  1. My Wife and I are going on our first vacation by ourselves in over 13 years. We are going to Las Vegas for a weekend in November. We are both in our 40's, but we still want to enjoy the nightlife there and kind of enjoy a "2nd honeymoon" ....maybe relive a little of our more "youthful" days if that is possible. My wife likes to dance. Not really my thing, but this is somewhat of a gift to my wife for dragging her on several baseball related vacations with my son..so, whatever makes her happy. Most of what I see when researching places in LV is very hip and trendy club type places that probably only let in people with the "right look" and age (even if they did let us in, I'm not sure we would be comfortable or really "fit in"). Not really what we would be looking for. At the same time, not looking for some up scale martini bar with a piano player. Are there any nice, fun, crowded (not so crowded that you can't move) places on or near the strip that have dancing and are a bit more casual? Places where we would not feel like we could be the parents of 90% of the crowd? If they played 80's music that would be a big plus for my wife. Thanks for any suggestions anyone can offer!
  2. If he is hiding an injury or not telling the club that he's not feeling good, I would really have to question his judgement. The Brewers are out of the race and he is under contract through 2015. How could he, or the team, possibly benefit by trying to pitch through or hiding an injury?
  3. Maybe when he's 30 and has 10 years of experience people will finally not be so concerned about "over-using" him. At what point do we drop this "young fragile arm" stuff and treat him like any other MLB pitcher?
  4. Not to get off topic but.. Braun is boycotting the media?...why?
  5. Ok...now I feel old.You should feel young. Al is old and also un-hip and I'm sure he would readily and proudly admit that. His profile states he's 32. If that's true...I have him beat by about a dozen years.
  6. I'm guessing you meant to put that in blue...correct? Ok...now I feel old.
  7. Yes, however, they advertised this thing as a public event. Below is part of an email that I (and anyone else on the Brewers mailing list) received: BREWERS TO HONOR BUD SELIG WITH STATUE TODAY Today, Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Robin Yount will get some company outside Miller Park. The Brewers are set to honor former club owner and current Major League Baseball Commissioner Allan H. "Bud" Selig with a bronze statue on the home plate plaza at Miller Park, near similar monuments to Aaron and Yount. A public ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT today, and it will be a star-studded affair. Dignitaries scheduled to appear include Aaron and Yount, plus fellow Hall of Famers Paul Molitor and Frank Robinson, former Brewers Pete Vuckovich, Ben Oglivie, Ted Simmons, Jim Gantner, Gorman Thomas, Sal Bando, current Brewers Trevor Hoffman and Craig Counsell, Dodgers manager Joe Torre, Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker and a representative of nearly every Major League team. It specifically states that this was a "public ceremony". I contemplated taking a half day off. I would have been pretty upset had I done that and then was told I was not allowed in.
  8. I was talking to another father at my son's football practice tonight and he stated that there was apparently an issue with fans not being able to see the ceremony yesterday. They apparently decided to do the ceremony under a tent and there was only enough room in the tent for "special guests". So, all (or most) of the public that came to watch could not see anything. Anyone else hear anything about this?
  9. How many times is Schroeder going to say "Donnie Ball Game"? It's "Donnie Baseball" Bill!
  10. Steely Dan - Aja Others: Paul Simon - Graceland Nirvana - Nevermind Squeeze - Singles Similar to what JimH5 stated. Music was a much bigger part of my life when I was younger and these albums got worn out on my record player in my teenage years: Van Halen - Van Halen AC/DC - Back in Black Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life Queen - Night at the Opera and Day at the Races
  11. I'm not aware of any cat that would allow you to take them for a walk. We actually put our cat out on a leash on the front porch sometimes (some of our neighbors find this weird). Occasionally we will untie him and "walk" him around the yard. However, if he starts wanting to venture into another yard, a simple tug on the leash or reprimand is not going to work like it would for a dog. Generally cats will just flop on the ground if you try to make them go some place they don't want to go. Some cats will not allow you to put a harness on them to tie tie them outside. Our cat before this one would completely freak out when we would attempt this. Also, you need to use a harness type collar if you are going to put a cat on a leash. Most cats will easily slip out of a simple neck collar. In addition, cats are not smart enough to understand the concept of the leash following them and could possibly hang themselves if you leave them unattended with just a simple neck collar and a leash in an area where they can jump on to things. We are constantly having to untangle our cat as he wraps his leash around bushes and other objects.
  12. So, where do you draw the line? As other people have stated rules are rules, you don't enforce them sometimes and not others. The rule is in place so that golfers don't try to improve their lie. Are you going to try to make judgement calls about what the intention of the golfer was when he took a certain action? I get the feeling that most the people who are upset about this are either very casual golfers or have never played the game at all, certainly not at any competitive level. To me, it seems like even if this was a clear green side "non-trampled" bunker and he committed the same infraction of the rules, there would still be people upset that he got called on it. I don't get why everyone is up in arms about. I was there yesterday in the bleachers on the 18th hole. The odd part about it was that everyone who had the XM radio ear buds that they were handing out (about 80% of the crowd) knew about the possible infraction before Dustin Johnson did. I was also at the Milwaukee All-Star game. I have the same feeling today as I did after that game. Why are people so upset? An exhibition game that ended in a tie...big deal. A golfer committed a rules infraction (a rule that was apparently clearly posted and pointed out to all the golfers before the event began) and got called on it. What's the argument? I'm more upset at the stupid shot Bubba Watson tried to make on the 18th hole in the playoffs. Just call him "Tin Cup"
  13. When the plates first came out...I saw a plate that read something like 2645AB and was wondering, ok, that's the number of ABs for who? Then as I saw more of the non-personalized plates I notice that just about all of them end in AB.
  14. I was there in 2004 and also was there Monday for the practice round. Yes, I'll agree with others that it is not as spectator friendly as other tournament courses. However, I think there are more options than Grandstand, following a group around, or just sitting on one hole. What I like to do at golf tournaments is find a group I like, but I don't follow them from hole to hole. I continuously get 3 or 4 holes ahead of them. Once they go through I go another 3 or 4 holes ahead. This way you see more than just that group, you see more than just one hole, and you beat the crowd if it's a popular group. Also, I tend not to set up at the tee box or at the green. I try to stand along the fairway where their drives might land. Occasionally you get an errant drive and you might have an opportunity to stand within 10 feet of the golfer as he selects his club and talks to his caddy about strategy. Hope you enjoy! We'll be there on Sunday.
  15. 2 random thoughts/comments 1) Just once I would love to see Prince push a bunt down the 3rd base line when the shift is on him. 2) Not really a MLB random thought, but, if anyone else was at the game tonight, did you see the guy dressed as Evil Kinevil (spl?) whip out on his Harley in front of the Brewer dugout tonight? Thank goodness he seemed to be all right (except for maybe his pride). But that was one of the most humorous (once I saw he was ok) and ironic things that I have seen in long time.
  16. Why should we take our "fan cap" off? That's what we are...fans. I know it's cliche, but without fans there are no professional sports. We are the customers. Today's players seem to forget that sometimes. Did Prince mention the fans of Milwaukee once in that article? Congratulations to all the fans in the handful of cities that will be able to afford Prince when he become a FA, you win! There is no competitive balance. The system is broke. But I guess that's a different topic for a different thread. Yount had several chances to leave and make more money (yes, I know for a very brief period of time he was the highest paid player in the game), but he didn't. You could probably say the same thing about George Brett, Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken, Ozzie Smith, etc. Today's players are more narcissistic, but I guess that fits in with today's society as a whole. I always have loved the way Fielder plays the game. You rarely see him not hustle up the first base line. However, I thought his comments were a little cold in this article. It's not always what you say, it's what you don't say. "That’s the only thing I’d miss, is my teammates.” Not the fans Prince? Not the City? There is no doubt he will leave Milwaukee and never look back. The ink on his new contract won't even be dry and all thoughts of this city will be out of his head. Greed and personal fame trumps all else.
  17. Kind of reminds me of the situation that occurred after the 2000 season. The Brewers were hell spent on spending money during that off season regardless of how weak the market was. They showed very little restraint as they wanted to prove to the fans that they would do what it takes to build a winning team heading into the new stadium. So, they grossly overpaid for an oft-injured OF who had just come off a career year in hitter friendly Coors Field. Hopefully history will not repeat itself. Although some will say that it already has in the likes of Suppan.
  18. Went to Myrtle Beach last week. My son was in a baseball tournament there at the Ripken experience park. Anyways, there was a shark attack at the beach right outside our hotel. 10 year old boy...required 40 stitches. This was the 2nd attack this year off of South Carolina beaches. My son was a bit hesitent about going into the Ocean after this happened.
  19. Regarding the original post of swimming in the lake. I have lived in the Milwaukee area for my entire life (44 years) and I'm not sure if I have ever gone swimming in the lake down here (not because I'm afraid of the water conditions. it's just something I have never done). However, my family and I go up to Door County almost every year and one of the things we enjoy doing is going to the beach at Whitefish Dunes State Park and going swimming. There has been a couple of times were we have done this and gotten a thick layer of green algae (I think that's what it is?) that attaches itself to the netting of our swim suites. Not sure if it's harmful at all, but it's pretty disgusting.
  20. I know this is being discussed in another thread, but if they do end up having a lot of "extra" money after contracts drop off and possible trades of Fielder or Hart, I would love to see them try to extend Weeks to a LT contract. I think the $4.5M estimate in an earlier post for his arby number is a bit on the low side. He is currently on pace for 100+ Runs and RBIs and 30+ HRs.
  21. I guess I'm in the minority here. I understand the whole "reverting to the norm" theory. However, Escobar's numbers this year are really, really off. 0 HR's?! .283 SLG? That's like Andrew Jones type drop off numbers. I'm not convinced he will bounce back during the 2nd half.
  22. I find it interesting that the scoreboard has ads for Miller, Pabst, and Budweiser. Three competing companies. Don't see that anymore.
  23. I'm sure you are already aware of this site, but's it's related to the topic: www.engrish.com
  24. Umpires for the Wisconsin State Youth Baseball League make $45/game, or $60 if they work alone.
  25. No I don't understand sarcasm at all. Like I need to read more sarcastic writing about the Brewers. I get enough of that on message boards. So, do you you think all the Brewer writers should write rah rah, go Brewers, Melvin and Macha can do no wrong type of articles? When the team has played like it has this year, I prefer they be a bit more critical, cynical, and even sarcastic at times. Remember waiting for Weeks and Fielder to come up? Remember, how those were going to be the great years for the Brewers especially when you add Gallardo, Braun, Hart, & McGehee along with those two? Now the clock is running out on both of those players and what do the Brewers have to show for it? How many playoffs? How many above .500 years? Can you blame posters on message boards and Brewer writers for not being exactly upbeat?
