  1. I know you said you don't want to tie up a lot of time at a museum, but I know the Field Museum (and perhaps the others) used to have free admission days in the summer. The last time I went we did the Field on one of those days. The nice part about it is you can spend as little time as you want to there, and you won't feel like it was a waste. You could check that out to see if they still do it.
  2. Kung Pao: Enter the Fist. I'm not sure if that's a movie most have not seen, but it's not one discussed very often.
  3. This may have been mentioned before, so apologies if I'm repeating. Yes, there is a lot to the story he left out. However, he included enough info that if there is something untruthful in his statement, a lot of people can come out and call him out on it. If he used PEDs longer than he claims, someone (other than the guy filing the lawsuit) will point that out. He has lied a lot in this whole saga, and I understand why people are skeptical, but just wait it out for a few days/weeks to see if even more details emerge that he missed out on before passing judgement.
  4. All of the portable concession stands that accept them (not all do) won't give change. So if you buy something for $7.50, you lose $2.50 of the voucher. What do people do then? Buy something else, of course! I refused to wait in line last night. I got up twice, and missed at least a half inning each time, mostly because the concourses were packed with people waiting in line.
  5. I honestly don't care if she gives my daughter a gift or not. As I told my wife (and as you pointed out), my daughter has no idea that her aunt didn't send something. But, if she does continue to give for birthdays in the future, there will come a time when she will know she is missing something. I have admitted to my wife that it shouldn't bother me and I shouldn't let it bother me, but I can't let go for some reason. I think you nailed it on the head, Jim, when you said it's about how she would react if it was me who was 3 months late. Anyways, I have a feeling she's expecting to see us in 2 weeks for her son's birthday, but we will be on vacation, so won't make it. Oh well.
  6. With the ideas I gave her, I highly doubt it. Her last correspondence with me was, "Since I don't know when we are getting to Madison I'm going to finally put her birthday present in the mail. I haven't forgotten, just would have liked to give it to her in person, that's all." That was 2 months ago. My mom said that she is waiting until we see them to give her the present, but there has been no effort from her to arrange a time to meet. I know I could reach out to her, but I don't know if I should be the one to have to if it means so much to my sister to give it to her in person. I may just text her asking if she ever mailed it like she said she would.
  7. It's been a while, but another family issue is bugging me. My daughter's 2nd birthday was in May. We really don't do birthday parties yet, but we do invite family over. This year, we split up the family time between my family and my wife's. We visited my parents near Milwaukee, and invited my sister who lives in Eau Claire. She didn't come because it was too far. No biggie, she'll mail the present that she bought like she did last year, right? Nope. One week passes. No word from her and nothing in the mail. Two weeks, three weeks, nothing. She finally texts me, saying she knows she didn't mail it, but was hoping to give it to her in person. That was the first week of June. I have yet to hear from her since. In that time, she was tagged in a Facebook post by a friend of hers with a thank you message for the birthday present her friend received in the mail from her. So you can mail your friend's, but you can't for your niece? I know it is just a birthday present, but if I pulled this with her son, I wouldn't hear the end of it.
  8. For movies, probably the Big Lebowski, and not every quote has the colorful language that the movie is known for. For example... "You got it, Dude." "Donny, you're out of your element!" "Your phone's ringing, Dude." (happens to be my ringtone) "Calmer than you are." I would say I quote the Simpsons more than anything, however.
  9. I'm somewhat interested in replacing some of my long irons with hybrids, but I don't have a ton of money to put into them. I'd replace my 3-iron and probably 4-iron with a hybrid. Do any of you use hybrids? If so, how do you like them? Any tips on quality, budget hybrid clubs out there? I would of course need to hit them at a store to see how I like them. On a side note, I shot my lowest 9 in over 10 years the other day. I was even through 5, and should have been even through 6, but I missed my par by less than an inch. I also missed chipping in for an eagle on a par 5 by about an inch (I was pin high just off the green on my 2nd shot). I think carrying around my kid a lot has given me a bit more strength because I can hit the ball much farther this year than in years past. It feels good to be back where I was many years ago.
  10. My wife and I are shopping for new car insurance. We just received our bill, and decided to look for a less expensive company. I have quotes from a lot of different companies, and some of them seem too good to be true. For instance, Geico is nearly $700 cheaper per year than what we currently pay. It's tempting, but I don't know anyone who has had to deal with a claim with them (same with some of the other cheaper companies like Progressive). In the past, I have had American Family and currently have Liberty Mutual, and I think we only had one claim with each company, and they were handled very well. What I don't know about these other companies is what scares me. If I go with a less expensive company, will they be a pain to deal with if we have to file a claim or get into an accident? What is everyone's experience?
  11. Through last night's game, he had a 3TO% of 59.4% this year. Not really a milestone, but interesting in my book.
  12. I just upgraded my second TV to a nice new LED TV. The old TV was hooked up to a Genie mini client via RCA. I had to reconfigure the settings on that, which was a pain, and I switched to HDMI. Now, whenever I change the channel, the connection between the mini client and the TV gets lost, and only comes back when I power off then power on the client. I'm trying to troubleshoot without having someone come out, but it's not easy.
  13. I ended up with a 47" Vizio LED smart TV. Costco had it for $470, but the caveat is that it was the display. I took a risk on getting a TV of that caliber for that cheap. Luckily, Costco's return policy and warranty still apply to the display, and I decided to get the extended warranty for a total of 5 years. Even with the warranty, I only spent $500 on a very nice TV.
  14. About 10 years ago, my grandfather moved out of his house. My dad and his siblings went in and cleaned out 50 years worth of stuff. Some of the stuff they found has made its way to me. Amongst the treasures...two cast iron skillets. I cleaned them up, reseasoned them, and have been using them for a couple years now. The other day, out of curiosity, I looked up the brand online to see how old they were. The particular skillets I have were manufactured somewhere between 1935-1958. That means I'm using skillets that are at least 55 years old, and could be nearly 75 years old.
  15. Wow. I remember we had a gas leak at the regulator outside the house. We called the gas company, and a guy was there in less than 20 minutes with no fee. I would think that the fee would discourage some from calling (though a gas leak is one of those things that is serious enough that all should call, but I can see situations where they wouldn't to avoid paying it).
  16. I'll add to the gifs, continuing the Ferris Bueller theme... http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view7/4599429/ferris-bueller-cameron-jumping-o.gif GIFSoup
  17. It's going in my basement, so it will be dark. Some have said it's not worth the extra money, others have said that plasma TVs die quickly (my current 42" is 3 years old and is fine). I'm just trying to see if there is a general consensus, because there are a lot of opinions out there.
  18. Forget Sam's, go to Costco. I do agree that the cart check at the end is a bit ridiculous. We normally buy 5-6 things per trip, and I hate waiting for people who have 2-3 carts full of stuff. I will admit, we do save money on a quite a bit of items, mainly paper products and cleaning supplies. For us, we easily make the $55/year membership fee back in savings. Plus, I have Costco's American Express card, and I tend to get a lot back from that every year as well.
  19. I'm reviving a very old topic. I'm TV shopping, and I have narrowed my search down. Two TVs, both 50", same brand, same features. One is LED, one is plasma. The LED is $300 more. Is it worth the extra $300 for an LED TV?
  20. It is a bar, but in 5 years, we have missed maybe 2 weeks. Each week, we get 5-6 guys, and always have 4-5 pitchers plus everyone gets food. They easily make their money back and profit off of us.
  21. Our softball sponsor for the past 5 years decided that they did not want to pay as much in sponsor fees this year. They told me that they may not sponsor us at all, largely because they were sponsoring other teams (they do every year), and we played at diamonds that were too far away. They reluctantly agreed to sponsor us, but only after limiting how much they were going to pay...$35 below the full fee. They claim this is what every other team they are sponsoring needs, which I don't understand at all. I'll be looking for a new sponsor next year.
  22. This makes me sad. I was seriously contemplating buying a new computer specifically to play this game. Now I'm not so sure I will.
  23. Just made my own fish fry. Used fresh cod and a beer batter using Leinie's Canoe Paddler beer and some Penzy's Foward seasoning. Once I figured out how to fry it properly, it turned out better than any fish fry cod I have ever had at a restaurant. Best part was it cost me less to feed my wife and I plus leftovers than one fish fry would cost at our favorite place.
  24. So what's up with this storm about to hit Tuesday? The NWS has 4-5 inches for Madison, news has far less. Any chance this thing can slide more north than it is forecasted to give us a big snowfall?
  25. The NWS has us getting 6.7, local news has us at 3.7. The NWS was pretty accurate last time. Besides, I can't remember the last time we had a winter storm warning when we were forecasted to get 3 inches of snow.
