What if I'm going to a Buck's game or a Brewer game where the roof is closed? If I'm at a Brewer game and the roof is open and then they have to close it because of the weather, do I need to remove my cap? Is there any rational to any of this? Generally, if I know I'm going some place nice to eat, or some other "formal" type setting and I'm going directly there from my house after taking a shower, I won't wear a hat. However, if let's say, I have been golfing and it's 85 degrees out and I decide to stop in the clubhouse after the round...sorry, the hat is staying on. This is right up there with the "bless you" thing for me. I know this was covered on Seinfeld..but why is this custom still in use today? What possible purpose does saying "bless you" after someone sneezes serve other than acknowledging that someone has sneezed. If you don't say "bless you" you come across as a non-caring jerk. There really is no logic to it. How can I possibly be helping you or making you feel better if I say "bless you" after you sneezed. Is sneezing really that horrible of an act that you need to somehow console the person that sneezes in some manner?
  18. Not to nitpick, but we suspect he's carrying a gun. By the original story, it sounds like he was told "I have a gun", I don't know going back and reading that the gun was ever shown. Not that that changes a whole lot. But it does seem that there should be some recourse here. The guy goes to a known spot. I wouldn't want to call his bluff about the gun and be wrong. Yes the guy goes to a known spot (assuming it is the same guy). Now what? It's already been discussed that the police are not going to spend a lot of time on this. Also, let's say that Adam does confront him and the guy actually gives the Ipod back (if the guy held him up with the threat of a gun, I don't see how this happens). Does is really end there? Maybe he comes back with 2 or 3 of his friends. Without help from law enforcement officials, not sure what recourse there is to be had here. Even if the police do step in and question him, what do you think will happen? Adam would then have to worry about revenge - he certainly could not go to that bus stop any longer and would possibly have to think about avoiding that neighborhood all together.
  19. Not knowing the size of him and adam is pretty irrelevant if he has a gun. Yeah, exactly..what are people not understanding about the whole "threatened by a GUN" thing? A GUN! Given the risk-reward of this situation I would not blame anyone for not confronting the guy(kid). Sometimes you have to know when to keep your pride in check.
  20. I was 14 when the 80's started and 24 when it ended (so about the same age range as Hawing). So, because of my age at the time, I remember the 80's fondly. Things I miss from the 80's: -MTV - when the "M" actually meant something. My 12 year old son has no concept of Music Videos. -Atari Game system -County Stadium. Taking the city bus from West Allis to the VA Center and walking down to the park. Purchasing bleacher tickets for $5 (or somewhere around that price). -"Brat Pack" movies.."Breakfast Club", "St. Elmo's Fire", "Sixteen Candles", "Pretty in Pink", "Better off Dead", "The Sure Thing", etc. -Albums - If you liked a band, you purchased their newest albumn and could not wait for the next one (instead of just downloading select MP3's) -Albums (continued) - Columbia and BMG record clubs. 13 albums for a penny!...and then never follow through on the membership agreement (hey I was 16..what were they going to do?..sue me?) - No Cell phones (unless you were Gordon Gecko) - Power Ties - The Police, Van Halen (the original "original" Van Halen - you know..Eddie with the long rock hair on the library table with the screaming guitar licks in the "Hot for Teacher" video) - Commodore64 - Night clubs such as Park Avenue, Papagaio (spl?), Attic West, Tropicana, Blue Suede Shoes (not On The Border). - Miller Maritime Days on the lakefront - Duffs smorgasbord on 76th and Coldspring (Spring Mall shopping Center) - Aladin's Castle arcades in the malls - being able to eat anything and not gain a pound (that metabolism left me about 15-20 years ago). - my hair I'm sure there is a ton more that I am forgetting.
  21. People at sporting events who don't think you are a "real fan" if you are not screaming and yelling constantly. Went to the Packer game yesterday. Admittedly, I'm not a "die-hard - live and die with every win/loss" Packer fan, but I enjoy watching football and the Packers are my favorite NFL team. I'm lucky enough to be able to go to one game a year. There are always these maniacal fans who chastise people in the section who are not on their feet on every play and yelling wildly. One guy actually put his hands on me and shook me because he didn't feel I was being enough of a "fan". Sorry, I'm just not that type of fan (for any sport). I tend not to outwardly express my joy or disappointment and there is nothing printed on the ticket that says I have to. Can't I just go and watch a sporting event without having to be told how I need to act during the sporting event?
  22. Not to get completely off topic, but it seems that allowing students to listen to ipods during tests could open up various possibilities for cheating.
  23. I understand what you are saying, but for some reason this just struck me as really funny.....I really like that guy. I'd like to see him win a small scratch off lottery ticket prize..like $10 or $15.
  24. Do you have some inside information that Macha is leaving? It' wouldn't surprise me if he does, but you make it sound like it's already been decided and made public.
  25. Leaving work now to go get a root canal.....yaaaayy!
