  1. I'm sure it's all collusion
  2. Yes, however, the thing is marketed as "World Baseball Classic" with different countries playing one another. They might as well just draw players names out of a hat and place them on various teams. Same thing.
  3. Yes, but in general, the Olympics don't find it neccesary to distribute players from countries with better atheletes to lesser talented countries in the name of competitive equality. Actually thats pretty much how the olympics do work. There is a reason why the entire US table tennis team is of Chinese origin. When I look at the profiles of the US table tennis team at least they have hometowns and residences listed as US Cities. That's a bit different than what's happening in the WBC. Vinny Rotino has never lived in Italy (as far as I know) and has possibly never even visited Italy. Edit: Also, as I do more research. It appears that the IOC's requirements is that each athelete representing a country be a citizen of that country. Again, much different than the WBC.
  4. So, because runners underestimated Kendall's arm strength he should not get credit for the runners he threw out? I'm not sure I'm understading the logic. We are talking about Yadier Molina..right? He's in the same division as Kendall if I'm not mistaken. How has Kendall faced any weaker runners than Molina has and how would Molina do any better in a Brewer uniform?

  6. He is...he's Italian the same way that Mike Piazza was Italian back in '06. Yeah, I think that's kind of a joke. I don't think the foreign teams should be assembled using the ancestral bloodline of Americans. I believe A-Rod played for the US in '06 and is playing for the Dominican Republic this time. Not sure what the guidelines are, but couldn't basically just about any American play for some foreign team based on their ancestry (other than maybe Native Americans)? Although, I'm guessing there is not an Irish team.
  7. Did you REALLY just throw "blondes can't drive" into this thread? We're talking about drinking. Edit: took out excessive bold type Yeah, don't forget the Europeans, Asians, Canadians, Hispanic, Russian, African Americans, Native Americans, Australians, Eskimos, and South-Paws.
  8. Does anyone have more information regarding the Friday night event. I know Uecker is the MC and they are going to have a comedian and "skits". We are taking our son and my only worry is about the family frendliness of it. Does anyone think I should be concerned?
  9. I really like this movie as well. However, I made the mistake of renting it a couple of years ago. I had not seen the movie for a while Shortly into the movie, I had to turn it off. The language was way to strong for my son. Then, I looked at the box and saw it was rated R. I would have never have thought that before we started watching it. Katuluu. It's amazing how two people can have a totally different take on the subject matter of a movie. It's almost like your describing a different movie. I thought it was mostly a light hearted PG rated comedy that is perfectly safe for any kids 10 and over (or even 9). On another note. Warning..this is a little bit of a spoiler. However, we went to go see "Marley and me" this weekend expecting (from the trailers) that it would be a feel good family comedy. Ended up doing more crying than laughing. I did think it was a good movie though...just a bit unexpected.
  10. There are lots of inequities in the law. 1) One guy goes out, gets loaded, gets behind the wheel, passes out and plows into another vehicle. He survives the crash, but kills the occupant in the other car. 2) Another guy goes out, gets loaded, gets behind the wheel, passes out and plows into another vehicle. Everyone survives with minor injuries. 3) Another guy goes out, gets loaded, gets behind the wheel, passes out and comes to rest in a field at the side of the road. A few hours later, he comes to (no cops ever notice him), he manages to drive home safely at that point. All three men are basically guilty of the same crime, yet all three men will face much different fates (assuming drivers 2 and 3 manage to stay out of situation 1 the rest of their lives). I realize that there is a lot of "unfairness" like this in the justice system, but it has always struck me as odd. Is the guy that fires a gun at someone with intent to kill and misses any less guilty than the guy with better aim?
  11. I'll agree that Soto and Molina are much more valuable than Kendall, but you might as well compare Kendall to Bench and Munson as well because the Brewers have just as much chance of getting them in their prime as they do Soto and Molina. If someone can name an available catcher that the Brewers can acquire who provides as a better value for his pay than Kendall, I'm all for it. Even if Soto or Molina or Ianneta or some catcher with good offensive stats were available, I'm guessing they would go for as much as $8-$10 million a year or more. I'd rather see the Brewers spend money at other positions and look for value at the catchers position. Which would probably mean living with a good defensive catcher with not great offensive numbers. I remember how excited people were to be getting a 300+ hitting catcher with pop in his bat when the Brewers signed Estrada. That didn't really work out that well. I will agree that Kendal needs much more rest than he got last year.
  12. I guess I'm one of those "old school" (for lack of a better term) fans that really appreciates players like Kendall. To say he "threw out a few runners" is a little flippant. If I'm not mistaken he was one of the best, if not the best, at doing this last year. Maybe this was an aberration and he will return closer to his career norms this year, but I don't see how you can say that about his defense and then talk about how far he strayed from his career numbers in offense with no expectations that he may improve on last years numbers. I know that there are many on this board who hate this kind of talk, but not everything about a player can be boiled down to numbers on a stat sheet. I'm a big believer in intangibles. The more I watched Kendall play last year, the more I appreciate what he brings to the field every day. I might feel a little differently if I thought the catching position was rich and deep in talent in MLB, but I don't.
  13. We are going to the event at the Riverside on Friday night. However, the event on Saturday doesn't seem really appealing to me. While there are a few other activities going on, It seems to be be pretty much centered around autographs.
  14. So I set my bid butler to begin bidding at $0.25 and to continue bidding until $25.00 and to use 100 bids. The Bid Butler will then use the bids up or stop at $25.00, whichever comes first. Also, the bid butler does not match every bid, it only bids if the time drops below 10 seconds, so that saves you some money if you are up against multiple single bidders as they likely spend their bids BEFORe the bid butler does. I'm not sure I understand this. So you set it up to start bidding at $0.25. However it only bids if the time drops below 10 seconds. So, if I understand this correctly, If the auction is set to end at 2:00am, it will not make bids until 1:59:50? And then...only if the bids have reached $0.25? Whats the purpose of setting the price to begin bidding at if it's set only to start bidding 10 seconds before the auction ends? I'm sure I'm just not understanding something here. edit: Nevermind. I guess I get it. The clock resets when someone makes a bid.
  15. So tempting to enter a Jim Mora video clip here.
  16. Apologies to MillerParkSouth. According to sportsbubbler http://community.sportsbu...em-up-friday-1-16-09.aspx Brian anderson went in and edited his previous comment about Sheets:
  17. From mlbTR: MLB.com's Adam McCalvy spoke to Brewers GM Doug Melvin, who indicated the team is no longer interested in free agent slugger Adam Dunn. The possibility was considered when the Brewers were discussing a Mike Cameron trade with the Yankees (Corey Hart would've moved to center field). Cameron and Hart are staying put. Another scenario, which Ken Rosenthal discussed a week ago, is trading Prince Fielder and replacing him with Dunn. McCalvy doesn't dismiss the idea outright, but notes that the Crew would be treading water in terms of lefthanded bats
  18. Looking at Brian Anderson's blog http://babrewer.mlblogs.com/ , I don't see where he states that Sheets said that he is going in another direction. Here is what Brian said in his blog: Yes, it's still a bit of a long shot, but it doesn't sound like Sheets told the Brewers he already made the decision not to return.
  19. I think it was actually the co-pilot that was from WI.
  20. I wonder if his casket will be lined with fine corinthian leather. http://images.yuku.com/image/bmp/f9615c9a70f19e1a14d85a136994717f57a3489.bmp
  21. I'm all for a salary cap, but someone bought a good point on XM this morning. Look at Sabathia, Jeter, Arod, and Tex on the Yankees. Assuming the Yankees sign Jeter to an some over priced contract after 2010. The Yankees pay for these 4 aging, past their prime, players will be $90mil for 2014. 2014 Yankees payroll: CC, age-34, $23million Jeter, 40, $20million? ARod, 39, $25million Tex, 34, 22.4million Not that 34 is really old, but that kind of money on 4 players of those ages who are becoming less and less productive could end up being a bit of a weight, even for the Yankees.
  22. I say gloat away! That's awsome. Also, I'm very much in the camp of signing Hardy to a LT deal and trading Escobar if one or the other can not change positions.
  23. I completely agree with all of this myself. To me a lot of this has to do with the big contracts players get now, including arbitration. When they sit down at the table to discuss contracts and settle arbitration disputes, I don't think a lot of time is spent looking at how good players were at moving players over in late inning tight game situations. Most of the emphasis is on power numbers and run scoring. Also, like someone else mentioned, why don't these guys that have big shifts put on them learn how to bunt more effectively? I know I would. You do that a couple of time successfully and it will make teams think twice about putting a shift on you. As much as fans like to see HRs, I think they would really enjoy seeing their player lay down a bunt down the 3rd base line to mess up the other teams shift. edit: Also, I completely forgot that the Brewers added Randolph as a coach.
  24. The whole deer being run over by snowmobiles is very disturbing (as is the new story about the mallards). However, I'm trying to picture how a snowmobile runs over a deer and how they managed to "round them up".
  25. This is actually a quote from someone in the Powell thread. But it pretty much sums up my feelings about this thread or any other threads about steroids that appear on this board. I don't share this apethetic veiw about steroids at all. I think it's a big black eye on baseball and it bothers me that some people don't see what the big deal is about players artificially enhancing their performances. I guess I'll have to do my best to try to avoid this thread because it just angers me.
