  1. I sleep on my side as much as I can, but end up on my back. I'm not upset that I have to get a CPAP...I am thankful. Rather, I'm upset that it's going to take 6 months to get one. In the mean time, I will continue to drive sleepy and hope for the best.
  2. Back in November, I went to the doctor because of sleep problems. I never felt refreshed and was getting to the point where I could fall asleep literally anywhere at any time, including behind the wheel of my car on the way to work in the morning. My doctor put in a referral for a sleep study. The first available date for an at home study was January 20...8 weeks from the date I get the referral. January 20 comes and goes, I do the test, and it comes back that I have severe sleep apnea (which I figured), and they need to do another sleep test, this time in the clinic because they are giving me a CPAP. The next available appointment? May 8. So from the time I went in to get the referral to the time I actually get treatment will be 6 months. Seems a bit excessive.
  3. Trading Fernando Vina to the Cardinals for a relief pitcher and two PTBNL. I think they traded him because of the emergence of Belliard, but with hindsight, that was a terrible move. Also, trading Mark Loretta for Wayne Franklin and Keith Ginter.
  4. I spoke with the guy who bought it today. He's very in tune with what the market in our neighborhood looks like, so I'm very optimistic. He said his wife actually asked about buying it for themselves (his company technically "owns" the house, so he'd have to buy it from the company and pay investors with the profit). There are a lot of things he said he's going to do which will make the property look much better, so this should be a plus for us. His other work is posted online, and it all looks pretty nice. Puts me at ease a bit. ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=32290
  5. I mean, what are the alternatives to flipping it? Putting it on the market for far less than our house (which has an identical layout, just reversed) in hopes that the new buyers put money into it? There are a lot of ifs in that alternative...what if they don't fix it up? What if they have no intention of doing any repairs? What if the buyers are bad neighbors (which could happen anyways). Personally, I was fearing them putting it on the market for far less than market value and attracting buyers whom we wouldn't want as neighbors, which would also hurt the value of our home. We are likely to sell in the next 5-7 years, and I see this as being a good thing because it could raise the value of our house.
  6. Long story short, the house next door to mine has been vacant since April. In the 5 years we lived here, we never saw her neighbor. Her house was in a state of disrepair...shingles flying off of the roof when it was windy, wood siding that had birds living in it, gutters with trees growing from them...etc. Last week, we noticed some activity, and as it turns out, a flipper bought the house and is remodeling it and will presumably put it on the market. My other neighbor says this is bad. I can't think of any scenario in which this is a bad thing. Am I being naive?
  7. My daughters get to wake up in the morning at home, with no one else in the house, for Christmas morning. My 3 year old is so excited. We do get to travel tomorrow, but I'm fine with it considering that I get to experience this as a parent for the first time.
  8. While the money in ND sounds great, they have an issue with housing shortages. A high demand for workers coupled with high wages means any housing that is available is really expensive. There are a lot of stories about workers living in campers because there aren't enough houses to hold all of the workers. Something else to consider... My dad's company sells valves and regulators to large industry, and they recently opened an office somewhere in ND. He has been told by customers that it makes sense to drill when oil is above $65/barrel. Apparently, yesterday, oil closed at $68/barrel. If low oil prices continue for any length of time, they may slow production up there, reducing the demand for jobs.
  9. My wife and I just went through the process of buying a couple major appliances. We went to Home Depot, Sears, and a local place. The local place had the same price as Home Depot (which was the lowest), but they threw in a few extras that Home Depot didn't...plus, we get our appliances a week earlier and we get their service should anything go wrong. We looked at a lot of other appliances while we were there and will most definitely go back next time we need to buy a big ticket item.
  10. I don't need the WIAA football championships to be played on 3 radio stations, thank you very much.
  11. I have never really had laryngitis until this week. Sure, I have sort of lost my voice, but it normally was to the point where I sounded like a 7th grade boy at worst. This week, no voice. Nothing. Sometimes I can get a squeak out of me, but it's so bad my wife can't hear me on the phone. My profession? A teacher. Yep. It's been fun.
  12. And 1070 in Madison is now on 100.7 FM. I listen to Heller as well. I listened to Homer for a while, but got very sick of all the callers. Heller doesn't really do many callers, and when he does, he keeps them to a minimum. I like Lucas/Dawson in the morning. It was better with Lepay, but I get why he got out of the radio show.
  13. Both Wild Card game winners advance to the World Series. Interesting.
  14. I am 33 years old and I have arthritis in my big toe. There are 2 possible treatments...custom orthotics and/or surgery. It would cost me more out of pocket to get the orthotics than it would to have surgery.
  15. Videos that automatically play on websites.
  16. 1) Standardize the DH. I'd lean towards both leagues having it (though I personally would prefer no DH). 2) Balance the schedule. Every team plays each other division team 18 times, other league opponents 6 times (home-home series) and one interleague division for a home-home series. I think the math balances out to still be 162 games. I know this means 30 interleague games, but I hate how our schedule is different than the other teams in our division. 3)...could be a 2b...each team will have 4 scheduled doubleheaders, 2 at home, 2 away. The games would always be scheduled vs. division opponents to help ease rescheduling in case of rain. This would shorten the season by about a week, which should happen anyways. 4) Salary dumps would not be allowed. I'm not talking about one or two players, but complete overhauls like what happened with Florida and Houston. Of course, retirements will be taken into consideration, but fire sales are not good for the game. 5) All new stadiums, except in maybe LA or San Diego, will have a retractable roof. The fact Minnesota does not have one is ridiculous.
  17. A few things I forgot to mention in my original reply... Cost is probably the biggest factor in deciding to go to a game or not. Up until this year, we didn't have to pay for our daughter, but she's now 3 so we do. Even before we had to pay for a ticket for her, because we could really only go on weekends, we would end up paying more either due to demand-based pricing or because it was a marquee game. That means a minimum of $60 for tickets, $15 for parking, plus gas (and we'd tailgate or take food in...I rarely buy something at the stadium). So it costs at least $75 to go to a game, but that cost has increased due to our family. Add in the fact that a 3 year old needs to move around a lot and the play area is downright frightening for her means someone has to be entertaining her for most of the game. It's just not worth it. Now, if I can go without my children, it's a different story. I still like to get to at least 2-3 games a year, but I find it much more enjoyable without taking the kids...it's not very kid friendly, at least not at their ages.
  18. Once I had kids, the number of games I attend went way down. It's just too hard to go during the week, which means I only get to weekend games. I really don't like going to games that are sellouts (unless it's the playoffs). It seems those games have too many people who are there because it's the cool place to be, which means they don't pay attention to the game and don't know the etiquette of attending games (getting up mid-inning, or even worse, mid at bat, etc...). This has been a problem since the team has gotten better. It's a good problem to have, though. I'd obviously much rather have 3 million go through the gates and be annoying than have games were the announced attendance was 12,000, but there were no more than 8,000 at the game.
  19. The Cardinals don't add that one piece to the puzzle that makes them difficult to beat (like the Furcal trade in 2011).
  20. Gas-powered leaf blowers, especially at 7:00 AM.
  21. There are a lot of red eyes today, that's for sure. I'm in Middleton and I think we were spared from anything too bad. I'll drive around town this morning to check it out. Verona looks to have been hit by a tornado, damaging a school, part of Epic, and a bunch of houses. The southwest side of Madison along with the isthmus also saw quite a bit of damage.
  22. No, most start at 7:00 local time, even in the eastern time zone. That's why you see night games vs. Pittsburgh, Cincy, etc... start at 6:00 here.
  23. This is exactly what I have been thinking, but it's still mind boggling all at the same time. It sort of screwed with my psyche...it made me think that I wasn't good enough to be considered for the position. Oh well...life goes on.
  24. I applied to a new teaching job in the town I live in. I fit the description perfectly...I taught the subjects they needed, teach in a diverse school, advise the club the teacher leaving advises.... Didn't get a call for an interview. My resume is awesome. How did I not get an interview?
  25. Along with bouncy houses I'm going to include playgrounds. My daughter is nearly 3 and is getting the ability to play on bigger structures, and I'm really surprised how many kids in the 11-12 year old range or older play on them as well. They completely ignore everyone else who is playing on the structure, and eventually some little kid like my daughter is going to get hurt. Yes, there are those who will say my kid is too little to play on the structures and I am at fault, but I disagree.
