  1. Ok, this is a question that is too dumb to ask anywhere else. The other day on ESPN I saw a NCAA division I football playoff game that involved Montana and someone else. It wasn't billed as a conference playoff game. What is that? I thought Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. were Div I. Also, is there a Div II. If so, I never hear of it and what teams are Div II
  2. I'm very concerned about the Yankees and their future. I'm even more troubled about the Players Union and the fact that the Yankees may not be able to overpay their members in future years.
  3. The funniest part for me was when Kevin explained how Meredith's alcoholism "affected" him when she gave him movie tickets because she was to drunk to use them.
  4. I was surprised to wake up this morning, open up the paper, and find this trade on the front burner again. Some thoughts about the article in the JS this morning and some other things I heard. - I heard on the way in to work that R. Ibanez is about to agree on a contract with the Phillies for about $30 mil over 3 years. I know he does not play CF, but I would rather have Ibanez than Cameron. Based on this contract (if it's true), I don't think Cameron is a value and may even be overpriced. I'm sure others will disagree. - The article mentioned that the Brewers would turn around any savings from this trade to shore up starting pitching. They mentioned 4 possibilites - Moyer, Smoltz, Johnson, and Wolf. Of those 4, only Wolf is below the age of 40. Not really thrilled with any of those guys. - Melvin was quoted as saying: "We weren't going to go out and get A.J. Burnett or Derek Lowe because they didn't want to come here". This is the Catch 22 of being a small market team. Players don't want to come here because they don't believe the team can truly be competitive and the team can't attract the players it needs to prove it's competitive. I also think that no matter how competitive the Brewers become, there are some big name players who will never consider playing in a city like Milwaukee.
  5. How is this a salary dump if they turn around and use it for another player? I don't see any evidence that they would not do this.
  6. Ok, I really hate to beat a dead horse. I know it's been mentioned several times. But it's not Cameron for Melky. It's Cameron for Melky + 9.5mil. (assuming no other players or cash is involved).
  7. I didn't want to start a new thread and this seems like the most appropriate place to post this. I heard some comments from Scott Boras this morning on XM. Basically he was complaining about "teams that have not won anything for years". He stated that instead of investing in payroll some of these teams were basically taking the money and paying down debt to increase the owner's equity in the team. These comments sicken me. I find it funny that players and agents like to throw around the phrase "hey, in the end, it's a business" when it's conveinent for them like when they leave a small market team for more money (I'm not necessarily talking about CC). However, when the owners (who by the way own the teams) try to make business decisions that are not in the best interest of the players, the players cry foul.
  8. I think it was originally put in this forum because the Post basically reported it as a done deal.
  9. Oh, ok, I didn't see the stats that Russ posted (had to go back). Regardless, I think Cabrera + 9.5mil to spend > Cameron. Yeah, if the Brewers have to throw in money+Cameron to get Cabrera..then I'm not so sure about this trade.
  10. As was mentioned before, it very well could have been that he was signed in order to "entice" Sabathia. Didn't work. Also, I'm not sure why it wasn't "worth" it anyways. Your getting player at $450k (is he arby eligible? - even so, can't see a huge raise), and still have $9.5 to play with. Re-signing Cameron did not really cost them anything, if they make this trade. It's almost like they didn't re-sign him.
  11. I didn't say "projections". I said "stats"
  12. Russ, I'll agree that Cabrera will probably not give the same production as Cameron will next year. I know you are a huge stat guy. However, stats don't take into account the age of a player or where he is in his career. All they look at is what they have done up to this point in their careers. Arguably Cabrera's best years are ahead of him and Cameron is obviously on the downside of his career. It frustrates me that long term baseball fans can't see this. Because of this I don't think the production drop off will be as dramatic as the "on-paper" stats suggest. Not everything can be boiled down to numbers on a piece of paper.
  13. Apparently the Yankees are interested in Hall as well http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/brewers.html
  14. One thing I find curious about this, if it's true, is the timing. Were the Brewers holding on to Cameron knowing that if they traded him to the Yankees (or elsewhere), any slim hope of signing CC would go out the door. Now that CC is off the table, the trigger is being pulled. The Yankees may have been aware of this also and used it in their negotiations with CC. Or, perhaps the Yankees told CC that if he signed with them that they would make a strong effort to get Cameron. If that's the case, I would hope that the Brewers could wrangle more than Cabrera in exchange for Cameron.
  15. I"m confident that the Brewers are doing this trade for a purpose and would have plans for the extra $9.5 million they would save on Cabrera vs. Cameron. I'm sure someone will try to prove otherwise, but I'm not convinced that Cameron provides $9.5 million worth of value over Cabrera. As mediocre as Cabrera's numbers are, I'm sure he would go for more than $450,000 if he were a FA. It's a value move. The $9.5 million will be better spent elsewhere.
