  1. I never meant to compare him to guys like Pudge or Johnny Bench. Catchers like that are like gold and good luck getting one for less than $10 - $12 mil per year. There may be better offensive catchers out there...but how much better? How much worse is he than average? Again, I'll reiterate, it's all about defense and throwing runners out to me when it comes to catching. I will take a guy that throws out over 40% of the base runners but has an OBP of .325 over a guy that throws out less than 20% of the base runners and has an OBP of .355 any day...even if that guy can hit 10-15 HRs. I've been a Brewer fan for too long and have watched to many teams put on track meets against Brewer catchers to ever want to go back to that again. Among regular catchers Kendall was 1st in MLB (by a pretty good margin) in throwing out runners (.427) and tied for 4th in CERA (3.83). Taking a quick overview of combined offensive/defensive stats among Catchers, there is only a small list that I would possibly prefer over Kendall: Dioner Navarro Kurt Suzuki Joe Mauer Bengie Molina Yadiar Molina C. Snyder
  2. I really do not understand all the disdain for Kendall. He's a number 8 hitter. Did people really expect him to hit 10+ HR's? At least he seems to know how to work a count and make a pitcher throw some pitches. To me the catcher's position is all about defense. Any offense that a catcher can add to the line up is frosting on the cake. I have no problem with Kendall's work behind the plate and how he has handled the pitching staff. I think people are really forgetting how other teams use to abuse prior Brewer catchers on the base paths and how frustrating that was. Take a look around at all the MLB catchers. There are not a ton of really good offensive catcher's out there.
  3. The Brewers still have a better chance of advancing in the playoffs than 22 other teams.
  4. Wow, nice job! Here is his Wikipedia bio. Pretty interesting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Maier
  5. I'm a little older than the average poster on this board and I have been finding myself comparing this team to the 82 Brewers. I realize that younger Brewer fans want just forget 82 and move on. However, one of the things I remember about that team and I'm sure you could say this about most successful teams is that each person in the lineup had a role. Molitor and Yount understood their role and performed it well. They started things off. They got on base. Cooper, Thomas, and Oglivie understood their roles and also performed them well. Everyone keeps talking about positions, in particular 3rd base. What's the solution? Go out and get another power hitting 3rd baseman? That's not what's needed here. I prefer to think about everyone's role in the lineup and understanding that role. It's clear to me that no one that the Brewer's have tried in the #1 position (or number 2 for that matter) has truly grasped an understanding of that position in the lineup and what their job is at that spot. This leaves guys like Fielder and Braun feeling like they each have to hit 5 HRs every game in order for the Brewer's to compete. The offensive vacancy is not a field position, it's a lineup position. There is also some sort of coaching issue going on imho as well. It's clear that the Brewer players are not being coached very well when it comes to situational hitting. Things like staying back and looking for that outside pitch to drive the other way with guys in scoring position is a skill and thought process that seems to allude most of the Brewer's hitters.
  6. Ok...I guess it's time for a clue. This person's "fame" came at a younger age.
  7. I'm really sorry if this was arleady brought up...but is anyone else getting a crappy HD picture on TBS? The commercials seem fine..but at times the live action is grainy.
  8. If the gates to the lot open at 2:30, does anyone know when the gates to the park opens?

  10. They don't get to the NLCS unless they win the NLDS. They have a better chance, imho, with Gallardo pitching than Suppan to make the NLCS. In the pregame Sveum said his pitch limit would be around 90. He threw 75 pitches. Does 24 hours really make that big of a difference? (Ok, I'm asking for a slew of responses from people telling me how much of a difference it makes). The wusification of today's MLB ball player kills me.
  11. Can I ask why? He had a leg injury, not an arm injury. This is the playoffs. The whole 3 day vs 4 day rest is way overblown if you ask me. (fixed code --1992)
  12. I was so happy to see Naivin's and Jeffryscott's post and see that they were not banned from the site because of it. This would pretty much be my order 1. Brewers 2. Cubs 3. Phillies 4. Dodgers 5. Angels 6. Red Sox 7. Tampa Bay - low because of the lack of fan support 8. White Sox - although I really like watching the young 2nd baseman play. The Cubs have always been my second favorite team. My dad was born in 1933. He's been a Cubs fan since he can remember. He's not getting any younger and time is running out for him to see the Cubs finally reach the promise land. I remember so many summer days sitting with my Dad on the back porch listening to the Cubs on the radio and then, once we got cable (when I was in High School), they were always on out TV. The Brewers were in the AL and I had no reason to hate the Cubs. All my friends also liked the Cubs and I remember sitting in a bar when I was in college and rooting for them in the '84 playoffs. The Brewers have been in the NL for hardly 10 years. Obnoxious fans or not, it's hard for me to turn against a team that I enjoyed so much as kid.
  13. I am so sick and tired of hearing about Sabathia and the 3 days rest thing. Way overblown. A. Is there really a choice for the brewers? B. Has he really shown any signs that he can not pitch on 3 days rest? The guys a horse and he wants the ball. Give it a rest people. He's a big boy..he can handle it.
  14. Nevermind. Duh. I see it now. What does MBA mean??
  15. Didn't there use to be a forum on here for people to sell/trade things? Why can I not seem to find it now?
  16. Ok, I'm pretty sure I heard one of the songs that's been going through my head that they play sometimes at Miller Park during the White Sox/Twins game tonight. Not that anyone is going to remember this, but it was played during the Twins pitching change in the 8th inning when they came back from the commercial. Na, Na, Na, Na, Na...........na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na.......na, na, na There, no doubt that someone will get it from that! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Yeah Torres speech was great. I am going to vent just a bit though. I realize that the players had to get off to Philly, but couldn't they have pushed everything back an hour or so. With work and school and everything, my family and I was just able to get there just after the players took the stage. There was no way for us to see anything (especially my 4' 8" 10 year old son - this is one of the reason's I'm not a huge fan of seeing shows at side stages at Summerfest). It was a very fun atmosphere though.
  18. I'll be taking tomorrow afternoon off, along with a couple of other people in my office to watch it at home. Thursday, I'll sneak out a little early. My biggest dilemma is my son. This is his first year of tackle football and I let him skip practice yesterday to go to the Brewer rally and I'm torn about Thursday. Both his practice and the game start at 5. Who knows when this will happen again.
  19. That is a great clip. The story behind it is here: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=15491
  20. Why is everyone always ripping on this song and group? (Yes, I realize it's Antanasio's son) I kind of like it. In fact I was looking for a place where I could download it a couple of weeks ago.
  21. I understand that, but I'm talking about music that they play at times during the 1/2 hour before the game starts. Now, I may be thinking of some music that they played in previous years. No way to really explain it. There are no lyrics (at least not in the parts that are played), just synthesizer type music. One has a really heavy staccato type beat to it. Suppan is my favorite pitcher's music - Baba O'Reilly - The Who
  22. I was at all the home post season games in '82. However, I'll also be at the Brewerfest tonight (as I would assume most people who are abnormally into the team are)..so, not sure when I would have time to do this since I'm at work right now. I called Alina...got her voice mail.
  23. Thankful and realistic. Playing a team that only has to play 8 innings is going to be tough (as we found out about 2 weeks ago). I'd rather be playing the Cubs.
  24. Pirates - Nice pick. There are so many. CC and Braun are obvious choices. I'm going to say...drum roll.....Bud Selig. Yes, that's right, Bud Selig. Without Bud, no Miller Park. Without Miller Park, no Attanosio (or at least no Attanasio that keeps the Brewers in Milwaukee) or 3million fans, without Attanasio, No CC and no Braun LT contract, and no playoffs...and probably no Brewers.
  25. Wow, $35...really! That's seems steep for any kind of hat. Although I prefer the adjustable kind over the fitted kind. I went to MP last night and picked up a blue Brewer "playoff" shirt for both me and my son (I was really suprised they had kid's sizes). I prefer the shirts that say 2008 playoffs over the Wild Card shirt. I don't want to feel like I need to purchase a new shirt every time the Brewers advance to the another round. In '82 I remember buying a "Brewer's - 1982 World Champions" shirt at Gimbels during the WS (I think it was between games 5 and 6). I held on to it until about 10 years ago when my wife convinced me that there was really no need to keep clothing that no longer fits me. I really wish I would have kept it.
