  1. Brewers score two runs in the 5th inning, and it seems like a disappointment. Tons better than the zeroes seen during the mid-July tailspin.
  2. According to Gameday, he's been thrown seven balls. Like Thames, probably pressing and trying to do too much. Kintzler had a power sinker going down and in to Aguilar all at bat. Looks like a strike to begin, but ends up out of the zone. Nationals broadcasters were talking about it: not much a batter can even do with that pitch even if he makes contact.
  3. Good job by Guerra stranding the leadoff double. Chance to take the lead and turn the game over to the bullpen.
  4. Third time through the order, batters are hitting .400 against Hellickson this season. Time to really turn up the offense.
  5. Deflating not to score, but Shaw’s bouncer to first wasn’t a weak out. Nearly a snowcone by Zimmerman to snare it, saving a double. Was harder hit than the one by Yelich last night.
  6. The bolded part was included in my thought back a few pages when floating the Merrifield option. Merrifield's offensive skills, defensive versatility, and contract control are why he should be at least a target to consider. Merrifield would be the starting 2B for the rest of 2018. And if Hiura isn't quite ready for the bigs at any time in 2019, Merrifield gives you a starting 2B for that period. Looking also at the next several seasons, only Cain and Yelich are locked-in outfield starters. Who's the third outfielder in 2019/2020/2021? There's Braun, when he's not on the DL or taking the needed days off. You've got the AAA options in Santana--who's down there trying to get his swing back--or Phillips--if you think he's ready for prime time. Maybe Ray gets things going enough for 2020/2021, assuming he's not traded. There are holes with all of these. Merrifield would help fill that gap.
  7. So you want to suspend him because he forgot to delete some tweets? Yes, given the vile content of those tweets and the distraction they caused on a night we should be celebrating baseball. Daring to wade into this mess, I do have some concern about timing of this entire matter. The problem with the tweets--beyond their content, which ranges from stupid to ugly at best--is that they were done well before Hader became an employee of the Milwaukee Brewers or MLB. In fact, he had become an employee with those tweets extant. If the Brewers or MLB want to suspend a player for performing acts that are distracting from baseball while being an employee, more power to them. Codes of conduct exist for many, if not most, employees. But to do so for something done prior to becoming an employee? That doesn't quite seem correct. (Again, that is not excusing the content.) Perhaps a regulating of Twitter presence after being drafted and upon signing a contract should become part of the MLB employment process.
  8. I'd see what Kansas City wants for Whit Merrifield. In fact, I'd even be inclined to go that route instead of Machado. Burning through some prospects to clear out slots on next year's 40-man roster makes sense for a rental player. Doing so to pick up a player with multiple years of control is even better. Merrifield could become the starting 2B for the rest of 2018. He'd also be a fine addition to the top of the lineup or a run producer lower in the order. Adding his average and ability to get extra base hits would be fine to put at #5 or #6 in the lineup. I'm even more interested in the ability of having Merrifield on the roster for multiple seasons. He could supply the bridge to Hiura at 2B. Or he could essentially become the "replacement" for Braun in LF. With Santana looking lost as a batter this year and an unsure bet that Phillips will develop into a starter, Merrifield could end up patrolling the OF for a few years. I don't see any of the AAA/AA prospects knocking down the door to be called up in 2019, maybe even 2020. Would the cost be high? Likely. But it's better to use some of the prospects we have as currency instead of losing them to the Rule 5 draft.
  9. Yelich hitting up the middle or to the opposite field is just plain fun to watch. Great hitting approach so far this series.
  10. Good debut inning for Burnes. Can definitely see some of the stuff that he has in the pitching arsenal.
  11. Poor pitching performance from Hader and Knebel. Still was a winnable game; probably should’ve been won. Been more of those turned into Ws this year. But never fun to watch the ones that end up Ls.
  12. Speed kills. Fielding mistake turned a single into 2nd and 3rd with no out.
  13. Williams with a nice shutdown appearance tonight. Got the run producers coming up; a three-spot would be excellent.
  14. Take three out of four against Atlanta. Good way to face off against an NL division leader. I’d gladly take a similar result in an October NLDS.
  15. Pitching around traffic, stranding a bunch of Braves baserunners, while getting some decent run support might not be the usual Guerra start in 2018, but it is a very good performance today.
  16. Surprised that Yelich didn't get the ball that Saladino missed. Would've likely been better to have a left fielder come in for that catch and have momentum taking him more towards the plate with a man on third base.
