  1. 20th round pick RHP Joey Matulovich has been assigned to Helena. C Robie Rojas activated from the "7-day DL" at Colorado Springs.
  2. Final: Billings 6, Helena 4 Brewers Blow Lead In Ninth Against Billings Helena Loses For First Time When Leading After Eight Innings By Greg Mroz / Helena Brewers HELENA, MT - The Brewers have been dynamite in the late innings at home, entering Saturday night's game against Billings 5-0 when leading after eight innings. However, a different tune rang, as the Mustangs rallied for three in the ninth, highlighted by a bases loaded triple from Dylan Harris, to give Billings a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Helena sits at 12-11 and one game back of division leader Great Falls. After a scoreless first, Billings strung together a small ball rally to strike for the first run. With one out, Drew Mount bunted with the infield back for a single, and got to second on a groundout from Jake Turnbull. Juan Martinez then delivered a double, plating Mount to give Billings the 1-0 lead. The Brewers came back in the third inning and took advantage of control problems from Mustangs starter Mac Sceroler. Pablo Abreu and Jean Carmona both drew walks, setting up Chad McClanahan, who with two out and a 2-1 count, pounded an inside fastball into the right center field gap for a double, scoring both runners and giving Helena a 2-1 lead. Billings immediately tied the game in the top of the fourth, as Reshard Munroe reached on a dropped third strike and got to second on a passed ball. He eventually scored on a Drew Mount ground out, tying the game. A one out double from Jesus Lujano scored on a throwing error from Juan Martinez in the fourth, but Billings tied the game at three in the fifth on a Vladimir Martinez solo home run. McClanahan then broke the tie in the bottom of the fifth with a solo homer, his fourth, to give Helena a 4-3 lead. Aaron Ashby went the first five for Helena, and gave up three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out three. Scott Sunitsch entered and pitched three scoreless innings, and came back for the ninth with a one run lead. He got a ground out from Jake Turnbull, but was then pulled for Chad Whitmer. Whitmer walked the first two to load the bases, and Bren Spillane then hit a ground ball to second that Yeison Coca booted, loading the bases. The Brewers then went to the bullpen again for Peter Strzelecki, who got Zeek White to pop out for the second out. Dylan Harris then hit a sinking liner to left that Je'Von Ward dove for in order to make a game winning catch. Ward couldn't make the play and the ball rolled to the wall, scoring all three runners to give Billings their first lead at 6-4. Helena went down in order in the ninth, losing to the Mustangs for the third time in four games. *** Photos/additional game story from 406 MT Sports. *** Helena Box Score Helena Game Log
  3. Final: DSL Rays2 10, DSL Brewers/Indians 3 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score The league's worst pitching staff once again lived up to its billing as a close game was broken open late by the Rays' offense. Moises Ruiz allowed an earned run in his 4 innings of work to start the game. Claudio Mota took the loss by giving up 2 runs in the 7th inning. Outfielder Luis Valdez, just transferred over from the main DSL squad, got the final out of the game on the mound. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  4. Final: DSL Brewers 5, DSL Cubs2 1 DSL Brewers Box Score Larry Ernesto was on base three times and stole two bases as well, and a late rally propelled the Brewers to a win and sole possession of first place in the DSL's San Pedro division. The Brewers also got exceptional pitching performances from the trio of Jose Romero, Abner Uribe, and Jose Alberro. It was Uribe's pro debut. The lefty Alberro has made huge strides this year and should be stateside next spring at the latest. DSL Brewers Game Log Winning rally: DSL Brewers Top of the 8th Pitching Change: Kleiber Carreno replaces Edward Vasquez. Jeicor Cristian doubles (2) on a fly ball to center fielder Brailin Pena. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Oswel Leones replaces Jeicor Cristian. Victor Vargas hits a sacrifice bunt. Missed catch error by second baseman Orlando Zapata, assist to pitcher Kleiber Carreno. Oswel Leones scores. Victor Vargas to 2nd. Victor Maria walks. With Larry Ernesto batting, passed ball by Miller Chacon, Victor Vargas to 3rd. With Larry Ernesto batting, Victor Vargas steals (5) home. Victor Maria steals (12) 2nd base. Victor Maria advances to 3rd. Throwing error by second baseman Orlando Zapata. Larry Ernesto walks. With Carlos Rodriguez batting, Larry Ernesto steals (4) 2nd base. With Carlos Rodriguez batting, passed ball by Miller Chacon, Victor Maria scores. Carlos Rodriguez flies out to right fielder Rafael Herrera. 5. A Brewers fan site and Royals fan site came together on this dealfor Merrifield: Brewers get: Merrifield Royals get: Erceg/Santana/Derby I could live with that I think.
  6. RHP Juan Gomez placed on the DSL Brewers’ 60-day DL. He had not taken the mound yet this year. OF Luis Valdez transferred from the DSL Brewers to the DSL co-op team. Taking their spots on the DSL Brewers are recent RHP signings Luis L. Ortiz and Abner Uribe.
  7. Final: AZL Brewers 7, AZL Padres1 3 AZL Brewers Box Score The Baby Brewers scored runs in 5 of their 8 offensive innings despite only logging 7 hits on the day. C Alex Hall (2-4, 2B) and DH Kekai Rios (2-4, 2 2B) each had a pair of hits and 2B Orveo Saint went 1-2 with a triple and a walk. Micah Bello and Jess Williams have both been out for multiple games in a row, which is conspicuous given that the Brewers are out of AZL roster room for the latest crop of draft signings. 2017 2nd round pick Caden Lemons made his 2018 debut, throwing 2 innings. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits and a walk, while striking out 2. Jesus Brea pitched a scoreless ninth and still has a 0.00 ERA after 6.1 innings of work. AZL Brewers Game Log
  8. Final: DSL Rangers1 9, DSL Brewers/Indians 4 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score The co-op team was cruising, leading 2-0 going into the bottom of the 5th. However, Indians pitchers entered the game and the game went swiftly in the other direction. The starting pitcher was the Brewers' Alexis Ramirez, who pitched 4 scoreless. RF Bryan Connell had a big game, going 2-2 with a triple and 2 walks. Connell's OPS is up to 1.024, good for 8th best in the DSL. CF Bryan Dimas was 1-2 with a walk. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  9. RHP Carlos Herrera activated from Wisconsin’s Suspended List. RHP Bowden Francis placed on Wisconsin’s Temporary Inactive List. OF Nic Pierre activated off of Wisconsin’s 7-day DL.
  10. Yep. 19 unsigned picks (where we're at currently) would easily be the most since the draft went to 40 rounds.
  11. Final: DSL Brewers 3, DSL Rangers2 0 DSL Brewers Box Score The Brewers post their second shutout in a row against the Rangers2 squad and move back into a tie for first place with said Rangers2. Both teams are 18-11 with 7 games remaining in the first half. Today's stellar pitching came from Henry Medina (6.2 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K), Dantel Ramirez (1.1 IP, 2 K), and debuting Wilber Diaz (1 IP, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 2 K). Diaz was truly thrown right into the fire, coming into the game in the top of the 9th and tasked with holding a 3-0 lead with 1st place hanging in the balance. He worked past that walk and hit batter to strike out the last two hitters and earn a save in his first pro game. Well done. Ramirez meanwhile bumped his W-L to 4-0, pitched on back-to-back days which is odd for a DSL pitcher and he is just crushing DSL hitters. In 18.1 innings of work, he's allowed just 10 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 25 with a strong GB%. It's the 19-year-old righty's first pro season but with numbers like that, you have to think a move stateside yet this year is a strong possibility. C Andres Melendez had 2 of the Brewers' 3 hits and his single would be the cataylst for that winning rally. He also thew out his 12th baserunner in 26 attempts, a very solid 46%. All 3 runs were scored in the 7th inning, which I'll let you read through below. DSL Brewers Game Log All the runs: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 7th Andres Melendez singles on a fly ball to right fielder Isaias Leon. Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Victor Vargas replaces Andres Melendez. With Jesus Chirinos batting, Victor Vargas steals (4) 2nd base, . Victor Vargas advances to 3rd, on a throwing error by catcher Randy Florentino. Jesus Chirinos singles on a ground ball to center fielder Robert Gonzalez. Victor Vargas scores. With Luis Silva batting, wild pitch by Daniel De Leon, Jesus Chirinos to 2nd. Luis Silva walks. Francisco Gonzalez flies out to right fielder Isaias Leon. Oswel Leones grounds into a force out, shortstop Keyber Rodriguez to second baseman Jember Gutierrez. Jesus Chirinos to 3rd. Luis Silva out at 2nd. Oswel Leones to 1st. With Daniel Castillo batting, Oswel Leones steals (7) 2nd base. Daniel Castillo reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Rehybell Perozo. Jesus Chirinos scores. Oswel Leones scores. Daniel Castillo to 2nd. With Victor Maria batting, Daniel Castillo steals (5) 3rd base. Victor Maria strikes out swinging. Wilber Diaz's hectic debut: DSL Rangers2 Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Wilber Diaz replaces Dantel Ramirez. Angel Aponte grounds out, third baseman Victor Maria to first baseman Luis Silva. Keyber Rodriguez hit by pitch. With Jember Gutierrez batting, wild pitch by Wilber Diaz, Keyber Rodriguez to 2nd. With Jember Gutierrez batting, wild pitch by Wilber Diaz, Keyber Rodriguez to 3rd. Jember Gutierrez walks. Randy Florentino strikes out swinging. Heriberto Hernandez strikes out swinging.

  13. It seems as though 22nd rounder Joey Baran will not be signed. I don't have anything official though.
  14. Final: AZL Giants Orange 14, AZL Brewers 8 AZL Brewers Box Score After absorbing a tight low-scoring loss yesterday, the Baby Brewers got obliterated by the Giants Orange squad by a score of 14-8. They've fallen to 6-9 on the season, not very nice. They did score 8 runs though, mostly thanks to production from the bottom of the lineup, cue Bill Schroeder voice. In particular, 9th round pick LF Arbert Cipion got his first pro hit, a triple, then followed that up with a double, and then another triple. He was 0-9 with 7 Ks coming into the game, so I have to imagine that felt good to not only get off the schneid, it felt great to bang the ball around the park and run around the bases. Cipion was the 6th place hitter in the lineup, and #s 7-9 did well, too: SS Orveo Saint (2-3, 2B, 2 BB), 3B Aaron Familia (2-5), and RF/CF Pablo Garabitos (2-5). Joe Gray went 0-4 to drop his BA to .111, though he did get his first pro stolen base. The pitchers obviously had a tough day and 3 errors didn't help. Shoutout to Johan Dominguez and Mitch McIntyre for scoreless innings, though. Both are still sporting 0.00 ERAs on the year. AZL Brewers Game Log
  15. My guess is that they sign Matulovich, perhaps Baran depending on what the holdup is, and then maybe one of Sparks/Pacheco/Dillard/Hylton.
  16. The Brewers have a little over $70,000 left by my math. If that's accurate, I would fully expect them to use most of it today. Since the first $125,000 is exempt from the bonus pool after round 10, they can offer one of the remaining guys over $195,000.
  17. https://twitter.com/brewcrewblue/status/1015026871900270597?s=21 Iverson not signing after all.
  18. Just to be clear, I said “agreed to terms” and not “signed.” Important difference. They might still be working on a physical, or just taking as much time as necessary for a life-altering decision.
  19. Final: DSL Brewers/Indians 3, DSL Rangers1 2 DSL Brewers/Indians Box Score Daniel Acosta and Ricardo Velasquez each pitched 2 scoreless relief innings to secure the victory for the co-op team. CF Bryan Dimas tripled in a run and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the 7th. DSL Brewers/Indians Game Log
  20. Final Game Two: DSL Brewers 2, DSL Rangers2 0 DSL Brewers Game Two Box Score The Brewers, behind starter Wilber Perez, emphatically stop their run of poor pitching. Coming off a 12 strikeout performance in his last start, Perez backed it up today with 6.1 innings of 3 hit, 5 strikeout ball. His ERA is down to 0.84 on the year, and in 32.1 innings pitched, he has allowed just 18 hits and 7 walks against 38 strikeouts. This has been kind of out of nowhere for Perez as to the best of our knowledge, he wasn't a big signing bonus guy and just pitched a few games last year. Dantel Ramirez got a double play to get the last 2 outs of the 7-inning contest. 1B Francisco Gonzalez drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI triple. Carlos Rodriguez only had one hit. DSL Brewers Game Two Log Said run: DSL Brewers Bottom of the 5th Farlyn Manon flies out to right fielder Isaias Leon. Luis Silva walks. Francisco Gonzalez triples (1) on a fly ball to center fielder Angel Aponte. Luis Silva scores. Victor Vargas called out on strikes. Alwinson Valdez strikes out swinging.
  21. If Villalobos was affiliated with an LMB team, and Ben Badler made it seem like he was, he can't sign until MLB lifts its moratorium on signing players from the LMB. No one seems to know how long that will be.
