  1. I think batting Prince and Branyan back to back is even more idiotic. I really don't mind if a RHP is starting. At least Prince will see good pitches then. If Hall or Cameron bat fifth, Prince sees nothing.
  2. Has anybody seen who the Mets have catching? I believe Robinson Cancel and Raul Casanova have worn a Mets uniform this year. They make it sound like they have too much talent at the catcher's spot. Typical NY media garbage. The reason the Mets stink isn't because of Randolph. It's because they have 5 really good players ( Santana, Wagner, Reyes, Wright, and Beltran) and everybody else pretty much stinks. Church has been decent, but he isn't great either. They overrate their own like nobody else outside of Chicago.
  3. The problems I had with tonight's game are plenty: 1. We got to the game early. My Italian was luke warm at best. Not a good start. 2. I look at the lineup and see Counsell batting second. Then I look down farther and don't see Iribarren. I then texted one of my bartenders complaining that they bring the guy up and don't let him play at all. 3. Also, having Branyan, Cameron, and Hall back to back to back is plain idiocy. Impossible to manufacture a run when everything is a popout or strikeout. 4. Then Prince tries to tag on a fly to left center field. Why? He won't score on a wild pitch unless it rolls 50 feet away from the catcher. 5. Then I get a guy behind me whining about how Bush needed to come out before it was 4-0. Then he went on to state that if we slipped Ned some decaf and a jelly donut, he may need a nap and Simmons could manage. That was pretty funny. The only good thing was the weather. It was beautiful out.
  4. Pretty sure Sheets and Braun make it. I would say they are locks. But my guess is that Hart is on the outside looking in. The numbers say he belongs compared to the other NL outfielders, but we may have to vote him in after the selections have been made. Looks like Fukudome is gonna be voted in. The only stats he beats Hart in are OBP and votes. Must be nice to have blind fans that will vote for only their players. Here are the outfielders that I think are having the best seasons (in no order): McClouth, Nady, C Lee, Braun, Hart, Soriano, Ludwick, Rowand , Holliday, Church, and Winn. Fukudome and Griffey will be voted in. Soriano is out. Who goes??? Edit: Removed excessive punctuation from title. - Toby
  5. Weeks should never lead off again. Hart is the man.
  6. With that lineup, I see nothing wrong with Counsell second. but would rather see Iribarren there. If Hart leads off with a single and Counsell doesn't bunt, this lineup makes no sense at all. Unless, Hart is on the run right away.
  7. He's been hurt all year, just starting to throw of the mound. Do you think he could be the fresh arm we need in August and September? Should we take a flier on him?
  8. JJ did all his damage last year in the 2-hole. He really takes advantage of seeing decent pitches. Hart should've been leading off all season. Good OBP in front of big hitters. Remember, the other way to make pitchers throw to our good hitters is to have guys on base. So, Prince doesn't need to have alot of protection if we have a couple on base. Great job Corey!
  9. Maybe Hall needs a minor league stint to wake him up, like Weeks' last year. I am beginning to think Skaalen needs to be the first one to go. Seems that guys go into slumps just continue to do the same things wrong. We all know Hall is probably the best on the team at taking the ball to right field. Pretty sure that you could count his number of right field hits on one hand. Terrible.
  10. Almost 6 million was bet on Big Brown at Belmont track. Across the country, it was probably about 10 times that. Vegas alone probably had 40 mil on Big Brown bets. It was too bad that he showed the way he did. I am glad that owner lost though.
  11. I guess my problem with Friday's game is that Ned made countless defensive replacements last year, and basically none this year. Last year, Braun, Weeks, Hart, and Mench were consistently replaced with better fielders late in games. This year, he doesn't do anything. My ideal move would've been to replace Braun with Cameron in center and Kapler in left. Seems elementary. Letting Kendall hit in the ninth made no sense either. His average is dying about as fast as the stock market.
  12. Wouldn't Rickie be the ideal guy to lead off if this guy walks a ton of guys? I just don't get Ned. These guys are 25 years old and younger. They were just off Monday. Who needs a day off?
  13. Didn't page through the whole thread, but I'll give my .02 anyway. This is a huge blow for Janesville. Being a business owner in Janesville, I deal with UAW people all the time. But, I also think this may be scare tactics to get eligible people that make $100,000/year to retire. They tell them they are closing in a year and a half? Why? So they can get those people who don't want to transfer to retire. Then they will announce that they are saving the Janesville plant and will be making a couple of new vehicles right here. General Motors could then hire workers at the new entry level rate, $14-$15/hr, which translates to roughly 40 grand a year. It's funny, GM closes 4 plants, then they announce the new hybrid car will be made next year. During the announcement, they say there will be 18 new models of GM products, replacing some of the old ones but making a wider selection to choose from. BTW, the "Volt" car sounds like it could save the company. It's a plug in car. If charged up, you can go 40 miles on battery power, then the vehicle automatically changes to gasoline when the battery is done. So, if you have a local job, you only have to buy gas when you go out of town. Sounds like a winner to me. People need to realize that GM owns the Janesville Plant. To sell the land and plant, they have to make sure that they decontaminate the ground under the plant. You cannot sell contaminated property. That will cost them millions and millions.
  14. Remember, there is no other position for Billy other than 3B here. We cannot afford a utility player that makes 8.6mil in 2010. If we could land a RH platoon 3B outside of a Hall trade, I'd be for moving Billy. Say we traded Gwynn for Garciaparra and Hall for a Giants reliever. Could there be a fit then?
  15. Not too sure about Hall's value. But Hall, Gwynn, and a decent prospect (not Gamel or LaPorta) could net us one of a few decent pitchers soon to hit the market. Blanton Street Maddux Wolf Nathan Penny Lowe Odalis Perez- may not need Hall to acquire him. Millwood Padilla Arroyo I would rather see Lowe or Penny, but Maddux or Wolf would make me happy too.
  16. Hurricane or Hall with a Dillon/Branyan platoon. Just another guess.
  17. Sorry bout the Williams inclusion. Should know he's a lefty hitter. I have an autographed picture of him in the bar. I actually had forgotten DiMaggio to start with. So I'll say that I had Williams there in stead of Joe D. You could put Foxx into the conversation instead of Williams.
  18. The Pirates seem to fade big time in the second half. The Cubs have already played them 12 times. Only 6 left with Pitt. Good sign. The schedule is outta whack this season. Usually, we follow the Cubs or they follow us. Why the big change?
  19. What kills me is that Ramirez is a first ballot HOF according to ESPN and Frank Thomas is debatable whether he's Hall worthy or not. Look where Thomas is in this thread, without the Monster to bang balls off of late in his career. I think he should get more votes than Manny. And, any list of the top 10 right handed hitters of all time that doesn't have Hornsby, Williams, DiMaggio, Mays, Aaron, and Frank Robinson is no list at all. And actually, a list of OPS+ should have percentages above average OPS. +150 OPS in 1950 is more impressive than it is now.
  20. To me, yesterday's comeback was equivalent to a 3 run comeback in a neutral park. The wind was howling out, Colorado has 3 healthy position players, and the Cubs are red hot. To me, I think the Cubs will be tough to catch. But, it's definitely possible. Theroit, Cedeno, Soto, Dempster, Soriano, Marmol, and Fukudome are all going to come back to earth. 32 home games and 23 road games is a big deal too. Just look at how much better the Brewers pitching is at home than on the road. The Cubs can easily lose 10 of 15 with the Brewers winning 10 of 15. No reason to sweat it yet.
  21. I think Houston Street is a good idea. But, we may be able to trade Hall if we give up a decent prospect. Jeffress and Hall for Street? A possibility. Hall is tied up for a few years at a decent price if he can turn it around. A young arm like Jeffress is the type of player Beane likes. We gave up on Eveland and he's firing for Oakland now. A few packages that could land Street: A. Jeffress and Hall B. Gwynn and Brad Nelson C. Gwynn and a reliever ( I think Dillard would be too much) D. Iribarren and Nelson I would not deal Gamel or LaPorta, but I think any other prospect could be in the discussion.
  22. If I remember correctly, Berman signed a mammoth contract with ESPN about 10 years ago, when he was semi-tolerable. The guy is absolutely overbearing. How bout a new catchphrase, Chris? The other guy that annoys me is Stuart Scott. Stump the Schwab would be 100x better without him on it. I'm pretty sure he got some sort of big deal from ESPN, because he was doing a remote from a NFL training camp and took a 80mph football (out of one of those throwing machines) in that eye. Pretty sure it's degenertive.
  23. My garden is 20x20. Red Onions Yellow Onions Cucumbers (one row regular and one burpless) Bell Peppers Jalapeno Peppers Habenero Peppers German Giant Radishes Regular Radishes Leaf Lettuce Pretty basic.
  24. If you look at the numbers, which I currently am not, Rickie and Hall's numbers are pretty much a push. But, Rickie is trying to go the other way and he also take a few pitches. Rickie is a better base runner and currently a better fielder. Hall can't be listening to anybody when it comes to his hitting. Any intelligent Brewer fan knows that Hall, when hitting well, goes the other way as well as anybody on the team. For some reason he keeps trying to pull the outside pitch. Makes zero sense to me. He has to see it too. I really think that if Branyan fails, you may see Gamel is September. We may see Gamel sooner if we fall out of the race.
  25. 1B- Prince 2B- Weeks SS- JJ 3B- Gamel/Hall platoon LF- Braun CF- Hart RF- LaPorta- Currently playing RF in minors. C- ?????
