  1. If the Brewers get in to the playoffs, I just hope they play the team struggling the most at the time. If it's the Cubs, great. If it's any other team, great. If the Cubs are playing hot I'd rather not play them in the first round. It would be good for the rivalry, but the best thing for Milwaukee baseball after getting into the playoffs would be winning a playoff series.
  2. Lawrie won't take very long to sign. The Brewers have always been good about getting their top picks in quickly, and Brett shouldn't be any different.
  3. Didn't you hear? We're become an upper midwest travel site.
  4. Slowey and Bush... yawn. Perkins and Suppan... yawn. Baker and McClung... yawn. No offense to either team's staff but that's about as boring a set of pitching matchups as you'll get at the major league level.
  5. It would be great to have a Brewers vs. anyone playoff series.
  6. Branyan is, by definition, a very large sample.
  7. Fukudome would be a stellar leadoff guy, but he's not been much more than a slightly above average RF this year so far. I'd take him over Hart for OBP reasons I guess. Braun is right there with the top NL outfielders in terms of production... if the Brewers continue to stay hot before the All Star break and he continues to hit, he'll get in for sure. He still has ROY cred.
  8. The love child of Marc Echo and Sufjan Stevens. He looks familiar, but I can't place him yet.
  9. The official story is indeed that he was moved to third right at the end of spring training last season because WV needed a third baseman and the Brewers thought Green was enough of a gamer to handle it. If that's the whole story, it's a great story. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Brewers may have intended to get Green some reps there anyway, it just turned out he hit well enough to stay there for the time being. Since Green and Gamel might never be on the same team in the minor leagues, it is to Green's benefit to keep him at third base at least through AA. He'll get to work with Don Money in Huntsville, which should be a good thing for his defense at third. He'll probably get time at both positions in AAA just to make sure he can still play second well also.
  10. This is exactly how I will be feeling when your team blows this lead.
  11. This all will just make it sweeter when they collapse.
  12. If and when they decide Gamel is the guy at third base, they might move him back. However they might want to keep playing him at third in order to get him better defensively and increase his value as a utility guy (and therefore increase his options in his path to the bigs).
  13. Taylor Green was drafted as a second baseman and moved to third base last year. He's a much better second baseman than a third baseman.
  14. Brevard for the moment. They are a few players short and still have some first half games to play, as does Huntsville. Any mid-season promotions won't happen for a bit.
  15. If he's being pitched around (as was alluded to), I'd say he's much more likely to walk four times than strike out thrice.
  16. Fielder has 32 walks and 46 Ks in 234 AB this year. He takes walks and doesn't strike out a ton.
  17. Judging strictly by a straight line average per game, no, but baseball attendance does not operate as a straight line, it increases during the summer.
  18. Not giving Iribarren a spot start in a day game? Get the guy some work... we already know Hall is going to struggle to be successful against a righty.
  19. Berkman's 3TO against Sheets is closing in on 50%.
  20. I'm not comfortable with Counsell and Hall as the only SS options. I don't see any of the AAA shortstop options outhitting Escobar. Escobar is on the 40 man. Therefore, if Hardy is DL'd, it makes sense to bring up Escobar.
  21. IMO, Weeks' defense has improved a good bit this year (as it has year to year). He's basically to the point where if a ball is hit at him, I don't cringe in fear. His RZR is slightly below league average, but he's made more out of zone plays than any second baseman beside Chase Utley. While he's not terribly great at second, he's no longer terrible either, and he was never at Braun's third base level of play there. I also still think he'll hit... he's hit into terrible luck this year. If his batting average was even 30 points higher, which by all accounts it should be, he'd be one of the 10 best offensive second baseman in baseball by OPS.
  22. I've had some questions about the way the Brewers operate their minor league side of the operation over the years, but the people that think they are "idiots" are few and far between. Care to expound on why you think they are idiots? Surely it can't just be because they've kept Lucroy (a catcher in his first full pro year and still progressing on defense) and Cody (who is doing something of a rehab assignment after elbow problems held him back in extended spring training) in West Virginia until early-mid June.
  23. I'm fine with giving them regular batting practice in Rookie/A ball, but I'm also happy with not letting them into games until AA. The injury risk isn't worth it for maybe 95% of pitchers, who will likely be marginal hitters anyway.
  24. Steve Bray has given up 4 ER in 23.1 innings since the end of April. I still want to see him given a shot at some point. I know he doesn't have great stuff, but he just keeps getting it done. Edit: Jeremy Jeffress is dealing again... 3 IP and nothing except 7 swinging K's. He's not perfect because of a runner reaching on a passed ball by catcher Martin Maldonado on one of the K's.
