  1. Ok, how about 'a favorite for?' @Ken_Rosenthal suggested dodgers & brewers may be in lead.
  2. I don't recall being listed as 'one of the favorites' or the 'most serious' last year, but I could be mistaken.
  3. They seem insistent on playing Perez in the OF, so he's the likely target based on his production thus far.
  4. You do have to wonder if with Pina's mystery injury, there'd be motivation for movement on Realmuto. Maybe rather than Machado he's the current focus.
  5. If they're going to keep Broxton up, he really should be playing vs. lefties if they're not going to play Thames and Perez is the alternative....
  6. Worth noting elsewhere that Woodruff was scratched despite not being involved in the multitude of roster moves this morning. Could be a minor injury, of course, but I'd bet that he's a lock to be involved in a deal if one happens soon.
  7. Is it, though? If Braun isn't right (whether due to injury or just decline), is he really one of our best options right now? Constantly missing a day here and there leads to Perez playing the OF, rather than a legit outfielder. As someone else said, rest him through the break and then see where things are at.
  8. I'm expecting a fairly heavy roster move day this morning. I'd agree that Nottingham and Cain would be exciting alone, and more could join them.
  9. It feels like there's a game every so often that the team is willing to punt on, even though it ends up being a winnable game. It's as though they thought that the unexpected spot start was unlikely to go well, so they had determined their strategy from the get-go and were unwilling to change it when it ended up being close after 7. I'm sure that's not how it actually is, but this is the second time I've overtly thought that during the game this year. A game like this might be incredibly frustrating to look back on if we miss out on the division by a game or two, because it just doesn't feel like the team was put in the best position to win.
  10. I suppose it'd come down to whether the Royals are willing to bet on regular AB's/change of scenery/relative youth leading to a rebound for Santana, which isn't all that crazy. We'd certainly be selling low on Santana, but we'd also be dealing from a surplus position to fill a major hole. I don't think it's impossible to think that they would be interested.
  11. Yeah, we really appreciate the enthusiasm, but it's easier to read the board if the 'text message short-hand' is kept to a minimum. Thanks!
  12. Wrong thread, I know, but the implosion of that 2014 team was pretty impressive.
  13. Isn't it also at least worth noting that the major source of the rumors regarding the Brewers' interest was a guy on a message board? For all we know, the Brewers DIDN'T have actual interest in or make offers to Cobb/Lynn/whomever. The only one that had some actual reporters that said the Brewers were in on seemed to be Darvish.
  14. If we give up Burnes for Happ..... What a silly prediction.
  15. Happ's ability to pitch deep into games could help the bullpen a lot. He's gone to the sixth or beyond in 10 of his starts, which is something the current staff struggles to do. It's going to destroy out bullpen, as we saw on this last stretch of games in Cincy. The rotation needs a couple of guys that can give the bullpen a few innings off, or this team is going to implode.
  16. We're (and Feinsand) are also assuming it's Happ. It could be Stroman, as since someone else noted, it'd be a great time to buy-in on him.
  17. The issue is (and was, in the 2008-2014 run) our continued inability to develop quality pitching of our own. Yes, Peralta and/or Burnes could break that mold. But if they don't, the Brewers will have to continue to acquire quality arms via trade or free agency. Free agency leads to overpaying for mediocrity, and trading for quality means you have to give up prospects to get it. Until the team can put multiple self-developed arms into the majors and have THEM have sustained success, the team will always have to weigh the odds of shortening a window by trading prospects to fill holes vs. the possibility that you miss out on playoff success because you have those holes that you can't fill internally. It's been a problem for 20 years, and shows few signs of getting better.
  18. Adam, he called it inconsistently even in the SAME AB. I looked on Gameday as you did, and pitch 2 is a called strike in the SAME SPOT. I don't think hoping for consistency over the course of 4 pitches is asking for the moon.
  19. Gameday may show it as a ball, but it was a strike at other points in the game. Gamecast shows pitch 6 (ball 3) as a strike, and in a virtually identical position as pitch 2, which was a called strike. If an umpire is calling a strikezone inconsistently, there's plenty of reason to pick that battle.
  20. The new ownership group is basically running the Bucks like the old ownership group, in all of its frustrating ways at least. Fill the roster with middling talent at a high cost, draft poorly (if for no other reason than continually being in the non-lottery group), all to make it to the playoffs as the 6-8 seed hoping to make it to a second series. Yech.
  21. I agree with JohnBriggs.... two very bad breaks made that outing worse than it could have been. That said, his stay will be short as the shuffle will continue.
  22. You’re basing your conclusions on W/L records, WHIP and straight ERA alone? I can see why you don’t think he’s an upgrade, then. Everything else shows why he’s a huuuuuge upgrade over 4/5ths of our rotation, possibly all 5 if you don’t buy Guerra’s resurgence.
  23. Agreed. You'd have a chance to get a young, controllable starter for a return that might be more easy to stomach. I'd think there's a stronger chance of the Brewers making this type of deal than a huge C.C.-esque deal.
  24. ...But he is. He's been better this year than every starter other than Guerra thus far, and is 25 and in his third MLB season and under control until 2023. I'm not saying we should give up the farm for him, but he would absolutely be an upgrade.
