  1. What baffles me is that the Cards didn't claim Edmonds, knowing the Reds could use outfield help. Plus, they just dealt Ludwick, so their outfield could use a reserve. A slam dunk win for the Crew. Another possibility of getting a lefty in the lineup versus a good RHP. Could actually see a Gomez/Dickerson platoon in CF or RF next year. Either one of those two next to Cain in the outfield would make the defense better than this year. Either Gomez or Dickerson could be invaluable as a pinch runner too. I'm guessing next year's starting staff will make the workload of the pen less next year, so maybe another player on the bench would be possible. Kotteras, Inglett, Gomez/ Dickerson, a Counsell type, and a Edmonds like retread isn't bad.
  2. How about a Hart/McGehee package to San Fran for Bumgarner/Torres? I would definitely be up for that. Braun/Cain/Torres is a super fast outfield. Gomez can be the backup.
  3. I think trading Gamel makes more sense right now. Obviously the Brewer front office likes McGehee better or Gamel would be playing some. A lot of prospects don't turn out. The Yankees trade prospects for proven players all the time. The only one to come back and bite them recently is Austin Jackson. A huge overpay for Granderson. If you are willing to spend 10 million on retread starters, you should have no problem getting a 7-10 million dollar player for a couple of prospects that may not pan out. Just think of what we were getting offered for Escobar! We tend to overvalue every prospect since Braun came up.
  4. Thought of that one, but, would probably be in the batters eye and wearing the home whites. You want to lead off third, in case of a wild pitch. You always want to lead off, alot of pitchers prefer to wind up and not pitch from the stretch.
  5. Pretty sure we'll have to trade for pitching. The Free Agent route hasn't been the best. Hart for Bumgarner- I would have done this as soon as it hit the table. Kershaw like talent with years of control. Do it NOW! Fielder for Niemann and prospects- This may be an offseason deal. The Rays will have money when Crawford and Pena are gone. And it opens up a spot for one of their young studs. Sign Adam Dunn and Carl Crawford. With Hall, Hoffman, Suppan, Fielder, and Hart off the books, we could easily replace the sticks we deal.
  6. I should say his bat looks lazy. Can't get around on a fastball anymore. Maybe it's age. Whatever it is, it's not good.
  7. As July wears on, Jim Edmonds looks like he is less interested in playing for the Brewers. He still gets great jumps on the ball, plays good defense, etc. But his bat is lazy, he doesn't hustle, and seems like he's content with being released so he can hook up with a team like St Louis again. I have to think that he's being shopped, just to see what we can get before the ax falls. Gomez makes mistakes, no doubt. But he plays better defense than Edmonds these days and we already score plenty of runs. Plus, with either Gomez or Cain coming off the bench, we'd at least have one right handed hitter on the bench every day.
  8. If the Brewers offer an extension to Hart, I would think it would be incentive laden. Ex: 4years 36million guaranteed. An extra 500k each for 500AB, 25HR, 100RBI, 20SB. Maybe 100K for Each all star appearance, with bonuses for MVP votes, playoff appearances, WS appearances, etc. If he had four years like this year, he could make close to 11 mil per season. If he doesn't, he gets 9 mil.
  9. Won't work. The Padres know that Hart is gonna get a huge bump in pay and they already are shopping Gonzalez for that reason.
  10. Seattle is averaging 3.5 runs per game with the DH. We've all seen Suppan have flashes of effectiveness. 224 runs in 64 games is awful
  11. He is pitching to Seattle. And they have no DH. That lineup is horrible.
  12. But getting Cain and throwing a 6yr/90million extension at him will keep him around. He's injury free, proven, and a horse. Remember, after this year we have Suppan, Hall, and Hoffman coming off the books. That's 33 million if my addition and memory are correct. Spending half of that on a starter is a given. Actually, we could spend almost all of it on starting pitching and it wouldn't bother me.
  13. I still think Prince to SFO for Huff and Cain would be great. Even if we needed to add a little, I'd be for it. We'd lose some offense, but get a LH first baseman for the rest of this year.
  14. Pretty soon, Melvin will have to take the blame for something. I mean, Looper is still unemployed, and is clearly better than a couple of our starters this year. And we're still paying Hall 9 million. Supp has about 10 million left. Hoffman has about 6 million left. 25 million of completely useless contracts. he could save a little face and trade Prince for Matt Cain!!
  15. I think you may be able to get a salary cap passed, if you enforce a salary minimum too. The large market teams aren't what's standing in the way of a cap. It's the players. If you can convince them that teams like KC and Florida will spend 70 million, They shouldn't have any problem letting a cap of 125million be introduced. The profits and attendance rise with competitive teams in the small markets, which would make everybody happier.
  16. I'm in a rotisserie 5x5, nl only 12 team league. 10 keepers possible out of 23 players. Auction draft. Two key rules set this league apart. 1) It's an all play league. No lineups. All stats count. 2) The only way to cut a player is if they get sent to minors or DL. You drafted Kendall, you were stuck with him all year. Best league I'Ve ever seen.
  17. Where has McGlocklin been? I never heard.
  18. With a LH dominated bench, isn't there a better chance that Prince doesn't see every teams best lefty? Plus, the Cards and Cubs have one decent lefty starter combined. Lilly.
  19. Probably shortly after the Nats declined offering him a deal Not too worried what the Nats think. Their front office has been less than brilliant.
  20. Like it alot. I think watching Sheets was a formality, that we had this agreement with DD a while back but it wouldn't look right to announce this before Sheets threw. But only 5.25 guaranteed to Davis is great. Nice job DM.
  21. My guess is that he signs a one year deal at about 8 million, with a 4 million dollar bonus for getting to 180 innings. Heck, maybe a second year vests at 180 innings.
  22. There is no reason to think we have too much pitching. We may have too many pitchers, but that's a different story. If we have to deal a reliever before Spring Training, fine. If we have to cut the weakest link, great! Melvin is just guaranteeing that there will be no reliving the Mike Burns experiment.
  23. I say Huff. He could even platoon with Corey in RF. Not sure of the last time he played the outfield, but I'm afraid that Corey just isn't an everyday player.
  24. Just googled Misty May and holy cow. That guy needs to be the back up!! Heck, we started a second pitcher in our lineup for 2 years!! He can back up!
  25. If Prince and Gomez could net us Ellsbury, Bucholz, and Bard, I think you do it now. If they need us to even payroll out, take Drew and platoon him with Hart. If we can move Prince and not have to eat salary in return, we could easily pick up a lefty first baseman (Damon?).
