  1. Keith Osik. I'll say Cappy and Hall. Sure, the defense let him down, but sometimes you have to pitch around it. As for Hall, well, he just went away. Oh, and thanks to the Curse of Cappy, ain't no way I am buying an Audi.
  2. Karl Ravich Steve Levy Karl, dial down the smarm. Steve, you don't have to speak in all capitals. I hear you just fine. ESPN got the same memo cable news a few years ago: "Don't just report the story, BE the story." The FSN show avoids that somewhat by only being a half hour (less time to fill), but still showboats around. Gimme 10 minutes with the box scores in the paper along with my tea. That is all.
  3. I played in the Mexican Leagues one winter. The scenery is nice and lodging is inexpensive. I was down there for 2 weeks, but watch what you do; you pick up a nagging injury down there it follows you around for a while.
  4. I was in my first year of law school at Dayton. I had Contracts at 9, 10 minutes after the first plane hit, so I didn't know anything going in. For the first time in weeks, I didn't surf during class and paid attention. I got out and went ot my usual library post to do some reading. Checking my mail, there was an email from one friend to another who worked in the airline ops jobs I had just left asking about a plane hitting in NY. Ulp, Dad was in Manhattan on buisness! After 30 minutes or so at a payphone (remember those?) I got through to my Dad's assistant in Chicago who said she had heard from him since the strikes. Calling NYC was out, so thank heavens for good old fashioned 800 numbers and land lines. They opened up the lawschool courtroom for folks to watch news and have a direct internet connection. For about an hour I followed the short emails from my friend at the airline to all of us as first they tracked down every plane in the sky and put it on the ground. A co-pilot buddy of mine emailed something that soon all would know, there was no way live airline pilots were at the controls. About 11 they closed down the school so I went and watched news in my sister's dorm room. Hung out till about 4 taking it all in, when my girlfriend (now wife) got off work to pick me up. For those of you not in the know, Dayton has one of the larger airbases in the country, Wright Patterson. They keep a "Doomsday" 747 there; the plane that is basically the fallback command and control in case they get the Prez and VP. It was doing slow circles around town. Knowing that all other flights were grounded and seeing that big green beast in the air scared the hell out of me. About 630, I decided it was a good night to be a little drunk, so I walked the 3 blocks over to the liquor store. On the way home there was a very loud window rattling BOOM, like a very large explosion. I ran back home and all of my neighbors were standing in the street confused. Yes, because hearing loud, unexplained booming sounds on 9-11-01 is a good reason to LEAVE YOUR HOUSE! About 2 minutes later, one of the Air Force press guys from the base got on local TV to tell everybody to relax. A flight of F-16s had just gone supersonic over the city after gassing up to go catch the Prez on his way back to DC. One really bad day.
  5. First "job" was working in the old neighborhood as a dog walker/babysitter/lawn mower/snow shoveler/house watcher while you were on vacay guy. My first job that paid a wage was cart shagger/carryout slave/fresh OJ maker for Sendik's in Whitefish Bay. Probably the dirtiest as well (you don't want to know where your produce comes from). Since then I have engaged in: Book store clerk, sorftware store clerk, telemarketer, house painter, janitor, apartment complex manager, waiter, bouncer (no tips but occasionally you got to hit people), delivery truck driver for a party supply company, shipping clerk aircraft flight crew scheduler, law clerk for an ethically challenged law firm, unpaid legal intern for a university and, finally, lawyer for various things.
  6. Ah, Michigan, where you have to be in the top 1% of your class, unless you can handle the rock. Then again, this smells like OSU tampering. Oh, Go Boilers.
  7. Dropkick Murphy The Warriors Code. It is Irish Fest weekend after all...
  8. I've always just replied with whatever email they give. Never had my computer force me to Outlook. Bought and sold stuff on Craigslist. Bought a couch and a baby hiking backpack. Sold some random piece of my wife's wedding regalia. When buying, make sure folks want to let you see it first, and don't seem wierd (like they want to meet only after 11pm or something and don't work 2nd shift). I've tried to stick to the stuff that has pictures. Its not really like eBay in that there is no bidding process, teh seller takes the best offer. You can get jacked when you make an offer, go to check it out, and they say they have another bidder who is offering 20 more or something. Walk away. So, I've been okay with it.
  9. I want to feast on the bones of David Eckstein.
  10. I'm going to vent, then moving to apathy as well. WAKE UP! Somebody wake up. Everything is NOT okay. Yes, sunshines, "we are still in first place" as everybody official Brewer organ will say. Well, guess what, the Cards about to only be 2.5 back and the team has been playing like 2004 since the start of July. There are 6 weeks left; wake up now! If you wait until September it may be too late. There are no more sacred cows. EDIT: To quote Get Fuzzy, I am at a level of crazy bewteen C-Span caller and naked flag waving Tour de France spectator crazy.
  11. I hope he paid his filing fee. There is a Federal case from Michigan where a guy tried to sue Satan. The case was tossed because the court said it couldn't get jurisdiction over Satan. Odd, because Michigan is Hell.
  12. Based on my reasoned analysis of Spurling dislike around here now that he is gone we are on pace to end the season with a 40 game winning streak. That said, I don't mind the move. Carrying 13 pitchers is silly. We need the bat.
  13. There is a case on the books in Wisconsin where an insurance company tried to deny an injured biker coverage becasue he wasn't wearing his helmet. The insurance company lost meaning that, until the legislature changes the law, the case is controlling. Don't hold your breath waiting for the legislature. People who know what they are doing on their bikes, fine. Summer seems to bring out every yahoo who thinks the laws of the state and of physics do not apply to them.
  14. My EYES! The goggles do nothing! Homer: $20?! I wanted a peanut! Homer's Brain: $20 can buy many peanuts. Homer: Explain how! Homer's Brain: Money can be exchanged for goods and services. Homer: WOO-HOO! Best non verbal sequence: Homer practicing for Whacking Day in his backyard.
  15. Can I say something so unforgiveable the vent thread gets locked? I am full of angry words. Toast. We. Are. Toast. Its like 2004 all over, just with a bigger crash.
  16. I'm about as Jewish as non-member of the tribe can get. Growing up my very Irish Catholic family belonged to the Jewish community center (it was open on Christmas and the daycare was awesome). I'll be standing up in a Jewish wedding over Labor Day, Sunday so we don't have to start so late. Something like this, coming from a Jewish guy, is about as offensive as a WWJD bracelet. Besides, is Jerry Jones Jewish (I really don't know) or Romo? If you can be offended by the avatar you better know what 18 really means.
  17. I don't see MLS going for it. They have really been big on only expanding to areas that have or promise to have within a couple of years a Soccer only stadium. Yes, technically this is a soccer only stadium, when they roll it out. I still don't see it happening. Plus, this is Milwaukee. Nothing is allowed to change or improve, ever. The status quo must be maintained.
  18. Steve Philips is one of the reasons I don't watch Baseball Tonight. I would hate for him to keep me away from the Crew. I haven't heard anything about making up games. I think FSN-WI is broadcasting just about everything other than non-Cub weekday games this year.
  19. I'm nitpicking, but it was Powell who mentioned that. And Suppan's stats last year were at the break. He's had a couple of starts post break this year to repulse us. There is not plenty of baseball left. Win. Win now.
  20. Dang you and your fancy doctoral thingys. "I like my beer cold, my TV loud, and my homosexuals FLAMING!" -Homer, not the Illiad guy That said, I am panicking more that a dude buried up to his head, covered in honey, and next to a den of fire ants. I've had too many lows. Give me my highs!
  21. Bucky, I've had a fair amount of experience in both areas (building and existing) but not in the Carolinas, so take this for what it is worth. The #1 thing is can you handle the construction stuff. You would have to put up with the double wide for a year or two. Then, you have to deal with 3-6 months of construction. Probably on the lower end because most homes in the south are slab, no basement. If you are acting as your own general, you are going to sink a lot of time into things. If you hire a general, or buy a spec home, you will spend a little less time overseeing the project, but construction is still more cumbersome than buying pre-existing. You may not want to spend that 14 hours at work and then have to deal with checking off a punch list before you lose your right to object to a draw. Buying you don't get exactly what you want, but your time and costs are a little less. If you are getting a lot that big, either way, get a survey. Its worth the money. Trust me, I do title insurance. And hey, I have a dear friend who is a Real Estate agent in the Triangle area. If you are there I would be happy to recommend her.
  22. Third. Us, the Dodgers and now the Sox. And I'd trade places with him in heartbeat. Good on ya Brady.
  23. I have a new god! All hail dlk9s! So many comments, so few BF strikes I want to earn.
  24. Venting 'cause this is the vent thread. If you win that "Day in the Big League" promo from Time Warner, you should get Suppan's salary for a week. He ain't earning it. 34mil for 4-6 runs and 5 innings?
